Carved out at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, Akenza Golf Club is Marrakech golf with the gloves off. This is not manicured parkland or a gentle resort loop, it's a raw desert round where the scale of the landscape is part of the challenge.

The backdrop is the headline act. On a clear day the Atlas peaks sit out beyond the course and the light in the desert can be properly dramatic, especially later in the afternoon. But it's not just a pretty walk. Akenza asks you to think your way around it, pick sensible targets and commit to your shots because the punishment for a sloppy line can arrive quickly.

Expect a course that leans into its terrain rather than smoothing it away. You'll see elevation changes, awkward stances and natural run-offs that can turn a decent strike into a tricky next shot. And if the wind gets up, you'll quickly learn which holes want restraint off the tee and which ones reward a confident swing. The fairways can run firm, especially in summer, so club selection matters more than you might expect on a desert layout.

Akenza feels characterful and a bit untamed compared with the more polished resort options around Marrakech. If you're after immaculate perfection, it may not be your favourite. If you want a proper test and a round you'll talk about back at the clubhouse, it delivers. The course doesn't give much away, but when you stripe one down the middle with the mountains in view, it's the kind of moment that stays with you.

Include Akenza on your next Marrakech golf break if you fancy something with bite and a serious sense of place.

Akenza Golf Course

Measuring a formidable 7150 yards from the championship tees, the par-72 Akenza layout is an exhilarating test designed to challenge every aspect of your game. The course architect has woven the very soul of the desert into the fabric of the game. You’ll find tees nestled in Sahara-like sands and fairways guarded by natural dry riverbeds that change with the seasons ensuring no two rounds are ever quite the same.

The defining feature is the unforgettable sequence of eight holes that demand a carry over yawning, rugged canyons. This isn't just target golf it's adventure golf where strategy is everything. Multiple routes to the green offer a constant risk-reward dilemma making a round here a thrilling mental contest as much as a physical one. Akenza is a course that commands respect a place where bogeys tell stories and where every beautifully struck shot feels like a victory against the elements.

Superb condition absolutely immaculate, not busy at all but so tricky playing for the first time. Had to wait for a buggy to be available although prepaid & pre booked which was annoying. No alcohol served , really needed a beer after our round.

Akenza was a different level, new course, superb clubhouse, premium experience - built like the desert courses in Arizona. The manicuring of tees, greens and fairways was some of the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve played 100s of golf courses around the world. A must play on any Marrakesh trip. Only two things to bear in mind (but ARE NOT reasons to avoid) 1. It’s a hard tough course some golfers could be intimated by 2. It’s alcohol free both on the course and in the clubhouse, so if that’s important to any group / organiser, need to bear in mind (but the freshly squeezed juices overlooking the Atlas Mountains make up for it after a long hot round!!)

A good course, needs to get its drinks licence for people to stay and eat after the round.

Great courses to say it’s only been open 12 months or so. The tee boxes were the best presented I think on any course I’ve played. You. A see it’s got great potential in the next few years when trees and the landscape around develop. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the minute we got there to collection time. Would definitely play again.

Best in marrakech in my opinion. Amazing course and brilliant hospitality

best course I have ever played. Conditions are ridiculously good, probably due to only being open a year. Everything about this place is just stunning, from the clubhouse to the practice area to course itself. Challenging and well laid out holes, lots of variety.
