The Bristol Golf Club

Built to USGA specifications and opened in 2000, The Bristol Golf Club is a modern championship layout that makes the most of its setting in the West Country. At 6,111 yards it's not about overpowering the course, it's about placing the ball in the right parts of the fairway and thinking your way into the greens.

You'll notice the conditioning straight away. Fairways tend to play firm when the weather allows, greens generally roll true and the bunkering is there to catch anything a little lazy off the tee or into the approaches. Miss in the wrong spot and you'll be relying on a tidy short game, but play to your angles and it's a fair test rather than a slog.

If you're planning a UK break and want a dependable venue where standards are taken seriously, this is a strong option for a society day, a mixed-ability group or anyone who enjoys modern course design done properly. It's the kind of place that works well as part of a Bristol weekend or as a reliable add-on with other West Country courses.

Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a well-kept, modern championship course in the West Country, with a strategic feel rather than a heritage-only draw.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who value good conditioning and smart design, plus societies and groups who want a reliable venue that rewards accuracy and course management.

The Bristol Golf Club

Set in the heart of 200 delightful acres of countryside, the golf course affords its visitors terrific views over the Severn Estuary, and is punctuated by a number of challenging water hazards. Despite being a new build, the layout benefits from extremely established woodland, giving it a maturity that belies its youth.

The routing is one of the highlights. It flows naturally, with good variety from hole to hole, so it never feels like you're playing the same shot over and over. It's also the sort of track that improves with repeat rounds, as you start to spot subtler breaks on the greens and learn which sides of the fairways open up the best lines into the pins.

The design makes intelligent use of the natural terrain, offering a proper test for single-figure players while remaining fair and enjoyable for mid-handicappers who play smart golf. Strategic bunkering rewards accuracy over brute force, and the layout provides enough variety in hole design to keep every round interesting without resorting to gimmicks or forced carries.

This was a late venue change due to another course on our trip being closed due to heat and we thought it was great. The staff and particularly the club pro looked after us brilliantly in the extreme heat and made sure we had water and complimentary ice lollies during our round. We all enjoyed the lovely parkland course and it was a decent challenge without being too tough for moderate golfers. Highly recommended and great value.

Another fantastic course with great staff , unbelievable views and a tough course again but not so tough that it wasn’t enjoyable for the 28 handicap player.

Course was in good condition considering the heat this year. Very cleanly cut and looked nice in the eye. Unfortunately was help up and took us over 3 hours to complete the front nine holes.
