Celtic Manor Hunter Lodges

10.0
Excellent See all 6 reviews

Perched on the hills above the Twenty Ten, the Hunter Lodges are Celtic Manor's premium "get the group together" option. You still get the polish of a five-star resort and three championship courses, but with the privacy, space and flexibility you simply don't get down a hotel corridor.

Each lodge is a 4,000 sq ft retreat with four en-suite king bedrooms, open-plan living, an indoor sauna and an outdoor hot tub. The views aren't bad either, you're looking straight across the Usk Valley and over the Twenty Ten fairways. It's ideal if you want the Ryder Cup experience by day, then your own place to eat, drink and unwind at night.

Celtic Manor is built for variety, whether you're here for a society weekend, a family break or a couple of rounds with mates. If you'd rather be in the main hub of the resort, there are also excellent hotel options at the Resort Hotel, Coldra Court and The Manor House.

For groups who want serious golf on tap, but prefer to do the evening their own way, the Hunter Lodges are the standout choice.

Who is this for?
Groups of four to eight golfers, families combining golf with downtime, or friends looking for a premium UK break with flexibility, privacy and serious golf on tap.

Who is it best for?
Golfers who want the full Celtic Manor experience, Ryder Cup courses included, but prefer the feel of a private house over a hotel corridor. Perfect for those who value space, choice and the option to self-cater or dine out as the mood takes them.

Golf Courses at Celtic Manor Hunter Lodges

Twenty Ten Course

As the first course to be purpose built for the Ryder Cup, the Twenty Ten was under some pressure when the world’s best players arrived to do battle in late 2010 but with great variety and countless risk vs. reward holes throughout the course, it certainly lived up to its billing and is now seen as one of the best and most entertaining courses in the UK. With Ryder Cup mementos at every turn and a ‘member for the day’ experience that includes a personalised bag tag and post-round club cleaning, a day at the Twenty Ten at Celtic Manor is a really fun experience and a must for any golfing aficionado.

Roman Road Course

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, the Roman Road Course was the first built at Celtic Manor and has been thrilling visiting golfers since opening for play in 1995. From the tips the Roman Road Course stretches to about 6,600 yards which is enough to test even the most experienced golfers and with forward tees that bring the yardage to a more manageable 6,000 yards, the higher handicapped golfer can also enjoy the challenge. The course is American in design with large bunkers and the odd expanse of water providing much of the challenge and with a fantastic variety of holes, some of which take you right past the imposing Resort Hotel, all aspects of your game will be tested.

Montgomerie Course

Colin Montgomerie’s name will of course forever be associated with Celtic Manor following his team’s famous victory at the 2010 Ryder Cup but his association with the resort began long before then when he designed his championship layout that has become one of the best resort courses in the UK. Like the Roman Road, Montgomerie’s course scales its fair share of hills so taking a buggy is advised. With deep, links-inspired bunkers and plenty of elevated tees shots, not to mention the exciting par 5 3rd which drops away in front of your eyes into the Usk Valley, the Montgomerie is a golfing thrill ride from start to finish.

Accommodation at Celtic Manor Hunter Lodges

The Hunter Lodges are designed for groups who want space and privacy without losing the convenience of staying at Celtic Manor. Inside, you've got four en-suite double bedrooms with king-size beds, so everyone gets their own bathroom and a proper night's sleep before an early tee time.

The heart of the lodge is the open-plan living and dining space. It's made for post-round catch-ups, card games, highlights on Sky Sports and the inevitable debate over who found the most bunkers on the Roman Road. Complimentary WiFi is included and the kitchen is genuinely usable rather than an afterthought, ideal if you're planning self catered breaks with a big shop, easy breakfasts and a few relaxed dinners in.

For recovery, there's an indoor sauna and an outdoor hot tub, both spot on after 36 holes on the hills of the Montgomerie or a long, demanding day around the Twenty Ten. Despite the peaceful setting, you're still close to the action. The spa and health club are on resort, as are six restaurants, and Rafters in the Twenty Ten clubhouse is nearby for a proper cooked breakfast.

Dining is flexible and suits most group styles. You can book restaurants on site, arrange a gourmet hamper for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or organise a takeaway delivery if you'd rather keep things casual. The overall feel is five-star, but the format is relaxed, you set the pace and the lodge gives you the breathing room to do the trip your way.

The lodges are nestled in the Usk Valley with sweeping views over the Twenty Ten Course and the Welsh countryside beyond. With 4,000 square feet of elegant interior design and all the amenities you'd expect from a modern five-star hotel, comfort and enjoyment are pretty much guaranteed.

Four en-suite king bedrooms per lodge, open-plan living and dining, fully equipped kitchen, indoor sauna, outdoor hot tub, Sky TV, complimentary WiFi.
