The original eighteen holes at Chateau Des Vigiers were designed by the esteemed Donald Steel, and were opened in 1991. While these were well received, the demand of golfing visitors to this amazing destination necessitated expansion, and a further nine holes have recently been completed.
Steel is regarded as one of the most subtle golf course designers, and one who always remains appreciative and aware of the effects on the local landscape. As such, Steel allowed the terrain to dictate the style of the course, and the results are spectacular. The condition of the courses is always impeccable, and there can surely be few more special places to enjoy holiday golf than this charming corner of Aquitaine.
Vigiers also has a 6-hole academy course that is perfect for beginners or youngsters, a full practice area with 24 open driving ranges, pitching greens, training bunkers a chipping and putting green alongside a putting green.
Chateau Des Vigiers is a special golf holiday destination, tucked away in the dramatic rural landscape of south west France’s Aquitaine region in the Dordogne valley. Guests can choose from a number of different accommodation options, all of which ooze the traditional and quintessential charm of the estate’s surroundings. Chose the stay in the 16th century Chateau or opt for one of the fabulous Relais rooms which is situated next to the 1st Tee.
The historic chateau, which dominates the landscape, was fully restored in 1991, and now fulfils its magical potential. Its 25 rooms are traditional and luxurious, with many period features merely adding to the charm and class. Added in 1992, the Dependances boosted the Vigiers total by 22 rooms, while the Relais des Vigiers, opened in Spring 2008, features a further 40 deluxe rooms and suites.
All the accommodation is superbly appointed, and features the perfect balance of traditional charm and modern convenience. It is of little surprise that Chateau Des Vigiers remains among the most desirable and exclusive destinations in France, so why not make it the choice for your next escape to the Aquitaine region.
The renowned Maria Galland spa in Paris is the influence for the wellness complex at Chateau Des Vigiers, where the three deluxe treatment rooms are complemented by a sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, outdoor swimming pool and a well equipped gym.
Chateau Des Vigiers still produces outstanding dry white, red, rose and sweet wines, while the region’s names like St Emilion, Sauternes and Medoc should certainly not be missed.
The gourmet and 1 Michelin starred Les Fresques is the highlight of the gastronomic experience at Vigiers, where foie gras and duck are among the Dordogne specialities.

Lovely hotel. Room great other than the shower which is over the slope end of the bath so very slippery and potentially dangerous.

The hotel is a bit remote but it has two restaurants on site. One is a Michelin 1 starred restaurant (very expensive) and the other is more reasonable. They have a table d'hote menu (36 euros for 3 courses) which changes everyday as well as a normal menu. We stayed at the Relais which is a separate block of rooms. The room had an ensuite shower and was very large and comfortable. The staff were excellent.

Very few memorable holes. The Vignes course had a number of boring par fours one after the other. Most important, they have limited buggies and few electric trolleys. This is a real issue as all three nines have some pretty big hills and a ouch trolley would have been very difficult. The Pro shop were excellent though and very helpful. We did eventually get a buggy and trolleys but it was a daily worry whether we would. Book these well before travel.

What a delight to play at a golf resort where there are no marshalls telling you who you should play with. It is as if you were playing as a member of your own golf club. There are three separate 9 hole courses, which are colour coded and you are told when you arrive at the pro shop which two lots of 9 hole courses you are to play. We played all three courses with different combinations. A most enjoyable golfing experience.
