While its illustrious neighbours may cast long shadows over the stunning Pebble Beach® area, Del Monte is the best established in the resort. In fact, it is the oldest course west of the Mississippi to be open continually, having been inaugurated in 1897.

After originally opening as a 9-hole course, Charles E. Maud expanded Del Monte into an 18-hole golf course in 1902, which then went onto attract some of the game's best players and help grow the game on the west coast. One of the biggest traditions at Del Monte Golf Club is The Monterey City Amateur which has hosted the tournament dating back to 1953.

Del Monte Golf Course

Narrow and tree-lined, Del Monte is a throwback in golf course architecture terms, but remains a truly exacting proposition. Designed by Charles Maud, better known in polo circles than golf, Del Monte is used for prestigious state and regional tournaments including the California State Amateur.

It may not have the great lustre and high profile of its Pebble Beach neighbours, but Del Monte is an institution of this golfing wonderland that certainly deserves a visit.
