The Eindhoven Golf Club is another outstanding course devised by the great Harry Shapland Colt in the Netherlands, but unlike his gems of the North Sea Coast, it is reminiscent of the most famous heathland tracks in the south of England.

Eindhoven Golf Club

Opened in 1930, the club is just south of Eindhoven, and was founded at the behest of one Dr. Philips, the man at the head of Philips Electrical Company, one of the country's most successful exporters.

The fairways are lined with the characteristic purple heather, but Colt has also managed to skillfully integrate a number of streams and ponds, all complemented by some outstanding bunkering. The two loops return back to the clubhouse to create a fantastic stadium finish, which helps to explain why Eindhoven has played host to the Dutch Open, and more recently the KLM Ladies Open.

This top track is another example of classic Colt design in the Netherlands, and should feature highly on the wish list of any lovers of heathland golf.
