Set in Normandy's countryside just outside Deauville, Golf Barriere De Saint-Julien is a 27-hole parkland venue surrounded by apple orchards and open farmland. It's an easy add-on if you're basing yourself on the coast but want an inland test away from the Channel winds.
The headline course is Le Vallon, a par 72 designed with a British parkland feel. You'll find mature trees, natural movement in the land and several water hazards that can bring big numbers into play if you get loose off the tee. The greens are quick, so it's worth arriving early for a roll on the practice green before you head to the 1st. Strategic bunkering and well-placed hazards reward accuracy over distance, so bring a sensible gameplan and you'll enjoy it.
Le Bocage is the on-site 9-holer and it's a handy option for mixed-ability groups, a warm-up loop or a shorter day when you want to combine golf with Deauville's restaurants and beach.
Off the course, the clubhouse is a real highlight with regional Normandy food and cracking views back over the property. There's also a driving range and short-game area if you want to sharpen things up before your round.

Just ten minutes from the coastal resort town of Deauville is the Golf Barrière de Saint-Julien complex, where you can enjoy golf in the most beautiful country environment.
The main event at Saint-Julien is Le Vallon, the excellent championship course. Unlike many of Northern France's coastal courses, Le Vallon has the distinct feel of an American resort course, and will certainly favour the long hitters. The 6,638 yard course is not the most difficult in the local area, but the speed of the greens is renowned, so a tight short game is essential.
At the heart of the stunning Pays d'Auge countryside, Saint-Julien also has a tricky nine-hole layout. Le Bocage's par-33 track is the perfect practice ground for budding stars, while those looking to wind down their golfing careers will be equally at home.

On the first day play was slow with high handicappers, then on the second day we were behind a group of 20+ people Playing what looked like a form of scramble taking 20 minutes a hole, we waited on every shot and eventually came off and abandoned the round on the 8th hole. IG would have been a 6 hour round - in the rain!

The course has suffered from wet weather and needed to be mown more (perhaps we just went on the wrong day) - don't get me wrong - it is a lovely well laid out course and an enjoyable experience.

A perfectly acceptable course with a few 'stand out' holes including the first which, for a first hole was particularly challenging. It will not go down as one of the most memorable courses we've played but, on the other hand, it was a very pleasant round of golf. YGT arranged a club house 30%discount on drinks which was much appreciated and the welcome and service we received in the clubhouse was very good indeed. As the rounds were included in the overall cost of our package I can't tell whether it represented good value for money but we met a group who had arranged their holiday themselves and paid £65 per round which we felt, for the quality of the course was a little on the high side.

We played on a wet day and they were just sanding the greens in front of us so unable to putt properly, so felt very cheated as we were not advised this was happening. Course was not the tidiest no on course toilet facilities, would not recommend.
