Hills Course, Palmetto Dunes
Arthur Hills crafted a par-72 masterpiece that stretches to over 6,600 yards, but don't let the yardage fool you, it is widely considered the toughest test at Palmetto Dunes. The character of the course is defined by its rolling dunes and the complete lack of fairway bunkers; instead, Hills utilised off-balance lies and an intricate network of lagoons to protect par. Water comes into play on 10 holes, demanding a "point-to-point" approach where placement is everything.
The fun truly begins at the 12th hole, a par 4 perched at one of the island's highest points, where the fairway narrows dramatically as it approaches a water-guarded green. On the 15th, you’ll find yourself playing toward the 94-foot Rear Lighthouse of the Hilton Head Range Light Station, a cast-iron sentinel that has watched over these grounds since 1880. The greens are compact, undulating and often raised, guarded by deep sandy pits that punish any lapse in concentration.
