The Inn at Spanish Bay sits on the iconic 17-Mile Drive, tucked among Monterey pines with a proper links feel right on the edge of the Pacific. If you're heading to the Monterey Peninsula for a golf trip, this is one of those stays that just makes sense. You've got Spanish Bay on the doorstep, Pebble Beach Resort's big hitters within easy reach, and the ocean air in your lungs from the moment you step outside.
Service is a big part of the story here. Condé Nast Traveller has recognised the property in its US resort coverage, and the overall experience is exactly what you want after 18 holes in coastal wind. Think relaxed luxury rather than stuffy, with plenty of spots to sit out with a drink and watch the light roll in off the water.
For golfers, the appeal is simple. You can base yourself in comfort, play world-famous courses nearby and still have proper downtime built into the trip. For non-golfers or mixed groups, it's equally strong. Coastal walks, spa time and excellent dining mean nobody's just tagging along.
If you're doing a Pebble week, this is a smart base for mixing big-ticket rounds with a slightly more relaxed resort feel. The Scottish-style links course runs right out to the Pacific, and you're close enough to the other resort courses that you can plan your days around tee times without spending half your trip in a car. Pack layers, the coastal breeze can turn quickly late afternoon.
Who is this for?
Golfers and leisure travellers who want a premium Monterey Peninsula base with easy access to Pebble Beach Resort courses and resort-level facilities.
Who is it best for?
Golf groups chasing once-in-a-lifetime rounds, couples who want golf plus spa and scenery, and mixed parties who need a high-end resort with plenty to do off the course.

Set between the rugged Pacific shoreline and the Del Monte forest, The Inn at Spanish Bay has 269 rooms and suites, many with a private patio or balcony looking out over the pines, the fairways and, in places, the ocean beyond. The rooms lean warm and welcoming rather than flashy, which works well after a long day on the course.
If you're travelling as a golf group, it's a very easy place to operate from. Plenty of space to spread out, a calm atmosphere and facilities that keep everyone entertained between tee times. You've also got access to the Spanish Bay Club and the Beach and Tennis Club. There's strong fitness provision, tennis courts, plus a heated swimming pool and hot tub for a recovery session after walking 18.
For a proper reset, factor in time at the Spa at Pebble Beach. It's the sort of add-on that turns a great golf break into a genuinely rounded trip, especially for couples or anyone doubling up golf with a bit of luxury downtime. The spa is a short trip from the property, and if you've got the time in your itinerary, it's worth building in.
Food and drink are a real plus on-site, which matters when you've got early tee times and don't want to over-plan evenings. Peppoli delivers Tuscan-themed Italian with a solid wine list, ideal for a slower, sit-down dinner. The setting is warm and inviting, and the food is the sort you'll want to linger over.
Roy's takes a different approach, offering Hawaiian fusion inspired by internationally renowned chef Roy Yamaguchi. It's a lively bar and diner with bold flavours and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for an evening after a long day on the course. Between the two, you've got plenty of variety without needing to leave the resort.

We were very lucky to have a room with an ocean view - if you can upgrade it's worth the extra expense. Fabulous rooms! Awesome outdoor area with fires! and of course you have the bagpiper putting the course to sleep every night! What's not to love!
