Troia Golf Course

Golf Magazine ranked Troia as the 25th best course in Europe, which is high praise indeed. Trent Jones' superb layout is characterised by small greens and narrow fairways, guarded by the sandy dunes that make the peninsula so special. Troia is a former Portuguese Open Host, and more recently was the venue for the European Amateur Championships, underlining how good the championship course is.

Trent Jones recently stated that he would include the third hole if he could create an eclectic course from all his projects, so why not visit Troia to experience it yourself?

With fast-running fairways and within one of the most picturesque parts of Portugal, a round of golf with views across the peninsula of Troia is going to be a golf trip that you won't forget.

Attracting guests for decades, Troia looks set to embark on another exciting adventure with the surrounding area attracting a host of new golf courses and golf hotels which will see it become one of the best golf destinations in the world.

Rated the 4th best course in Portugal? More like 4th worst! A course can not live on good design alone. Played course in mid 1990’s and looks like nothing spent to maintain course, club house and practice facilities. Backs of tees falling down, fairway with weeds, long grass or bare patches, greens diseased and damaged. Had buggies break down twice in a round and after many phone calls to office, even had phone slammed down on us. So much for customer service! A ruined round of golf! Avoid the place, go to nearby Dunas or new course at Torre (opening next year).

My husband said he would not play this again even if it was free. Condition was appalling on tees and fairways. Greens were not too bad. They need to really invest a ton of money in this course with all the development in the area.

This is a real good test with smallish greens and plenty of bunkers. We’ve played it before but forgotten how good it is, we really enjoyed this layout.

First time at this tight challenging course, where everything off the fairway and first cut is a waste area of sand as you would expect on a narrow peninsular. Greens and fairways were very good, staff friendly and helpful

Course was good, apart from from boar damage next to some greens which wasn’t marked GUR , club house was very basic, good experience but probably wouldn’t go back

Unfortunately our journey to Troia was hampered by a bridge closure and a broken fan belt. We were due to tee off at 13.00 but did not arrive until 15.45 !!! Teeing off at 16.00 Restaurant closed at 16.00 and the Bar at 18.00 so no facilities available and a long journey back to the hotel arriving at 11.30 ! Fortunately the hotel were able to provide us with a late snack. 6/10

A really nice course, stunning dunes location with sea views and some tricky links holes but not so hard it was impossible like West Cliff!! Very quiet in July so we played a two ball and weren't held up at all. I'd certainly like to play this one again. Very tranquil setting. Nice clubhouse, good menu. All round good choice.

A terrific course and in very good condition. But the extensive waste areas proved too much of a challenge for the higher handicappers in our group. Overall, the best course we played.

Played two days. Day one, good pace of play, great views. Day two, we were the only people playing, or so it seemed. Played the front nine, had some lunch the continued to play. No one else there! What more could you ask for.

Really liked the course. Clubhouse and service was below par for a top course, but setting was great and whilst the course wasn’t emasculate, it had lots of charm and fun holes.

A good course with bunkers in front of every green. Fairways in good order but miss them and you pay the penalty in soft sand/wasteland. Greens in top order and the facilities were first class. Well worth a visit.

As for the course, well, if you haven’t been, you’re really missing something. Built on what is basically an enormous sandbank, it’s one of the best layouts I’ve ever played. Old school, links land and pine trees, length, doglegs, more sand than Whistling Straits and tiny greens (I swear that the green on the 14th, a 475 metre triple dogleg par 5, is smaller than my bathroom at home). And on the rare occasions I was trying to get on in regulation I had a 4 iron in my hand. What’s not to like! Believe me, this place will get into your soul.
