1 Night, 2 Rounds
- 1 Night Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood Spa & Golf Resort
- 2 Rounds at The Westerwood Golf Club
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Tucked into peaceful countryside between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Glasgow Westerwood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort sits beneath the Kilsyth Hills with cracking views over the Campsie Fells. It's the sort of place that works brilliantly for a quick Scottish golf break because you get the best of both worlds: a proper resort feel when you arrive, plus easy access to Glasgow city centre and the airport when it's time to travel.
On site you've got all the recovery kit you'd want for a weekend of 36 holes, including a full spa, a gym and a heated indoor pool. It's also a handy base for mixed groups. Golfers can disappear to the first tee while everyone else books a treatment, hits the pool or heads into Glasgow for food, shopping and a bit of atmosphere.
If you do fancy heading into town, Rogano's a strong shout for seafood in the city centre, while Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Galleries cover you for shopping. Time it right and the Old Firm derby is as loud, frantic and unforgettable as football gets.
Who is this for?
Golf groups, couples and societies who want a quick Scotland fix with on-site spa facilities and easy access to Glasgow for food, shopping and football.
Who is it best for?
Mixed-ability groups and mid-handicappers who want a strategic Par 71 with bunkers and water to keep it interesting, plus proper recovery facilities (pool, sauna, treatments) after the round.

The Westerwood course is a Par 71 measuring 6,307 yards from the back tees and it's a modern resort test designed by Seve Ballesteros and Dave Thomas. It's also regularly mentioned as one of the best heathland layouts to open in Scotland in recent years, which tells you what to expect underfoot: springy turf, strategic bunkering and a course that rewards decent positioning rather than just swinging harder.
You'll see plenty of sand and a few water features shaping decisions from the tee, so it's not a driver-everywhere sort of round. If you're a mid-handicapper, the key is picking the right tees and keeping the ball in play. The holes tend to offer a sensible route in, but the moment you get greedy the hazards are waiting.
The routing takes full advantage of the natural contours at the base of the Campsie Hills, and there's enough variety in the test to keep stronger players engaged while giving higher handicappers a fair chance if they plot their way round sensibly. I'd call it challenging but fair, and exactly the kind of course where you'll enjoy the round even if you don't have your A-game.
What makes it work for groups is that stronger players can take on more carries and tighter lines, while those playing off higher handicaps can find a route without feeling like every hole is a survival exercise. The bunkering is strategic rather than penal, and the water comes into play often enough to make you think but not so much that it dominates the round.
It's a good fit for a weekend break because you can play it twice and still find new angles and challenges, particularly if the wind picks up. The course sees plenty of play year-round as a resort layout, so don't expect pristine tour-level conditions in the depths of winter, but it's well maintained and the heathland turf drains quickly after rain.
The hotel is a purpose-built 4-star resort with close to 150 rooms and it's a comfortable base for a golf weekend, especially if you're travelling as a group. A £5 million development scheme was completed in 2007 and the look and feel is modern throughout. Rooms come with satellite flat-screen TVs, complimentary refreshments, luxury bathrooms with walk-in power showers and WiFi across the property.
The big bonus here is the leisure offering. The Reflections Spa and Leisure complex includes the New Beauty Suite with five air-conditioned treatment rooms, ideal if you fancy a sports massage after 18 holes. There's also a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gymnasium, plus outdoor tennis courts and even dance classes if you've got energy left in the tank.
Rooms are spacious enough to store golf gear without tripping over it, and the walk-in showers make a difference after a long day on the course. The beds are comfortable and you'll get a proper night's sleep before an early tee time. Standard rooms cover everything you need, and the modern finishes keep it feeling fresh rather than tired.
If you're travelling with non-golfers, it's an easy win: they can actually have a good day while you're out on the course, then everyone can meet back at the hotel to eat, have a drink and plan the next round. The hotel works well for groups, with enough communal space to gather after the round and the spa facilities give those sitting out a round something worthwhile to do.
Dining is available on site, which is handy if you want to stay put after a long day, but Glasgow is close enough for an evening out if you want more variety or a livelier atmosphere. The location really is the sweet spot: far enough out to feel like you've escaped the city, but near enough to the airport and city centre to make travel straightforward.
For a Scottish golf break that pairs serious heathland golf with proper recovery facilities and easy access to Glasgow, Westerwood ticks the boxes. The course is strategic and well designed, the hotel is comfortable and geared towards golf groups, and the spa ensures you'll leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Stay and golf were great. Recommend a buggy it has some very steep hill (I’m 51 and thought I was a goner). Room great. Bar lounge and bar food great. Meal in dining room was terrible. Rump of lamb and it was £28. We made a point of letting staff know. On hindsight, would’ve opted for the bar/lounge menu and more chilled out space. Spa was good, but could do with a bit of tlc. Good course. Great value golf trip though at 2 rounds, DB&B.

Even though we all enjoyed the course there were some disappointments. The greens were quite bobbly, the tee boxes were badly cut up and because of the distance between some of the holes it took over 4 hours to complete. The course would be excellent with a bit of TLC but as I said at the start everyone enjoyed the round. Very challenging with all the water hazards.

Litter around the course that was there the year before, the place needs a spring clean at the least.

Some lovely shaped holes but long for the average handicap, some long walks between green and the next tee , buggy recommended greens weren't great but getting better , overall still enjoyed it.
