4 Nights, 3 Rounds
Perched on Gran Canaria's southwest coast just west of Maspalomas, Anfi Tauro Golf is one of those courses that makes you stop on the first tee and take it all in. You get that Arizona-style desert feel, then you look up and it's volcanic mountains, look out and it's the Atlantic. Not a bad backdrop for a round.
It's a great championship layout too, regularly rated among Spain's top 20. Von Hagge, Smelek & Baril didn't exactly take the easy route when they built it either, shifting over three million cubic metres of earth to carve fairways through the rock. The end result is striking: emerald strips of turf winding through dark volcanic stone with plenty of elevation to keep your eye (and your ball flight) honest.
From the back tees it stretches past 6,300 metres and when the wind gets up it can feel every bit of that. The good news is there are five sets of tees, so you can pick the right test for your group and still have a great day out.
In playing terms, it's a course that rewards sensible club selection and a bit of course management. The terrain and the breeze have a habit of biting back if you get greedy, but play within yourself and you'll walk off with a scorecard you're happy to show.
Who is this for?
Golfers who want a standout holiday course, big views and a bit of theatre on every hole.
Who is it best for?
Mid to low handicappers, or mixed groups who'll choose tees sensibly and enjoy target-style golf in the wind.

Designer Robert von Hagge took golf in the Canary Islands in a new direction with Anfi Tauro. The region has plenty of undulating parkland layouts but as good as they are none can compare with this dramatic Arizona-style course that's set in acres of lush green gardens with rich vegetation, lakes and waterfalls and enclosed by impressive volcano shaped mountains.
The conditioning and challenges the golf course presents live up to the scenery, and numerous tees on the course allow players of all levels to enjoy the experience to the full. The round is full of strong holes, most notably the 6th on the front nine, which is a much-photographed short hole playing towards a large pyramid of rock with the ocean behind. On the back nine you play into a canyon in the volcanic rock and every hole provides bucket loads of visual drama as well as some heart-stopping shots.

Nestled among stunning volcanic peaks, vibrant aromatic gardens, and awe-inspiring lakes, the 9-hole par-3 course offers even more delightful surprises. Additionally, you'll find a world-class golf academy, an impressive driving range, dedicated chipping areas, putting greens, and multiple practice bunkers.
The Clubhouse is a beautiful two-story building with comprehensive facilities and a large restaurant with ample outdoor areas where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the golf and the majestic Tauro Valley from every angle.

The greens had been cored and were very poor. They gave a free buggy but I would have played somewhere else as putting was a joke. There was no clubhouse only pool side chairs in the pool areas by the kids pool (bit weird). The course itself was a real treat, good variety of holes but course had been shortened ended up playing off the yellows.

Bunkers had lining coming through. Other than that good condition. Very slow and one round was 5 hours 45

Some of the holes on this course are spectacular driving over ravines and enjoying some fantastic views it was well worth the trip to get here. It is part of the hotel so changing and refreshment facilities after the round are limited. Lovely halfway house where you have to stop to admire the views. It was busy so slow rounds and you have to use a buggy as some holes are a long way up. Well worth a visit if you are going and probably the best course out here in my view.
