The golf course at Enniscrone Golf Club dates back to 1918. Starting out as a 9 hole links course, the course saw its fortunes and rankings dramatically improve following the work of Eddie Hackett who turned Enniscrone into an 18 hole course in 1974. Donald Steel went further in adding another 9 holes to allow for 27 holes of golf to be enjoyed within this natural links landscape. Enniscrone has been a regular within the Top 100 Golf Course rankings not only in Ireland (13th) but also within the UK and Ireland (63rd) and is a must play when visiting the North West of Ireland.

Considered by many to be located in one of the best areas of links land anywhere in the world, the terrain and dunes which frame not only the Championship Links course (Dunes) but also the newer 9 (Scurmore) make for a memorable visit to any golf tour of the Sligo and Donegal area.

Located less than an hour from both Sligo and Knock, golfers heading here are spoilt for choice when putting together a list of golf courses of the very purest links golf experience.

The Bartragh Peninsula, which plays host to Enniscrone, boasts some of the most natural links turf around. It may be a private members club, but the locals are always accommodating, and keen to share their amazing course which is considered one of Ireland's best.

At over 7,000 yards from the back tees, the par 73 is one that encourages you to play the course as it faces you with plenty of opportunities to find the green with your approaches provided you are accurate enough off the tee to find the sloping fairways. With a number of holes providing stunning sea views, which are protected by some of the largest dunes anywhere in golf, it is easy to get distracted but focusing on finding the short stuff off the tee is essential to play anywhere near your handicap here.

In addition to the flagship Dunes championship Course, the club offers the Scurmore course, which is also a top traditional Irish links layout that is equally challenging when the Irish Sea shows its elements.

The club was also awarded the accolade of The Golf Course of The Year in 2008 by The Irish Golf Tour Operators with guests remarking on the warm welcome received by golfers as they played their round of golf here. Another fan of Enniscrone is 6-time Major winner and former Irish Open winner, Sir Nick Faldo who said "Got to be the most dramatic, powerful and challenging dunes in links golf!" praise indeed.
