Parkstone was originally laid out by two-time Open Championship winner Willie Park Jnr. opening for play in 1909, the course has undergone some significant changes since then, most notably in 1937 when James Braid revised the layout.

Reg Whitcombe, the 1938 Open Champion, once said of Parkstone 'There is no better place' and many agree with him as it is ranked as the top course in Dorset and among the Top 50 golf courses in England.

The course is laid out on land similar to a links course, sandy but a bit more undulating, in an area of the Luscombe Valley that offers superb views of Poole Harbour and Bay. Parkstone is Dorest golf at its very best and is a perfect addition to a golf tour in the Bournemouth area.

The fact that Parkstone is now regarded as one of the South coast's best courses is credit to the intervention of a certain James Braid, one of the most prolific golf course designers in British history. The Scot, who also lifted the Claret Jug on five occasions, revised Parkstone's layout in 1937, and the resultant course is an outstanding creation.

Towering pines line the fairways, while the abundant heather throughout gives the landscape a rugged heathland accent. Parkstone has been ranked in the best 120 courses in Great Britain by Golf Magazine, and is an essential component of any good Bournemouth golf tour.

The heathland character of the course is visible today because of strenuous work that was put in to remove trees and scrub, ensuring a round at Parkstone is almost the same as when golfers with hickory clubs played the course.

Parkstone has had a good affiliation with golfing greats, Peter Alliss, who was the head professional in the 1960s, held the course record for many years and 2018 Women's British Open champion Georgia Hall joined the club in 2012 and is still an Honorary Member of the Club.

When planning to play golf courses in Dorset make sure to include Parkstone Golf Club along with the likes of Ferndown Golf Club, Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, Queens Park Golf Club and the Club at Meyrick Park.
