St James Hotel Nottingham

Very Good See all 7 reviews

Tucked into the heart of Nottingham city centre, St James Hotel is a smart, independent boutique base that keeps everything simple for a Nottinghamshire golf break. You're within easy reach of Nottingham Train Station and step outside to find Nottingham Castle opposite, ideal if you fancy a wander before dinner or want to get your bearings before heading out to the courses.

For golfers, the big win is location. You can get out to courses across the county without the faff, then come back to the city for food, a few beers and plenty of nightlife. The hotel was refurbished in 2014 with a nod to the grand palazzos of Venice, so it feels stylish without trying too hard. If you're organising a group or society, it's the sort of place that works well as a central meeting point. You can get everyone checked in, head out for your rounds and still have a lively, walkable city centre scene for the evening.

Who is this for?
Golfers wanting a central Nottingham base with easy access to courses across the county, plus the convenience of city centre dining and nightlife.

Who is it best for?
Groups and societies looking for a stylish, independent hotel that combines boutique character with practical location, and couples or solo travellers who value individual style over chain hotel uniformity.

Accommodation at St James Hotel Nottingham

St James has 87 bedrooms, all individually styled, with options that suit everything from a value-focused overnight to a more indulgent weekend in the city. At the entry level, the crash pads are compact and modern, a good shout if you're mainly here to play golf and want a comfortable base in a prime location. Move up the categories and you'll find more space to spread out, which is handy if you're travelling with a partner or you've got early morning kit prep before a tee time. At the top end, The Penthouse is the upgrade for anyone wanting extra comfort and a bit more of a treat.

The social heart of the hotel is the No/6 lounge and bar. It's open from early morning through to late evening, so it works whether you need breakfast before heading out, a quick bite between plans or a relaxed drink when everyone's back in. For groups, it's an easy meeting spot to run through the next day's timings without disappearing into separate corners of the city. The menu covers everything from morning coffee and a full breakfast to light bites, snacks and a well-stocked bar, so you're sorted whatever time you roll in.

One of the nicer touches is the library wall with over five hundred books. If you've walked 18 and you're ready to put your feet up, it's a great place to settle in with a drink and wind down before heading out for dinner. It adds a bit of character and creates a relaxed, club-like feel that sets the hotel apart from more generic city centre options.

Overall, it's a characterful boutique choice that suits golfers who want a handy Nottingham base with good evening options, without the feel of a standard chain hotel. The combination of central location, individual style and all-day dining makes St James a practical and distinctive pick for a Nottinghamshire golf break.

Small but perfectly formed! Be aware that there are two NCP car parks in Nottingham. One next to the hotel and the other (cheaper) is a 6 minute walk away. Great breakfast.
