The 18-hole County Course is the signature of the Essex Golf and Country Club, and is a tremendous blend of challenging and enjoyable holes. When played from the championship markers, the layout measures some 6,907 yards, making power a serious advantage, particularly on the 5 par-5s which can offer good birdie chances.
The excellent design is fortunate to be supported by a fully computerised irrigation system which helps to keep the teeing areas and putting surfaces in pristine condition throughout the year. The best holes on the course bookend the start and end of your round, where it is essential to avoid the severe bunkers that guard the greens.
The Garden Course is a charming 9-hole course, which is kept in comparable condition to the formidable County layout. The mixture of challenging par-3s, tricky par-4s and a par-5 makes the Garden ideal for beginners and learners, but also represent some light relief for those who have tackled the ‘big course'.
In addition to the two golf courses, the Essex Golf & Country Club is one of the most complete practice and tuition destinations, featuring a 20-bay driving range, a specialised academy facility which boasts the latest video technology and even an indoor practice area. The qualified PGA professionals are on hand to provide expert guidance and tuition.

Very nice venue rooms been refurbed so very nice pool and steam room and changing area excellent … if I was to pick holes not enough staff although staff that were there were great and very helpful. Also all these sports and leisure hotels never seem to cater for evenings other than a bar … a few snooker tables dartboards pool tables etc they seem to have big empty conference rooms all these sports time be good idea to put some more activities in them but that’s just an opinion

Very expensive for drinks, closed bar at 22-00 on Friday night, staff were quite good but really ought to think about lowering prices, cashless through out so card only, some peoples bank accounts are going to be hit heavy.

Breakfast was buffet style, coffee was excellent. Bar was expensive as you would expect but that may just be me out of touch! Dinner was okay. One member of our party had his starter changed from the set menu without being told we only found out when it was brought to the table. No towels in the room, had to go to the reception building to get some, again not the end of the world but would expect that as basic to be provided

Disappointed with twin beds pushed together rather than double which we were assured of getting. The food was of very poor quality and very limited choice.

Course in very good condition greens could have done with a cut but still very good and I expect probably left slightly longer because of hot weather all in all very good course…. What I will say is Benton hall and the Essex woeful pro shops just some shoes for sale at Benton hall on a table in foyer and an actual single wheeled rack of about ten ass shirts in restaurant at Essex that was pretty poor but staff good restaurant very good food but a tad expensive but nice place again would re visit

Course played well, fairways in good condition for this time of year. The Greens were a bit slow in need of a cut. Overall experience was great not too crowded and the driving range a great set up. Will only go again if the food improves.

As a novice Golfer - the championship course was a real test, but hugely enjoyable. The Garden course was also delightful with a few more Par 3s - nine hole which we played twice.
