3 Nights, 2 Rounds
While the Old Course Vilamoura grabs most of the attention, I'd argue the Millennium is the one plenty of golfers end up talking about afterwards. Opened in 2000 and designed by Martin Hawtree, it's matured nicely, sitting comfortably in Vilamoura's rolling terrain and pine woodland without feeling tight or overly punitive.
You'll find it in the heart of the Algarve, just a few minutes from Vilamoura's marina, beach and hotels, so it's an easy one to slot into a trip alongside the headline acts. If you're planning a week with a mixed-ability group, that's a big tick.
The Millennium's strength is balance. There's enough width from the tee to keep mid-handicap golfers in the game, but the smarter lines into the greens and well-placed bunkering reward anyone who thinks their way round. Approach play matters, with plenty of subtly shaped greens that can make position more important than pure power.
The back nine brings a bit more bite, with water coming into play on a handful of holes, so commitment is key when you're attacking flags. All told, it's a polished, enjoyable test and a great shout if you want one of the best courses in the area without the feeling you're being beaten up for every slight miss.
Who is this for?
Golfers building a Vilamoura itinerary who want a quality round close to the marina and hotels, with enough strategy to keep everyone interested.
Who is it best for?
Mixed-ability groups and mid to low handicappers who enjoy thoughtful risk-reward holes and greens that make you earn your score.

The Millennium is a fantastic course in its own right, measuring 6,176 metres, which cuts through the monumental pine forests that dominate the landscape. Martin Hawtree was responsible for creating the layout, using 9 holes of the old Laguna course, and he has been successful in producing a beautiful course that strikes the perfect balance of testing the better golfers whilst remaining manageable for the average visitor.
The short 6th is the highlight of Millennium Vilamoura, where the target will shrink before your eyes as you stare over the imposing water that guards the front of the green. This hole typifies how enjoyable the course is, making it a sure fire hit for your golf holiday in Vilamoura.

Another beautiful course in Vilamoura. Very well maintained but definitely challenging. The clubhouse is lovely too with a nice big patio overlooking the course. Water and tees provided free with the buggies is a nice touch and we were given lots of information about the course before going out which was helpful.

Let down by rubbish buggies with no navigation systems. One of our buggies kept stopping and we had to push it to make it work. expected better. Course was really fun and challenging and overall in great condition. Food was good and staff friendly overall.

A more open course with fairways not too tight and greens are larger than pinhal, a great experience and a much better pace of play on the day we played, still a great experience and I will be back many thanks to YGT.

Staff were great. We were a 4, 3 and 2 ball and they managed to squeeze us in as 3 x 3. The course was the easiest we played but was in great condition.
