Carved across the resort's fertile valley floor, the O'Connor Jnr Course is a very different ask to Nick Faldo's hillier layout over the way at Amendoeira. Christy O'Connor Jnr knew this part of the Algarve inside out and you can see it in the routing, it leans into the natural land, with orange groves framing several holes and giving the course its real Algarve character.
Where Faldo's climbs and drops, O'Connor's tends to stay down in the valley. The interest comes from sensible hazards rather than big elevation shifts, with water and well-placed bunkers asking you to pick a line and commit. Off the tee it's welcoming enough for most golfers to enjoy, but it doesn't let you switch off either, especially into the greens where anything slightly loose can leave a tricky up-and-down.
For groups, it's the ideal counterpoint to Faldo: play one course that tests your legs and one that tests your patience. Better players will still find plenty of risk-and-reward moments, while mid to higher handicappers should feel like they've had a fair crack at it.
The O'Connor Jnr sits within the Amendoeira Resort in the heart of the Algarve, so it's an easy one to pair with the Faldo Course or bolt onto a wider Algarve golf break. Play it on your next Golf Holiday to the Algarve.

The undisputed highlight of the O’Connor Course is the designer’s take on Augusta National’s ‘Amen Corner’ – holes 7, 8 and 9 are skirted at various points by a great lake which snakes its way dangerously through three splendid holes.
Skirted by traditional Moorish buildings, dating back to the 13th century, the course’s location is steeped in history, which only adds to the drama. O’Connor’s mighty layout builds nicely to a climax with the phenomenal closing hole, which climbs to a fantastic riverside green.
Like the neighbouring Faldo Course, the O’Connor is an exciting new development that only makes the glorious Algarve more attractive for visiting golfers, providing a first class championship test in truly stunning surroundings.
Signature Hole: Hole 3, Par 3, 178 yards, SI 15
O’Connor’s signature hole is the 3rd, a gorgeous Par 3 where players must avoid a waterway which encroaches upon the fairway from the right. With natural wildlife stirring in the background, you must navigate across an undulating green, albeit on a true putting surface so typical of the course's greens throughout the year.
Oceanico O'Connor Course is ranked as one of the best courses in Portugal

The greens were very nice to putt on although i would say a little soft as made big pitch marks on landing. We played off Yellow Tees and they were very average in terms of condition. Looked overplayed and unloved. In terms of the course we were a group of mid-handicap golfers and found the course quite hard, with the round even around the greens difficult to play. Weather was very warm when we played and didn't see the first drinks/food buggy one day until we were on the 10th hole which was too long in my view in such hot weather.

Very enjoyable, great clubhouse, course overall in great condition. Starting to see some signs of tightening their belts like weeds and not picking up clubs at drop off like they used to. But great to play overall

Loved the set up of this course. Plenty of water to avoid so gave a different challenge to the Faldo course.

We played this course first and it was playing very hard on the day, winds were very strong and it felt like most holes into wind. Apart from that it was a tough challenge, greens were rapid. Overall a very enjoyable round.
