3 Nights, 2 Rounds
Morgado do Reguengo is among the newest additions to the Algarve's impressive golfing portfolio. The course is located just North of Portimao and combines Mountain views with mature Portuguese countryside.
In spite of its relative youth, Morgado do Reguengo has a very mature feel, mostly thanks to a dedicated tree planting programme that has seen a great many olive trees establish themselves across the landscape. This has helped to demarcate the new holes properly, and has added to the aesthetic beauty of the natural surroundings, which are dominated by the imposing Monchique mountains.

As with most new resort courses, Morgado do Reguengo has been built with a number of different tees; although it measures a chunky 7,300 yards from the tips, there is a distance to suit every golfer. So fear not, the course is there for every visitor to the Algarve, and has been already established a good reputation in its short years.
Despite the course appearing quite open on first viewing, the natural undulations and strategically placed bunkers make the layout very enjoyable. It is spread out over many acres of countryside making it the perfect place to relax and focus on your game.
Signature Hole: Hole 18, Par 4, 333 yards, SI 9
The 18th is a fantastic finishing hole, with an elevated tee overlooking a wavy fairway and the clubhouse in the distance. A great way to end your round.

Prior to our trip this was supposed to be the best course we were due to play but unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. I think a number of factors possibly played into this, unfortunately the weather that day wasn't the best (rainy and overcast), the previous 2 courses had been better than expected and finally some of the fairways were bone dry due to the recent drought. It also didn't help that it was very slow to go round as were constantly held up, 4hrs 50min as a 4 ball with buggies is not good and this was playing on a Tuesday when it should be quieter. Most of the paths were roped off so you couldn't drive the buggies on the fairways which added to the frustration. If we were to head to Albufeira again we'd give this course a miss and try something else.

Better suited to the middle handicapper with plenty of hazards but no ball searching.

It would have been a lot better if we had of booked buggies. But got told by your golf travel that we didnt need to as they have plenty. Have the email to prove it. So that made the experience of the course a lot harder as the walk is quite tough around that course

The golf was great. But the transfer to the course left us with only 10 minutes until the tee time. It took 10 mins to sign in so at that point we were already late. The club hire was a nightmare and we were told there were no buggies available. After one guest had an accident the night before we told the staff that he could not play because of this and they miraculously found a buggy. Because of the short timing and rushing around, the staff gave us a mixture of clubs and doubled up on some which became an issue when giving them back and got charged €50. The course was great but the logistics were difficult to ignore.

✓14 Mar 2025
The condition of the course was fantastic but it was the fact that we had the golf buggies and you could only drive on the path due to a lot of water being on the course due to the rain which is understandable but then you had players in front of us which were slow and then players behind us which were a little bit faster than we were, but we made it work but when we got to the 18th They were really slow and there was another couple on the course as well it was a fantastic day out, obviously can’t do anything about the weather, but still a nice course to play

Beautiful golf course, with immaculate greens. We really enjoyed the two rounds on Morgado. Fairways in excellent condition, tee boxes well-maintained and the course was divotted with attention by the staff. Bunkers well prepared for the day's play. Driving range OK, although groundstaff decided the start raking bunkers on the range while about 20 players were practising, meaning that we all had to aim shots to the left considerably. This was off-putting (as we were conscious of not hitting the staff working in front of us!). This type of work could really have been done at a quieter time of day. The only disappointing aspect of this course was the 'fine' received due to the alleged damage to one of our buggys. The front axle had been slightly bent (allegedly) while in use on the golf course. The member of staff involved in this interrupted our post-round drinks in the bar to inform of the 50Euro fine that had to be paid as we had "hit something". The driver of this buggy did not hit anything. The axle damage may have been explained by the plethora of pot holes on both Morgado and Alamos cart paths, which are obviously not attended to by staff, as opposed to reckless driving. The staff obviously did not want to hear this. Unfortunately, we did not take picture / video evidence prior to taking out our buggys, so could not prove any foul play / scam. It was interesting that the member of staff who took the buggys back from us didn't report any damage, it was only an hour or so later that another member of staff miraculously located the alleged damage, and saw fit to disturb us while we enjoyed our time in the bar. I'm sure we were not the only group to have 'hit something' that week in any case - we will be reviewing this golf course separately to warn other visitors about this buggy scam, which I'm sure is quite profitable for the course. On Day 3 when we also hired buggys for the Alamos course, we were careful to take picture and video evidence of the buggy conditions before taking them out. We drove them in the same way around Alamos (arguably with cart paths in a worse state than Morgado), and unsurprisingly no fines were brought (indeed, the buggy staff didn't seem to want to check the buggys at all when we returned them!)

Really looked after, bunkers and water in all the right places. Greens were spot on, you couldn’t really hit a bad putt without a second hard putt. Really made you think about approach shots. Maybe just comparing to the wet courses the UK has at the minute but really enjoyed my round

✓20 Jan 2025
Greens, bunkers, fairways rough all 1st class. Club house and facilities all excellent. Course ratings and slope were about right which was also reflected in our groups scoring, only 1 finished 1 under par net and the majority 3 to 5 over par net. Highly recommend this course but beware, it’s a long one. Restricting buggies to cart paths at most holes also results in some long walks with 3 or for clubs in your hand to and from your ball, which contributes to a slower round.

Big highlight was definitely the excellent greens. Despite the heavy traffic they were still in superb condition Course is on same complex as Alamos and shared the same negatives. Clubhouse staff, shocking service and high cost that despite nice course in good nick would definitely Not be in a rush to return 😢😢😢😢

✓20 Oct 2024
Beautiful layout with lovely use of the natural contours of the hillside and water. Back 9 definitely more interesting and challenging with more memorable holes. It was very forgiving for the odd wayward drive and we were both able to score even though we didn’t play that well. Greens were very good, soft to recieve the ball but still quick enough to putt on. The fairways were struggling a bit in some areas due to lack of growth, rain etc and we needed preferred lies in 4 or 5 areas. The tees could have done with being rotated more often ( they had plenty room ) to ensure high quality areas.
Neil

We played this course the most.a good course for all levels of golf. Greens excellent but due to the lack of rain the fairways were still being maintained.
Richard
✓18 Oct 2024
I think two things were a problem with this course. Firstly the tee time management. It took our three ball nearly FIVE hours to go around here. The slowest round I've ever played in my life. Every tee we had to wait on. I felt to us like they are trying to cram too many people on with inappropriate tee times for the groups going out, or they needed some marshals out on the course to get things moving along. Secondly the layout, especially of the back nine. Often there were long walks between the greens and the next tee. I think the course layout could have been designed better. The condition of the course overall was good. Unfortunately for us, they had very heavy rain the day before we played, making some areas near the greens a little boggy and left a large amount of the bunkers, full of water. The club house was ok but a bottle of water was very expensive at over four euros (a pint of Superbock was not much more!) There were a good amount of trolleys and buggies to hire and reasonable practice facilities. It is a fairly nice course overall, but for the reasons stated above, not one given the choice, I would pick to play again.

Playing on the course was really good as we were first out at 7:30 in the morning, although it was a little dark. The fairways were brown but there’s not a lot. You can do about that as it hasn’t rained for about nine months. Course appeared to be very well maintained and greens and the tea boxes were in very good condition despite the dry season.

✓18 Oct 2023
Clearly course is suffering from the serious shortage of rain (the first 9 holes being more distressed than the back 9). They have protected the greens which were superb. Slow play was very frustrating and 5+ hours meant it was just about dark when we got to the 18th at 7 o’clock ( and millions of mosquitoes too).
Nick
✓28 Sep 2023
I think the lack of water on the course is making this look poor. The greens were ok but the fairways are just dust and needs a lot of water. Appreciate the climate has a lot to do with this but they need some sort of irradiation quick before gets worse .

The only real issue was not enough buggies. We had tried to pre book with no success but managed to get electric trollies instead . In 30 degrees cloudless sky it was a brutal walk at times as the course is long between holes in some instances. The course was lovely with the fairways giving good runs and the greens running true . For once I never ended up In a bunker but they must have been well sanded as my playing friends seemed to always want to be in them 😁. We only saw the refreshment buggy once and really wanted to see it more as the weather was gorgeous. Morgado course we would definitely want to play again but with a buggy.

Played this many times but not recently and significant enhancements have been made, much more manicured and tidy with considerable challenges if you stray offline. Good length for me at 77 and scored 35 with 16shots, highlight was the birdie on the 12th and staying dry. Switched to Salgados as rained off Wednesday at Morgado, early tees only, but that was also very good and nearer to our house.

✓20 Oct 2022
Lovely course kept in really good shape. The usual lack of care repairing pitchmarks by our fellow golfers was a pain, but the greens are large and contoured and played beautifully. Generous fairways stopped this from being a truly hard course though the strategic placing of bunkers means every shot has to be thought through and big hitters can be punished. We averaged 4.5 hrs per round in a buggy and had to wait for a few minutes on most tees. No-one lets anyone through and once you get used to this and have resigned yourself to a slow round you can relax and enjoy this lovely course.

We felt let down on both courses we played by YGT nothing to do with the courses themselves but by the organisation of the buggies we had paid for included in the package we booked, at Morgado they nearly sold the last buggies they had to people looking to buy them because YGT Hadnt paid for or reserved them for us, it took an hours worth of phone calls to get this sorted and at the same time we had to get the following days buggies sorted too. This was very stressful when supposed to be on holiday, Not good enough. We are all looking to book through a different company next year as not only did we have this, we also when had trips cancelled due to covid had to waits 9+ months for a refund and lost our deposits TWO years running.

A very well kept course that never felt busy. The front 9 is flat but the back 9 includes a lot of hills and climbing - again, an issue if you haven’t booked buggies in advance. Transport times allowed for plenty of time to prepare and there were very good practice areas to use. An open course that was quite forgiving for the amateur players (like us) and a joy to play, notwithstanding the uphill hike for the final 9 holes.

Also we did not prebook buggies☹ and there were no spares. Make sure you prebook as it's a long way to pull your clubs. We had finished by 17:45 but the taxi did not come back until 19:00 so we were all hungry by the time we got back to the hotel. Take some food with you from breakfast , cobs, bananas to keep you going and plenty of water. The fairways were ok but too many deep fairway bunkers that were unnecessary, probably because there we not many other hazards as it's quite wide and very little water hazards. The greens were ok but with so many people playing it must be hard to maintain them, with so many visitors paying a lot of money I am surprised the course wasn't built with 2 greens for each hole as it's a massive area the course covers and they probably could have fitted some in if not all. Overall the group enjoyed it. Must point out the road in is block paved for quite a distance and the taxi was rattling a lot!

Morgado still had the rough really long from the weekends Open so very difficult to find balls . Spoilt the day

Decent enough course but spoilt but by the rough, which was so deep any shots off the fairway were not visible unless you were stood directly above the ball. Other than that not a bad course.

Generally liked this course but it was unseasonably hot, we were paired up with a couple in a buggy and the course was very busy. So it felt rather rushed and tiring. The course itself had recently been prepared for a tournament so in good condition overall. The wiry rough had been left long though, so difficult for ladies.

We played this course not long after the Portuguese masters had been played there and believe me it was tough very tough! If you weren’t on the fairway then you can almost guarantee you’d lost your ball as the rough was treacherous! Even dropping a ball from knee height you could barely see your ball! Clubhouse was very expensive €5 for a small bottle of water was ridiculous!!

Only problem was the length of grass off the fairway. Very spongy and 2 to 3 inches deep. Very easy to loose balls.

Lovely course with some tricky holes, had to start on the 10th as large competition going on. Had a 5 ball in front of us and a 4 ball behind who kept hitting the ball up at us which was annoying

A must play course. The wind was up when we played, making it really tough. However it would require some excellent golf to conquer even on a still day.

✓17 Jun 2019
Really enjoyed the course, the only problem being there were too many restrictions placed on where you could take your buggy so this meant a lot of walking to and from it carrying several clubs. This resulted in several backups for all the groups of golfers on the course.

The course itself was great and enjoyed it however the staff were a disgrace in the shop rude ignorant.. I emailed them before the trip to ask about buggies to be told no problem no need to book as they have plenty only to be told on arrival no buggies available. when trying to explain this was just closed down by the rude woman behind the counter just her attitude was a disgrace a few people approached me to then tell me the same thing happened to them so had to walk the course in 35 degrees heat the older people didn't play it the first 9 holes are flat the next 9 are up in the hills.make sure when booking this course you book buggies in advance and be careful of the rude staff

Morgado is definitely more of a Championship course with some fairly boring holes as well as some interesting ones. And although in decent condition, doesn't quite match Alamos. I'd play it once then spend the rest of your time on Alamos or Salgados!

This was a nice course. Lot of work going on replacing turf round greens but not really a problem. Greens heavily sanded but again didn't really affect the golf. Again greens very difficult with loads of slopes. Difficult not to 3 putt. Didn't drain too well after heavy rain. VERY long round on our final day We were 3.5 hours on Alamos in the morning ( we were first out) and 5 hours on Morgados in the afternoon. 5 hours is not acceptable for a game of golf. Generally good course though.

The first nine is flatish and the back nine slightly more hilly. The course was generally in good condition with good greens which had some grain on them. The course is well bunkered and you need to avoid these of the tee. The only downside was that there were a lot of repairs being made to the green surrounds which made chipping tricky.

again we played this Tuesday / Wednesday / Friday and walked all 3 rounds Greens were a better pace on Morgado The fringes of the greens have all been relaid and you could get a dead bounce now and again Practice area was big enough and was used every day by us ( 8 ) Practice putting green was very similar to the course greens Staff were really helpful and liked to banter with us The free post round drink was fantastic and led to a couple more as all private returns were all prebooked with ample time to enjoy after the round Great holiday golf as not to penal Great mix of all types of holes Driveable par 4's Long and short par 3's 2 Unreachable par 5's :) all the guys would definitely return but the travel time to course is at least 35 mins / sometimes 45 mins

The course is undergoing upgrading so don't be put off by my ratings. It's certainly in good enough condition to have a decent game. It's a link style course in the hills. Soooooooo many bunkers, which seemed to be in all the places my ball ran to (13 infact)! Walkable but your legs will ache by the end.

The Bermuda grass has ‘hibernated’ and was brown. It was therefore very unattractive. As a result of the drop in temperature the start times were all delayed by about 1 hour. Not an exciting course as no spectacular holes.

Lots of very dense rough which looks ok from tee but ball sits down very hard to get out of it Lots of bunkers to catch drives NB . Big problem with buggies must be ordered by u well before travel particularly in high season This was not done by u guys so major problem for us not happy at all as I asked several times about buggies and got no reply from Yourgolftravel A lot of clients not happy and Golf Stuart’s blames U guys as recurring problem

After speaking with your golf travel to advise there will be 7 players but 8 on the course, which we were advised at the time of booking wouldn't be a problem, clearly became a problem on the first tee. The management were completely intransigent in letting my friend just follow us round in the buggy without having paid a green fee. They were not helpful considering how much we had paid and were going to pay in the clubhouse after. The round took over 5.5 hours as they clearly wanted to get as many people out on the course as possible, and we ended up playing the last two holes in almost darkness.....unacceptable, with no offer of any apology whatsoever. A very average course and definitely not worth the 45-50 minute drive from Vilamoura when there are tens of lovely courses much closer by. A very very poor suggestion from your golf travel!

✓14 Oct 2018
Very nice course . Good fairways and the Greens putted well and received a ball from any distance . Bunkers are well presented and well sanded . I’ll always complain about the price of the Buggies ‼️ £40 per round is too expensive ‼️ The course hosted the European Challenge Portuguese Open in September 18 , tells you the quality of this course 👍👍

Extremely disappointing . Despite early(9.44) tee-time ,no buggies or battery trollies available.Half of my group of 8 (all over 60 yrs) had to forego golf in searing heat and managed to acquire 2 buggies for only 9 holes after 3 hour wait !! Staff indifferent to plight of disappointed customers who should have been prenotified of buggy situation . Numerous other YGT clients faced the same predicament and frustration as ourselves. To add to our misery,we were informed that there were no buggies available for our booking at the adjoining Alamos course on the following day or Salgados on the day after that !!

It really depends on the wind. We played with very high winds that made it very difficult. The course was very open good for long hitters. Apparently the last two occasions in Portugal masters the winner finished on21 under this year the winner finished 6 under. Good test of course, but wind plays a major factor
