Tucked into one of the Costa del Sol's most scenic corners, Chaparral Golf Club is a brilliant change of pace from the usual resort fare. The big talking point is the layout: six par-3s, six par-4s and six par-5s, which keeps the scorecard interesting and asks you to think your way round rather than just opening the shoulders on every other hole. I'm a sucker for a card that makes you think, and the six-six-six split does exactly that.
It's also an easy one to build into a trip. Chaparral sits close to Fuengirola and is under 30 minutes from both Malaga airport and Marbella, making it a handy pick whether you're staying on the coast or heading inland for a few rounds. If you're planning a wider Spain break, it fits neatly as a one-day standout.
On the course, accuracy and smart positioning are rewarded. The par-3s vary nicely in length, the par-4s encourage you to shape shots into good angles and the par-5s offer a chance to be positive if you're finding fairways. Add in the rolling terrain and the Mediterranean backdrop and you've got a round that feels a little different to the norm on the Costa del Sol.

Signature Hole: Hole 8, Par 4, 320 metres (350 yards), SI 4
The 8th is a very tactical hole and requires a confident game management straight from the elevated tee, where the hole doglegs fiercely to the right. Although it is possible to cut this dogleg, the benefits are minimal, and this tactic may even cause a hindrance to the approach shot, with a large tree in the middle of the landing area waiting to block your view. While it is possible for the big hitter to clear this tree and land short of the green, they should be aware of the trees lining the right hand side of the fairway, and the dry water bed outside them. Arguably, the more sensible option would be to play an iron off the tee and leave for a fairly short approach shot to the green to make par.

Overall, course was in really poor condition. The greens were in terrible condition and every time a ball landed on the green it would basically plug. The course in general was unreal, views were quality and was nice but the greens really let this course down
