The recently redesigned Ocean Course which was the first course to be built on the Hilton Head is now called the Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III is a truly stunning course which has incorporated and recreated some of the island’s most beautiful flora. During its redesign the stunning sand dunes were reconstructed and over 10,000 indigenous plants were planted to boost the ecosystem.

Course designer Davis Love III has won 21 PGA Tour events, 5 of those coming on the neighbouring Harbour Town Links Course and his strong love affair with the island has definitely permeated through in his redesign of the formerly named Ocean Course. The course as a whole is designed to favour the modern way of golf, with many holes suiting those distance off the tee. However, take on some of the holes at your peril as many of the greens are guarded by bunkers, water or a combination of the two meaning missing your target can be ruinous.

Atlantic Dunes GC – Sea Pines Resort

The course’s signature hole is the beautiful par 3, 15th. One of the few holes on the course without the immediate threat of water, the long and narrow green is guarded either side by long bunkers which make an accurate tee shot imperative if you want to make a birdie. The whole measures in 205 yards from the blacks and has a short fairway area in front of the green for those who miss hit their tee shot but still manage to keep it on line. The course is a traditional championship layout with two par 3s and par 5s per nine there is still plenty of chances to make birdie if you play sensibly.

Whilst a golf holiday to Hilton Head is something you’d normally associate with championship golf, courtesy of it’s tournament pedigree at nearby Harbour Town, you can enjoy the stunning layout at Atlantic Dunes from a variety of teeing positions ensuring that your round is as taxing or relaxing as you like.

As one of the most picturesque places to play golf in South Carolina, a trip to Hilton Head playing some of the stunning golf courses is sure to be a memorable holiday, complete with amazing vistas, great hospitality and a host of fantastic off-course amenities.
