Gleneagles is the sort of place you book when you want the hotel to feel as memorable as the golf. This is a Scottish icon that's hosted a Ryder Cup, earned countless awards and houses Andrew Fairlie, which has held two Michelin stars for years (a rare distinction in Scotland). Three championship courses bear the signatures of five-time Open winner James Braid and all-time great Jack Nicklaus, each playing across springy moorland turf with the green Perthshire hills rising to the south and the peaks of the Trossachs and Ben Vorlich framing the western horizon.
The hotel itself attracts as many visitors as the golf. Set among 850 acres of pure Scottish countryside an hour north of Edinburgh, the opulent French chateau-style building and Capability Brown-inspired gardens offer a first glimpse of the comfort inside, where the resort retains an exceptionally high staff-to-guest ratio so service feels effortless. Beyond golf, the estate offers horse riding, shooting, fly-fishing, falconry, off-road driving and a wealth of country pursuits that make this a complete luxury escape.
Gleneagles was named European Golf Resort of the Year for 2019 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators and continues to rank as one of our customers' highest-rated UK golf resorts.
Who is this for?
Golfers who want a proper five-star Scottish break where you can play championship courses, eat seriously well and still have plenty to do off the course. Great for couples, small groups and societies.
Who is it best for?
Anyone wanting a Ryder Cup tick-off at the PGA Centenary, plus two classic Braid courses for variety. If your group has mixed handicaps, you'll like having three very different tests on the same estate. Perfect for golfers who appreciate history, luxury and variety both on and off the course.

The King's Golf Course has been a frequent stop on both the PGA Tour and Ladies European Tour since its inception in 1919. James Braid was determined to create a course which placed the emphasis on the golfer's ability to shape his shots and be creative, which explains why Lee Trevino, one of the most natural players to ever play the game, said that, "If Heaven is as good as this, I sure hope they have some tee-times left."

Readers of 'Celebrated Living', the luxury magazine for American Airlines, voted the Kings course 6th in their Platinum list of International Golf Courses
Signature hole- No. 18 (Kings Hame): Par 5, 525 yards (Blue), SI 5
Kings' signature 18th is a brilliant finish to a fantastic round and was included in the book, Classic Golf Holes. Straight from the tee, the golfer is presented with a risk-reward shot, whereby, if they can clear the ridge and catch a down-slope, the large green is easily reachable in two. However, the risk comes in the form of two bunkers either side of the ridge, meaning that a few yards could be the difference between birdie and bogey. Once at the green, the golfer is allowed no let up and an uphill front half of the green makes for a challenging finish to a compelling round.

Threading through the high ridges on the north and east side of the estate, the Queen's Golf Course has many moorland characteristics and offers beautiful woodland settings as the course meanders through the glen. With indigenous lochans and streams incorporated as water hazards, this is a beautiful and genuine heathland classic.
Signature hole- No. 12 (The Tinkers Gill): Par 4, 433 yards, SI 2
The Queens Course highlight is the 12th hole. From the tee, the best position is to aim slightly right of the fairway, so that the hole is opened up when the fairway doglegs downhill and left. There is little danger on this drive too, so it is better to be longer in order to make for a shorter approach to a green. When attempting at the well protected green, it is better to aim past the pin in order to leave an uphill putt.

Jack Nicklaus' monster PGA Centenary Golf Course joined the list of Ryder Cup courses when it hosted the 2014 matches, and while most agree that the Golden Bear has created a modern classic, Jack himself gave the credit to the canvas he was supplied with, saying that it was "the finest parcel of land in the world I have ever been given to work with."

Perhaps the best performance at Gleneagles was by Adam Scott in the 2002 Diageo Scottish PGA Championships. The Australian shot a remarkable round of 23 under, beating the rest of the field by 10 shots!
Signature Hole- No. 5 (Crookit Cratur): Par 4, 461 yards (Blue),SI 1
The gem of the PGA Centenary is the 5th, and at stroke index 1 it will certainly test every golfer. The hole requires much in the way of accuracy and throughout the long par 4, you have to make your way down a narrow fairway. The approach is dangerous too and any mis-hit shots will be swallowed up by the lake short of the hole. A nerve-racking hole with the potential to be a real scorecard wrecker!

The Gleneagles Hotel is part of a Five Red Star Resort that recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. The grandiose building was designed to emulate a French chateau, while the manicured gardens draw inspiration from celebrated 18th-century horticulturalist Capability Brown. Despite the luxury and impeccable furnishings, the management maintains a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, avoiding the stiff formality often found at other five-star properties.
Set amidst mature Perthshire countryside with views across 850 acres of Scotland's most beautiful scenery, the hotel ensures personalised service throughout your stay. Rooms and suites blend classic elegance with modern comfort, offering spacious layouts, quality linens and views over the estate or surrounding hills. Many rooms feature period details and traditional Scottish touches, while suites provide separate living areas and enhanced amenities for those seeking extra space and privacy.
Dining at Gleneagles is a highlight in itself. Chef Andrew Fairlie's restaurant serves refined modern French cuisine in an intimate setting. The Strathearn Restaurant offers fine dining built around the finest Scottish ingredients, while Deseo brings contemporary Mediterranean flavours to the table. For more relaxed meals, the Birnam Brasserie serves classic dishes in a bright, informal space.
The hotel's elegant bar stocks over 100 single malt whiskies, perfect for a post-round dram, while The American Bar is a cracking shout for a post-round cocktail if you've still got the energy.
The estate offers a wealth of outdoor pursuits including horse riding, shooting, fly-fishing, falconry, mountain biking, tennis, squash and off-road driving. Indoors at 'The Club', you'll find state-of-the-art fitness equipment, swimming pools, a spa, Turkish baths, a sauna and first-class health and beauty treatments. The combination of wellness facilities and award-winning dining makes Gleneagles a complete luxury destination, not just a golf resort.
Gleneagles is located in Auchterarder, Perth and Kinross, within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. Both are less than 60 minutes by car, making the resort accessible for a quick weekend break or longer luxury getaway.

Rarely have we stayed somewhere with such a wonderful welcome and such super hospitality throughout. Nothing was too much trouble, the children were so well catered for. The activities we took part in were brilliant, so well run. The restaurants and spa were also fabulous, we would love to return soon!

I felt this year wasn't as good as 2 years ago when we went. Prices have increased dramatically, the breakfast isn't now a USP of Glen Eagles it was average, The bedroom was good though the ventilation supplied too much cold fresh air into the room which we felt at night. The courses were excellent as usual and staff were kind and helpful as also, couldn't get a seat in the club house after playing golf too. Hope this helps. Steve Farrell

Bizarre front nine experience when we were nearly hit by golf balls on five separate occasions from adjacent holes. As anticipated a difficult course befitting a Ryder Cup venue. Lacked the charm of the other Gleneagles courses, but a good test of golf with many interesting and challenging holes. One disadvantage was some substantial walks between greens and tees.

Yet another top quality course. Toughest course out of the 3 courses at Gleneagles but still very enjoyable. (Very strong winds on the day)
