La Cala’s Campo America Course contains some truly spectacular holes. These include the par 5s at 6, 9 and 18, and the quite remarkable par 3 at 16. The hilly topography on which the course sits means the course presents a stern test, with plenty of forced carries over steep brush-covered side slopes. Nearly three quarters of the greens are raised above the level of the fairways too, adding yet another challenge for golfers.
In addition, the greens present small targets for which to aim at and are well protected by strategic bunkering, demanding accurate and well-judged shots on the approach. However, the Campo America course is made a slightly easier driving course than Campo Asia with its wide, linked fairways and relatively small number of bunkers allowing a more generous margin for error.
As a championship course located at the foot of the Mijas Mountains, Campo America’s international status is also enhanced by spectacular views to the Sierra de Ojén and Mediterranean Sea.
Signature Hole – No. 16: Par 3, 135 yards (White Tees)
Despite being stroke index 17, the spectacular scenery at the short, 135 yard par 3 makes for a memorable hole. The elevated tee overlooks the whole property and the panoramic view extends over the pond in front of the green, past the putting surface and all the way to the coast which is several miles away.

Despite being the oldest of the three La Cala courses, Campo Asia is still well respected by golfers, and for many it is seen as the toughest test at the resort. Its layout is even hillier, the fairways tighter and the bushes more impenetrable than the neighbouring Campo America course, which already offers a sizeable challenge. In this respect, the course certainly puts a premium on accuracy and control.
While providing a tougher test off the tees, the course maintains similar elevation changes to that on the hilly America course, with strategic greenside bunkers in place at many of the raised putting surfaces.
The four par 5s, with the exception of the 1st, are all reachable in two for longer hitters, but golfers should beware of the concealed contours on the greens and the water that lurks on a couple of the holes. Sometimes less can be more when it comes to the second shots here!
The four short holes on the course are between 160 and 185 yards long, with three of them played from elevated tees to greens of terrific variety. This exciting course will guarantee a testing round for golfers of all abilities.
Signature Hole – No. 11: Par 3, 170 yards (White Tees)
Campo Asia offers many fantastic holes and after a straight-jacketing front nine, the back nine provides no let up. The par 3 at 11 is one of the most spectacular holes on the resort. The hole provides golfers with unforgettable panoramic views of the whole resort, Mijas village and Mediterranean.

The Campo Europa course provides an easier game for the average golfer, with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than Campo America and Asia. However, the presence of excellent bunkering throughout and the appearance of the idyllic Ojen River on eight of the holes ensure that your course management cannot afford to be too relaxed.
Signature Hole – No. 14: Par 3, 254 yards (White Tees)
14 of the 18 holes are visible from the tees, as golfers can also enjoy the fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and resort. At one point players must cross the river over an impressive 45m bridge and there are four other smaller bridges along its banks around the course as well. Campo Europa’s course is a fine addition to the resort, and is by no means a poor third, but rather a more manageable proposition for higher handicappers and perhaps beginners looking for a more relaxed test of golf.
At the maximum limit of distance for a par 3, the 14th not only presents a lengthy tee shot, but a perilous one too. A long carry is needed over river and scrub, leaving little margin for error.

La Cala’s practice facilities include a six hole Par 3 course which is a great place for those who wish to practice the short game, or for beginners who may not yet feel prepared for the championship courses. Overall we as a party of eight was very pleased but, always a but, so we did find the breakfast variety good, however the hot food was never hot but Luke warm, saving grace was the chef cooking fresh omelettes for you. And a warning to other golfers to keep your golf travel bag zipped up if leaving it out on the veranda, as I did not and on leaving to pack my golf bag away into the travel bag, a sizeable rat popped out and had a nightmare trying to get it out of the room, eventually did via the front door, not the best experience but can you blame the hotel for that !.

The hotel is away from the town centre which didn't suit everyone in our group but was a 10 to 15 euro taxi away. The staff are some of the best we have met friendly kind and very efficient from breakfast service through reception and all at the golf centre. The three courses were as challenging as expected and amongst 16 of mixed ability golfers over three rounds we lost 168 balls with notable differences between courses! the courses are all well maintained and we had no trouble with directions buggies etc only our own deficiencies! There was no bottled water in our rooms which was our only gripe as buying it from the machine was tiresome each day even a just 3e. the staff do fill up any water bottles you may have so take a drinking bottle !

The hotel was a bit tied and although some rooms had been updated they still were in need of a freshening up. Booked a superior double bed room but got a twins with beds pushed together. Refreshements in room very mean one bottle of complimentary water for our whole stay 4 nights. No drinks in mini bar had to subscrbe to a drinks package and get drinks you dont want in order to get the drink you do. Food was good in the restaurant although menu was limited and if staying longer than 4 days would get a boring. Confusion on check out as they proceeded to charge for the evening meal when already paid for in our booking. The saving grace is the staff, friendly and professional.

First time travelling abroad for golf - 2 couples - we were absolutely bowled over by the resort, the courses and facilities. Quick check in - lovely room. The club house has loads of outdoor and indoor seating with very attentive staff and lovely hood snd drinks not over priced . As we were staying one week we had 3 spa sessions thrown in which was amazing . We used them after golf watching people come up the Asia 18th from the outdoor jacuzzi ! A taxi into La Cala was about £13 and there is a lovely restaurant El Jinete about a mile away . Breakfast was great with loads of choice . 3 different restaurants/ bars to eat from in the evening. Decked out for Xmas , roaring fire all absolutely fantastic. We all loved the whole experience and can’t fault a thing . There’s a free shuttle bus to a driving range, theres a club shop , club hire, a putting green and free buggies . To be on a resort and be able to play 3 different courses straight outside your door has spoiled us I think - we will definitely be back .

We had a wonderful holiday and the hotel is in a fabulous location. My only negative would be that the rooms appear to be different in size and it is pot luck as to which one you get. The hotel is in a fantastic location and the rooms and breakfast were excellent. The pool is lovely and clean. We only ate in the hotel on one evening and were slightly disappointed with the slow service. Also, the reception bar gets very hot in an evening because there is no air conditioning.

As it’s a resort you don’t expect to be near anything else but that does make it feel a bit restricted especially in the evenings, that said the hotel was clean and the staff were beyond helpful, the rooms were cleaned every day and the and the beds were changed and they tidied up our clothes which was really helpful as I was sharing with a teenager.

Fabulous place. Great condition with superb views of the mountains around it. The staff are exceptionally pleasant and professional and do there job well. Cannot fault it. The hotel is really nice, it has a Spanish vintage style and is welcoming, relaxed and friendly. The staff were all helpful and engaging. We mainly ate at the Clubhouse and nearby restaurant but the Tapas restaurant at the Clubhouse is very good, again with very helpful hard working staff. The main bar in the hotel was a great meeting place and the bar man was super fast and friendly.

The room was good and the Housekeepers did a good job. We had a lovely verandah overlooking the 18th hole of Asia course. So we were lucky in that sense. However the really big disappointment and it is a basic one, was that the food was sub standard. The quality was poor, very little in the way of fresh vegetables so most dishes were bland and stodgy. We were very surprised at this. Even the mushrooms at breakfast were just simply out of a tin. The Spa was nice and we used it frequently so this is definitely a plus. Two good tennis courts which we did not use but in good condition. Some games such as pool and darts and table tennis which were used by us as we were a father and son pair. However again small details let the resort down. Table tennis board above the squash court so when the ball is hit off the table, it often goes down into the aerobics or squash court area! Two minute break to go downstairs to retrieve the ball. The darts board and pool table in reception have no illumination? In summary the resort is in a nice location with great views to the mountains. The golf, which was the main aim of the stay, was not as advertised. Some of the holes on Americas and Asia are like crazy golf" - so steep with elevated greens that average golfers take far too long to play a hole. Due to this and the sub standard food, we would never book a holiday at La Cala again.

The hotel is very good with comfortable rooms and balconies with great views. The SPA is excellent and the food and drinks were reasonable. All the staff were brilliant apart from the ones at the pro shop who issue you with T times and buggies. Every day there was an argument with these guys, basically we had paid for 3 and they only wished to give us 2 and kept asking for payment for the 3rd one even after I produced the paperwork! That was very disappointing and led to us being late for our times.

Your Golf Travel’s organisation for our recent holiday to La Cala was excellent and from pick up at the airport to drop off back there at the end of the trip, we did not encounter one single problem.
For our group of 12 golfers La Cala was superb, with three really great courses (which suited all levels of our group) all on site so no transfers were needed to and from the courses, making it very convenient indeed. The hotel and accommodation was top value with extremely helpful and friendly staff, and it was nice to relax around the pool after each round.
The Hotel prices were reasonable, but it was only a €15 cab ride into town each night and it was nice to sample some of the very good local restaurants.
All in all it was a great experience, and from the feedback of all of our group, I’ve no doubts you will be hearing from us soon to book another golf holiday for next year.

Lovely 30 minute drive from airport into the hills. On arrival the hotel looks and feels classy. If you can choose try to get a top floor room to enjoy the wonderful mountain views. We had a lower floor room but still enjoyed the tranquillity of the 18th fairway and wedding venue view. Breakfast was very nice with multi choice European food. The golf whilst sometimes intimidating, was very scenic and had great quality. Some holes seemed out of Jurassic park but were totally enjoyable. We ate a few evening meals at the hotel and they were fine. However, we discovered a local family owned a eatery about a mile down the road to the left and it was fantastic. Would I go back to la Cala? Yes.

I thought both the Asia and Europa course's were excellent. Both courses are challenging, particularly if its your first time playing. Take plenty of balls! Peter
✓14 Dec 2015
The three courses are all brilliant, a real test especially for high handicappers like me. The main tip for a newcomer would be, keep it on the fairway, even at the expense of distance, because the rough is, well, er....rough! The greens are well maintained for a course in constent use, and very fast. I can't imagine any golfer not enjoying these courses. The hotel is well managed, the only slight niggle is the main restaurant which is beautifully set in a courtyard but very expensive, and the food is not exceptional. There are no restaurants nearby that do not require a taxi ride to reach them.

The three courses at La Cala all have their own special characteristics, with spectacular scenery from almost every hole being the one common factor. The Asia Course is a fairly tight, unforgiving 18 holes and needing a fair supply of balls for the average player to complete, I stopped keeping score at Asia after the first 9.
America is a very pleasant, friendlier 18 and the Europe Course has some really good testing holes. This one let me note my best score ever, 60 net.
Many holes at La Cala have considerable height variations. La Cala gives players at all levels a good test of their abilities. The course when we were there was well maintained with both fairways and greens good.
We really enjoyed the golfing experience, being picky the only negative point being the bunkers filled with grit instead of sand.
The hotel had very friendly and helpful staff, rooms were pretty average but acceptable. There is a very good selection of wellness facilities, mostly included in the room price; a really nice place to hang out and relax after a round of golf!
Breakfast was the culinary highlight of the day and was very, very good indeed. However, disappointingly this wasn't the same in the restaurant at lunch or dinner – a very limited menu, slightly expensive and in our experience poor quality. We quickly decided that lunch and dinner outside of the hotel would be preferable.
There are many tourist restaurants in the local town at the coast just a 10 minute drive away but just two minutes from the hotel there's a very good restaurant which we often frequented.
Car hire is so very cheap in Spain, and we’d highly recommend this to have the freedom of your own.
La Cala is an experience we are intending to repeat in the
near future.

On behalf of our group I would like to thank YGT for organising an amazing golfing holiday for us. The La Cala resort was spectacular. We were fortunate enough to play all 3 courses which were all in fantastic condition. The layout of the holes were amazing and having a variety of tees for different abilities ensured all our party from low to high handicappers enjoyed the experience. We cannot decide which of the courses we enjoyed the most as they were all so varied with spectacular views. The thing we were most impressed with was the friendliness of the staff. On previous trips we have felt under pressure from rangers pushing us and hurrying us even if we couldn't go any quicker due to the groups in front!! However in La Cala we had a lovely reception on the first tee and the rangers came round to ask us if we were enjoying our round and if there was anything they could do for us- so refreshing.
On completion of our round we ate at the club house where they was a lovely and reasonably priced menu. We then retired to the spa which was fantastic. With a complementary 90 mins a day in the large outdoor and indoor bubble pools we felt so relaxed.
We ate in the hotel for 2 evenings and down in La Cala town for 2 nights, a taxi is just 13 euros into the town.
The rooms were adequate but had lovely large balconies where sat out at night which was a nice bonus.
The transfers from the airport organised by YGT were great. They were there waiting for us and helped with the luggage. The drivers were really friendly and gave us lots of information about the area.
Overall this has been our favourite golf resort and we have been going as a group for the last 7 years. We would definitely return and would highly recommend for any group wanting great golf and good service.
We would also be more than happy to recommend YGT. I certainly won't be using anyone else to organise my holidays. As the group organiser it was hassle free and so easy. Thank you.

We have played the three courses at La Cala - one each for the last three years. They are all different. Campo America provides generous fairways but once in trouble you had difficulty in scrambling, which is fair enough. The course was in good condition and the greens were rapid!! This round was far too long - almost 6 hours. In the second half off round it rain quite heavily and the cart paths became very dangerous and slippy. Us and golfers in other groups had many problems but there was no sign of a course Marshall anywhere. A pity as this course was quite nice with a bit of wow factor.

Not a great track, too many blind tee shots on the front 9. No GPS in the buggy which is what you need on that course. Poor in my opinion

Lots of renovations occurring at the club. 3 courses so clubhouse and tce packed with golfers. 1st hole .. do not play from whites. Built on mountain side. Otherwise very good interesting course.

✓21 Oct 2025
This was far better for us high hc 25/28 and did enjoy the golf, over all it was good but next trip will have to be flatter courses, also very tiring on up and down walks to play your ball where buggies are not allowed, that covers all three that we played.
ken
✓21 Oct 2025
I would describe this as I have playing the Europa course, our other 6 players of the group did find it manageable, but again food from the buggy non existent.
ken
✓21 Oct 2025
As two of us were high hc, 25/28 we did find it hard and lost a few balls, not happy with the food/drink buggy being very limited with no sandwiches etc, just chocolate and drinks, if you run out why not replace !.

La Cala never fails to impress, just to many on course or should have a marshal come around to pick up on the slow groups, our Tee Time was 11:00 and we finished at 4:15 pm, not quickest but we still enjoyed it.

This is very similar to the Europa course, probably one of the most scenic course I have ever played, hard doesn't describe how tough this course is. So many of the holes you need to carry 200 yards, so many blind shots. Don't even think about walking, you'll do 10,000 steps even in a buggy. Go slightly offline and you'll need your hiking boots as the buggies are not safe on the undulating hills. Don't let any of this put you off it's simply a stunning course. How someone had the vision to get a course in these hills is beyond me, if it was a golf course it would be full of mountain goats.

Very disappointed. Very slow Round in the hottest part of the day. No water or ice on the buggies and no refreshment carts on the course. Nearly 5 hours in 35+ degrees with no hospitality cart is very poor. The buggies has no distance guidance on the buggies either. Will not be rushing back.

Our last course of 5. This is a golf complex and the Europa course is one of three. If I come back I would play the America and Asia as all look as good as the one we played. Get a buggy. its a must. It must have been 7 minutes by buggy from the starter to the first tee. by buggy!!! Course in excellent condition and some really stunning holes. Again a course that was very friendly and made very welcome. Downside was this is the most expensive golf shop ever. Restaurant was lovely :). would certainly come back and loved our day at La Cala.

This is the best of the three and much more of a fair test of golf. Greens were much better and it was a nice touch to have satellite navigation in the carts when for the Europa and Asia we didn't get that.

Not as hard as Asia but pretty unforgiving and sometimes punishing. It was well presented other than the greens which were fairly poor.
Nick
✓6 May 2025
This is a very tight golf course that you have to plot your way around. It is very pretty but not easy. Our group (hcp's from 5 to 18) found it tough - particularly with the sloping fairways which often meant good shots were punished and bad shots got lucky. Greens were not great. Very slow and bobbly. And the bunker sand is terrible. But the presentation of the course otherwise is great.

Enjoyable. America’s is more playable the the Europa (which we played on a previous trip). The course had been closed several weeks ago for course maintenance on it was obvious. The greens had been top dressed and had maintenance on. They were rock solid and it was difficult to get a ball to stop on the green. The La Cala resort though is a beautiful setting and the majority of holes, you take a breather and thoroughly enjoy your surroundings.

If we're being harsh it's the worst out of the La Cala 3, but the other 2 set the bar so high, one of them has to come last. Plenty of excellent holes and tricky tee shots - the 18th is a cracking hole to finish on as well.

Of the 3 courses at La Cala we enjoyed this the least, 3 or 4 holes were flattish but the rest were either very up or very down. Lastly but important we cannot fault YGT's organisation. All taxis arrived on time. All courses booked. Thank you.

As with all the courses at La Cala they are very hilly and there are lots of blind shots with raised greens. Buggies essential. They are all very busy and one has to accept that rounds take 5 hours. All are in very good nick

Everyone in our group loved this set up , from initial arrival on booking in and starting on time was excellent, course was on great condition, only minor issue was we were hit by a rain storm for around 30 mins so if you could ensure that never happens again that would be great 👍

Probably not as many great views as the other two courses but still a good test. The greens had been treated so didn't receive the ball well but they have to be done at some point so we were just unlucky. Also they are putting up new fencing on the 18th so it was a temporary par 3 while the work is carried out which was a shame because its a great finishing hole.

After being spoilt by the America course at la Cala I found this wasn’t in the same condition. The greens had just been spiked with though so probably not fair to judge entirely. Still a great course though and miles better than what we are used to in the uk. Some holes a bit too hard in very windy conditions off the whites. But all this said I would defo play it again.
Jason

Slowest round ever played in my life. At times you have 3-4 groups on a single hole. Nearly missed transfer it took that long. No refreshment cart for a nearly 6 hour round. Greens were awful. Fairways not bad. Buggies again no yardages unlike America. Felt like America course was the only course La Cala really cared about.
Paul
✓14 May 2024
Fairways weren’t bad but the greens were pretty bad on this course. Lots and sand and patchy. Buggies didn’t have yardages like America. Refreshments only came around once. Pace of play wasn’t to bad on this one.
Paul

Nice clubhouse and a shuttle bus to driving range. Course was interesting and fun, but in very poor condition. Weeds growing on fairways and greens were awful, very little grass and covered in a sort of gritty sand. Would be an interesting course if it was in better condition. Worst condition course I’ve played in Spain.

My favorite at LaCala. Great first tee shot, especially with the all of the group watching. America is the longer more forgiving of the three courses with some risk and reward tee shots
Kevin
✓8 Apr 2024
Personally my least favorite of the the 3 LaCala courses (others in the group disagreed!) but a mixture of some very good holes with a few “nothing” par threes. Don’t get me wrong the sun shining and in a buggy still a lot of fun

Callum

Daniel
✓4 Apr 2024
Memorable start with a cliff-side tee shot to a fairway 100 feet below. First day without "cart pathetic only" rule after the rain which enhanced our experience even further. Another beautiful course with a lot of slope, some signature holes and fantastic views.
Daniel
✓4 Apr 2024
Played on our second day, so it had dried up perfectly from the recent rain. Another beautiful course, less slope than Europa but still had some beautiful holes and views. Course was in fantastic condition and greens were true and fast.
Daniel
✓4 Apr 2024
My favourite of the 3 courses. Beautiful scenery, some really unique and interesting holes. The rain in the week preceding our visit left it a little soft and wet in places, but probably needed by the course. Fairways, greens were in fantastic shape, a few of the bunkers were showing the effect of the heavy rain, but not a big issue.

Fantastic course wonderful facilities, but again slow play from the start,we were put out behind a 4 ball consisting of 2 ladies and 2 older gentlemen who were in turn put out behind the club pro and 5 students playing some kind of texas scramble so they had 5 players on the green putting out again last groups didnt get a drink ,i tried to explain this to the driver but he didnt want to listen and was very rude
Peter

Very nice all round though the lack of range on location was inconvenient. Arguably not the fault of the course but the wider resort development was slightly distracting.
Patricia

A good layout and the greens were a little better than the other two courses. Perhaps for us the most enjoyable experience of the three courses.
Patricia
✓20 Mar 2024
We did not like the design and felt the greens were so elevated in some cases it was impossible to hit a ball accurately to them. The quality of the green surfaces was not good.
Patricia
✓20 Mar 2024
For what was believed to be the premier course of the three we were disappointed in its quality. The greens were not good. On the other hand the greens on the short par 3 course were excellent. If only that was the case around all three courses on the complex.

Paul

Paul
✓7 Jan 2024
Some very severe slopes which catch drives and second shots and cause lost balls
Paul
✓7 Jan 2024
5 and half hour round on December 31st, all were four balls which is fine but Ssia course has a lot of blind shots and several where hilly fairways give lot of extra run so people tend to wait a long time before hitting.
Mandy
✓10 Dec 2023
Starts with narrow fairways and lines for the first few holes but then it settles down. My favourite course as some different holes with the river running through it - one hole has a shot across - great fun. I’m a higher handicap player (26) but played all courses pretty well so thoroughly enjoyed all of it
Mandy
✓10 Dec 2023
Hardest of the 3 as narrower fairways leave you with precise shots needed as wayward ones can punish you with out of bounds and hazards. Daunting 1st tee up hill but fab scenery all over the course . Some parts getting a little wet but no issues considering it’s December . Bunkers all the same sand and condition . Immaculate everywhere.
Mandy
✓10 Dec 2023
Unforgettable 1st elevated tee. Wider fairways than the other courses. Great condition as it is December . We are Mid / higher handicap players but we all managed ok as some nice par 3s and a great downhill par 5 18th .

David
✓23 Oct 2023
My party of eight have handicaps from scratch to 25 and non of us would play it again. Its a very annoying course as most shots are blind over hills or dog legs and not on flat stance. One of group said he had never played so many shots at waist hight as the ground was so undulating. The greens were great however, but the 18th is more suited to being at in the Swiss Alps.
David
✓23 Oct 2023
The Asia course has a few blind drives so I was able to inform my players the lines to take as i played this course in the summer. The greens were good
David
✓23 Oct 2023

The course appears set up to tempt the big hitters, usual risk and reward! Greens were reasonably fast, but looked as if they were recovering from disease, so aesthetically, looked poor. They were also a lot smaller, so needed accurate shots in. It’s a more challenging course than it looks, but well worth playing.

✓26 Sep 2023
Usual elevation changes and carry over ravines, blind shots etc. It’s a tight course which requires a more tactical approach. Plot your way around rather than automatically going for the driver. Par 3’s off reds were too short for the wife, so need to consider using blue tees where appropriate. Obviously done to reduce carry distance. Its a challenging course, but well worth playing.

Nice challenging course. Lots of elevation changes from tee to greens, so you had to think about club selection. A number of holes you need to carry over ravines etc. Plenty of opportunities to lose your ball, but thoughtfully, local entrepreneurs sell pre loved balls at side of course. We thought the greens needed cutting, they were very slow.

Overall a positive experience, there are long travel distances between some greens to the next tee but they are well signed and not a problem with a buggy. The course was in good condition and greens were satisfactory. The course was well manicured with some picturesque holes. The facilities are excellent, drink and food was reasonably priced. The resort was really busy and we were told there were over 500 playing the three courses on the day of our visit.

Tee'd off at 10:20 as a 4 ball. Went off the yellows but to be honest the course was far too short but I did notice some new tee's being relaid. Were joined by a German couple who could play which hasn't been the case in previous occasions. Took 4 hours and were never held up or rushed. Overall a decent experience

Tee off at 11am as a 2 ball on 31st Aug. Took 5 hours behind 4 x 4 balls (mix of men & women) Worst experience I've had on a golf course. Some holes had 3 groups waiting. Completely ruined the round for me after about 5 holes.

My favourite of the three courses at La Cala. Beautiful to look at and all the holes are interesting in their own way. It would have got 5 stars accross the board if the drinks wagon had made an appearance before the 16th hole. Also, one or two of the earlier holes need a bell system. We had to apologise twice for almost hitting the group in front on blind tee shots.

Not as nice as the other two courses on site. The drinks cart never appeared once, which was disappointing. The overall course conditions were excellent though and the views were stunning.

Greens not as good as the other two courses, a lot of sand on the surface in places. Great views. The stroke index 1 is crazy. If you can’t drive 200yds you lose your ball. There is netting to catch the balls but it is all broken. We lost eight balls between us on this hole.

With a 13 handicap, I found this course difficult. A lot of blind holes, some over hills and some dog-legs. It would be advantageous to play this course with someone who had played it before, or have played it before yourself. The greens weren't in the best of condition and would say they were the worst of the 3 courses at La Cala.

Wow ! To hard for me but what a course , plays short but undulating and hazards make it hard as well as greens, clubhouse is amazing and had an Octoberfest event on when we were there only thing that let this down was slow play and lack of buggies due to starters trying to manage three courses all at once .

nice coarse not overly long no need for driver on some holes 8th par 5 dont hit driver fairway runs out at 260 yards and 15th tee net to far to the right on the tee box pints you to an hill that should be shaved of all rubbish to kick you wall into play

Of the four courses we played this was the most disappointing due to the condition which was shabby at best. It was a shame as the location, views and design interest were plus points. My only comment is playability if you have a mixed handicap group as we do ranging from 6 to 23 hcp - so many blind tee shots was an issue for many.
David
✓26 Jun 2022
This is definitely the hardest of the 3 courses at La Cala for me. You definitely have to be careful with some of your tee shots. The course guide helps with this one with some great tips of the tee. A couple of great par 3s with fantastic views greet you. When we first arrived we thought we were going to loose many balls, but pleasantly surprised at how few we lost.

✓26 Jun 2022
Some lovely holes on the America Course. Views are amazing. The 1st is a cracking hole to start your round with a tee shot which you hit to fairway some hundred feet below you. The 18th is a par 5 downhill and if you hit the right spot as I was lucky enough to do and end up with a wedge to 8 feet and holed the putt for Eagle. Just the longest of the 3 courses.

Oh my god, I play of off 15 and usual score in the 30’s but here 23! The advise from the guys giving you the buggies was okay what you see. I found this to be the hardest of the three but that may also be due to play three days in a row which at my age is becoming more challenging. Again you would benefit from course knowledge. We all said we would return to see if we improve 😂 Unfortunately we had bad weather but that’s no one’s fault just bad luck. Well worth a visit
Terry
✓25 Apr 2022
Again course knowledge would help lower our scores, really enjoyed it, if you play the America remember one thing, if you hit a decent drive on the last hole cut the corner to the left, it’s a par 5 but you’ll be just off the green! Out of our group of twelve 7 of us took it on 6 birdies and one eagle! One drive was measured at 430yards

The course is in terrible condition, the greens are basically mud with no grass on and very firm so almost impossible to put on or get the ball to hold on the greens. The fairways were just as bad with no grass and weeds and with the severe slopes you were often punished for hitting good shots. Very disappointing.
Jason

Although I have classed this as Average, it is a little tougher than that. 10th hole in particular requires a long tee shot to avoid trouble. Unfortunately all rounds were slow as the courses were all busy.
John

My wife and I are nearly 80 and found this course hard. On approximately 4 holes it required a long carry over trouble to reach the fairway.
John

Enjoyed this course, greens very fast and undulating as were all three courses. Nice variety of holes.

Super quick greens. Don’t leave valuables in your bags or buggies. Warning to keep eyes peeled for unwelcome Spanish robbers!! Super views and well manicured.
Beverley
✓21 Nov 2021
Super quick greens and hard to read. Lost balls on fairways with severe slopes into divines but spectacular scenery.
Beverley
✓21 Nov 2021
Being on the mountain side this course proved difficult to keep the ball on the fairways and often balls would run of the fairway into divines and were lost. This was the same for the Asia and Americas too. However spectacular scenery all round. Buggy required for the unfit golfer!

Just like an inland links course, Pedham Place in Kent is similar, couldn’t fault it, greens and fairways are stunning. Again slow but busy
Stephen
✓11 Nov 2021
typical easy American course, massive wide fairways with no rough and huge greens, perfectly kept fairways and greens, so nice water holes as well. Ive said slow as 5 hours for a round is long but it was busy. This is the best of the three.
Stephen
✓11 Nov 2021
Fairways had some spots that were like playing off of concrete, 5.5 hour for a round of Golf is long, but its busy, so we got over it very quickly, sandwich cart with drinks and beers are perfect. clever design and really feels like your playing in Asia.
Phil
✓26 Oct 2021
Scruffy areas around the course perimeter. Some bare fairways and some topsoil dumped around certain areas. Greens were ok.
Phil
✓26 Oct 2021
The best course at La Cala but in poor condition. Bare fairways and lots of recently filled bunkers. Some reworking going on and redesign but not sure why as course was good before.

✓21 Oct 2021
Having played the other two courses at La Cala, I was expecting this to be the most difficult and it probably was. Course was in good condition and greens were of reasonable pace. Overall, La Cala is a good complex and my only gripe was that the bar area was extremely busy with inadequate staff to serve everyone.

Our favourite of the three courses
John

Better condition than Europa and an easier course to play with wider fairways

The course was not in great shape sadly, though the greens were good. The course was showing signs of wear and needed watering
Steven
✓13 Oct 2021
The complex was fantastic. However, the course was in shocking condition. Looks to me like an aftermath of all the lockdowns etc but they shouldn’t be allowing people on in the state they’re in. The 17th was a complete joke, it was literally rolled mud from tee to green, not impressed at all.

✓5 Oct 2021
Like the others this course was very good and not too hard nor too easy. The only downside to our entire trip was dealing with the reservations lady Maria Gonzales who we found unhelpful, inflexible, unfriendly and generally unable to make a simple decision. Everybody else we encountered were superb, only the one person who let the side down.
Aaron

Our favourite of the three, slow going but that was perhaps due to us than the course itself. Great condition, some lovely little holes, picturesque and a perfect round to 'round' off our trip.
Aaron

The most difficult of the 3 courses and very challenging. Greens had sand around them but this is a very minor criticism - use plenty of balls on this one!

Slightly shorter then other 2 but needs more thinking about - great course...we had originally booked 2 x America 2 x Europa and 1 x Asia - but added another round to do 2 on each (and got a good deal by going out early!!) Warning first time played was wet start (just first 3 holes) absolutely treacherous in a buggy as very steep - if have any health issues then do not attempt to play this course in anything other than dry conditions - was great though and a 360 in buggy always adds a bit to a morning! :)

Our group had different handicaps and good players played it well, but still enjoyable for higher handicappers. Play pace was ok for a resort course that was busy but slow compared to "home" times. Value for money in the overall package was excellent and we are now planning for next year.

✓18 Mar 2020
Busiest of the three courses we played, with a number of log jams at various holes. Needed a course marshall to hurry people along, or make them call faster groups through!
Brian
✓18 Mar 2020
Dramatic opening hole, with elevated tee - my strategy of landing on the cart path to the right of the fairway worked well! Lots of elevated greens, which were all very quick compared to the UK in March!
Brian
✓18 Mar 2020
Least busy of the three courses we played, allow 5 minutes to drive buggy to 1st tee. As with all courses, a number of elevated greens, and blind tee shots. Easy to lose balls when they go over the horizon. 18th is a bit of strange hole to finish on, driving off down a cliff face!

Didnt like this course at all (and neither did several other people we met and spoke to. Course has really steep sides that make it difficult to keep your ball on the fairway. Even if you hit a sensible tee shot, the course 'features' can put your ball out of play. It was soft after the rains, but there was only 1 ball cleaner we found during the round. Took 5 1/2 hours to complete. staff didnt seem too bothered

This was 100% our favourite course. Finally a normal design with some really lovely testing holes. The Europa course is the one that follows the course of the Rio Ojen for quite a number of holes - it is therefore flatter and a much truer test of golf. The 17th and 18th holes are again similar in incline to Asia and Americas but those are the only two. We really enjoyed the Europa course.
Alastair
✓20 Jan 2020
Not much to add from the above Americas report. This was the course where we went in early due to the slow pace of play. We started late (this only happened on one day) because the buggies had not been charged. There was a big backlog of people to go out all of who had missed their tee-off times by 10 to 20 minutes. Many buggies were only half charged - the couple we played with had their buggy run out of battery power on the 10th hole. I spoke to the Golf Course Manager after our scuppered round to inform him of the problems. Especially we stressed the fact that there were no marshalls speeding up play - we had even seen 4 balls dropping second balls just to get more practice in. The Manager said nothing to give us any confidence that this could or would be rectified. Again this course suffers from the same incline problems of the Americas course. You can hit a really good drive and the ball rolls from right to left right across the fairway and into bushes. I have never seen this on any other course! Its a design fault! Of course there are some nice holes too but overall the inclines and elevated greens result in slow play. Not having marshalls on such a busy golf resort is unforgiveable.
Alastair
✓20 Jan 2020
The Americas course is billed at the best at La Cala and is more expensive than the others. The fact that we changed our final day golf to the Europa course, tells you what we thought of the Americas course. People need to realise that the location is full of very steep hills and valleys. So building any course here was always going to be a huge challenge. The Americas course is the steepest and most hilly of all the courses. Most of the golfers were in the older age bracket of both sexes. Due to the steep terrain, many were not able to negotiate the steep incline shots and their balls would roll down these crazy hills past where they hit their shot! This just resulted in very slow play. Sadly no marshalls were visible anywhere on any of the courses so a round can take up to 5-6 hours. On one day we just gave up at the 7th hole as play was so slow. Out of the 3 courses we rated Americas as the worst based on the fact that too many holes were just ridiculously steep (most are elevated greens) and the slow pace of play.

One or two unattractive beats up steep hills to the green, but generally accommodating a bit of inaccuracy and some good opportunities to open the shoulders. Generally, La Cala is worth a visit, and the director of golf, Flavio, was very friendly and helpful and enabled us to play nine holes on our last morning before leaving to catch our flight.

David
✓23 Oct 2019
This is a very hilly course with some silly holes, very hard to play decently on the first acquaintance - and I don't think I would want to play it again. The buggies do not have GPS (as on the America) and judging distance is very difficult as few shots are on the level.

Slow . It is boasted La Cala holds the record for most players playing over 3 courses . I can only imagine how painful that must have been for at least 30 percent of the people who would have been inactive ! They must have a ridiculous debt to service to warrant the pace of play which is slow !!!!

A very good test, most of the greens on the Europa and America Course had false fronts, with pins located at the front, so getting the ball close was quite a challenge. Loved all 3 course, my preference being the America, Europa followed by the Asia. Unfortunately, the green staff were in the process of replacing the greens on the Asia course, so were quite brown, and very fast. So I now have some idea what putting on PGA Tour greens is like :D. Can't wait to go back. The only real negativity, was the staff in the bar. They were very rude. and not very accommodating, especially when we tried to request separate bills (1 per 4-ball). Also, be wary of taking plenty of water on the Europa Course. Our first day had temperatures in excess of 30C, and with no drinks buggy, meant most of us were dehydrated by the end of the round. All in all, a very pleasurable experience, and would definitely return to play the courses again.

My favourite course. Punishing in places (Hole 4 is a monster) but good scores are possible, with care. Lots of variety to keep you interested. Hole 18 is a bit of a problem because the slope is so steep that you can drive into the group in front if you're not careful. You definitely need a buggy on this course

✓20 May 2019
Great course. Had me best score of the week. Even if the others scored less I loved it. Wide open. Would love to play all 3. Big let down was reception where we booked in. I was told we couldn’t have another biggie which we didn’t have on other courses so went out in a 2 ball and a 4 ball due to tee’s being booked up. When we got to tee box starter didn’t know this and said was only a 4 ball in front so as you can imagine the 2 ball flew round and the 4 ball was slow. Big group of players behind had plenty of 3 balls going round so got even more miffed then. Also direction round course on back 9 was not very well signposted.
Graeme
✓20 May 2019
Billed as the 'easier' of the three courses at La Cala, In my opinion (as a very average golfer) this was the more challenging. Slightly less forgiving for wayward shots and one that needs careful club selection to ensure better options for the second and third shots. I can't remember any other course where I've had to take a driver to a par 3 and still come up short of the green (Hole 14. 217 Mtrs with the wind in your face). Another great course worthy of playing again.
Graeme
✓20 May 2019
Lives up to its billing of being the 'premier course' of the 3 on the complex. The first tee is an experience in itself and from there on in the course gets better and better. You can certainly get your driver out more often and a little more forgiving for 'wayward shots'. A great test all round with some fantastic holes and the scenery around this (and the other two courses) is fantastic. Definitely one to play again !
Graeme
✓20 May 2019
This was the first of the three courses we played and it didn't disappoint ! A good test for all levels of handicap and you certainly need to 'plot' your way around. Fairways in great condition (if you manage to find them) greens quick but not 'lightening'. Would love to play it again.

✓9 May 2019
Tee off time was 9 o'clock and we never really saw anyone all way round. The course was in excellent condition, the only negative we had was that the course had been fertilised and although we were told at the clubhouse the entry onto the fairways for the buggies was 90 degree as usual we weren't able to go on the fairways as the buggies had been restricted for that day.

13 H'cap, this is the best of the the three, most picturesque with lovely water features and again detail to bunkers and foliage perfect, can't praise this course enough really.

13 H'cap, was narrow compared to the USA course as expected, great detailing with bunker sand and foliage, great track.

im a 13 H'cap and found this to be an exceptional course, attention to detail was very clever with USA type fairways bunkers and greens all very reminiscent of what i see on tv week in week out, loved it.

This was the course that Our friends joined us. I beleaguered this was the best course of the 3 but that maybe I scored 38 stableford points.

Again we enjoyed both the course and the Man and women from Finland who could talk good English ( which was a good thing)

We both enjoyed the experience of the course and the two Scotish gents who apparently go every year

An excellent golf course and the best of the bunch, I would have no hesitation in recommending this to golfers of all levels. However we were all disappointed to have to argue with the staff again to get the 3 buggies we paid for! That was every day they tried to give us 2 and asked for payment for the third one! This daily debate really annoyed us and I am disappointed that it did take the shine off what was a really good complex.

Found this course a bit disappointing, it was a bit shabby compared to the America course and play was very slow probably as a result of the level of difficulty. Again buggy fiasco was encountered even after we produced all paperwork on day 1.

The course was pretty good, however the staff who provide the buggies were a nightmare! We were in a group of 5 and had paid for 3 buggies in our package, but the staff were adamant we were only getting 2! I produced the paperwork and we still had to argue to get what we had paid for! in fact we were late and stressed for our T as a result of this

Not overly impressed with layout which is not suitable for more mature / higher handicap golfers. Not in great overall condition.

Fantastic scenery. Very hilly course, so glad we had buggies. Bunkers were so different to the America Course. Instead of soft sand the bunkers were a hard gritty surface. Much better greens though. Great driving course.

Scenic course, with very soft sand in the bunkers. Greens not so good.

Not as good as the other two ,bunkers very difficult due to soft sticky sand. Greens not as good as the other courses.

Asia course was probably the best course. Rolling fairways with stunning views. In great shape and a little more water than the other courses.

Not quite up to standard of the other courses but still a great course with stunning views. One big beef was that the gravel/sand in bunkers is terrible to play from around the greens. Also needs better directional signs green to tee.

Fantastic course with views that will live long in the memory. Well maintained for the amount of use it gets. Could do with better directional signs from green to next tee.
