Nestled within 300 acres of beautiful Norfolk countryside, Barnham Broom Hotel, Golf & Spa is a luxury 4-star resort and one of East Anglia's most popular golf destinations with its 46 stylish, and contemporary bedrooms, and being conveniently located just a short 15-minute drive from the historic city of Norwich, it is the ideal base for exploring the vibrant city and the wider tranquillity of Norfolk.
The resort boasts two championship courses with 36 holes in total, including the premium Valley Course, set along the River Yare, which demands precision with its tree-lined fairways and undulating greens, earning it a tournament pedigree. Complementing this is the contrasting but equally challenging Hill Course, which, while potentially more forgiving than the Valley, requires quality striking to navigate its strategically placed, risky bunkers. The Hill is also open for both Winter and Summer golf.
The resort also features extensive practice facilities, including a fully stocked Golf Shop and a first-class golf school managed by a resident PGA professional.
Beyond the championship golf, guests can indulge in first-class leisure facilities, including The Spa, a tranquil space offering a complete range of professional treatments, and The Edge, a fully equipped fitness centre featuring a state-of-the-art gym, a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and courts for squash and tennis. A choice of dining completes the luxurious stay, with options ranging from the stylish Brasserie and Bar Lounge for afternoon teas and cocktails, to a more informal Sports Bar, both with extensive menus for any taste.
Blending championship golf with luxurious facilities and a prime location near Norwich offering easy access to wider Norfolk attractions, Barnham Broom is the perfect choice for your next golf break.

Barnham Broom is home to two superb 18-hole courses and in summer guests can take on the 36-hole golf experience, which ranks top among Norfolk's best golfing destinations.
The resort boasts the contrasting Valley Course, a picturesque and strategic par-72 layout that meanders along the River Yare, featuring water hazards and tree-lined fairways, challenging your precision. The Hill Course is slightly more open, a par-71 parkland course that provides elevated greens, panoramic views, and a different kind of challenge, often considered slightly more forgiving than the Valley Course.
There is also a dedicated short game area, a grass driving range and a five-acre open air grass range. In Summer, the courses are marshalled, and there is even a refreshment buggy on hand with drinks and snacks to make your round even more enjoyable.
The Valley is Barnham Broom’s flagship championship course recognised as the premium Norfolk golf experience, with a notable hole being the demanding 416-yard par-4 3rd, where the River Yare cuts diagonally across the fairway, forcing a critical tee shot and approach.
Opened in 1977 and masterfully designed by renowned architect Frank Pennink, the Par-72 layout measures approximately 6,483 yards from the back tees. The Valley is set along the flowing waters of the River Yare, the course is defined by its picturesque, strategic challenge. The design makes ample use of natural contours, tree-lined fairways, undulating greens, and numerous water features, demanding precision and strategic thinking over raw power.

The Hill Course is characterised by its wide, more open fairways and elevated positions, which provide sweeping views over the Norfolk countryside, the 18 hole course is also playable throughout the winter months. Its elevated nature and rolling terrain make for a true parkland or heathland experience, appealing to a wide range of players.
While often considered slightly more forgiving than its sister course, it is by no means easy, with its links-style influences, including windy conditions and strategically placed bunkers. A notable hole is the Par-5 5th, which starts from an elevated tee, providing an excellent scoring opportunity if players successfully navigate the strategic challenges placed mid-fairway.
Originally designed by Frank Pennink and later revised by renowned golf architect Donald Steel, this Par-71 course measures approximately 6,495 yards from the back tees.

The rooms were comfortable and close to the centre of the golfing complex. The only thing my room didn't have was a complimentary bottle of water. Something that's needed when it's cold outside and the windows are closed and the heating on - especially overnight.

Just back from a great 2 day golf break and I can’t praise this venue enough The staff in every department, from the pro-shop to the reception, restaurant and bar staff were superb The food at dinner and breakfast was fantastic and we were all made to feel very welcome for a long night with a good atmosphere in the sports bar This is our 34th year of organising this annual event with a bunch of old school mates, each year at a different location, and this venue is right up there with the very best Thank you Barnham Broom

The hotel is in the beautiful Norfolk countryside and has clean and comfortable rooms, an excellent sports club and bar (4 squash courts, tennis courts, gym, leisure pool, sauna, steam room) a sports bar overlooking the Valley course, as well as a nice a la carte Brasserie restaurant and conference rooms for eg a works do or society/charity days, but with its Espa Wellness Centre also caters for treatments and massages after a hard day in the gym or on the golf course for those on a weekend break. The staff are all very friendly and are a nice mix of youngsters learning their trade and the more mature experienced staff who, one felt, had been with the hotel a while.

Lovely hotel, staff were fabulous, friendly and extremely accommodating. Food in the brasserie was wonderful, one of the best meals we’ve had on a golf break. Sports bar was great with outside terrace overlooking the golf course. We upgraded to a junior suite which was clean and spacious, bed was huge and very comfortable. Breakfast was super, buffet style for c continental but made to order menu for full English etc. We didn’t use the leisure facilities but had a look and all looked very nice.

Trip was good and rooms had what we wanted. Food and drink service was absolutely awlful. We had to wait ages for drink orders during the day. Evening dinner was ok but found service a little slow but just put up with it as we were enjoying each other’s company. breakfast was a joke, it took over 40 mins for mine and others to arrive (only order in groups of 2 or 3 at a time as we staggered breakfast ) and when mine arrive I had to send it back and toast was cold a poached eggs were rock hard after asking for soft eggs . Then had to wait another 10 mins for replacement to find I still had the original cold toast. I don’t blame the staff but I do blame the management as they clearly need more staff in the kitchen. We went to BB a few years back in a large group and the food and service was fabulous that’s why we decided to re book but we won’t be going again
Geoff

The room was spacious and comfortable, staff very helpful, bar service excellent, the evening meal was a very high standard, unfortunately the breakfast was a little disappointing, how can you ruin a poached egg ??
Hugo
✓16 Aug 2021
Perfectly nice but nothing special - the biggest gripe was the price of drinks (a single gin £7.15, small tonic £3.00. pint of Moretti £6.25; £16.40 for two drinks!!!!) Be warned. The bedroom was small, dark (a single window overlooking a roof) even though we had paid for a 'superior' but the bed was comfortable and large. The smell of too-strong air freshener was unpleasant. The staff, however, were friendly and helpful, albeit under pressure. Brasserie food was okay but the same menu both nights; breakfast was pretty poor really - dry, overcooked full English which had obviously been pre-prepared. Generally, okay but, again, nothing special.

A better day two even though the wind turned into a gale. This course is ar the top of a valley andin most places fairly flat. Laid out well with many interesting holes. Some bunkers needed repairing. No halfway facilities on either courses. Needed on the hill as it's a fare distance from the clubhouse.

✓26 Apr 2025
An early tee time allowed an uninterrupted round on the trickier of the two courses. Water is in play on a number of the holes and local knowledge, or previous knowledge of this course is useful as you need to plot your way around to make a decent score. Look out for elevated tees on one or two of the par threes, and some elevated greens on longer holes. Accuracy off the tee will provide you with the best chance of making par but errant shots into the greens rarely go unpunished with water often in the back of your mind!
Mark
✓26 Apr 2025
A 10 minute walk up the hill past the driving range to the first tee, this course is ironically slightly flatter than its trickier neighbour the Valley. The hotel is a favourite with large groups, charity days and societies, so picking your course and tee time carefully is essential to avoid being held up in the midst of a competition. There are some tricky par threes amongst a good range of 4’s and 5’s which provide an enjoyable round with some good views across the surrounding countryside.
Mike

One of the two courses, we initially booked two rounds on the Hill course but decided to play the Valley course for our second round. Hill course, first 9 were interesting and undulating, it was very open and it was windy so made it a little challenging. The back 9 was less interesting just back and forth and each hole felt much the same as the one before but worth a go. The Valley course, completely different, tree lined, some elevated tees and greens, lots of water and hazards and made for a fantastic round of golf, you have to be tactical. I would highly recommend playing this course.

Average at best. need a hard hat on some holes as balls are flying everywhere. We should have been playing Cromer but due to YGT mistakes we ended up here. What a comedown. Second time YGT have let me down. Not only that - as I had paid for Cromer I was due a refund due to their inefficiencies. Took over 4 months and a claim in the small claims court to get my money back in which they lied and blamed me for changing my mind. the absolute worst customer service.

Greener, more wooded, more water than the Hill Course with some quirky course design (7th, 15th and 17th notably) but it's in good condition throughout. No ball washers or rakes (at our club they're all out again) or half-way house which would have been welcome!

A pleasant, hill-top round with some great views; nothing very challenging and several par 4s of 365-375 yards which make most golfer feel reasonably competent! Signage was clear (others apparently have reviewed this poorly before); well placed 150 markers; good, true greens, quicker than anticipated; punitive, lush rough! A rea;;y enjoyable afternoon, never rushed.

Not a bad course by any means but definitely the poorer relation to the valley course. All good except my own standard of golf. Signage to next tee could be better.

Two excellent rounds as I am getting old, had a buggy on first day (which was better), but not on the next (none available), but still played very well.

Great day out on the Valley course. Some fairways not draining that well so playing all of it's length - you do need to get it off the tee to make a score.

Nice course - well bunkered. If you are playing both courses then probably better to play this before the Valley.

Not all holes were open due to flooding, had to play the same holes again to make up 18, as near as we could. Would love to play both courses again in good weather/conditions.

Unfortunately the river flooded parts of both courses, particularly the Valley course. Had to play one course combining holes from both courses. 16 people waiting on the first tee on Sunday. Only managed to complete 12 holes.

The day we picked was when Storm Dennis hit got absolutely soaked and wind swept only managed 5 holes. The next day they opened the winter coarse ( 15 holes on Hill course and 3 on Valley course which considering the conditions was in a good condition.

Not as interesting as the Valley Course, most holes straight just a hit and walk. The players consider it easier then the Valley Course, which was reflected in the overall score.

Due to the time of year, leaves on the fareway lead to number of lost ball lack of roll of the ball. Would love to play in the summer.

An excellent course which needs some thought playing some of the holes.

Easier than the valley course and not as interesting, could get away with wayward shots. I would say maybe the greens on this course was better but would have loved to play the valley course twice instead.

Loved this course, it was interesting and had some challenging holes. I would say the greens and bunkers were not amazing but certainly no massive issue.

Nice course but not as nice as the Valley course. It was still good challenge and you wouldn’t be disappointed if you played it

Our whole group was held up by those in front of us. The course marshall removed a group for slow play and all was resolved. Other than that the course, facilities and the value was excellent. The staff were very friendly too.
