Staff couldn’t do more. It was my first stay away completely solo and the staff where extremely friendly and made me feel less awkward than I felt.

Rooms were in very good order, comfortable and well furnished. The included evening meal was from a table d'hote selection, was well presented and generally tasty. It was rather strange that there was no table drinks service. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Unfortunately we didn’t have a lot of time to enjoy the hotel but the food was good and the rooms very good. We played golf far too late on day one and it was all too much of a rush

excellent 3 nights staff were not receptive when asked to renew coffee sachets in the room. Messages from reception didnt get through.

The hotel was very good, rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Food was good quality, very good breakfast. THe evening meal was a set menu, with a choice of 4 starters, mains & puddings. My only gripe is that the prices we were charged in the resort were more than advertised on the website and, like most hotels, drinks are expensive. Also the £100 credit resort was a little tricky to allocate between 12 people - we ended up buying prizes from the pro shop with it. Overall a really good trip - the golf courses are excellent!

The rooms were clean and tidy but several of our rooms had leaking shower doors so we had to use towels to soak up the water! The bars do not sell alcohol until 11am! The food was good, staff were friendly. golf courses in very good condition (an open halfway house would have been nice and a good little earner i'd say!

Excellent hotel with great amenities. Food was really good and the service was top class. Bar prices were a bit steep but you expect that. Overall a great stay and would recommend a visit.

Everything was brilliant, apart from the rooms to sleep. Too hot with not enough opening from the windows - considering no air con.

Decent hotel, but some issues with surly staff (hotel, restaurant and golf shop) who have little idea what good customer service looks like. Some staff were fine, but there were several across the weekend who were pretty terrible - unhelpful and obstructive.

Lovely hotel the only problem with it is the bar shuts at 7 pm Monday to Thursday We was a party of 20 and like a drink the bar for hotel open but was so small couldn’t get a drink for a long time only 1 person behind bar

Large rooms with large bed, sette and desk so very spacious. Bathroom was good. Facilities and food were very good. The only small niggle is that the bar would not run a tab so it meant paying for every individual round. Otherwise, excellent and would go back again. Pro shop staff were very helpful.

Great location, good standard rooms, and other facilities. Everyone in our group of 16 enjoyed their evening meal and breakfast, with no complaints. Bar selection good, prices as to be expected. Super friendly staff everywhere. Will be going again in the next few years.

Everything is catered for

A group of 27 stayed recently and we all agreed that the hotel and facilities were top notch! The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Rooms were a generous size and very comfortable. The food was good quality also. We had a wonderful stay and would come back again.

Room was in need of repair to the windows, room only serviced after 3 days, so no fresh water, or replenishing or tea, coffee etc.

Great venue. Courses, accommodation and food were all good, and the staff very friendly. Very lucky with the weather, which made for an excellent trip.

The hotel was very nice with some lovely features due to being built around the old priory. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food on the set course menu was outstanding. The rooms are functional and do the job adequately but could do with freshening up and adopting a more modern feel. Overall, a very nice stay.

Spent 2 nights as part of golf break. Rooms are spread out over a wide area, so we had quite a long walk from our room to the bar/restaurant. room was big, two big beds, tea/coffee making stuff, decent tv. Food served from 6pm which was good. 3 course set menu was very good value - although a la carte menu available as well. Service was slow on the second night of our visit. Not enough staff, and all seemed a bit disorganised e.g. Ordered 3 Guinness at our table which never arrived but were put on the bill (charge removed after we brought to staff attention). Waitress very apologetic and seemed to be trying her best. Food itself was well presented and tasted great. Bars close at 11pm with no night porter bar service. Overall, hotel was good and was good value.

Reliance on a lot of young staff in both bar and restaurant, which is absolutely fine, but it’s important they’re supported in their interactions with customers.

Hotel,ticked all the boxes.Staff,rooms and the food were all excellent. We had a group of 14 and no one had any complaints on any issues Unfortunately the pool area was closed due to maintenance,on travels to other hotels most of the group use the pool area,but this didn't spoil the trip.All looking forward to returning to repeat.

Thought hotel was very good, rooms very good clean and comfortable. Only down side was the lay out of hotel, a lot of walking around as it is like a maze to find rooms and back to reception.

Rooms were good but getting from accommodation to restaurant was difficult, particularly for those with mobility issues. Long corridors and having to go up and down several stairs . Drinks were very expensive and the food mediocre.

For an overnight stay the rooms were very comfortable and clean. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful. The golf pro was also very helpful.

Very comfortable hotel but not up to the standard of our last trip 2 years ago. Very limited food options in the Tempo Bar ( only bacon or sausage baps) Shortages of wine stocks - and no brandy- in the Restaurant. Previously we loved the breakfast especially the chef making omelettes to order but he wasn’t there, and the smoked salmon has V been replaced by smoked ? Mackerel which didn’t look or taste fresh. Having said that the Rooms were excellent and the staff unfailingly helpful.

Sadly even though we we’re told by one of your staff 3 days before we went, that we would play on the Priory twice due to conditions, this was factually incorrect it was on the Moorland twice But then we only played on the Sunday due to both courses closed on the Monday.

Room was lovely. Golf bar very poor only sausage bap available which was poor. Evening meal very poor took 3 and half hours!

Nice location. Very tired hotel. Examples..Our loo didn't flush, restaurant a bit of a mess..white wine was served warm but in ice bucket so we waited, overcharged for wine, phoned in our room as restaurant hadn't taken my card details and had to return. Needs investment and good management.

This is a rambling complex. You not only require a buggy for the golf (essential) but also for the hotel. We were a group of 9 but could not be seated together in the restaurant, having to be spread over two separate tables. Staff were good but management was lacking. Overall experience average and well down the list for a return visit.

Room was clean and comfortable but a bit dated. The hotel had started refurbishment on all third floor rooms at time of our visit. All staff were friendly and the food was excellent.

Problems checking in with a less than friendly receptionist. Items on the starter and main course list run out. Small portions. Double room booked, twin room allocated.

bar service was slow and we were surprised the bar shut at 11 on the dot, as residents we wanted one more before bed but were refused because the bar was closed

Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Restaurant service was superb on first night but appalling on the second night. After being seated we waited 30 minutes before having to ask for our order to be taken. Another 30 minutes and we had to chase them up. Our order was mixed up, no wine which we'd ordered, and steaks were incorrectly cooked (we'd asked for medium rare and got well done) and some aspects were cold. Overall it overshadowed the good parts of our stay.

Natasha the general manager on duty on our day of arrival was exceptional in looking after our party of 7 that had a few issues on arrival She made our stay very enjoyable

The hotel was great, we had great service from Kris & Max in the evening, both did the hotel proud. The evening meal was excellent.

The accommodation was to a high standard and the set menu offering good portion sizes and plenty of choice. Bar prices were also reasonable.

The old building itself certainly has plenty of character but felt the interior was a 'little bit tired'.

Was a great course great food great accommodation staff very friendly only problem was bar was supposed to close at 11pm but they wasn't busy so called last orders at 10.15 pm.Also advised pizzas and cheese chips as snacks when tried to order said no one was trained to cook them very poor.

Lovely Classic hotel with professional staff, comfy beds and everything you would expect from a Marriott hotel. The food was very high quality on the evening meal and breakfast.

Mariott are known as a quality brand and Breadsall Priory is no exception At every point of contact in the hotel the staff were helpfull and particularly in the restaurant andd bars the service was great

The hotel and food was good, however when we came off the course on Monday at about 2.15 we could not get anything to eat other than a toasted sandwich. This was very disappointing as we had long journeys home. This spoilt a great weekend for our group of 38. Ham egg and chips would have most welcome. This is why I have give only 3 stars for facilities.

Great golf bar. Superb atmosphere and set up for groups of golfers. Rooms were great and food good.

Fabulous location and surroundings- great courses . The room was a little dated and the food was pub grub style but it was still fantastic value for money. The staff are truly amazing -so bubbly , hard working and helpful- 5 star overall and would recommend.

Rooms and food very good for the money the biggest problem we encountered was with the bar by the first tee. The staff were very slow serving and did not seem to have had the correct training, also the price of some of the drinks seem to be excessive eg 1/2 pint of coke £2 75 and it closes at 6pm. There is another bar which does stay open later but nobody told us about until mthe second night.

Leah our waitress was excellent. A pleasant smile and always willing to help.Nothing was too much trouble.

Reception booking in very slow. Food well presented and served. A cup of tea costing £3 which we had to make ourselves was a bit high! Staff courteous Rooms very ample in size with good en-suite and add-ons. A lot of walking up and down stairs to move around the hotel.

Faultless. All of the staff were excellent. The breakfast and evening meal times were arranged to accommodate our golf rounds. Highly recommended

This was a really lovely hotel and staff were very friendly. The only thing that took the edge off a perfect experience was that our table wasn't ready for us at 8.30, and when we were seated the menu choices for the package were not explained. Service was very slow, food was very nice, once it finally arrived. The manager explained this was due to staff being stretched with a wedding, however they did not explain this until we complained as we finally received our bill just before 11pm. The following day the food order at the bar took a long time to arrive too. Luckily we weren't in too much of a hurry!

The hotel, the rooms and the grounds were excellent and the service from all of the staff was superb. Staff coverage was a little light at the bar before dinner and other guests seemed unhappy that 40 of us were queuing for drinks but everything about this place is excellent.

The hotel has a strange set that means that you have go up stairs then down stairs several times just to get to the reception and dining room. The food and service in the main dining room was good but the golf bar, clearly evidenced the lack of staff or new staff. One example of this was to wait nearly an hour for a portion of chips by one of our group.

Easy check in with great room overlooking the 18th green. Good value set menu dinner and a sturdy breakfast next morning. A more than average experience

We were very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff even for the smallest things. (One slight criticism is that they are very swift in taking away plates etc between courses - perhaps too quick - it may be a Mariott policy.)

Overall we were very pleased with our stay, but we were fortunate that there were dry conditions on day 2 (Priory Course) as no Buggies would have been available for H&S reasons, as the course could be dangerous because of the slopes. However the Pro-shop staff said there would be no green-fee refunds at all for disabled golfers who would have been unable to play without a buggy. Very unsatisfactory for a party of "Veterans"!!! WHY, when the amounts involved are very small?

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at Breadsall Priory. We were grateful that we were able to postpone our trip (originally booked in 2020) and it was well worth the wait. Staff were excellent and we enjoyed playing the 2 courses (challenging though they were!). I would certainly recommend the hotel for a golfing break .

The Hotel,Golf Courses and staff we could not fault. Our room in the Mews was excellent. Our only gripe was on our first morning for breakfast,the plates were cold (although they were placed on a plate warmer). The food was also cold. On the second morning,the plates were cold again but thankfully the food was hot. We could not fault the evening meals,they were excellent.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in the twin rooms are spacious and 2 large double beds with tea/coffee condiments and 2 bottles of water handy for the next day the food was excellent would recommend a stay there

Lovely setting. Staff very friendly. Drinks obviously overpriced especially soft drinks so best get a bit drunk it's cheaper. Food was lovely. We had 26 in our party and not one complaint.

The rooms were very clean and the two queen size beds are perfect. The food in the restaurant was excellent on both days and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only gripe is the lack of staff in the Cast Iron Bar which meant we were waiting more than 10 minutes on two occasions to get served a drink!

Fantastic stay at Breadsall Priory which all of our Group thoroughly enjoyed. All the staff were very friendly and hardworking and i would like to especially like to praise Martine who was superb and efficient and a credit to the Hotel well done !!!!

Hotel was really good and better than expected even though Marriott has a good name. Evening meals and breakfast were really good and the staff were brilliant going that extra mile. The golf, that’s a different story, moorland course was pleasant enough but would have been nice to have been told about green maintenance, we know it has to be done but some warning would have been nice. The priory course is the nicer of the two but can only be described as a slog if not using buggies, at the time we were there they were not allowing buggies out on the priory course, that also would have been nice to know in advance. All in all a good couple of nights away with perfect weather 👍😎

Excellent hotel, in all aspects of the above. Took some finding though, thank goodness for satnav. Also,i am a 73 year old mail with a disability, ankle fusion operation, and cant walk without an aid, stick or crutches,i had a heart bypass 2015 so have to be careful up & down stairs. I booked through "yourgolftravel" and informed them of my disabilities and would require a buggy for the two rounds of golf, Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th,they came back to me with, that buggies booked and to pay in pro shop £35 total for both days. But after the Saturday game i was informed i would have to pay another £35 for Sunday. Therefor I would like a refund of £35 from Breadsall Priory Hotel Golf & country Club, or Y,G,T.

The only reason why the bar and restaurant quality has been marked down is the appalling waiting service experienced in the restaurant for our evening meal. If the property does not have the staff required (numbers or adequately trained) they should revert to just offering a bar food service only. The bar staff in the leisure complex area were excellent!

The hotel was a great facility, unfortunately a lot of the staff were new and service was slow. I think they were overwhelmed with numbers in the hotel.

I stayed at Breadsall Priory hotel last week. The hotel is excellent. Staff were great. Room was first class, dinner and breakfast was delicious. Perfect getaway.

11 of us travelled to Derby for a nice weekend of golf, after the past 18 months it was not expected to be quite back to normal as yet. The hotel did seem short staffed and there were some issues in bars and restaurants, but that is true of a lot of places currently so hard to judge if its an ongoing issue or caused by the current climate, the staff that were there seemed to do their best to help and were accommodating. The biggest issue was that although we had asked for buggies, and it was logged on the itinerary, the request had not been passed on to the golf course, again the staff did their best for us, and those that wouldn't have got round without a buggy got one, but some did have to walk the course when they would have preferred not to. I was told by staff that this was a common occurrence when booking through YGT so probably best to double check directly after booking, maybe YGT could look at their process as well. All in all a nice weekend and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Great stay a little short staffed in bars. Evening meal was lovely. Breakfast was acceptable. Rooms were lovely and very comfortable beds. Pool was first class and steam and sauna rooms. Can’t fault the facilities.

Golf was relaxing and great Accommodation tired and the hotel short staffed The bar was under staffed and ran out of glasses and beer on one occasion and could do with a TV for sports in there A wasps nest which was not tended to ..

Slight confusion when booking in but sorted out very quickly. Rooms had 2 double beds and shower in bath was powerful. Past reviewers were moaning about slow service throughout but we didn't encounter any delay during our meals and breakfast buffet was ideal. I would recommend that the bars have extra staff at busy times but overall very pleased.

Food not good enough versus our visit in 2019

The setting of Breadsall and its facilities are excellent. However it is let down by a lack of firm management: rubbish and cigarette butts strewn about, tables not cleared, appalling buffet with very limited quantities of food (except for an early breakfast which was fine), earnest but inexperienced staff lacking direction and training in customer service and, worst of all, a generally dirty environment - the dirt on the banisters in the modern block has to be seen to be believed for example - we have photos if management are interested. The room we had was very comfortable but attention needed to minor details eg mould around the bath. Could be a wonderful place to stay and play golf if management got its act together and sorted these issues out which do not require spending money.

Really disappointed with the hotel - service left a lot to be desired. Could not get lunch from the main restaurant even though it said you could on the TV in the room. Lunch was pre-packed sandwiches. Dinner we had our order "lost" so we waited ages and had a free drink because of the wait. Would not stay there again unless it was for the golf courses.

Food was very disappointing in the evening & was amazed to find when we arrived at noon the hotel offered no food was so ever, not a sandwich or any hot food at all, nothing until 6.30pm when the restaurant opened! We won't be returning or recommending to our friends.

The hotel is amazing beautiful old fashioned beautiful gardens and flowers grounds around the hotel the only problem we found was when we finished playing golf there wasn’t any where we could have a drink or something to eat which was very disappointing other than that the stay was good

Although short of staff it wasn't noticeable and the the staff were always happy to comply with requests. Hotel room fine. Food was excellent, buffet morning and evening. Only slight problem was the number of stairs (up and down) that needed negotiating.

Our stay at Breadsall Priory Hotel should have been a wonderful 31st anniversary treat, however the picturesque setting couldn't make up for the lack of basic service requirements expected from a 4 star hotel. On arrival we upgraded to a 'priory room' at a cost and were pleased with the room and the views. We always arrive a couple of hours prior to our tee time so we can have a leisurely lunch after the long drive. We went to the hotel restaurant only to find it deserted apart from two members of staff deep in discussion. Another member of staff informed us that no fresh food for lunch would be available and the restaurant was closed! Had we been made aware, we could have stopped at a pub en route but why would you when your going to a 4 star hotel! We were then informed that only 'pre packed' sandwich's would be available from the 'Tempo' bar at the other end of the hotel by the golf shop, we found 2 cheese and pickle sandwich's and a chicken wrap, appalling really, especially after a 3 hour drive. After our round of golf we went to the same bar for drinks only to be informed there was a limited choice of beers available and only crisps to eat. We put this behind us and looked forward to a decent dinner that evening. Arriving at the restaurant we were told there was no record of our booking and there would be a charge of £28.50 each for the buffet! Buffet!! We expected a freshly cooked dinner from a menu but had a barely edible buffet instead, it wasn't even replenished when low on foods! Breakfast the following morning was acceptable but to be honest, it's pretty hard to get that wrong and if you do you may as well give up! I work in the golf industry, working for two golf professionals who want to hear of our stay.

Unfortunately the “dinner” is not an evening meal but a buffet and no way can be the value allowed of£28 per head as they explained. The staff are great but the decision to change to buffet was thrust upon them by management and they believe it to be for the long term not short term. This part of our trip was very disappointing to say the least as we expected a nice dinner experience paid for my birthday, not serve myself! We were also sent to another bar in the hotel to finish our drinks, to be told on arrival that they were closed! We had to ask for cutlery on a couple of occasions The breakfast was also buffet style - a little better but overall the stay was somewhat disappointing

Only disappointment was the evening menu choice and the length of time it took for the food to arrive. When it did, which was a good hour after ordering, one main course was missing and it was a further 20mins or so until it arrived!

there were 10 of us in 5 twin rooms booked for a stag do and we all agreed it was a superb hotel in a superb location.We all enjoyed the stay and couldn't fault anything.

The hotel itself is in an idylic location and a typical country style type mansion albeit, due to it's quirky ness and many different floor levels is not ideally suited for anyone with a physical disability ( as was the case with our party ). Although the accommodation and food was very good the service was abyssmal. There was no structure and the staff did not appear to know what they were doing. Our evening meal took almost 2 hours !! We will not be revisiting.

Food and accommodation was excellent. The customer service from staff in the bar and restaurant however was a bit hit and miss varying from excellent to down right rude. We didn’t let it spoil our stay because overall a really good set up. Just a pity the bar near the course wasn’t open— lack of staff apparently.

Rooms not allocated, issues with food order but partly are fault due to order sheet not good. Turned the lights out on us in the bar Fri night, bar closed early both nights understood the hotels have 24 hr licence, could get drinks on 1 st day till 11.30. Food was excellent & bar service good when bar open. Dissapointed with yourgolfvtravel with shortage of buggies but YGT blamed Bredshall and Breadshall blamed YGT, also did not receive Taylor made golf club until 10 July when full payment paid in May, therefore unable to present prize to winner on final day.

Great all round, if anything bed was to firm but that’s just for me, food was great, as was breakfast. Staff friendly and attentive nothing was to much trouble

We really enjoyed our stay at Marriott Breadsall Priory. We had 1 night's accommodation in 2 twin double rooms overlooking the 18th green of the Priory Course and could not fault the rooms in terms of cleanliness, quietness and facilities (excellent TV in particular). All meals at the Cast Iron Bar & Grill were of high quality too, including a well-presented breakfast buffet in the morning. Staff attentiveness in the bar/restaurant was inconsistent, with some long waits between drinks orders which was a bit frustrating. Overall, highly recommended for a golf break.

The accommodation was great a lovely period hotel, I have given some 3 star reviews this is only down to Covid restrictions otherwise they would have been higher. Staff where great we all felt safe and enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic would recommend

My husband and I recently returned from a golf break which had been initially set for May but had been rearranged for this last weekend by Ben at YGT. We played both golf courses and found them in very good condition, challenging and quirky in places but always entertaining. The hotel seemed busy but well organised, very friendly staff and CoVid safe especially under these very trying times. The rooms were clean, bright and well equipped. We had a prebooked DBB with a special golfers menu which we found to be very nice, plenty of choice, well cooked and ample portions. A special mention to Danielle who served and waited on us at breakfast. All staff we spoke too were very helpful, obliging , polite and well meaning. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break and will return again. If you like your golf and want to stay in a beautiful location you will not be disappointed, we weren’t. Thank you to all the staff for making our visit so enjoyable and safe in these strange times. Date of stay: October 2020

Due to COVID-19 this was not a normal experience. Staff coped well. Management had clear and reasonable procedures. Bedrooms are a long way from bars and restaurants with many changes of level and direction - up a few steps, turn left, turn right, down a few steps - repeat.

Hotel was very well set up in these difficult circumstances but staff seemed to lack direction at dinner as service was very very slow

Difficult to rate things with Covid restrictions. Limited menu, breakfast poor with no paper menu so we did not know what was available. Feel they have used situation to charge 5 star prices with 4 star service. Having said that we always enjoy Breadsall and hope after Covid they return to their 5 stars.

Had problems with our food in grill bar. Food not cooked to our standard. Food returned twice and this took a long time coming back and Managers attitude for not good.

We had a Lovely Family Gathering. Staff were lovely Especially the ones who waited on us Friday & Saturday Evening in our Private Room The Actual Hotel & Grounds Were Wonderful. Decent hotel, good food, staff very friendly though they got our dinner bill wrong on both evenings.

Whilst individually staff are extremely helpful and friendly, overall the hotel fell well below expectations. This is the first time I have stayed in a 4* hotel which didn't provide bedside lamps, the mattress cover was stained and the beds rock hard. Housekeeping was poor: the floors were not cleaned daily, toilet rolls and beverages were not replaced. Breakfast was very good as was the other food but on one occasion we waited over 45 minutes between finishing starters and being served main course. Restaurant staff training in some respects is poor.

It has been several years since I last stayed and the rooms are rather tired and in need of refurbishment. We were disappointed as Gareth had requested an upgrade for one of our party who was celebrating a significant birthday (80) but this was not forthcoming. Dinner was served in the leisure centre grill which had no atmosphere compared with the Priory restaurant which we have used previously, however the food was good and service excellent. Not the hotel to stay at for a celebration.

This hotel is very good at providing a really good golf break, starting with check in (they bring all the forms and keys to you in the bar following your first round. Dinners were well organised with plenty of staff on hand and food arriving pipping hot. Rooms were large with 2 doubles, plenty of wardrobe space, desk etc. The large pool was great and at a nice temperature along with a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

Every member of staff was friendly and helpful. The room was perfect and located near to the golf and spa. We arrived early and the room was ready before we played golf.

Lovely hotel and good staff. The bar was OK. We had dinner included and it was Ok - the portions and style of food was a bit light for a gang of golfers. We only found three small prawns each in the prawn cocktail.

As discussed with Paul. Our stay this time was way below the standard we have enjoyed in previous years. 1. Golf courses as brilliant as ever. 2. Rooms as good as ever. 3. Dining. We have normally eaten in the restaurant and the food has always been great. However, this trip was a disaster. We were told when we went down to the restaurant to dine that we would be eating in a room off the golf bar. We were not happy with this at all. All dressed up and nowhere to go really. I complained that it was a long way away and the ladies had stiletto heels on. So they ran us round to the room in a golf buggy. Not good. The place we were shown to was little more than a McDonalds. Walls had brick wallpaper on, very tacky. The tables were little more than Formica tables. Another 2 tables were occupied with 2's. No atmosphere at all. The food was inedible to say the least. It was awful. Mush. Went back to the room for a packet of crisps. We have been going to this hotel for approx 10 years and always praised the hotel. However, we will not be returning there again. Sadly.

Accomodation the quality you would expect from a Marriott hotel. Very comfortable room

The rooms were very much on a 4 star level with two huge beds and a flat screen which included sky sports. Our room was ready prior to our 2:20pm round of golf which was great. We also had no issues with the promotional resort credit.

Hotel rooms very comfortable & immaculately clean. Welcoming staff. BUT - food let them down badly. We sent food back on THREE separate occasions. A pear & walnut tart with pastry that was too had to cut let alone eat; it came back as a totally different tart but at least edible; LUKE WARM cooked breakfast - a complaint elicited "I'll tell chef"; a salmon & avocado sandwich that contained no avocado - corrected second time around. Dinner for four in the Grill Room (no restaurant) took over TWO & a HALF HOURS. Stayed here before with YGT - food excellent. NOT this time. Will we be returning??

The hotel was excellent , 2 double beds in the room . Not that we spent much time in there . The food was decent though dinner choice was limited , 1 meat , 1 fish and 1 veggie . Breakfast was spot on .

Excellent in every aspect

Although we were in the newer part of the hotel, our room was well appointed and comfortable. It was only a short distance from the car park. The staff were all extremely friendly. The bar was very busy and bustling. I had the set dinner menu which was excellent.

Conditions were good but course was very busy. It is a very picturesque setting but very hilly and I would recommend a buggy. Quite a difficult course to play if you are not used to hills and the greens were tricky. Play was slow which meant we had to miss out the last two holes. A pleasure to play though.

Our tee time was 2.30 we didn’t finish the round only playing 14 holes and had to walk in in the dark. We followed 3 + groups of inexperienced young golfers in buggies who held us up everywhere- very disappointing

A great course with lots of variation, fantastic views, elevated tees, in good condition. Some sloping fairways and greens made the course challenging but thoroughly enjoyable. A course that keeps you fit, as quite hilly. Loved it.

Lovely course, despite the rain, wind & thunder! Lots of attractive moorlandish features and some interesting holes. Some long walks between holes - the scorecard map proved very handy. A very good course for a hotel resort.

The game was slow because people played the wrong holes, the course signage if not adequate. Otherwise in excellent condition considering the lack of rain. We will be back!

Very tricky course with slopping fairways on a number of holes. Greens in great condition and some difficult to read. Hard to pick a signature hole because there was a few to choose from but the eleventh stood out for most of our group. Would recommend anyone should play the course.

This was our favourite course! Although it was challenging at times it was great fun to play and the scenery was spectacular!

Few hills, and less attractive scenically, than Priory but, with generally wide fairways, and few tricky hazards, it is ideal for corporate golf, and higher handicappers.

Set in beautiful countryside, this is a challenging, hilly course, which requires plenty of stamina, and sensible course management. Fairways and greens were well maintained.

The Priory course is in desperate need to tje addition of some bells on the course, nearly got hit on 2 occasions, obe occasion was on the green of a blind hole, very dangerous, missed me by 2 feet coming from a great hight.

Really enjoyed the course. Quirky in places so needed focused course management and fairways were excellent. Some stunning views too. Downside were the greens which were really really slow.

No buggies despite the course being a lot drier than the Moorlands. 5 or 6 temporary greens when the actual greens on these holes were drier and in better condition to some we played. Temp greens were more often than not a hole/flag on the fairway. Greenkeepers were putting sand on the greens, (which we were not told about) so 2 of the holes were like putting in bunker and on one of them the greenkeepers had left the flag out (we were first on the course so it had to be them) Too many matts for tees when the tees looked absolutely fine. Lack of signage on certain holes for first time golfers. Fully understand that they want to protect the course and keep it in good condition but we had not had any rain for well over a week and the course was dry without any 'wet/soggy/ areas at all, so think they were too over protective. Sanding the greens was annoying as would have expected to be informed by the pro ship staff. When you book in advance with gol travel you are taking a risk with weather etc but the protection of this course was way OTT Very frustrating as some lovely holes and a course you need to think about your shots on every hole, but overall it was a very disappointing experience

Fairway mats were in play but as we have never used these on any course before, we moved any shots on the fairway into the semi rough. Greens had recently been treated and were bobbly and slow. Course was in decent condition and buggies were allowed. A very open course with a lot of holes running side by side so a lot of taking shots close to to other holes or people doing the same on the hole we were on. Some signage issues on certain holes and as first time players, we did rely on members to help on a couple of occasions. Not a bad experience overall and one where straight hitting is required

Missed a buggy…couldn’t understand why they weren’t allowed.

Much more undulating and physically demanding to play than Moorland. - ideally I would have used a buggy (not available on day as course too wet). Lots of side and up/down hill lies, numerous raised tee boxes and raised greens - and many doglegs. Needs a bit better signage to help navigate course. We struggled to find a couple of tee boxes - saved by a marshal pointing us in the right direction. Enjoyable 18 holes though.

Well maintained easiier course than priory course but still a good challenge to all handicaps.Its flatter than priory but still a few up and down climbs. Recommend both course.

The course was in excellent condition, greens true but fast.There are a few blind shots if you don't know the course,but on playing for a 2nd time made club selection easier. Fairways and bunkers also well maintained.No hold ups on the round and played in good time.Its a hilly course so a buggy may be a good option.

Course was in good condition. It’s a very challenging course to play first time. Very intense walk with the hilly layout. This then we found you could be punished for playing a good shot as rolled of fairway into rough most of the time. Then greens played very slow and had very subtle breaks around the pins. Enjoyed the front 9 but the start of the back 9 found the next few holes very confusing and not enjoyable. The 10 th hole especially was not good after climbing all the way to the green you had to walk all the way down hole again after taking tee shot on 11th , nearly got with golf ball. Also the 12th playing your 2nd shot to the green over a road with cars driving past. Never seen that before and if you made an poor shot and hit a car you would be liable for any damage. Finishing holes were ok especially nice par 3 17th.

Really enjoyed the course was in good condition. Played with all mixed HC players and we all found it a fair challenge. Only downside would be a bit better signage between holes.

Unfortunately ended up following the same groups as we had the day before, by the time we got to 9th there where 3 lots on the tee. It was raining so decided to finish half way round. Nice course, totally different to Moorland. Would like to go back and play again.

We played Moorland on the 1st day, pace of play was good till we got to 6th hole then we waited on every shot on every hole! Nice course.

Very tough course to walk, I thought I was quite fit, walked it twice, second time by the time I walked up the hills to the tee I hardly had the energy to hit the ball, no wonder the guy's who had played it before all booked buggies for that course,a few of us tried to book a buggy for second round none left, not enough buggies in my opinion.

The priory course is excellent and we loved it, and will be going back next year.

the moorland was good

We were told that hole 11 was going to be shortened due to drain work but we were not told that 16and 17 were not in play .I also e mailed YGT to tell them this but have not heard back which is very disappointing.

A difficult and tricky course for average golfers. We had one of our ladies hit on the head by a stray ball which was quite serious and she was taken to A and E. the people responsible did not shout and did not follow up their stray shot. The course was very busy

Again, very average golfers in high 90s. Lovely course for scenery and sites/views. Very hilly with main fairways running down to either right or left, so a good tee shot could end up on the other side of the fairway in lite rough by running off. Played the course twice, once in rain and the next day in lovely sunshine. Course in good condition but didn’t drain well in a few places after the days constant rain. Followed behind a couple of competitions and seniors so not fast rounds, waited on most tees, but no great pain as we were on a golf break so not in a rush. No one pushing us from behind either. Both courses about just over 4 hours for the round. Really enjoyed both courses.

We are enthusiastic high 90s players. The Moorland course was open and so forgiving when need be. In very good condition, really enjoyed the round. Buggie travels around the course with refreshments if needed. Good round.

Only problem was that the last 3 holes were closed off due to water logging and 2 other greens had temporary greens. No discount offered - just advised to play 3 other holes again. Nice course though - very hilly and also windy when we played so quite difficult.

Buggies were banned because parts of the course were wet but this is not a course for older men without buggies as it is so steep in places. And the V last 4 holes were closed.

Due to the wet weather the course was closed on the Sunday but 14 holes were open on Monday. We played holes 1 to 7 for a second time and finished near the driving range.

Better than the Priory but still slow at four and a quarter hours. An interesting course that was in my view more enjoyable than the Priory.

An absolute disaster. We were a two ball and were made up to a four ball with two other hotel guests. We were able to get off slightly early so were able to play as a two ball. Play was incredibly slow it took five and a half hours. There was a course marshal but they did nothing to speed up play. Some interesting holes but some ridiculous ones as well.

We played this twice. In very good condition despite the rain in the preceding week. The design means that the shorter par 4s are no gimme. Very good.

I've marked the course as hard as it's quite undulating and a bit of a slog for us older guys. In good nick though. They look after their courses. It was closed on day one due to the weather but they swapped us to the Moorland. Refreshing to see a club not allow q course to be ruined by keeping it open.

We were only able to do 9 holes due to the adverse weather conditions prior to our arrival As a club you really need to have electric trolleys for hire

This was a disaster, it was the first time the course had been open since September 2022. It was very wet with the last four holes closed and two others on temporary greens. The temporary tees are shocking and the metal ones are springy and could easily damage clubs should you hit the surface of the mat. I have tried a couple of times to contact the director of golf to see if they will offer us a free 4 ball so we can go back and play it when its fully open and in better condition.

The course is fairly generous, however there were a lot of temporary tees and two holes had temporary greens with the 18th hole closed altogether. The greens had been slit and this affected the roll of the ball quite significantly.

It is short but a real challenge, particularly the back nine. It is very, very hilly with sloping fairways and contours to manage. There are blind tee shots and judging distance with the elevation can be difficult.

This is a good warm up for the Priory course. It is mostly wide open and straightforward to keep the ball in play. However, the contours and the layout of the greens give the course sufficient defence to make it a challenge.

No comparison to the Priority course with it being mainly open space,little character and I thought rather bland.

A good test of golf with mature trees and some excellent holes with the majority having smaller well protected greens.

Total contrast to the Priory course which is a good thing, easier to walk and not so difficult.

An absolutely stunning parkland course with lots of feature holes presenting a great challenge, highly recommended.

The moorland course is an open course like a links type which was exposed to the strong winds which made it play much tougher.The greens were faster than the priory and we all enjoyed it especially playing match play.

Played the Priory course on Sunday 14.00 tee time. The course was in good condition, greens, bunkers etc however as it was windy it was a harder test, we managed to get round before it got dark it was very busy.

This was a great course with sloping fairways fast greens. It is hilly so some may need a buggy if you have problem walking. Our group scores reflected the difficulty of the course.

A good course to play first not to difficult but some long par 3s and 4s. Our scoring reflected this for our group of 38.

Amazing course but very difficult. Also very hilly as well so buggies advised. This is a special course and we all loved it. Greens were great but dont have a 6 foot downhill. You can find yourself off the green!!!!

Easiest of 2 courses. Not very long but lots of interesting holes. Greens were in great condition.

A very enjoyable experience although some of our older members found some of the climbs a little tiring.This is however not a critisism but an observation.

All 8 members of our group enjoyed the experience and would have no hesitation in playing the course again.

A very open course in good condition easy walking compared to the Priory course. Everyone in the group preferred this course but it might have been different if there had been a wind blowing. There are several areas on both course where I considered dangerous as there is very little or nothing separating players on adjoining fairways.

The priory course is hard going with a number of steep inclines and blind tee shots slightly easier the second time around suggest using a buggy. The greens had just been hollow tined when we played which made putting a lottery and detracted from the enjoyment. If we had been notified before we would have switched to 2 rounds on the Moorlands course.

Disappointing that the Priory course we weren’t warned about the work being done on the course but we enjoyed playing it.The Moreland was much worse. Again not warned about the work being done.

We were disappointed. We didn’t think this was a championship course. If we came back would not be happy to play it.

Due to the dry conditions the long grass came into play! Work on the greens made putting slower than usual and not true. Torrential rain drove players off the course

By far the best of the 2 courses that we played during our stay. The greens were in excellent condition.

Unfortunately the greens had been recently sanded and spiked so they weren’t in the best condition which was emphasised when we played the Priory course

The fairways are quite narrow with steep slopes which made it tricky to complete. I'm pleased we booked a buggy as pulling a trolley round the course would have been quite tiring, although the buggy hire was quite expensive at £35!

The Moorland course slope rating suggests that this is the easier course. We found it to be quite the opposite. The touch of wind we had when playing this course made it extremely difficult, even to get out of the lighter rough. Both courses were in excellent condition although both could do with more bells on the holes with blind shots

We found this course slightly easier to play than the Moorland and our scoring reflected this. The course has some really nice holes, especially some of the Par 3s and shorter Par 4s in play. Really enjoyed this course.

Great opening holes 1 to 8 after that the course feels a bit squashed with holes running up and down alongside each other till the 16th. Course in great condition tee to green.

The course slope rating took us by surprise as there was some difficult holes. It is a very tiring course and to play it on consecutive days took its toll, you are definitively recommended to take a buggy on the second day.

This course surprised us as we thought it may have been the lesser quality course, however, we were pleasantly surprised how much this course has developed since I last played it.

Hard in parts as direction of the tee not always easy to follow ( 10th kept us guessing) Good quick greens with subtle borrows

The Moorland Course was obviously flatter and the Priory Course was hilly and quite challenging but very enjoyable.

Great course with some really nice holes. Fairways and greens were superb.

Signature course. Beautiful to look at and play. All 26 of us loved it. Need to play to certain points so know what you hit and their distances. Greens are sloping and fast, can be difficult to land on especially if they are sloping away from you. A few sloping fairways so a good shot can be penalised at times. Some lovely, quirky holes like 12 where you play over the entrance road to get on the green. Would definitely go back to this venue.

This is the more open course. Its hilly so playing to raised and lower sloping greens. Some lovely holes on this course. Criss crosses a little bit in middle of round but good in giving you a chance to open up your shoulders off the tee. Really enjoyed it. Greens are sloping and quick. Played in April 2023 so these will get quicker.

Nice design but the groups playing 5 hour plus pace needs marshalling better to much waiting to play

Different prospect from the Priory, but with the 25/30 mph winds we faced, once again a good test. A lot flatter but again some interesting holes.

Very enjoyable but tough, both on your game and on your legs if you're walking. But the views are excellent and there are some really interesting holes.

The Moorland Course was easier and more flatter so made pulling a trolley easier on the legs than the Priory Course. Greens we found a bit slower and a few less holes with Temporary tees.

Excellent Course but would recommend a buggy as very hilly in places. only downside was some temporary mats on some holes greens were ok with some great views.

Great course bar needs more staff

Great course although disappointed one buggy was nor maid available for one guy we had with a disability. This was one the Friday but buggy’s were out on that course Saturday

The green staff were working hard whilst the superb weather allowing them to hollow Tyne and dress. Despite this the greens were true but a bit woolly.

The weather was superb and the green staff took advantage meaning the greens were a bit woolly whilst treating them. The halfway house closed but not needed by us. However, the portaloo was very poorly maintained and not clean.

A bit disappointed as we could only play the first 14 holes & the 11th hole was a flag in the middle of the fairway, no temporary green cut, also had to play from the rough.

Course was ok for time of year, only downfall was that we had to play from the rough.

A different feel to the Priory course open fairways. Local rule in operation no shots played from fairways had to move ball to fringes to protect the fairways after last weeks rain. Would love to play both course's again in drier conditions.

The slopes are a challenge if like me you live on the edge of the Fens. Holes 14 to 18 closed due to being water logged and protecting the fairway's and greens. The greens staff certainly keep the course in good order

Not allowed to hit ball off the fairways. Had to lift and place in the second cut. Slightly baffling, as the fairways were much drier than on the Priory course. Greens running okay.

Four holes closed due to conditions. However we were able to play extra holes as compensation. Greens a little fluffy, fairways a little heavy going. Several winter tees.

Disappointed. Course very wet. Only 14 holes playable. 8th fairway littered with range balls.

Little disappointed with having to pay another £35 for a buggy???? Very wet today. To many golfers on course today, 2 hours 25min for 1st 9, Started 12-30. walked of the 18th 5-50, missed the Manu v Liverpool match P S no golf course is easy!!!!!

physically demanding but lovely views etc. hole marking for 10th was poor needs more signage at the 9th green and to point you to the 10th tee half way down the 9th fairway on the left hand side - we didnt see the tee box

A lot of blind holes need to play it a couple of times. But one of the best courses we have played, for course scenery and greens . Amazing even all the practice facilities were top notch.

Greens were lovely started off slow then sped up as the day went on. Lovely fairways moorland hard to get out of. Highly recommend.

Another great course at this location. Much flatter than the Priory but it did have some long uphill par 4's and some lovely short ones too. You have to use every shot to get round here.

A pleasure to walk the fairways in such great condition.. Course has a bit of a blip around the 10th but otherwise a very good test. Very hilly but good shots can be rewarded.

Lovely course albeit hard for us given our handicaps! Once again the pro shop staff were absolutely wonderful facilitating an earlier tee time than booked start and finding a buggy for us before a big corporate event. Thank you!

Going off the fairway meant you would struggle to find your ball. Very flat and open compared with The Priory - definitely the poor relation of the two.

Lovely course although lots of grass cuttings left on the fairways which meant constantly having to clean the ball. Outside of that a beautiful course that was testing.

Apart from almost being hit half a dozen times it was very average!

Out over the hills with this course, wind can help with distance and stroke index 1 is a difficult drive with trees either side of the fairway.

Two courses! Good condition with plenty of testing fairways, not for the faint hearted.

Could do with proper toilet facilities and again a member of staff on the first tee to organise big groups

There where a lot of societies on the course which slowed our game down quite a bit should be more organised when big groups going out and you have a two ball waiting behind to go no member of staff on the first tee to organise

Excellent course. Was very hilly and after walking the first time resorted to buggies for the second round. I wouldn't recommend walking for anyone with fitness problems (hence the 4 star overall rating).

Course was fine except the long rough which meant finding a ball was very difficult. Slow rating due to problems with the rough (probably not a problem for better players).

The Priory Course is a delight to play, hilly in places with some elevated tees and greens. Very well looked after and a true challenge. Both courses were enjoyable to play but the hotel experience was woeful, truly awful. This hotel needs a massive shake up, proper management and experienced staff would be a start, along with a decent chef. People stay at hotels as a rare treat, I think we would have been treated better at the local pub. Suffice to say we wouldn't stay again unless we were confident of a fully open restaurant for lunch and dinner...with a menu.

Part of our trip was also to review two new Powakaddy compact electric trollies for the professionals I work with. The Moorland course is the most recent edition to the resort and is laid out over existing farm land. Fairly open with some mature trees and an easy walk. The greens were true but slow. The course is well looked after, with good bunkering and well manicured tees, fairways and greens.

Back 9 was a challenge but great. Really enjoyed it

The Priory course was nice but was followed all the way round 18 holes by mowers . Tee time was 12pm ???!!!!!
