A serious contender for the best golf resort in Spain, Camiral, a Quinta do Lago Resort (formerly PGA Catalunya) is one of Europe’s must-visit golfing hotspots.
Located only a 10-minute drive from Girona Airport and an hour north of Barcelona, everything at Camiral is designed with you in mind. Boasting two fantastic courses, both more than worthy of a round, that said, the Stadium course is truly something special.
Ranked 3rd of all Spanish golf courses in Golf Digest’s 2018 ‘Best Golf Courses In 206 Countries’ and recently announced to host the 2031 Ryder Cup, this championship course is a European must-play.

Despite only opening for play in the late 1990s, Camiral has established itself firmly in the exclusive list of Spain's best, aided by the award of a number of prestigious national and international events, both amateur and professional. The highlight came when the course was chosen to host two European Tour events in the space of 10 months, the Gene Sarazen World Open and the Spanish Open.
A culmination of more than a decade of planning and design by the European Tour, Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles, The Stadium Course offers an exciting and testing examination of golf and, due to the fact that each hole can be played from one of five separate tee positions, even golfers with the most modest of handicaps can enjoy the ride. It is from the back tees though that the Stadium Course really bares its teeth.
Measuring over 7,200 yards from the tips, the Stadium Course requires solid hitting but it’s not simply a case of strength over strategy. Winding its way through the foothills Pyrenees, the Stadium Course features a number of large lakes, tree lined fairways that pinch in at specific distances and well bunkered greens which are maintained to the highest possible standard year-round.
All of this calls for plenty of thought and strategy from the tee and with a great deal of variety throughout, the test of golf on offer here is a dynamic and infinitely enjoyable one.
Camiral Golf & Wellness Resort is ranked as one of the best courses in Spain
2014 Open de España
After 26 previous unsuccessful attempts, Miguel Angel Jimenez finally saluted at his home open – winning a sudden-death play-off over Richard Green of Australia and Belgium’s Thomas Pieters. Jimenez let slip an early two-shot lead, the trio finishing locked at 4-under before returning to the 18th for a play-off. All three failed to find the fairway and green in regulation, but Jimenez’s up-and-down proved enough to secure his 21st European Tour title and extend his own record as the oldest winner in the Tour’s history. Asked the secret of his longevity, Jiménez said: "There is no secret. Good food, good wine, good cigars and some exercise!"

The Tour Course at Camiral may be considered as the poor relation to the epic Stadium Course but that is no slight on the test of golf it offers golfers travelling to this sunny corner of Spain.
Measuring 6,453 yards, The Tour Course is far less challenging than its illustrious sibling but it remains equally as enjoyable. Fairways are more generous but tee shots must still be played with care though as, like the Stadium Course, this charming layout is bordered by majestic woodland and with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards lurking in the most cunning of positions, approach shots must be carefully considered as well.

It’s a tough courses but it’s fantastic The tees are set out by length of the course. Be humble and play from forward tees: it really is a hard course! But playable from the forward tes! Don’t even think about walking it! It’s long and hilly: take a buggy! Then you will enjoy it!

Good course and excellent facilities overall. For such a big golf resort venu, the staff were very friendly and most helpful.

Played twice from different tee boxes, visually some incredible holes - the par threes in particular, the par 5 3rd and the 13th across the water. Great course, not sure where the stands will be placed for the Ryder Cup though. You will also get paired up as is busy, but didn't feel like a slow round.

Tough track but choice of tees to align with ability visually great course and in very good condition, tough but fair, you will get paired up as they pack the tee boxes out and you can get stuck behind some slower players.

Although wider fairways than stadium course, still a good challenge with enough difficulty. When arrived on first tee, told which tee use, no choice so ended up using tee too far ahead for our group ability. One of the course marshalls was not helpful, tell us push a group in front yet we were constantly waiting as was group ahead. He even threatened us with having miss a hole out if not speed up. Got next tee, and group ahead not even teed off. He needs a new job not near a golf course!

Although course is rated as hard, it not that bad. Yes fairways are tight tree lined and some water hazards, but not impossible to score well. Rough is Bermuda grass but although not that long still affects ability his shots out so you need to be sensible.

Great golf course. Condition and design very good. Disappointing how slow pace of play was though, 3+ hours to get thru front 9 with hold ups ahead, ranger was too slow to intervene, but did eventually intervene on the back 9 and pace then improved.

The tour is easier than the stadium, we were a pair in a buggy so the starter let us play in front of the field starting at 10 and then coming round in front of the first group so had a 3 hour round - brilliant.

We played the stadium twice - once with another pair, it was a slow day, we then played with 1 other person that we knew and out round was quick - the course was quiet as rain was forecast - we gor a bit wet but not for long. Great and interesting course.

After playing the Stadium course, the Tour Course was a lot easier, but still a challenge. Excellent fast greens, everything well manicured and a pleasure to play as the fairways were a lot wider. There is one thing that all players should be aware of is that even though they state that the Resort is rated as number one in Spain and number 20 in the World they only have 77 buggies and if you need one it is imperative that you get it booked in advance.

The Stadium Course is magnificent and every hole is a challenge, with elevated well protected greens which in themselves are very fast. The course is a wonder to look at but I found it a bit to difficult for my game. There is one thing that all players should be aware of is that even though they state that the Resort is rated as number one in Spain and number 20 in the World they only have 77 buggies and if you need one it is imperative that you get it booked in advance.

The Tour course might be little brother but it is still a great challenge. Really enjoyed playing it. Probably in better condition than the Stadium course - played both in Feb. More open with more percentage shots available. You definitely won't be disappointed if you play the Tour course as your warm up round for the Stadium.

✓22 Feb 2023
Great course and superb challenge for golfers at any level. We played it twice in Feb so the course clearly wasn't at it's best with various works, repairs in progress in preparation for the summer season. Big downside on the first round was not being able to take a buggie on the course, cart paths only which often meant trying to select a club from 80 yards away. Our second round on the Tuesday allowed buggies on all but 5 holes. Notwithstanding this the course was in pretty good condition and a pleasure to play.

Course standard speaks for itself. Immaculate. Resort is immaculate. Service exceptionally great. Marshall’s on hand to speed up play. What impressed me most was that they had countered the soft conditions by using forward tees to keep it playable. If anything it made it a bit easier than we’d imagined it to be, but that’s very much the point of moving tees up, so hard to knock it. But incredibly impressed.

The tour course is perfectly designed for the needs of society golf. Really well conditioned, aesthetically pleasing and very playable. If I had one criticism it is that it was probably a tad easy, the slope rating suggested it would be much harder. But no-one wants to be beaten up by a course on tour, so perfect for our needs.

✓15 Sep 2022
The Tour course is an excellent course, albeit not as tough or long as the Stadium. It's rare you find a place that has 2 stunning courses, but PGA Catalunya is about as close to having 2 stunning courses as you'll find. All in all a great course.

✓15 Sep 2022
The Stadium course was longer than the Tour course and as a result much tougher. There are some stunning holes on this course, which we all played 3 times. Some played it 5 times!! Greens were slower than my local course back home and the fairways had been watered, so don't expect much run on the tee shots. The greens were very receptive and I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. The back 9 holes are a proper challenge!!

Well worth the experience of playing a PGA standard course. I loved it. Very proud of myself in completing the course and only loosing two balls! The course was beautiful. Listen out for the cuckoo. If you have time play both courses twice as you learn how to approach the greens. Enjoy 🏌️♀️

2 rounds on a lovely course. Little disappointed that great greens were poor late in the day due to seemingly no one repairing even severe pitch marks. This is a great golf course, which is the "little brother" of the Stadium course. It was nice to have a bit of a respite on this course after the exacting challenge the day before. Make no mistake, you still have to strike it well, but you don't get beaten up. Greens were actually even better than the Stadium course, and I was generally very impressed.

This is one of the finest courses in Europe. The views are spectacular, the course plays hard but fair, and (with the exception of the intimidating starter watching over you until he realises you can play a bit!) the place is relaxed, friendly and efficient. A couple of holes which would make my top 10 anywhere.
