Doña Julia Golf Resort sits on the Casares coast, just up the road from Estepona and within straightforward reach of both Málaga and Gibraltar airports. That makes it a handy base if your group wants a sunny Costa del Sol break without bouncing hotels every night.

On the course, you'll notice straight away how the layout uses the hillside rather than trying to tame it. Fairways rise and fall with the terrain, serving up plenty of uneven lies and long looks out to the Mediterranean. It's not a brute of a track, but it does ask proper questions. Think more about lines into greens, the right side of the fairway and leaving yourself the right angle, especially where bunkers pinch landing areas and elevated putting surfaces demand a confident strike.

The par threes are a highlight for shot-makers, while several tighter driving holes reward placement over power. If you enjoy plotting your way round with a sensible club off the tee and a crisp iron in hand, Doña Julia will feel right up your street.

Weather-wise, this corner of Andalucía is typically kind year-round. Expect firmer, faster-running fairways through the warmer months and a slightly softer, more receptive feel when it cools down, which keeps the course interesting if you return each season.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a quality Costa del Sol round with standout sea views and an easy base near Estepona.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers and mixed groups who enjoy strategic golf, good variety and a course that rewards smart decisions rather than pure length.

Dona Julia Golf Resort

The par-71 course was designed by Antonio Garrido, once a famous European Tour professional and now an esteemed golf architect, and the greens, tees, drainage and irrigation systems have been constructed in accordance with USGA guidelines. Measuring 6,584 yards from the championship tees, the most notable characteristic of the course is the enormous greens, some of which exceed 1,000 sq. metres.

The opening nine is the more demanding of the two, with tight tree-lined fairways and a number of water hazards, while the closing stretch is more forgiving, but affords superb views of the famous coastline. Doña Julia has established itself as one of the premier courses along the illustrious Coasta del Sol stretch, and is a beautiful place to enjoy a round of golf.

This course was amazing fairways immaculate and Greens in tip.top condition. Only fault we found was the Bunkers were full of so.e type of grit not Sand making it difficult to get out of some bunkers only had a small covering with a type of muddy clay underneath. Apart from that the day was so good we played again the next day as well. Views from this course were amazing.

Fun layout, nice greens but feels a bit like work in progress. Didn't feel as 'luxurious' as the other courses.
