Dunston Hall
While Dunston Hall is long enough to make highly-skilled players take notice, it is also very playable for golfers of every standard, making it the ideal choice for groups and families looking for a beautiful spot for a golf and leisure break. The 22-bay driving range is the perfect place to warm up or work on a few swing changes.
Dunston Hall's best hole is the demanding par-4 16th, where your approach shot must be well struck to carry the lake that guards the front of the putting surface.
Accommodation at Dunston Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort
The magnificent Elizabethan façade at the end of the grandiose driveway makes visitors aware that they have arrived somewhere very special. Inside the hotel, the 166 bedrooms are made up of a range of standard and family units, in addition to the extravagant suites.
The traditional flavour of the hall can be felt most prominently in the four-poster and the attic rooms, which feature the original oak beamed ceilings. In contrast to the period features in the hotel, all bedrooms have been equipped with the modern facilities and amenities that are required of a good 4-star hotel, including internet access.
The Grade II listed building is without doubt one of the most austere venues not only in the East, but in all of England, making it the perfect choice for a golf break with a bit of old-fashioned class.
Food & Drink
The hotel also offers three dining options, with the Brasserie restaurant serving breakfast in the mornings and dinner from 6.30pm. Alternatively, the Garden Terrace bar and Bunkers Bar offer a range of light meals and drinks throughout the day with stunning views over the hotel gardens and golf course.
Leisure Facilties
Dunston Hall is a perfect retreat for some relaxation, where the health and beauty centre is the place to be pampered, with a range of excellent treatments on offer. For the more active, the hotel is fitted with a swimming pool, aerobic studio and a superbly equipped gym, in addition to the sauna, steam room and whirlpool spa. Wind down in the evening with a few frames of snooker.

The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The hotel was clean and the restaurant food was good.
Our only real concern was the bar opening times. The golfers bar closes at 17:30 unless it’s a Friday/Saturday night. The other hotel bar has last orders at 10:30. 🥴
10 / 10
Bar shut bang on 23:00 both nights. Usually the Q Hotels are open later for residents.
8 / 10
The accommodation was very good but the room I was in was close to the supply and the fan kept waking me as I am a light sleeper
10 / 10
CHeckoing in was quick and easy. The room was very nice inside and had everything needed for a short stay. Very clean room and quiet. The only negatib=ve with the room was a strong musty smell of damp in the bathroom, needed to keep the door closed whilst in the room.
The restaurant areas are very good, the food excellent and reasonably priced for a hotel. The staff in the evenings and at breakfast were very good, excellent service and very pleasant.
8 / 10
Hotel facilities are great. The restaurant has a good menu and the quality of food was excellent for dinner. Remember however, you will spend more than the £32 allowance from the booking.
Hotel room hot (sadly no aircon), other than that the room way comfortable and clean. Like most chain hotels, it’s heading toward needing a refurbishment of the rooms in3 the next 10 years.
2 / 10
Dunston hotel lovely denting but be careful they charge you deposit for room we stay 3 nights 4 days 150 deposit also check you’re food every night and have to sign receipt not impressed but the staff and was very good
6 / 10
Hotel staff good, however no air conditioning in rooms made it a very uncomfortable night
10 / 10
Hotel and golf course was fantastic. The evening meal was really nice, but the breakfast was poor.
8 / 10
Hotel is very good but rooms could do with air-conditioning. Food was a Desent quality.

10 / 10
Excellent rooms are very good. Only very minor complaints would be
A fridge in the room
TV was showing signs of age.
10 / 10
Very friendly staff, good food choice and great golf course. Thanks to the guys in the pro shop who made us two ladies feel very comfortable on the course.
6 / 10
firstly we were not given clear instructions on how to get to our room. We meet 4 other couples on route trying to find their rooms too. ended up going back to reception and asking again. only one bath towel and hand towel in room spent ages getting through to reception and asking for more towels. The plug in the sink did not work so just had to let the water run.
10 / 10
Excellent staff polite and helpful great gol.
10 / 10
Absolutely fantastic
10 / 10
impressive exterior as you approach this venue with adequate parking. efficient check in both at hotel and golf reception. All staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Food was good with prompt dinner service and extensive breakfast buffet. room was comfortably spacious and well equipped for our overnight stay, although it was rather warm in the night and no air con made it a little uncomfortable.
6 / 10
Room good..clean and comfortable. Food poor, evening meal not eaten as lamb not cooked to pink. Breakfast buffet poor and had to be reheated. Bars empty with the exception of the spike bar, which was good.
6 / 10
Extremely overpriced both in the bar and in the restaurant. Alot of the furniture was old, rundown and broken/breaking. In severe need of an update and modernisation along with a review of their pricing structure... Upon arrival we were met with someone who didn't know how to use the booking system. Thankfully this was quickly resolved by Andrea. Restaurant staff incredibly friendly and helpful so no qualms there. My one downer on the whole trip was how much the food and drink costed

Difficult to find my way around the hotel. Rooms on different levels, poor signage. Not high quality
10 / 10
Comfortable room, very clean. Nice food although felt over priced
8 / 10
Room was clean, comfortable and functional although the beds were a lot firmer than expected (obviously personal preference here).
The bar and brasserie were good and the meals ok. The £32 dinner allowance doesn't go far though so be ready for extras on your room bill.
Beware the hotel is 'dog friendly' and we were disturbed by barking from the room next door. Reception said we should have told them and they would have sorted it....
8 / 10
Couldn’t have asked for more than what we was after. Staff were great especially Will in the bunker bar who went the extra mile. The first tee starter (didn’t grab his name) was excellent too.
10 / 10
Beautiful hotel in Beautiful surroundings staff were very helpful the rooms were nice clean and comfy the restaurant food was really nice over all perfect.
10 / 10
Fantastic venue, everything you could want for a golfing weekend away, highly recommend Dunston Hall
8 / 10
Rooms were ok… could have been cleaned better in places… dirty skirting boards etc.
food allowance was not adequate on top of nearly £500 price we each had to pay £40-£60 each on top because allowance did not cover the price of 3 courses
Beer was expensive
8 / 10
Great hotel and facilities.Breakfast was very good. Had a few minor issues when trying to pay the bill. Seemed like only one person was able to process a split bill. Took over 40 minutes on the last day.
6 / 10
Overall good stay , facilities, staff location fantastic. Only thing that let it down was comfort of bed. Long overdue mattress replacement !!
8 / 10
Well managed and efficient, bar prices a bit dear.
10 / 10
Great Stay and Service.
10 / 10
We were given a room in Kellet House, which is not in the main part of the hotel & unlike the room we had when we stayed on a golf break in June, the room was dated, the tiles in the bathroom were dirty & there were no USB sockets for our phones, golf watches & my hearing aid charger. Only 2 electric plug sockets is not enough. However, the beds were comfortable & the golf course was fantastic. The staff were polite & friendly
8 / 10
Easy and efficient check in
Good size room plenty of space for 2 male relatives to share good night sleep
Dinner and service good
Breakfast good plenty of choice
2 of party said pool was nice
Starter on first hole was friendly and reassuring that or group of mixed abilities and age’s was perfectly welcome
Golf shop friendly with good advice

A wonderful setting and we were made to feel special from the time we entered the reception and given our key to discover we had been upgraded to a suite which turned out to be a wonderful treat.Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful and food was excellent.Thank you Dunston Hall for an unforgettable stay despite the rain.We will hopefully return.

Lovely hotel and the facilities were great. Breakfast in the morning has a good selection, the staff are friendly and attentive. The coffee machines could do with an upgrade, they are very slow! Rooms are comfortable.

Hotel massive and initially difficult to locate room, dining room etc
Room comfortable and clean. Much of the hotel cold and needed heating. Food average at best and was not enjoyable.
10 / 10
First ti,e at Dunston Hall, cannot fault a thing. Quality hotel, staff and great golf course
8 / 10
Hotel and facilities all seemed reasonable. Gloss taken off the trip as resolving our bar bill has become impossible - charged wrong room, overcharged for drinks we didn't have and even mis-calculated food bill.
8 / 10
Hotel staff are very friendly and well trained. The family room was a good size and clean. There is no air con but there was a fan in the room.Be aware that the half board there is a limit of £28 per person that is easily exceeded.
10 / 10
One night golf break- Hotel bar admin could have been better- but great location
10 / 10
Great Hotel excellent value for money
8 / 10
the accommodation is getting a bit tired, but is adequate, the restaurant is great and breakfast is good there to.
8 / 10
Booked half board, not advised that half board allows £28 towards a main meal. Whereas Chicken, chips and onion rings is £19. Starters are £8.50. Hotel reception staff were very friendly. Overall a very nice break
8 / 10
This is our fourth stay at Dunston and the first time we have ever been upgraded in all of our travels, so thank you !
The bar prices are higher, but this to be expected at these retreats. Was disappointed to find again the dinner was a different set up and on this occasion we had a budget of £28 to spend on dinner. This may sound a lot but when average main course was around £24 and starters around £10, you know you will be needing to pay more. Would rather the set menu as previous or even better the carvery which was lovely. The most disappointing thing was breakfast. We went down at 9 as not playing golf till after 11, this was a big mistake. No mushrooms, hash browns, bacon or mixed berries left. The lady did apologise and said there would be a delivery later ! No sure how it helped the massive queue who didn’t get a full English. This was really disappointing as it sets you up for the day. We shall return and hope these issues could be addressed as the hotel would know how many they need to cater for on each day. Again thank you for the upgrade it was beautiful.

Cracking weekend had by all
10 / 10
Hotel is really good lovely building rooms are clean and spacious.
Staff all very helpful.
10 / 10
29 golfers played 2 days out of the 3, only 2 managed the last day in the rain! Food good, rooms good lovely break.
6 / 10
The hotel feels dated, we went to the bunkers bar after our golf which was nice and had a snooker table so we decided to go back to this later to have a drink and play snooker only to find when we got back to the bar at 6.30pm it had closed. The main hotel bar was okay but no pool table as it was stated there was.
10 / 10
A great golf break stay & would thoroughly recommend to anyone.Dinner was of excellent quality.Given a £28 p.p allowance & you pay for anything over that which was very fair.Pre-dinner drink expensive but wine at table was good value.Standard room was very good, large & bathroom excellent.Would return for sure.
8 / 10
Very nice Hotel , rooms and bedding excellent, couldn’t fault the staff, I really think they need a secret visitor to check out the food.
My wife and I had lunch on the first day, my wife had a fish finger sandwich which looked awful and had no taste whatsoever, I had a 2 cheese rarebit , well it came as a cheese sandwich, where the bread had been toasted on the outside, and again absolutely tasteless. The evening meal was similar, my confit duck looked as though it was a ready meal which had been reheated. The second evening I ordered the modules marinier, the liquid which should be the best bit was very thin and watery and completely tasteless, the staff were very good in offering me something else on the menu but by then I was comletely disenchanted with the menu , even the apple pie I had the previous evening looked as though it had been bought in, and reheated.
Very disappointing.
8 / 10
Very nice hotel lack of bar staff was frustrating.
8 / 10
Overall good value. Both dinner and breakfast were very good
8 / 10
8 / 10
Rooms comfortable, staff generally helpful, but bar and restaurant a little slow on getting food and drinks out. I will put in a word for the main waitress serving our group, Lara or Laura, who was brilliant.
6 / 10
Lack of choice off beers in Bunker bar as a few had run out.
We had to drink in main hotel bars and did not receive our 10% discount.
Food choice not good as only choice of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 sweets.
6 / 10
Let's start with the good. Food, bar, staff, pool and steam room were excellent.
BUT our break was spoilt by our boiling hot room at the top of the hotel. Spacious enough with one tiny double window with only one opening, facing another building with similar windows. The internal bathroom had no extractor and on entering the bedroom for the first time an old squeaky ceiling fan was in action to little effect. We spent a very uncomfortable night, resulting in little sleep.
Having complained we were provided with two air conditioning units that did alleviate the atmosphere somewhat, but they were too noisy to have on at night, so we tried to sleep in hot, stuffy conditions. We saw other residents being provided with these units also, for the top floor.
The ground and first floor areas felt cool in comparison, but as soon as one started to walk up the stairs to the top, second floor the heat hit!
We understand it is summertime, but daytime temperatures outside last week were pleasant mid 20s centigrade and not excessive. Perhaps the location of the pool and steam room in the basement of our building was a factor, as everyone knows, heat rises. If so, the hotel should address the problem, instead of makeshift, ineffectual short term measures. Are the management and yourselves not concerned about repeat bookings? Also booking this golf break resulted in us staying in the lowest priced rooms presumably, but we would not book this again, which is a shame as we really liked other aspects of the hotel and it's location.
10 / 10
Very nice location beautiful relaxing surroundings well worth a visit
10 / 10
Was a great venue for a boys golf weekend. Was much more upmarket that we expected. Very close to Norwich which is a decent night out!
8 / 10
this is the 2nd of staying at Dunston hall it is great value I only gave 4star for room as there is no fridge only 4star for restaurant as i think they should a daily special on the menu
6 / 10
Unfortunately, I think the hotel is still struggling with staff shortages. There were nowhere near enough staff in the restaurant and the standard of food was awful. Our main course was brought to us before our starter on the first night and the quality of the food was dry and tasteless. The breakfast selection was terrible and items (such as yogurt) were left empty for ages and the eggs were congealed under the heat. The spa staff were good, but we were not impressed by any other staff (except Daniel in the restaurant on the second night). The lady on reception when we checked out was totally disinterested and most of the restaurant staff looked to be about 15 years old and had no knowledge at all. Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone until they sort these issues out.
8 / 10
The Hotel was well presented and Staff pleasant.
The rooms were of a good size ,clean and comfortable and very pleased with that .
The Breakfasts we’re ok but evening meal was poor (I had the low quality meat Pie with Smash potatoes?Fish the following night was better.)
8 / 10
A very enjoyable stay and we would like to say a big thank you to Claire on reception and George in the bunker bar, who looked after very well
8 / 10
Had a fantastic stay everything was good and will be re booking for next year
10 / 10
The hotel in its self was amazing, although the staff were not helpful at all. I found a tooth in the bedside draw and a dress in the wardrobe, I told the ladies on the desk and their reply was ‘ok’.
We also had to wait over an hour for our food.
But all in all, we had a great weekend.
10 / 10
Excellent course, staff very welcoming, food was so lovely & great choice
So we'll be returning soon
Thankyou
Philip

Visually Dunston Hall looks grand, surrounded by acres all well kept land and golf course.
I stayed in room 070, decor and all furnishing to a high standard with a massive 6ft wide bed.
The golf course was enjoyable, and on returning to the Bunkers Bar after golf we were told no food was available because the chef was on holiday. Some guys in our group like a pint of real ale. We were told they were out IPA but Doombar was available.
We purchased some drinks then had to walk over to the main restaurant area to get some food. The following day, after golf were were told the Bunkers Bar had now run out of doombar.
The restaurant served nice food but were told several options on the menu were not available.eg chicken and lamb pies.
We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu, and our preferred choice was not available.
The following morning no hot water was available in our rooms.
To summarise; Dunston Hall provides great facilities but seems badly managed.
My personal choice would be not to return there.
Regards
Vic Wiffen (Re group booking made by Mr J Riches)

Lovely hotel and golf course narrow front 9 a challenge and a long par 5 uphill into wind was tough. Nice variety of jokes. Food / quality nice.
10 / 10
Elizabethan type manor hotel, good accomodation with excellent views over the golf course. Drinks a bit pricey but otherwise very good.
8 / 10
Really enjoyed it. Will definitely go again.
10 / 10
this is a 5 star location and hotel i would go there again
10 / 10
Accommodation very good dinner menu slightly strange and my partner chose hot salmon which should have contained warning about the strength as volume of chillis was extreme she had to get bowl of chips as she found chilli noodles too hot
Breakfast menu excellent
10 / 10
We loved our stay at Dunstan Hall, the golf course is spectacular. Spa facilities wonderful staff exceptional. My only criticism of this trip would have been we were treating our friends who are chefs, as we wanted them to have a couple of nights of à la carte meals but they didn’t have to cook themselves. And because of staff shortages we ended up having cold carvery. Slightly disappointing, but still had a fabulous stay.
8 / 10
A very comfortable and relaxing stay.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The food was plentiful and the carvery dinner offered offered a huge selection to cater for all tastes.
It was excellent value for money.
8 / 10
Hotel stay was very good , but just a couple of points
we had the same option of evening food 2 days running even though the food throughout our stay was very good, would have been better to have a completely different choice for the 2nd night.
Rooms very warm , ventilation inadequate just a noisy ceiling fan.
10 / 10
8 / 10
The hotel was very busy on arrival,we played golf and checked in later.
The room was a bit jaded and worn but everything worked fine.
The evening(Sunday)meal was a carvery,a bit disappointing.
Breakfast next morning was buffet style too,we went down early and the cooked food was tepid and a bit dried up already.
8 / 10
Great setting, lovely for a short getaway, really enjoyed the golf course, will come along again.
Really need to have a few more staff when the restaurant is full and the food was a little pub like.
Staff helpful
8 / 10
Great break, hotel, service and food were excellent. Only small issue was trying to get through their automated phone system to speak to someone before we arrived.
8 / 10
Hotel has been refurbished to a good standard from our visit last year.
Restaurant & bar staff gave excellent service serving limited but tasty food, breakfast was very good.

Great hotel rooms, geared up for society golf and good condition. The stay was excellent from start to finish, staff were really helpful and the food was great. All in all a brilliant stay and everyone else commented on how much they had enjoyed.

Exceeded expectations.... golf great .... food great ... staff always friendly and up for a laugh
100% going back at some point

10 / 10
Very pleasant, staff friendly and comfortable rooms
4 / 10
Hotel nice , golf course in decent condition greens v good pro shop great , golf very slow both days , mostly non golfers out for jolly . Very little etiquette pretty clueless
8 / 10
Staff were exceptionally good. Polite, helpful and approachable. Absolutely no complaints about staff.
I was responsible for a group of 22 golfers and 5 non golfers and I only heard one grumble which was to do with the swimming pool area where on 2 days running the time switch hadn't been reactivated in the sauna which meant it was cold at 3.30pm in the afternoon.
8 / 10
Superb old building, loads of character. Excellent staff, very good food, a superb venue
10 / 10
Excellent stay enjoyed the whole experience, looking forward to a further visit later in the year. Highly recommend.
8 / 10
Excellent venue facilities and accommodation first class Food very average could benefit from an up market ala carte menu to grace the ambience and grandness of the buildings
10 / 10
Very impressed with the hotel. Food was a good mix and of a high quality.
8 / 10
Excellent value. Very helpful staff
6 / 10
The stay at Dunstan Hall was unfortunately impacted by Covid and a bad breakfast!
We were due to tee off at 3pm on Saturday, with the plan to use the spa, pool and gym on Saturday morning/afternoon, however, upon arrival (Friday) we were told that the showers were not in use and no changing rooms were available.
So we could use the gym (only for 45 minutes), but would have to change in the toilets without the use of the showers afterwards.
So unfortunately we had to sit for 4 hours whilst we waited for our tee time to arrive.
The breakfast 'buffet' was served (but not table service), so we had to queue whilst the buffet ran out of eggs, beans, hash browns, pretty much everything.
Eggs did arrive but were half cooked and full of shells. The waitress did very kindly bring some beans to our table to save us queuing any longer.
To be fair to the staff, they were very friendly/helpful, and I hope the service they are allowed to provide can get back to normal post covid.

All 5 star, all the staff at Dunston hall where very helpful, Food, room, bars and restaurants all very nice
8 / 10
Hotel was very nice, location and surroundings good. Unfortunately the course was extremely wet and difficult to play. No buggies allowed which didn’t help, will possibly try going again next summer when hopefully it will be drier.
6 / 10
The hotel is very well equipped and spacious. The rooms are huge and well appointed. The decor is looking a little bit old but it is well maintained.
8 / 10
The hotel is a nice setting rooms were large and clean food was excellent and the spa was good too
8 / 10
Very happy this the golfing break we had. Considering the restriction caused by Corvid-19 the hotel felt safe, found all the staff both in the hotel and pro-shop friendly and well organised. Both the evening meal and the breakfast were fine. With some member take use of the spar.
8 / 10
Despite the wet weather over the weekend we had a nice overall stay at this beautiful historic building. The Leisure facilities were very good and the standard of food very good. Also the bedroom and en-suite bathroom had been upgraded and modernised.
8 / 10
Good value for money, rooms comfortable but ours was opposite laundry room which was far from perfect. Staff v helpful, dinner was OK but breakfast was poor. Bar prices higher than expected. Rain stopped us playing golf so cannot comment.
8 / 10
The venue was easy to find and very impressive looking.
We were met in the Golf (Bunker)bar to (group) book in & fill in test & trace forms.
Rooms were spacious & comfortable if a little tired looking.
The restaurant coped well considering the covid situation, breakfast & evening meals were very good although portions were a little on the small side.
The Bunker bar in the evening (up to 10pm)was ideal for our group size, the staff were friendly and hard working.
8 / 10
Very comfortable golf break accommodation
8 / 10
Large comfortable room but difficult to keep cool. Must have even worse during the really hot spells earlier in the year. Bit of a problem with which menu we were on but sorted out amicably. Very rambling building with long walk to hotel bar and restaurant. We’re able to do check in paperwork on arrival then just pick up key when finished golf.
10 / 10
Hotel accomodation and food were excellent and the staff were the most helpful that we have had for any of our breaks.
8 / 10
Very enjoyable nice bar pleasant staff food was ok to be fair the carvery was not to our taste but overall would go back
8 / 10
Everything was really nice
10 / 10
All of the Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Accommodation was very good and considering that there was 18 people in the group the dining arrangements were handled very efficiently.
Would highly recommend Dunston Hall ,and of course Your Golf Travel who make it all so easy for any person who is responsible for organising a golf trip.
8 / 10
Lovely Hotel ,rooms, facilities and staff very good. Only concern was that we were booked on B,B and evening meal. When we arrived we found that the evening meal was £28 towards Al a carte menu. Same menu each night and all rich food which seemed to focus more on display than balance of ingredients. There should be one plain dish each evening.
10 / 10
This was a return visit to Dunston and it lived up to last time. Love s the course ... room was very comfortable and immaculate. The food was excellent liked the new carvery arrangement where your meal is delivered to you from a wide choice. Can’t wait to go back !

Great value for money
8 / 10
Good food and service in well appointed rooms. Personally I do not like buffet carveries but there were alternatives on a la carte.
The room we stayed in was large and little things like water in the room make it a lovely place to stay.
8 / 10
Very nice hotel, very comfortable and good food. Only real reservation is the limited number of things to do if you aren’t a golfer
10 / 10
The whole weekend was nothing short of excellent. We played Wensum Valley, Barnham Broom and played and stayed at Dunston Hall. All three courses were in very good shape and had recovered well from the drought this summer. Our party of 25 persons all agreed that the whole experience was such that they all want to go back again.
