Dunston Hall

While Dunston Hall is long enough to make highly-skilled players take notice, it is also very playable for golfers of every standard, making it the ideal choice for groups and families looking for a beautiful spot for a golf and leisure break. The 22-bay driving range is the perfect place to warm up or work on a few swing changes.

Dunston Hall's best hole is the demanding par-4 16th, where your approach shot must be well struck to carry the lake that guards the front of the putting surface.

Accommodation at Dunston Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

The magnificent Elizabethan façade at the end of the grandiose driveway makes visitors aware that they have arrived somewhere very special. Inside the hotel, the 166 bedrooms are made up of a range of standard and family units, in addition to the extravagant suites.

The traditional flavour of the hall can be felt most prominently in the four-poster and the attic rooms, which feature the original oak beamed ceilings. In contrast to the period features in the hotel, all bedrooms have been equipped with the modern facilities and amenities that are required of a good 4-star hotel, including internet access.

The Grade II listed building is without doubt one of the most austere venues not only in the East, but in all of England, making it the perfect choice for a golf break with a bit of old-fashioned class.

Food & Drink

The hotel also offers three dining options, with the Brasserie restaurant serving breakfast in the mornings and dinner from 6.30pm. Alternatively, the Garden Terrace bar and Bunkers Bar offer a range of light meals and drinks throughout the day with stunning views over the hotel gardens and golf course.

Leisure Facilties

Dunston Hall is a perfect retreat for some relaxation, where the health and beauty centre is the place to be pampered, with a range of excellent treatments on offer. For the more active, the hotel is fitted with a swimming pool, aerobic studio and a superbly equipped gym, in addition to the sauna, steam room and whirlpool spa. Wind down in the evening with a few frames of snooker.

Overall, it was ok. We were disappointed that the sports bar closed at half 8 and we could not watch the world cup, and the hotel bar was open till midnight but no world cup. It was also limited on the friday night also.

Honestly the best trip we’ve had so far. The hotel was lovely, staff fantastic, set up is really nice. Quality of bars I’ve only given a 4 star as they ran out of cider bottles on the Saturday and hadn’t managed to get any for our last day (first world problems) Apart from that superb

An enjoyable stay at the hotel, with comfortable rooms, friendly staff and a good breakfast. The service on arrival could have been better, as the Bunkers Bar was understaffed and getting coffee and/or rolls took longer than it should. We were staying for 2 nights on a (good value) dinner, B&B basis and had to pre-order for dinners. The forms to be completed were however not distributed until 10 minutes before our first tee time - which made it rather stressful (particularly as wr had been there for nearly 2 hours atthat point). A bit more thought about the arrival of a large group (of 31 golfers) would have made the experience a lot easier for everyone (guests and hotel staff!).

Great hotel, good bars, food was average but very pricey. The hotel was good value for money but the food was poor value for the money. Good facilities. A great place to stay but find a good local restaurant to eat at.

We’ve had a very hot and dry spell so it’s a bit of an unfair time to rate the course conditions as naturally the fairways were parched and the ball bounced hard. Nevertheless the greens were in excellent condition and most of the tees weren’t too bad either. Perhaps the areas around the greens could have done with a little more watering but that’s being ultra critical. It’s a lovely course with some exceptionally attractive holes. It’s narrow but not unfairly so and the ‘stroke-index-1’ hole (16th I think?) is one of the best laid out holes you’ll find anywhere.

Fairways really bad as petered lies were used because of the lack of water on the fairway. Tees were poor as well. Took nearly 5 hours to play, not enough ball cleaners,

Course was in good condition overall with a few barren places. Staff were friendly. It was 32 degrees and I was disappointed that not more staff were going round with drinks and the lack of a half way hut.

Course was in great condition considering we had just had a really dry spell

The course was in great condition, greens were true and relatively quick. Some great, testing holes and some really cool par 3’s to get stuck into. Tee boxes could have been slightly better but above all fantastic

Tuesday the weather beat us over 30c not much you can do about that Wednesday morning cooler we all played well there could have been a bit more grass in parts but probably weather related problem Had a great time

An inteteresting and occasionally challenging course, with a nice variety of holes in a very scenic setting. Lots of trees to try to avoid! The course was set up well and the bunkers and greens were in good condition. Some of the fairways were very dry and finding a grassy lie was difficult on a number of holes. We decided to implement a preferred lies approach for our second round, which made it easier and fairer. Overall though, the feedback was mostly positive and the majority of our group thought it was an enjoyable course to play on.

Only the tee boxes needed attention. The greens were fabulous. Fairways need help and should have placings.

A challenging course with good greens and very good facilities. The fairways were very poor condition for May but there hasn’t been that much rain.

Good course. Very compact and narrow in place to give some challenging holes.
