Established in 1909, Fontainebleau is one of France's oldest courses and it's a brilliant option if you like your golf traditional, strategic and a little bit different.
Although it's inland, the course sits on sandy, free-draining ground, so you often get that firm, fast feel you'd normally associate with classic English heathland. Think ball running out in the fairways, plenty of decisions from the tee and approach shots where landing it in the right section matters more than simply firing at the flag.
You'll weave through mature woodland and open clearings, with holes that reward placement over power. The greens are subtle and can be quick, so leaving yourself the right angle in is half the battle. When there's a breeze, you'll really notice it, especially on the more exposed stretches where the ball can scoot along once it hits the turf.
One thing to note, buggies are not available but electric & pull trolleys are, so you'll be walking. Most golfers find that's part of the charm here and it suits the pace of a proper round in the forest.
If you're planning a Paris golf break, Fontainebleau is an easy win for a classic day out away from the resort scene. Speak to our team about tee times and building it into your trip.
