The Gut Larchenhof is among a select band of golfing venues in continental Europe to boast a signature Jack Nicklaus designed course. The course was an instant in 1996 when it opened, a fact underlined by the selection of Gut Larchenhof as the host of the prestigious German Masters.
Gut Larchenhof
In 1997, the tournament moved from Berlin's Motzener See, and Gut Larchenhof has been so well received that the championship will continue in place until at least 2009.
The golf course is very much a reflection of the advancements made in construction techniques in recent decades; thousands of tonnes of earth were shifted to realise the Golden Bear's vision. This is not golf for the purists out there, but fans of stadium courses will be in awe.
The short holes are long, and from the championship tees, this is a fearsome test of golf. Firmly established at the sharp end of German championship golf, Gut Larchenhof is a modern marvel, and one that should be high on the list of Europe's ‘must plays'.
