Hawkstone Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club

Great building and happy with rooms. Some staff were lovely and attentive. The food was well presented and tasty. The restaurant itself was cold due to external doors being left open and no staff members spotting and correcting this even after request. So we closed doors ourselves 6 times, but this did make our meal go cold and we moved tables which didn’t really help. Breakfast was very basic. So an average pleasant stay. Not entirely sure it was worth its price tag as left a bit to be desired.

Stayed as part of a group golf break. Our rooms were in the motel part of the hotel, but only a few mins walk from reception. Rooms themselves had decent beds and clean and some refurbishment of bathrooms had obviously been done TV included in the room with access to the main sky sports channel which was a bonus the main hotel with reception, bar and dining room all seem to be pretty new and was very comfortable. The bar was somewhat limited in its range of beers and had a hard close time of 11 pm which was a shame for residents. The bar and facilities in the golf club were good but did not remain open in the evenings unless large groups were staying. Hotel had no spa or other facilities available. Overall pretty decent for a Golf breaks group not one to booking to if couples with partners are looking for these facilities.

Accommodation is basic but comfortable.

Repeat visit for the last few years and always enjoyable. Both courses are a great test of golf and offer a different golf experience. Hotel rooms are small and tired but acceptable. Staff weren’t as attentive as previous years but again, acceptable.

I have been on many golf breaks and this rates as one of the best. The quality of the food was superb the staff very friendly and the accommodation great. The 2 courses were dry but the greens were in excellent condition.

I was pleasantly suprised with the hotel considering some of the negative reviews I have read. Although the hotel may appear dated from the exterior the interior was modern and welcoming.

The hotel is very professional in the way it handles all golfers. There are plenty of very pleasant bar staff meaning you don’t have to wait to be served despite the hotel being full. The food at both the evening meal and breakfast was of a very high standard

The group were left with mixed feelings following this weekends golf. The courses themselves were excellent and would certainly be a reason to return. However, the facilities were a let down. Not enough staff, early closing of the bar facilities and a general feeling of "its too much trouble" was the feedback I received. Rooms were clean and tidy and not an issue and the food when served was good. Needs some TLC and only 3 of our group of 36 said they would want to return. Some.of the drinks prices through the night were creative to say the least. This will be our last visit to Hawkstone unfortunately.

Very well appointed rooms, friendly staff, nice meals (breakfast especially good), only downside was the Spike bar closing early so when we came off the course just before 6, we only had time for 1 quick beer overlooking the course

Was put in room at the back of the restaurant was small with no air conditioning and no ventilation where their was two off 12 seated tables in the restaurant that was air conditioned that was not used on the Friday or Saturday evening on the Saturday evening we sat outside to have our pudding. Two of our party were ill from the mushroom main course that spoilt it for them very disappointed 🥵🥵

Food and bar facilities were pretty good for the money we paid although £7.20 per pint was a bit steep. Bar/restaurant/reception/pro shop staff all very friendly and welcoming. Rooms looked newly refurbished however I wonder how they will look in a few months as the old building seems like it’s started causing a little damp and the windows look like they could do with upgrading but this in no way took anything away from our trip. Our Monday tee time coincides with ladies day at the club and they were not the most welcoming to say the least but again this didn’t detract from our stay. Overall we had a fabulous trip and the price we paid I felt was great value for money. I would definitely recommend this deal although don’t expect the Ritz.

Don't believe the previous reviews. We stayed on the 20th june, the rooms were very clean, almost brand new looking, they were on the small side but fir a golf Break, Absolutely perfect. Beds and showers were spot on. Would definitely recommend.

A great value for money golf trip. The courses, hotel and venue are ideal. The staff were very welcoming and provide assistance when requested and the quality of meals were very good especially when you Compere the prices to other golf hotels.

Rooms were very dated and very cramped. Evening meal in the hotel was very poor. Staff were blunt and rude.

Could not fault our stay at Hawkstone . Staff were more than helpful.Breakfast top quality and evening meals are A la Carte standard. Bar meals are really good also.

Stayed in a suite room which was comfortable overall. Two single beds to standard size. The suite itself has a slightly strange layout in that the living room area is enormous and the bedroom is quite small. The ensuite bathroom is also quite small and the shower is tight. However, the room is extremely clean upon check-in. The food offering is pretty average. Many descriptions do not describe the food that is delivered. Simple example is the menu states that burgers come in a brioche bun but just a standard bread roll arrived. Further Lincoln sausages are not as described but just economy sausages. Previous reviews to notice that things are done on a budget which I would agree with although in the current climate for hospitality, I’m not surprised. Some of the staff for cheerful and helpful although others seem to have forgotten the whole idea of hospitality and we were not exactly warm, friendly or smiling. Overall, I was happy with the hotel for the budget and would not exactly expect an offer a lot more, although smiles and welcoming staff don’t exactly break the bank.

Lovely helpful staff. Comfortable rooms

Everything was very much enjoyed by our party of 21, All rooms as booked, Dinner was excellent and Breakfast was superb. To be able to have the whole party thoroughly satisfied was the greatest compliment we could give, Thank You Hawkstone we will definitely be returning.

Hotel was excellent overall. Room was comfortable but the lack of air conditioning meant it was a bit warm.

Rooms were excellent, the food is the restaurant was amazing. All staff were friendly. Lyles Bar and the building at the end of the 18th was the only disappointment. The building at the end of 18th looks to have been closed sometime. Lyles Bar was also closed in the evening, however the hotel was very quiet.

Very nice resort, rooms spacious and clean

The facilities are good but the bathrooms still have too much black mould and several areas are tired and poorly kept. Overall the food is terrible, the same menu for years and years, pre made or frozen meals, the worst fish I've ever had and not for the first time. The sandwiches at the spike bar are so poor and dreadfully over priced, most of the staff seem like they couldn't care less. The courses are great, the facilities are mostly great but someone needs to have a seriously conversation about the whole catering setup. I won't go again if it stays the same. I would happily give this feedback and discuss it with them directly. It seems such a shame when other venues can do it so much better.

Hotel location is excellent for golf. Comfortable rooms and reasonable menu. Check in was a bit chaotic as they had given keys for rooms to the wrong people

Comfortable, clean & welcoming

Our twin room was spacious and comfortable. However as thus is quite an old building we did hear significant noise from the room above. This was also true for others in our party.

Fabulous stay, two great courses, food was spot on, room was decent, if a little small, but perfect for our needs. Would definitely go back and will certainly recommend.

Good location as within 2 hours of home in a nice part of the country. Hotel looked a bit tired and no leisure facilities but food and service was good.

Enjoyed whole experience with 32 ladies. However the food was not up to last years standards. Everyone who had roast beef, left most of it as it was so tough it was inedible. Sorry, that's only complaint but spoilt our normal wonderful experience.

Excellent resort , lovely new clubhouse and facilities . We were fortunate to get the hottest days this year so maybe a little more air con would have helped but that is being picky in an otherwise excellent venue . Well organised at meal times and quality food . No complaints from our party of 18

Staff worked hard and were mostly very personable. Room was good size and did the job. Meal was pretty awful.

Nice and clean and great value

From start to finish of our two rounds of golf and overnight stay, everything was well organised. The staff were friendly and engaging.

Hotel check in process was efficient and friendly. We arrived at 10.30am for 12.00 and 12.10 tee off, so obviously couldn't check in to rooms, but we filled in paper check in form and menu requirements for evening meal so everything was ready after golf was over.

Negatives first ) Arrived to find the updated rooming list had not been updated so lots of confusion for my group not sure if this was there fault or YGT. We were booked for 2 rounds on Hawkstone & 1 on championship so more confusion early in the morning. The course options didn't mater as they were both great but I spent a lot of time tracking people down to let them know swapping our nearest the pins ect instead of enjoying breakfast .

Had a fabulous weekend at Hawkstone even though the weather was not to kind to us on the Saturday. The breakfast and the evening dining was first class. Just one concern . The bar prices were a bit on the dear side .

This is a great golf break venue in a beautiful location which I have visited many times over the years. The improvements to the rooms and bars are very good. Also the restaurant food which is geared for golfing groups is good quality and tasty. Could do with cleaning the bedroom windows though!!

Booked rooms in main hotel building but when we arrived our rooms allocated to us were in the courtyard instead which wasn't what we asked for,on returning to reception I was told there was no rooms available and also no notes on the system to say we wanted to be in the main hotel. I requested a king-size double and was given a twin. Food was excellent but staff need a lesson in how to welcome customers. No one seemed to know good manners including the staff in the Pro shop

Very enjoyable could do with a swimming pool

The hotel has been upgraded and refurbished since the last time we were there. Rooms and bar area are now more modern with a large spike bar for the golfers. Food was very good.

Hotel was ok...staff very good

The room was comfortable, convenient and well appointed. We were looked after really well by the staff throughout our stay and they were particularly helpful with our dinner arrangements.

We were going to check for taking a large group of ladies next year . The rooms were so small and basic . Approach to the rooms were up a grubby metal staircase, which didn’t give a good feel .only confirmed when you opened the door to the room . Obviously we will not be going next year.

Hotels a bit tired, needs a refresh.

I visited purely for 2 rounds of golf but really enjoyed my stay! Check in was straightforward and we were given our meal options for the evening which was unusual but worked a treat later as the chosen food arrived with a good service in the restaurant. The room was fine, Clean and not noisy at night! Breakfast the next morning was self service Full English with cereals, Fruit and juices/Coffee/Tea. Happy with my choice as this Hotel give me all I required!

Fantastic place to stay. All 4 of us were well looked after. Staying on the course is a great advantage.

The rooms are clean and functional. The food was acceptable however the staff told us the General Manager is focused on cost and breakfast was poor quality produce and a number of us had soup as part of the evening meal and the GM had prohibited bread rolls , this smacks of penny pinching and reflects poorly on the hotel.

Staff all very helpful and friendly, food in bar area of wood quality. Evening buffet meal was a little poor due to having to wait for several items to be replenished. Bar area good. Hotel would clearly benefit from a pool/ spa to move it to the next level.

Tiny twin room for 2 people. Evening food good but breakfast very limited.

Staff were lovely. Room was very small for a twin and seemed to have paper thin walls and ceiling. We were kept awake by normal level talking in the room above. No facilities outside of the golf. Breakfast was adequate. at the bar, the IPA pump ran out on early friday evening and was still unavailable on Saturday night (despite it being sold in the golf bar). Dinner was a bit 'meat and two veg' but was cooked well and tasted good.

Spent an excellent three nights at this hotel. The staff were excellent, friendly and happy to help. The rooms are good sized, clean and comfortable.

Rooms were good and comfortable, though windows were in need of replacing. Food and staff were excellent, though it helped that we 4 made up over half of the guests on the first night!

The only reason we (Golf Society group of 7) didn’t provide 5 stars for all categories is that a function at the end of the bedroom wing played loud music until midnight so several of our group couldn’t get to sleep, but the staff were lovely, service great and rooms of high standard

The room was really good. The hotel closed a bar with a pool table and darts board. Leaving nothing to do. The food was served with fries not chunky chips as described on the menu. The steak was very fatty. There was some fries still under the table on the floor at breakfast. Obviously not cleaned up from night before. The service wasn’t good at all.

Room both roomy and clean. Only stayed overnight and played golf on arrival and departure days. Well looked after. Course was wet underfoot so played only on drier course, the Hawkstone. Buggies not allowed on either course, either day

This was our 3rd stay at the hotel.he choice and quality of evening meals and the overall service was very good. The breakfast service was also much better than on our last occasion. Our double bedded room was very comfortable.

The spacious twin room was really comfortable. It would have added the extra tick if a spa facility was on site, which I believe is planned.

Friendly & very well organized. Rooms have been refurbished. We were initially given a room which was slightly smaller than the others with an upstairs bathroom but when we asked for a change they did this with no problem. Meals were good & served on time. Staff were friendly.

Near perfect, friendly staff and very accommodating

We had a deluxe room overlooking the golf course which was lovely, the food was plentiful but we thought catered more for men, massive portions and limited choices at breakfast. No fresh fruit etc but everything looked fresh and well cooked.

We were happy overall with our stay, however our bedroom was not up to the standard we expected. The room was small with limited storage space and there was only one chair in the double room. The room was also extremely hot (they can’t control the weather) and the walls seemed paper thin resulting in us hearing noise from the adjoining rooms. We weren’t in the main hotel but in an adjoining annex.

Comfortable & clean, Difficulty opening sash windows as the frames were rotten and some glass cracked.Had to prop open with a book.

Hawkstone Park is very well managed, check in was completed before play for our 1st round and just left keys to be collected afterwards. We had a problem with our shower not working but this was resolved the next day and we were given use of another room in the meantime. The lady on reception was brilliant.

Nice Hotel

The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful and accomodating.The food in the restaurant was very good.

We stayed in a Suite but is was rather shabby and the shower was awful. Hardly any water came out and it kept increasing / decreasing the temperature from 23 to 48. Our balcony door was broken. the staff were very friendly. We stayed for 3 nights and the only menu change was the vegetarian option and the desserts. However, they did cater for me being a Coeliac for which I am very grateful. The hotel decor lets the place down.

Only complaint was rooms too warm and no aircon. Staff great and friendly and helpful. 1 room changed due to musty smell. Changed immediately and no problem

The accommodation was first class and the staff polite and helpful.

2nd year at Hawkstone. The staff and food were excellent. The hotel and clubhouse areas were modern, spotlessly clean and roomy. Our rooms were in the main hotel and were ideal for our stay, in terms of size and location. They were also spotlessly clean. The only disappointment was the cost of beverages. Overall though we really enjoyed our stay and will return next year.

Went like clockwork, breakfast seemed a little bit disorganised, the restaurant seemed short of staff tbh. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Exceptional location, lovely clean rooms. Food was superb. Drinks a little on the high side. Most disappointing factor was poorly keep facilities around both bars. Toilets were in the same condition when we arrived on the Friday as they were when we checked out - no soap, overflowing bins.

How can you refurbish a room and ignore the bathroom, chipped enamel in bath and window rusty and paint peeling off frames, as was wallpaper near window, quite unacceptable after what I paid, for a Birthday treat for my friend! Seems like false economy! As you know the rooms aren’t cheap, neither is upgrading to superior! Prices in Spike Bar are extortionate, nearly £10 for a burnt ham and cheese toasty after our game yesterday! Evening meal was excellent, as were the staff, can’t fault them it or them!

Enjoyed our stay at Hawkstone which was exactly what we needed for our golfing break for our party of 32 players.

Room a little basic & dated but it was all we needed to rest our heads as we spent little time in our room.Felt the prices for drinks rather expensive. Staff generally good but some were far more engaging than others. I did email prior to arriving for a pack up breakfast as we had to leave @6am - this was very poor - I did expect something like a croissant, peice of fruit & orange juice. Sorry if all this seems negative but want to give you something that can help make improvements.

We paid for Dinner bed and breakfast; but was told on reception that our dinner wasn't included; as I didn't bring the paperwork with me couldn't argue; once I have returned home the paperwork clearly stated with Dinner

The rooms were modern and clean but some were a little on the small side. I had asked Your Golf Travel to note to the hotel that we wanted 7 twin rooms on the ground floor due to a number of our ladies being in their 70's and 80's and have difficulty with stairs but when we got there the hotel had no notes about this and we were on the 3rd floor up many stairs and one of our ladies luckily got a room on the ground floor but the hotel was full so no one could move if they needed to. It's not the hotel's fault but Your Golf Travel for not passing my message on when I booked it last year. The food was excellent and all the ladies commented that it was the best food they had had on a golfing weekend in many years. Darren the Bar Manager and all the staff couldn't do enough for our party and were very helpful and seemed to care that we had a great experience.

Beautiful bedroom but found bathroom a squeeze . However this won’t stop us from visiting again we had a fabulous time. The staff were all great the food fabulous the two golf courses pristine.

Lovely all round!

Rooms are just average but fine Very strange that the golf bar with sky sports, pool table, darts board ect was shut at 6.30pm as we came off the course. Hotel bar was ok fairly expensive but expected, the food was the highlight there was 18 of us and all of us thought the evening meal and breakfast was good. Both courses were very good. Overall for what we paid we thought it was good value for money and would recommend for a group who want a night away to play decent golf courses without costing a fortune.

Lovey time at Hawkstone Park. Great facilities. Hotel has been refurbished. Dining and lounger area very nice.

Accommodation was really good, plenty of bar & restaurant staff, great breakfast & good dinner choice. Pro shop was a little strange, it seemed low on staff on occasions, but we got there ion the end. Bar prices are minty due to being captured in the middle of nowhere. But overall the venue was fantastic.

The hotel and general facilities has has a massive investment since I last visited Hawkstone Park. All I can say is that everything was excellent. I would recommend a visit to all those who have not visited the complex.

Room was small but adequate for what we needed. Beds were comfortable, however, the electric shower in my room was found to be wanting.

Hotel very tired in need of some upgrades. Room very small kettle not working party taken place in the room next door until 6am no sleep. Staff could not find our reservation on arrival. £45 for bottle of wine food average. Would No recommend very disappointed.

The quality of the evening meal and the breakfast was 2nd to none. Absolute pleasure to stay here.

The hotel was fantastic in terms of cleanliness and character. The staff were attentive and polite. One thing I would say, it's pricey at the bars and clubhouse. Drinks and food are well over the norm' in price. That would be my only criticism. Otherwise, enjoyed the stay, and the party I was with said exactly the same.

Excellent stay, food & staff were very good.

A warm welcome from the staff at reception, Lyles bar were also friendly and catered well to our needs. Had pre- ordered our lunch on arrival day, that was excellent. Dinner in the evening was served by lovely staff and the choice of menu and quality of food was very good. Rooms were small, our shower didn’t work so reported it to reception. That evening after dinner they told us it was fixed but the following morning still no water for showering. Had an issue with cleanliness as we spectated the beds we found dirty underwear which as the hotel had only been open for 3 weeks must have been there from the previous season. This was reported at reception and we were told after dinner that it had been removed. Have given the 4stars purely for the friendliness of staff and the quality of the food but not for the cleaning.

The radiator in the room wasn't working so reception provided me with a fan heater. Food was excellent. Bar prices were usurious.

The staff were great and more than willing to help where possible, but the main bar with tele, pool table etc shut at 7:30 so after dinner we was left on the tables we eat dinner at, which is located next to where they have wedding parties, the wedding guests were not happy with having a load of golfers mingling amounts them, rooms were fine for what you need however the bathrooms were full of mould ceilings falling down and the baths filled up whilst having showers, my room mate had to wait around 30 minutes for it to eventually drain so he could shower, could do with a bit of TLC

three exceptional members of staff made this trip fantastic 1. Receptionist on Sunday afternoon/evening - nothing too much trouble 2. lady in the club bar 3. Toast lady in restaurant - really looked after my party

The hotel is located in such beautiful surroundings. The staff were very welcoming at reception with pre-order & check in being very smooth and easy. The food was very tasty and all came out in a reasonable amount time especially considering the size of the group. The only negatives was that the clubhouse closed early which is a shame as it had a pool table and dart board in there. Also, the beds in the room were tiny. They felt smaller than a single but fine for one night stay.

2 Great golf courses (even in torrential rain) and the greens and fairways were in brilliant condition. Staff at the hotel and golf club were superb. Only issue for our group was trying to get to Shrewsbury for a night out....would recommend you precooked cabs as can be a real pain.

Very much a golf hotel. Covers the basics quite well, if exterior presents a little dated and tired. Dinner and breakfast are great, loads of food, room clean and comfortable. Lacks facilities other than golf and bar.

As a group of 16 we were all put in the annexe rooms of which some overlooked the 1st tee on the Hawkstone course … the rooms were comfortable enough but the windows need some serious attention , the frames internally need a clean and don’t look as tho they’ve been painted in 20 years. Dinner was ok .. but the breakfast was a massive disappointment… buffet 7.30 - 9.30 breakfast ….on our arrival in the restaurant at approximately 8.30 the was no bacon out no hash browns no eggs of any description and about half a dozen beans …. The coffee machine wasn’t working and the coffee and hot water dispensers were empty ….. to have everything run out all at once and not replenished straight away was I thought a bit shambolic …. Seemed as tho there was not enough staff on which needs addressing in my opinion…

Room ok for a golf trip👍

Hotel very good. Rooms clean and tidy. Staff very helpful and service in bars and restaurant was excellent. Only shame was one lad got covid the Tuesday before we went and lost all his money as could not get any refund.

Most enjoyable

I was fortunate enough to have a superior room which was excellent, well presented and very clean. Some of the others in my party of 12 had Court Yard rooms and all spoke highly of them.

My single room was tiny & very hot although they did bring a fan. Didn’t think it was worth the extra money for a single. Food was ok not brilliant & breakfast was chaotic. No toaster & we spent a Lot of time walking around to find what we wanted. They were short of staff. We were rushed into dinner because we played so late & one buggy broke down so we had to wait for them but I think the Chef wanted to go home! Would go again because of the golf not because of the hotel. I was last here a few years ago & the hotel has changed from being comfortable to corporate & money making.

young inexperienced staff, electricity in our room tripped overnight, security guard very helpful- mugs of hot water, charged up golf GPS at reception. BUT although room large and refurbished, it was not that clean, torn curtains, dirty ashtray and leaves on patio outside, windows dirty - spider and web in the room, brickwork outside crumbling. sounded like it was a 'problem' to order porridge. small boxes of concentrate orange juice and some bananas the only fruit at breakfast. not 4 star.

We have stayed here a number of times over the years but this time the refurbishment of the hotel room and restaurant facilities were exceptional.

On arrival was a bit disappointed in the look of the hotel paint was flaking of the walls at the sides and at the front,also the pavilion or building buy the 18th green is actually not being used at all which seems a shame as would be spot on for the 19th hole.The rooms were presented ok but a little on the small side. The food was excellent not a fault wrong their the staff at the bars seem to be slow and only one till was working. The pro shop was very disappointing not a lot there to buy. The 2 golf courses though were outstanding and greens were every fast

Very nice destination for a golf break two beautiful golf courses especially the championship course. The food was superb and staff were very polite and friendly. Very busy place, bar prices not very friendly but overall a very pleasant stay.

The hotel has had a modernisation and the new reception, restaurant and bar area worked well. The bedroom was large and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner very good. The spike bar was basic but welcome after a round. Driving range and putting greens were good. They only have 20 buggies for each course and we’re fully booked. It would have been useful to know that they normally need 3 weeks notice to guarantee a buggy. There were no starters or Marshalls on the course but everything ran smoothly.

We paid a little extra for a premier room which was well worth the money as it gave us plenty of space. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Clean & tidy rooms. The new bar & restaurant are very modern and perfect for a golf break. The staff provided great, friendly service. A great resort.

We and our two partners love Hawkstone. Such value for money, brilliant course, lovely food and comfy beds at the end of the day. What could be better?

8 old codgers gathered to celebrate big birthdays for Bill May and Jim Smith on a Hawkstone Golf Break. They had a fabulous time and rated food, accommodation and service 5 star. An excellent stay overall. The hotel really is lovely and in a gorgeous setting. The only blip was that on our first night the room(208), being over the bar area was very noisy. I was told there was a wedding reception taking place.

I've been going to Hawkstone Park for decades and it is a great golfing venue. The two courses are very different, the Championship being largely flat but with lovely trees (maybe a bit too much water !!), and the Hawkstone has great vistas and fantastic holes sweeping down wonderful glacial valleys. And the hotel has excellent rooms, really good food and very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing not to like about the venue, excellent value and I just love going there.

Upgraded rooms great size - staff were friendly and helpful. New clubhouse has a large bar whilst the main hotel has a smaller bar that can get busy.

The last time I was at Hawkestone was approximately 12 years ago and the hotel has been massively improved since then. The meals were exceptional which made the stay a quality experience.

Having stayed and played at a variety of courses, Hawkstone Park is easily amongst the best. It is set up for Golfers and delivers 2 very fine and interesting courses and overnight accommodation at a reasonable cost. It is very easy to recommend. Our group intends to return next year.

We had a very relaxing stay, hotel was very nice, rooms were comfortable and food was fantastic. The only downside was the price of the drinks,nearly £14 for 2 pints of beer/lager.

Rooms were comfortable enough for two golfers sharing. Though limited in choice, food was excellent and staff were also very attentive and accommodating of requests, including switching meal times. Good choice of drinks in the two bars albeit very expensive, but given value of the overall stay then nobody complained. Not much in the way of evening entertainment (Lyle's bar with pool and darts shuts early) but main bar area is comfy with nice atmosphere.

The hotel room was comfortable and we had everything we needed. Reception were helpful and friendly The 1792 bar located adjacent to the hotel is modern with good facilities but does not stay open long enough for you to enjoy the facilities after golf The price for drinks is extortionate The facilities in the hotel are modern, the dining facilities and food were very good but we were delayed by an hour and fifteen minutes.

We asked to change our room fro one with a walk in shower (over the bath showers are difficult for my wife). the room we3 got was quite small. It was very noisy during the night from water continually running down a large pipe in the bathroom, obviously draining water from upstairs. Also noise from machines (washing/dryers) running most of the night. The bathroom needs curtains or blinds as stairs run past the window making privacy non-existent.

Hotel bar not open till 6pm but excellent staff ensured we were served. Dinner good but breakfast buffet a little disappointing - cold bacon. Very overpriced beer - cheaper in central London! Little else to do - don’t confuse with spa hotel nearby.

Very enjoyable weekend in an great location.The rooms we’re basic but clean and breakfasts still suffering from the COVID effect and not yet fully functional.

Terrific value for money

The whole experience was very good - until I bought a Gin and Tonic - seriously overpriced.

Hotel was great, rooms were small but comfortable enough for a 2 night stay, clean and very tidy. Great location away from all roads and traffic. Food was amazing, although 2 of our party struggled with the a la carte menu. Was a shame the golf bar shut at 6.30, as was a very popular spot for everyone after the round. All in all, a great location for a short stay, we will be going back there.

Hotel room was clean with a comfortable bed and good bathroom with shower. Also plenty of usb sockets

The room was not much better, in fact worse, than something similar to a Premier Inn. The window was broken and could not be opened, one pane of glass in the bathroom was broken and the paint on the window frames was peeling and breaking off. The shower would run hot, then cold, then hot and so on. Certainly not worth the price paid.

Hotel is dated but for only one night was acceptable.

The staff we’re extremely efficient attentive friendly and helpful Rooms nicely turned out. It was very busy there but the staff were brilliant

10 of us enjoyed the experience. The hotel is Very well organised . You choose your evening meal upon arrival so that makes for speedy service. The staff were mainly very polite and well trained. The biggest complaint was the lack of hot water in the rooms. The manager wasn’t English and not particularly helpful. Golfers want to shower after a round and the following morning. This was a big disappointment to our group.

Pleasant hotel completely revamped since my last visit

The hotel was well maintained for a three star. Some of the windows and paint work are looking tired, but overall it was a pleasant stay.

Great stay, fantastic value for money

The hotel was ok but it was clear that there were staffing problems. Breakfast was extremely slow and staff seemed to be learning their roles, we realise the difficulties in the hospitality industry at present and feel that the hotel are doing their best to provide for their guests.

We checked into our room after golf at around 4pm. Sadly the telephone was not working. No cups and saucers for the tea/coffee facility and no glasses. The room was spacious and clean and. Very habitable.

Very enjoyable break. Staff were very friendly & super efficient. Could not fault the service. Room was comfortable but the paper cups should be replaced with cups and saucers. A safe in the room would be desirable but overall the room was quiet and the bed very comfortable.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the evening meal was excellent! Breakfast choice was a bit limited but the full English was good. The rooms are quite small and basic but clean and nicely decorated. It would have been nice to have a proper cup to make tea in rather than a paper one!

Very small rooms boiling hot no air con or fans. Couldn't charge anything to room. They seemed short staffed in reception and room service non existent.

Unfortunately we were not allocated the rooms which we had requested. We stayed in a courtyard room which was extremely basic. There was exceptionally limited storage which seemed somewhat at variance with the hotel rating.

Covid causes restrictios to what the Hotel can do, eg daily cleaning of rooms and other contact points. I asked through golf travel for rooms in the main building, this failed we were allocated anex rooms. For a golfing break this hotel is better than average with a very good restaurant.

Unfortunately the room was small poorly maintained.and not re stocked after the previous guests.The food was good quality and the golf courses were excellent

Taking into account the current restrictions we thought that the venue catered very well.. the food was excellent.. the service very good. My room was a little dusty and the quilt cover had 2 rips in it (Room 307).

The accommodation was good quality, comfortable beds, good room size and very clean. Room facilities were also very good. The food at the restaurant was of a very good standard and we were more than happy this. The only thing we could fault was that the staff were hit and miss, some of the service was very slow. I am fine with paying as we go for food and drink but staff shouldn't be collecting payment mid meal. Just get payment on ordering, everytime we order the staff went away got the drinks or food and then came back 5 minutes later for us to pay. Also staff knowledge of what they are serving was not the best. In the evening we were told to sit at a table and we would be attended to. The waitress came and asked us what we wanted to drink. We asked what beer/lager they have on draught. She squinted towards the bar and then said 'sorry I can't see from here, I think we have Morretti'. We ordered two pints of this only for here to return and say we don't have that on draught. Things that can be put right with some training and better managing. The waitress we had serving our evening food was excellent though so they definitely have staff that do know what they are doing! Overall it was a good stay.

Under current Covid-19 restrictions it is always going to be difficult, but food was very good, and the staff were helpful, albeit a little stretched. Rooms were clean and very comfortable (had an executive room which gave me much more space)

Hotel was decent, everything you need for a golf break. Staff were really friendly and food for dinner and breakfast was superb. The only thing I was completely shocked at was the pricing in the Sandy Lyle bar. Over £6 for a pint is comical.

Excellent location with 2 lovely golf courses. Food was very high standard. Despite Covid restrictions it was a great experience. The only reason the Staff did not get full marks is that on 2 occasions (of a 3 night stay) our room key was disabled due to us being checked out in error. Also the Reception staff ignored us when we were waiting for information and continued with their administration work. Apart from this (minor) niggle the stay was perfect

Looked like it had been refurbished recently. But given the C-19 circumstances the staff were excellent. Food was great, both dinner and breakfast, service was fantastic - it cannot be easy at the moment for the staff. Sadly the behavior of some of the guests was appalling (it was full of groups of blokes on golfing breaks) but the hotel handled the issues relating to them really well. Timely responses to the problems encountered and excellent replies.

A very clean and comfortable place to stay , the compliance with the special arrangements required due to the Covid situation were followed impeccable which was most reassuring , it is a number of years since my last of many visits which I’ve always enjoyed and I would say generally things have improved from an already pleasant place to stay , I congratulate the management and staff on there efforts !!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel apart from the speed of service in the bar. Not enough staff to cope with the amount of people, especially as they knew they were fully booked. Drinks were quite pricey but not excessively considering it's a respected golf club. The separate building which we stayed in looked a little tired from the outside but inside was very clean and had modern decor.

The single beds were a bit narrow. Dinner was very good. Breakfast was poor, coronavirus impact. Lunch menu was restricted again coronavirus impact. Some of the guests could have been more aware of coronavirus rules.

Hotel was nice - room was good. Bar was quite busy and could have done with more staff on whilst there was a wedding happening. Had a top time at Hawkstone and would definitely recommend.

Since the refurbishment the bedroom - ensuite accommodation is very comfortable, if not a little small... and for ladies, somewhat grey! The restaurant is very light and the menu was excellent for the money. Our two complaints were the understaffing, particularly at dinner on Tues 3rd. There were over 50 men in the room and only 3 staff plus bar man so there was a lot of rushing around. Also the level of noise was very difficult. We would like to see these society venues considering this issue (The Vale was the same earlier in the summer) and offer a quieter area to eat. We are encouraged to see the building work in progress as the existing Clubhouse building is grim, with no atmosphere in the bar-eating area and a Pro-Shop that closes early in the afternoon. Overall we enjoyed the visit.

The hotel was amazing, the staff were really helpful and the rooms were fantastic. The only problem was that they still had the pool/snookers tables advertised when in fact they had been removed from the hotel. So just a pre-warning for anybody visiting that getting a taxi into Shrewsbury is probably the best option.

Great accommodation and excellent staff

Rooms recently refurbished to an excellent standard also the dining room which is first class. All the staff were very helpful and very pleasant nothing was to much trouble.

The rooms have been refurbished recently, though some of this appears cosmetic and may not last long. The room was tidy enough (though we did get a free upgrade to a suite), there was plenty of hot water, towel rail did'nt work. The resteraunt / bar area is airy and pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good, breakfast was basic, not a huge choice but what there was was hot and nice.Overall a good hotel for a golf course, though may not be your cup-of-tea if only visiting the area.

Nicely refurbished in the last few years. Caters very well for groups and conferences - less likely to be a venue for a romantic trip for two. Double room was large, comfortable and well-equipped. Evening fare on the DBB booking was fine but limited. Very good breakfast. superb setting.

First room was rather small but we were offered an upgrade to a family room which was lovely. Food in the restaurant was only okay but the service was excellent from friendly, attentive staff.

Hotel is in the countryside not near any other amenities.The rooms look as if they have been refurbished and are very clean and comfortable.Food was very good particularly the evening meal.staff very friendly.The one area of disappointment was that there was nothing to do in the evening.As a group we entertained ourselves but there was no communal tv / no sky sports and no sports fascilities i. e snooker table.The golf clubhouse which did have some fascilities closed at 530pm.We were told they were building a specific sports area and there is some construction work going on. Wether it was the time of year but the golf club house which is very nice seemed to be under used for some reason.The pro shop was well stocked and the reception we had very good.We changed our tee off times on the second day and this wasn’t a problem .Changing rooms were very clean in general we had a very good stay

We were a party of six staying for one night plus two rounds of golf. Hotel: Initially we were all put in the annex accommodation. Here the rooms were very small. You might say ‘how much room do you need for one night’? But the twin beds were very close together, and had the weather been wet, there would have been very little room for two people to dry their clothing. Because the toilet flush mechanism was broken, the reception staff moved two of us to a room in the main building, (why hadn’t the cleaner reported this fault?). This room was of a size I would have expected and quite comfortable. However the floorboards were very creeky and after ninety minutes in bed someone came into the room above and then spent over an hour walking about which kept me awake until 1:30am (Not Premier Inn standard). The tap for the hand basin was loose on its mount. Considering the whole hotel was fully refurbish not long ago, (and at first impressions looks very smart) I am surprised at how quickly it has deteriorated. Food: One of us had burger and chips from the Bar Menu, very nice. Another had steak from the À la carte Menu, very nice. The rest of us went for the fixed menu of £20 for two courses this was ok but the roast beef was tough, the roast pork was dried out and the potatoes tasteless. At breakfast, the staff were not very attentive, I had to ask for tea and coffee. The buffet selection was on the poor side, there were no boiled or scrambled eggs only fried, the tomatoes were shrivelled up and the fried bread looked like bread rolls from the night before which had been sliced and fried. Drinks: In the Golf Centre the drinks are VERY expensive. A pint of bitter £4.90 and non-alcoholic Beck Blue £7 for a pint (2 bottles). Extortionate! In the hotel bar the prices were still high but more what you would expect in a hotel. Golf: The Pro-shop was adequate and seamed to have everything that you may have forgotten and left at home. The staff were friendly. The courses were very good especially considering the hammering they must take from visitors. Quite a few of the fairways could have done with a mow as they were a bit slow. The greens were very good, the speed and angles made you think hard about every putt. Overall impression: We all said we would love to play there again. However most of us said the hotel side would put us off staying there.

All the renovations seem now to be complete to a very modern standard. Food was very acceptable, all staff very helpful. We were all very pleased.

Hawkstone Park Hotel has been upgraded since last year and the place looks great..we had a great night there and would recommend Hawkstone to anyone.

Excellent stay with very friendly staff from reception to restaurant to bar staff. Hotel restaurant and all rooms have had a significant investment since our last visit and really looks fantastic. Will be back next year for sure.

Everything up to the day of travel was easy to organise (group of 16 golfers). A couple of phone calls to YGT and enquiries were quickly and efficiently dealt with.
 
The Hawkstone Park golf break consisted of 18 holes on the Hawstone Course, which is a truly fabulous course. It’s a little undulating and set within an entirely natural setting; challenging, yet a very playable course.

Check-in at the hotel was professional, the dinner menu had a good variety of dishes to choose from and the food was of a high standard. The hotel rooms were of a good standard too and comfortable.
 
Day two started with a buffet style breakfast and again the food was good. Then it was off to play the Championship Course. This is another nice course and challenging with tight fairways on the front nine and plenty of water on the back.
 
Overall, both courses were great to play and the facilities at the clubhouse, hotel and pro shop were all good too.
 
If I had a niggle then food at the clubhouse was very expensive but I would prefer to end on the positive notes this break deserves. The facilities were great, fun was had by all and it’s pretty good value too.
 
The guys want to have a similar outing next year so cannot wait to see what's on offer.

Our trip to Hawkstone Park went really well as we were lucky with having good weather on both days and I would like to thank the your golf travel team for making it so easy - this at least the third time I have used you and I've been pleased every time.

All of my group were pleased with the overall cost of the golf break...most thought that the price was just for the golf and room only, not dinner, B&B!!

We were also lucky in that the hotel chose to give most of my group individual rooms rather than having to share - I guess they were not full on that Thursday.

I think everyone preferred the Hawkstone Course to the Championship Course although both were good and presented a reasonable challenge to all handicaps.

On the whole, it's a venue I would recommend at this price but would advise bookers to be aware of the price for drinks.

Hawkstone Park has two very nice golf courses, both of which were in superb condition, with undulating fairways and excellent greens, even though it was difficult to hold them.

This venue is truly great value for money so thanks to YGT for all their input & organisation; so easy to deal with.

I would recommend this to everyone.

Thanks for a wonderful golf break at Hawkstone Park. It was hard to chose which course was the best as both courses were the best we’ve played so far. The greens and fairways were 9/10 with the rough on the Championship Course a little too long but that didn’t spoil the day as the rest of the course was so good.

Food in the hotel was very good, the rooms were basic but very clean and that’s all you need.

Price of a pint or 2 was a bit on the steep side but all in all would go again and would recommend a golf break at Hawkstone Park to all levels of golfers.

As previous review. A shame the championship club house is closed too. Although the smaller club house was lovely and was where the nicer more helpful and social staff worked throughout the venue

A very picturesque course and some wonderful views and landscaping. No external noise or traffic distractions. Played two different courses. A great mix one slightly technical with a number of bunkers to navigate and the other slightly more wide open and forgiving. The winds through the valley made it very interesting too

This course was excellent, well designed and suitably challenging for a group of mixed abilities. The holes varied in their challenge and beautifully landscape within some stunning surroundings

Absolutely superb course which was in lovely condition on the fairways and greens. Beautifully established Parkland with cleverly designed and varied holes - some par 4’s were tricky to reach up the slopes!.

Course not in the best condition due to heavy rain coupled with a very long period of dry weather, fairways were quite sparse of grass, although in better condition than the Hawkstone.

Torrential rain the last few holes which dampened the experience but course played well and was in great condition.

Enjoy the course - rained heavily prior to event but course held up well.

All three agreed the other Hawkestone course slightly better.

2 nice courses

Due to the undulating nature of the course and the very dry weather of late, our tee shots ended up in some suprising locations. The marker posts in the fairways gave a false sense of security. Hitting a straight drive over them one might expect to be near the centre of the fairway, not on another fairway or off the course entirely!

We were prepared for a slow round of golf, so it was of no suprise that we were held up the entire way around.

Greens were totally different from the championship! Too quick really PGA standard! First par 3 I four putted I play off twelve so havnt done that for years. Tough track with the really dry bone hard conditions on hilly course!

Greens were spotless. Only let down by overflowing bins that hadnt been emptied the night before (we were 0800 tee). Could do with some sort of halfway hut for refreshments.

Preferred the layout compared to the Hawkstone course, however it feels like the investment has been in the Hawkstone course, the championship course could be excellent.

Had to walk off after 9 holes as pace of play was so slow. 3 hours 10 minutes for 9 holes is unacceptable. Allowing novice golfers in buggies really slowed things up.

The course was in great condition and the greens were called out by all of our team as being some of the very best they've played on. It's.disappointing that the last 2 groups in our round only had 15 minutes to get a drink before the Sports Bar closed. There were no halfway house or drinks buggy facilities on offer either. Very poor for this venue.

Having played this after the Hawkstone course and on playing the first few holes, I thought it was going to be similar but once it opened out, it was a different challenge, reminding me of some of the Florida style courses I've played. Greens had suffered from bird damage which is prevalent at the moment but still a very enjoyable test of golf

A really interesting and picturesque course with plenty of blind shot holes, some which probably needed a bell or other warning device. The layout reminded me of a number of other courses I've played with narrow entrances to greens and shots over hollows

The golf courses are incredible and the greens are the best I’ve played on in a very long time. The Championship course has a few holes in close proximity to each other so there a bit of ducking and diving as balls are flying everywhere however we all emerged unscathed. Our group preferred the Hawkstone Course as it’s a little more forgiving and better for the amateur but both were top class.

great course but pity about the rain for the last 4 holes

1st round Hawkstone spot on nobody in front 3.5 hours couldn't fault it good course. Plenty of hazards, accuracy is key. The Championship, due to members in front extremely slow 🐌 4.5- 5 hour round. At our Club, we would expect complaints at that pace. But the course it self is very nice, and well looked after. Plenty of water on the back 9. And you may have plenty of time e to admire the seniary.

The Course was immaculate, the greens were quick and very responsive. All Fairways and first cuts were looked after. My only complaint is ive seen Seniors go around quicker than some golfers I groups of 4 that think they are on the PGA, and let me tell you they are not. The Hawkstone was clear we went around in 3.5 hours. The Championship we were bouncing on 4.5~5 hour round, due to Members, marking balls, 5 practice swings then duffing it 10ft. We were booked on at 8am on the Championship, when we turned up at 7.30am the proshop told us we are now 8.30 due to members playing!

A more open course with a few holes that have water challenges. The greens were not as slick and some of the bunkers require some tlc.

The course is well planned out with a great variety of holes. The greens were very slick with sometimes challenging reads.

I personally found this course harder,but once again course was in good shape and some greens were better (faster) than others. Would recommend Hawkstone to anyone who's thinking of going .

Overall we had a good experience on this course .some green were better and quicker than others. No complaints though.

This is a lovely golf course. Condition overall really very good although some of the green surrounds a little bit bare. There were no wardens or marshals around the course nor at the starters hut. Pace a play was glacial at best. It would be far better if Marshalls a don’t just come at me when you have been broken Wright go to the toilet come onre on the course to push people along. Some of the groups clearly had no idea about place of play standing and chatting on T boxes when the course was clear in front. The green were excellent and running incredibly smoothly. The course is also spectacularly beautiful and I would very happily return to play again. I would note that I very much prefer preferred this course over the championship course.

Overall, this is a nice golf course. I felt that the condition of the fairways were pretty average overall with a number of bare patches. Certainly different to the Hawkstone course. The greens are in an excellent condition and roll very true. Slightly slower greens than the Hawkstone and certainly not representative of the practice putting surface. As with the Hawkstone course the pace of play was horrendously slow. Round took over five hours to complete. Groups in front plainly paying no attention to pace of play or those in groups behind them. No marshalls, no halfway house and no starter. This says let the course down.

Only played 9 holes because of weather. Looking forward to going back and playing all of it.

The Championship Course was immaculate the last time I played it (2018). It wasnt quite to that standard this time but still a great course to play and highly recommended. Bunkers needed work, they were very untidy. Greens were quite as good as they were on the Hawkstone Course, but once again its only April and versus some other courses its in good condition. Highly recommend playing this course.

This course remains in my Top 5 of all time. It wasnt quite to the standard ive played in the past (Slightly Untidy tee boxes, slightly untidy bunkers) but it is still on April. A course everyone ahould play.

A bit more challenging and few longer holes, but still very scenic and a fair test for good golfers, a bit more tough for higher handicaps and shorter hitters.

Beautiful course mostly well presented, although the 8th is a terrible design. Overall really enjoyable course.

Lovely geographical setting adjacent to the Hawkestone Follies with a variety of interesting holes. I played this course dozens of times previously over 25 years ago and was looking forward to returning. I wasn't disappointed.

Lovely course, sadly conditions weren’t to original standard but the weather played a big part. Well planned course with various hazards to overcome. Toilet facilities need to be addressed has doors were a problem, one wouldn’t close & kept blowing open & the other locked but then got stuck inside.

This was more scenic than the championship course with a varied selection of holes. The greens are undulating an break in several directions depending on where you stand. Definitely a good test, if you can read the greens then you can have a good score. Generally we found across 25 golfers, 30 points was about average from the yellow tees.

There are a good selection of holes. The first few holes have quite an elevation change. It then flattens out as you play around a large lake.

Quite an up and down course that was presented in fabulous condition. Greens were good, fairways mostly lush, and a real test. Some lovely holes around the water, again will definitely be back.

This is by no means the weaker course of the two really enjoyed by all our players . Great scenery and some unique holes .

Excellent test for all abilities played twice by our party , both rounds completed in 4 hours .

Course was just right for us. Second round was very slow due to the four idiots in front of us who caused a log-jam. Both courses met with everybody's approval. No water in the ball washers and they definitely need more bins, particularly as a section of their clientele feel that they cannot play a round of golf without consuming a case of lager.

The only let down on day 2 was the weather.Still the two days were very enjoyable, great value for money,both courses in superb condition, great food. Booking was very easy, and despite twice having to make changes due to unforeseen circumstances, the team were a pleasure to deal with throughout.

Although the course was very busy, everything flowed well.

Love the setting of the Hawkstone Course, beneath the high red sandstone cliffs that house the Hawkstone Follies and echo with the shrill screams of Red Kites circling ominously overhead, waiting to pick the bones out of the remains of your round, should you slip or stumble into one of the many hidden perils that await.... The torrential cloudburst that heralded our arrival on the 1st tee, set the mood for the epic battle that was about to begin, as 6 mighty golfing warriors assembled to fight it out for the 2024 Sid Cup, in memory of Sid Mills, the football, cricket and golfing legend of Swindon. The course itself is a delight to play, and has more geography per square foot than a 1970's teacher with corduroy elbow patches. Hidden gullies and cliff edges, ravines and hollows are all skillfully and seamlessly used, to create the golf course that created Sandy Lyle. The greens were true, the fairways lush and the bunkers heavy (especially as wet), but eminently escapable as long as you 100% commit to the shot. In wet summers the course does suffer with water and I was concerned as the forecast was not good and annoyingly, turning out to be accurate. The 10th hole, playing down to the iconic Hawkstone red sandstone bluff had a small amount of casual water, but a drop 5 yards either way was sufficient to deal with that. The rest of the course was fine, despite the regular return of the predicted "heavy showers". The weather did treat us to a few episodes of glorious sunshine too, and during those all to brief episodes, the course was a picture. Like the Championship course, The Hawkstone is heavily tree lined, but not so much as to punish the careful golfer. Unfortunately for me, I rather like to go for it, a bit too much, but accept the risk/reward ratio of 1 success to 3 disasters with good grace. Sadly, although the 1st group finished all 18 wonderful holes, our 2nd group had to abandon their adventure half way down the 17th as a lightening flash, followed 1 second later by a roar from the mighty Thor, precipitated a mass evacuation from the course. So the 2024 Sid Cup was decided over 16 holes and for the 4th time in a row, we had a new winner - sekuru McCarthy (Big Al), transforming his tour from zero (Oswestry) to hero (Hawkstone) in 4 amazing days. We miss you Sid....

Quite a tight "Championship" style course, made more challenging by narrow tree lined fairways. Stray balls from other holes were a frequent hazard, so keep your wits about you.

This contrasts with Hawkestone which is more mature and attractive. From choice I prefer to play the Hawkestone twice but some of my group really enjoyed the Championship which favours long hitters.

Came in May and the greens were very average but the bad winter must have had an impact. In a month everything has hugely improved. It is a memorable course with beautiful scenery. Shame about the bird damage on some of the greens.

Another amazing course, got a little confused with changes to the ladies score card and was only told of changes when taking a look at the course rating sheets
