Hawkstone Park Golf Club is one of the most popular golf trip destinations in the North West of England. Surrounded by mature Shropshire countryside, this 36 hole golf resort has welcomed golfers for decades with both The Hawkstone, designed by 5-time Open Champion James Braid, and The Championship golf courses providing a superb test for a range of handicaps.
In terms of settings, few can compete with Hawkstone Park. It's two championship golf courses and the academy layout are nestled in an English Heritage Grade I landscape, next to the ruins of a medieval castle and the stunning cliffs of the Follies.
The picturesque surroundings combined with testing golf, popular with golf societies and smaller groups alike, make Hawkstone Park a perfect destination for golf breaks in the North West.

The Championship Course is Hawkstone Park’s youngest layout and has made this venue one of the few in the West Midlands to boast 36 holes of championship golf. Weighing in at 6,763 yards it is noticeably longer than the Hawkstone Course and features many Americanisms – including generous fairways and large water hazards – which create an interesting juxtaposition with the stunning, and very English surroundings

The golf complex at Hawkstone Park extends to forty two holes, giving visiting golfers excellent variety. The 18-hole Hawkstone Course is where a young Sandy Lyle learnt his trade and it boasts some excellent holes. Particular highlights come around the turn and include holes such as the 12th, which has cleverly made use of the castle’s moat. Measuring 6,487 yards, this course is long enough to pose a question of even the best player’s golf game while not being overbearing for the lesser equipped player.
Signature hole: The 10th on the Hawkstone is the resort's signature; named ‘The Road Hole', the 518 yard par-5 hugs the dramatic cliff top.

The six-hole Academy Course is especially useful for beginners but also offers a good opportunity for more experienced players to work on their short game or to simply enjoy some golf should they be pressed for time. Hawkstone Park also boasts good practice facilities including a 20-bay driving range an extensive short game area with both putting and chipping greens.
The 66 bedrooms in Hawkstone Park's hotel have been the subject of extensive refurbishment in recent times, and are now stylishly decorated and ideally equipped for a comfortable stay. For that special occasion, it is possible to upgrade to one of the sumptuous superior rooms and suites.
Every guest room is fitted with luxury extras like a flat screen satellite television. The relaxing accommodation will ensure that visitors are revitalised, and ready to explore all that Hawkstone has to offer, with the incredible natural beauty of the surroundings, in addition to the fantastic golf courses.
The fine 1792 Bar & Grill restaurant is famed for its extravagant Sunday lunches.
In the Lyles Bar, guests will enjoy a light bite or a refreshing drink, and also the fine views of the Hawkstone course 18th green.
Exploring the 18th century Hawkstone Park Follies is an incredible experience; the fantasyland of cliffs, crags, caves, woodland, and ancient monuments has been awarded Grade 1 certification by the English Heritage organisation. Highlights include the Swiss Bridge, a vintage wooden structure spanning a deep chasm, and the Monument, a 100-foot column whose peak affords views over no less than 13 counties.
This local landmark draws thousands of visitors each year, drawn in by the spectacular views including Hawkstone Park Golf Course itself with the follies overlooking the Hawkstone and Championship course to explore the 100 acres of stunning Shropshire countryside.
Golfers looking for something a little more expansive for their golf break can head to local towns such as Shrewsbury which is home to not only a castle but also a cathedral with a wide variety of bars, restaurants and shops to explore.
Hawkstone Park can be found in Weston-under-Redcastle, North Shropshire, a mere half-hour drive north of Shrewsbury and an hour's drive south of Manchester.

Comfortable but the hotel is very dated; needs a lot of work to bring it back to standard for the price - when compared to locations at a similar price such as Forest Pines, it lags behind

We stayed for 3 nights and overall enjoyed the trip. However, a few niggles. The room was fine let down by the bathroom. The shower needed a booklet for instructions to work it (sadly there wasn't), the tap in the sink was so tight it was touch and go if it soaked you. Never stayed in a hotel room with no Toilet brush but the real annoyance was there must have been only a handful of guests staying and they put everyone basically next door to each other so you could hear doors closing and TV's The food was excellent and the staff great. However, on the last evening there was only us in the room of say 50 tables another couple came in and incredibly showed them to a table withing 4 ft of ours.

Great building and happy with rooms. Some staff were lovely and attentive. The food was well presented and tasty. The restaurant itself was cold due to external doors being left open and no staff members spotting and correcting this even after request. So we closed doors ourselves 6 times, but this did make our meal go cold and we moved tables which didn’t really help. Breakfast was very basic. So an average pleasant stay. Not entirely sure it was worth its price tag as left a bit to be desired.

Stayed as part of a group golf break. Our rooms were in the motel part of the hotel, but only a few mins walk from reception. Rooms themselves had decent beds and clean and some refurbishment of bathrooms had obviously been done TV included in the room with access to the main sky sports channel which was a bonus the main hotel with reception, bar and dining room all seem to be pretty new and was very comfortable. The bar was somewhat limited in its range of beers and had a hard close time of 11 pm which was a shame for residents. The bar and facilities in the golf club were good but did not remain open in the evenings unless large groups were staying. Hotel had no spa or other facilities available. Overall pretty decent for a Golf breaks group not one to booking to if couples with partners are looking for these facilities.

Repeat visit for the last few years and always enjoyable. Both courses are a great test of golf and offer a different golf experience. Hotel rooms are small and tired but acceptable. Staff weren’t as attentive as previous years but again, acceptable.

Much better condition than the hawkstone course; good layout though some holes are a bit “samey”. Would like to play it in summer but it isn’t worth the price tag of £220+ in summer due to the dated hotel Also disappointing that we needed to collect balls our self on the range due to the tractor not being in service

Great layout and lots of interesting holes. Greens were poorly maintained compared to those on the championship course though. Facilities are becoming dated

Played long as it was still a little wet, greens were slow but only just opened up fully due to weather so all in all a great weekend

Long, long, long. A bit dull but impossible for my wife to get on any green in less than 7 shots (par 3's excepted). Very long rough as it was wet and they couldn't cut it. No run on the fairways at all. A guy in front had lost 4 balls in 7 holes in the rough. Greens slow and not in good nick either. In hindsight I should have called Your Golf Travel to ask about course conditions and if I'd known there was Temporary, I wouldn't have booked it

It's early Spring golf so very easy to be critical but 9 temporary greens and 9 awful ones. Really couldn't fathom it as clubs around where we live have great greens and good fairways. Temp Tee boxes as well but these were terrible. Not mown and on slopes and the Ladies Tee markers were on the yellow tees so the course played the same yardage for Ladies. Didn't get that at all.

As previous review. A shame the championship club house is closed too. Although the smaller club house was lovely and was where the nicer more helpful and social staff worked throughout the venue

A very picturesque course and some wonderful views and landscaping. No external noise or traffic distractions. Played two different courses. A great mix one slightly technical with a number of bunkers to navigate and the other slightly more wide open and forgiving. The winds through the valley made it very interesting too

This course was excellent, well designed and suitably challenging for a group of mixed abilities. The holes varied in their challenge and beautifully landscape within some stunning surroundings

Absolutely superb course which was in lovely condition on the fairways and greens. Beautifully established Parkland with cleverly designed and varied holes - some par 4’s were tricky to reach up the slopes!.
