Hawkstone Park Golf Club is one of the most popular golf trip destinations in the North West of England. Surrounded by mature Shropshire countryside, this 36 hole golf resort has welcomed golfers for decades with both The Hawkstone, designed by 5-time Open Champion James Braid, and The Championship golf courses providing a superb test for a range of handicaps.
In terms of settings, few can compete with Hawkstone Park. It's two championship golf courses and the academy layout are nestled in an English Heritage Grade I landscape, next to the ruins of a medieval castle and the stunning cliffs of the Follies.
The picturesque surroundings combined with testing golf, popular with golf societies and smaller groups alike, make Hawkstone Park a perfect destination for golf breaks in the North West.

The Championship Course is Hawkstone Park’s youngest layout and has made this venue one of the few in the West Midlands to boast 36 holes of championship golf. Weighing in at 6,763 yards it is noticeably longer than the Hawkstone Course and features many Americanisms – including generous fairways and large water hazards – which create an interesting juxtaposition with the stunning, and very English surroundings

The golf complex at Hawkstone Park extends to forty two holes, giving visiting golfers excellent variety. The 18-hole Hawkstone Course is where a young Sandy Lyle learnt his trade and it boasts some excellent holes. Particular highlights come around the turn and include holes such as the 12th, which has cleverly made use of the castle’s moat. Measuring 6,487 yards, this course is long enough to pose a question of even the best player’s golf game while not being overbearing for the lesser equipped player.
Signature hole: The 10th on the Hawkstone is the resort's signature; named ‘The Road Hole', the 518 yard par-5 hugs the dramatic cliff top.

The six-hole Academy Course is especially useful for beginners but also offers a good opportunity for more experienced players to work on their short game or to simply enjoy some golf should they be pressed for time. Hawkstone Park also boasts good practice facilities including a 20-bay driving range an extensive short game area with both putting and chipping greens.
The 66 bedrooms in Hawkstone Park's hotel have been the subject of extensive refurbishment in recent times, and are now stylishly decorated and ideally equipped for a comfortable stay. For that special occasion, it is possible to upgrade to one of the sumptuous superior rooms and suites.
Every guest room is fitted with luxury extras like a flat screen satellite television. The relaxing accommodation will ensure that visitors are revitalised, and ready to explore all that Hawkstone has to offer, with the incredible natural beauty of the surroundings, in addition to the fantastic golf courses.
The fine 1792 Bar & Grill restaurant is famed for its extravagant Sunday lunches.
In the Lyles Bar, guests will enjoy a light bite or a refreshing drink, and also the fine views of the Hawkstone course 18th green.
Exploring the 18th century Hawkstone Park Follies is an incredible experience; the fantasyland of cliffs, crags, caves, woodland, and ancient monuments has been awarded Grade 1 certification by the English Heritage organisation. Highlights include the Swiss Bridge, a vintage wooden structure spanning a deep chasm, and the Monument, a 100-foot column whose peak affords views over no less than 13 counties.
This local landmark draws thousands of visitors each year, drawn in by the spectacular views including Hawkstone Park Golf Course itself with the follies overlooking the Hawkstone and Championship course to explore the 100 acres of stunning Shropshire countryside.
Golfers looking for something a little more expansive for their golf break can head to local towns such as Shrewsbury which is home to not only a castle but also a cathedral with a wide variety of bars, restaurants and shops to explore.
Hawkstone Park can be found in Weston-under-Redcastle, North Shropshire, a mere half-hour drive north of Shrewsbury and an hour's drive south of Manchester.

Great building and happy with rooms. Some staff were lovely and attentive. The food was well presented and tasty. The restaurant itself was cold due to external doors being left open and no staff members spotting and correcting this even after request. So we closed doors ourselves 6 times, but this did make our meal go cold and we moved tables which didn’t really help. Breakfast was very basic. So an average pleasant stay. Not entirely sure it was worth its price tag as left a bit to be desired.

Stayed as part of a group golf break. Our rooms were in the motel part of the hotel, but only a few mins walk from reception. Rooms themselves had decent beds and clean and some refurbishment of bathrooms had obviously been done TV included in the room with access to the main sky sports channel which was a bonus the main hotel with reception, bar and dining room all seem to be pretty new and was very comfortable. The bar was somewhat limited in its range of beers and had a hard close time of 11 pm which was a shame for residents. The bar and facilities in the golf club were good but did not remain open in the evenings unless large groups were staying. Hotel had no spa or other facilities available. Overall pretty decent for a Golf breaks group not one to booking to if couples with partners are looking for these facilities.

The group were left with mixed feelings following this weekends golf. The courses themselves were excellent and would certainly be a reason to return. However, the facilities were a let down. Not enough staff, early closing of the bar facilities and a general feeling of "its too much trouble" was the feedback I received. Rooms were clean and tidy and not an issue and the food when served was good. Needs some TLC and only 3 of our group of 36 said they would want to return. Some.of the drinks prices through the night were creative to say the least. This will be our last visit to Hawkstone unfortunately.

Was put in room at the back of the restaurant was small with no air conditioning and no ventilation where their was two off 12 seated tables in the restaurant that was air conditioned that was not used on the Friday or Saturday evening on the Saturday evening we sat outside to have our pudding. Two of our party were ill from the mushroom main course that spoilt it for them very disappointed 🥵🥵

Food and bar facilities were pretty good for the money we paid although £7.20 per pint was a bit steep. Bar/restaurant/reception/pro shop staff all very friendly and welcoming. Rooms looked newly refurbished however I wonder how they will look in a few months as the old building seems like it’s started causing a little damp and the windows look like they could do with upgrading but this in no way took anything away from our trip. Our Monday tee time coincides with ladies day at the club and they were not the most welcoming to say the least but again this didn’t detract from our stay. Overall we had a fabulous trip and the price we paid I felt was great value for money. I would definitely recommend this deal although don’t expect the Ritz.

✓15 Jun 2025
Stayed in a suite room which was comfortable overall. Two single beds to standard size. The suite itself has a slightly strange layout in that the living room area is enormous and the bedroom is quite small. The ensuite bathroom is also quite small and the shower is tight. However, the room is extremely clean upon check-in. The food offering is pretty average. Many descriptions do not describe the food that is delivered. Simple example is the menu states that burgers come in a brioche bun but just a standard bread roll arrived. Further Lincoln sausages are not as described but just economy sausages. Previous reviews to notice that things are done on a budget which I would agree with although in the current climate for hospitality, I’m not surprised. Some of the staff for cheerful and helpful although others seem to have forgotten the whole idea of hospitality and we were not exactly warm, friendly or smiling. Overall, I was happy with the hotel for the budget and would not exactly expect an offer a lot more, although smiles and welcoming staff don’t exactly break the bank.

The facilities are good but the bathrooms still have too much black mould and several areas are tired and poorly kept. Overall the food is terrible, the same menu for years and years, pre made or frozen meals, the worst fish I've ever had and not for the first time. The sandwiches at the spike bar are so poor and dreadfully over priced, most of the staff seem like they couldn't care less. The courses are great, the facilities are mostly great but someone needs to have a seriously conversation about the whole catering setup. I won't go again if it stays the same. I would happily give this feedback and discuss it with them directly. It seems such a shame when other venues can do it so much better.

Booked rooms in main hotel building but when we arrived our rooms allocated to us were in the courtyard instead which wasn't what we asked for,on returning to reception I was told there was no rooms available and also no notes on the system to say we wanted to be in the main hotel. How can you refurbish a room and ignore the bathroom, chipped enamel in bath and window rusty and paint peeling off frames, as was wallpaper near window, quite unacceptable after what I paid, for a Birthday treat for my friend! Seems like false economy! As you know the rooms aren’t cheap, neither is upgrading to superior! Prices in Spike Bar are extortionate, nearly £10 for a burnt ham and cheese toasty after our game yesterday! Evening meal was excellent, as were the staff, can’t fault them it or them!

I did email prior to arriving for a pack up breakfast as we had to leave @6am - this was very poor - I did expect something like a croissant, peice of fruit & orange juice. Sorry if all this seems negative but want to give you something that can help make improvements.

We paid for Dinner bed and breakfast; but was told on reception that our dinner wasn't included; as I didn't bring the paperwork with me couldn't argue; once I have returned home the paperwork clearly stated with Dinner

The rooms were modern and clean but some were a little on the small side. I had asked Your Golf Travel to note to the hotel that we wanted 7 twin rooms on the ground floor due to a number of our ladies being in their 70's and 80's and have difficulty with stairs but when we got there the hotel had no notes about this and we were on the 3rd floor up many stairs and one of our ladies luckily got a room on the ground floor but the hotel was full so no one could move if they needed to. It's not the hotel's fault but Your Golf Travel for not passing my message on when I booked it last year. The food was excellent and all the ladies commented that it was the best food they had had on a golfing weekend in many years. Darren the Bar Manager and all the staff couldn't do enough for our party and were very helpful and seemed to care that we had a great experience.

Rooms are just average but fine Very strange that the golf bar with sky sports, pool table, darts board ect was shut at 6.30pm as we came off the course. Hotel bar was ok fairly expensive but expected, the food was the highlight there was 18 of us and all of us thought the evening meal and breakfast was good. Both courses were very good. Overall for what we paid we thought it was good value for money and would recommend for a group who want a night away to play decent golf courses without costing a fortune.

Accommodation was really good, plenty of bar & restaurant staff, great breakfast & good dinner choice. Pro shop was a little strange, it seemed low on staff on occasions, but we got there ion the end. Bar prices are minty due to being captured in the middle of nowhere. But overall the venue was fantastic.

The hotel was fantastic in terms of cleanliness and character. The staff were attentive and polite. One thing I would say, it's pricey at the bars and clubhouse. Drinks and food are well over the norm' in price. That would be my only criticism. Otherwise, enjoyed the stay, and the party I was with said exactly the same.

A warm welcome from the staff at reception, Lyles bar were also friendly and catered well to our needs. Had pre- ordered our lunch on arrival day, that was excellent. Dinner in the evening was served by lovely staff and the choice of menu and quality of food was very good. Rooms were small, our shower didn’t work so reported it to reception. That evening after dinner they told us it was fixed but the following morning still no water for showering. Had an issue with cleanliness as we spectated the beds we found dirty underwear which as the hotel had only been open for 3 weeks must have been there from the previous season. This was reported at reception and we were told after dinner that it had been removed. Have given the 4stars purely for the friendliness of staff and the quality of the food but not for the cleaning.

The staff were great and more than willing to help where possible, but the main bar with tele, pool table etc shut at 7:30 so after dinner we was left on the tables we eat dinner at, which is located next to where they have wedding parties, the wedding guests were not happy with having a load of golfers mingling amounts them, rooms were fine for what you need however the bathrooms were full of mould ceilings falling down and the baths filled up whilst having showers, my room mate had to wait around 30 minutes for it to eventually drain so he could shower, could do with a bit of TLC

✓11 Oct 2022
The hotel is located in such beautiful surroundings. The staff were very welcoming at reception with pre-order & check in being very smooth and easy. The food was very tasty and all came out in a reasonable amount time especially considering the size of the group. The only negatives was that the clubhouse closed early which is a shame as it had a pool table and dart board in there. Also, the beds in the room were tiny. They felt smaller than a single but fine for one night stay.

2 Great golf courses (even in torrential rain) and the greens and fairways were in brilliant condition. Staff at the hotel and golf club were superb. Only issue for our group was trying to get to Shrewsbury for a night out....would recommend you precooked cabs as can be a real pain.

As a group of 16 we were all put in the annexe rooms of which some overlooked the 1st tee on the Hawkstone course … the rooms were comfortable enough but the windows need some serious attention , the frames internally need a clean and don’t look as tho they’ve been painted in 20 years. Dinner was ok .. but the breakfast was a massive disappointment… buffet 7.30 - 9.30 breakfast ….on our arrival in the restaurant at approximately 8.30 the was no bacon out no hash browns no eggs of any description and about half a dozen beans …. The coffee machine wasn’t working and the coffee and hot water dispensers were empty ….. to have everything run out all at once and not replenished straight away was I thought a bit shambolic …. Seemed as tho there was not enough staff on which needs addressing in my opinion…

My single room was tiny & very hot although they did bring a fan. Didn’t think it was worth the extra money for a single. Food was ok not brilliant & breakfast was chaotic. No toaster & we spent a Lot of time walking around to find what we wanted. They were short of staff. We were rushed into dinner because we played so late & one buggy broke down so we had to wait for them but I think the Chef wanted to go home! Would go again because of the golf not because of the hotel. I was last here a few years ago & the hotel has changed from being comfortable to corporate & money making.

young inexperienced staff, electricity in our room tripped overnight, security guard very helpful- mugs of hot water, charged up golf GPS at reception. BUT although room large and refurbished, it was not that clean, torn curtains, dirty ashtray and leaves on patio outside, windows dirty - spider and web in the room, brickwork outside crumbling. sounded like it was a 'problem' to order porridge. small boxes of concentrate orange juice and some bananas the only fruit at breakfast. not 4 star.

On arrival was a bit disappointed in the look of the hotel paint was flaking of the walls at the sides and at the front, also the pavilion or building buy the 18th green is actually not being used at all which seems a shame as would be spot on for the 19th hole. The rooms were presented ok but a little on the small side. The food was excellent not a fault wrong their the staff at the bars seem to be slow and only one till was working. The pro shop was very disappointing not a lot there to buy. The hotel has had a modernisation and the new reception, restaurant and bar area worked well. The bedroom was large and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner very good. The spike bar was basic but welcome after a round. Driving range and putting greens were good. They only have 20 buggies for each course and we’re fully booked. It would have been useful to know that they normally need 3 weeks notice to guarantee a buggy. There were no starters or Marshalls on the course but everything ran smoothly.

I've been going to Hawkstone Park for decades and it is a great golfing venue. The two courses are very different, the Championship being largely flat but with lovely trees (maybe a bit too much water !!), and the Hawkstone has great vistas and fantastic holes sweeping down wonderful glacial valleys. And the hotel has excellent rooms, really good food and very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing not to like about the venue, excellent value and I just love going there.

Good choice of drinks in the two bars albeit very expensive, but given value of the overall stay then nobody complained. We asked to change our room fro one with a walk in shower (over the bath showers are difficult for my wife). the room we3 got was quite small. It was very noisy during the night from water continually running down a large pipe in the bathroom, obviously draining water from upstairs. Also noise from machines (washing/dryers) running most of the night. The bathroom needs curtains or blinds as stairs run past the window making privacy non-existent.

Food was amazing, although 2 of our party struggled with the a la carte menu. Was a shame the golf bar shut at 6.30, as was a very popular spot for everyone after the round. The room was not much better, in fact worse, than something similar to a Premier Inn. The shower would run hot, then cold, then hot and so on. Certainly not worth the price paid.

10 of us enjoyed the experience. The hotel is Very well organised . You choose your evening meal upon arrival so that makes for speedy service. The staff were mainly very polite and well trained. The biggest complaint was the lack of hot water in the rooms. The manager wasn’t English and not particularly helpful. Golfers want to shower after a round and the following morning. I am fine with paying as we go for food and drink but staff shouldn't be collecting payment mid meal. Just get payment on ordering, everytime we order the staff went away got the drinks or food and then came back 5 minutes later for us to pay. Also staff knowledge of what they are serving was not the best. In the evening we were told to sit at a table and we would be attended to. The waitress came and asked us what we wanted to drink. We asked what beer/lager they have on draught. She squinted towards the bar and then said 'sorry I can't see from here, I think we have Morretti'. We ordered two pints of this only for here to return and say we don't have that on draught. Things that can be put right with some training and better managing. The waitress we had serving our evening food was excellent though so they definitely have staff that do know what they are doing! Overall it was a good stay.

Hotel was decent, everything you need for a golf break. Staff were really friendly and food for dinner and breakfast was superb. The only thing I was completely shocked at was the pricing in the Sandy Lyle bar. Over £6 for a pint is comical.

Excellent location with 2 lovely golf courses. Food was very high standard. Despite Covid restrictions it was a great experience. The only reason the Staff did not get full marks is that on 2 occasions (of a 3 night stay) our room key was disabled due to us being checked out in error. Also the Reception staff ignored us when we were waiting for information and continued with their administration work. Apart from this (minor) niggle the stay was perfect

Looked like it had been refurbished recently. But given the C-19 circumstances the staff were excellent. Food was great, both dinner and breakfast, service was fantastic - it cannot be easy at the moment for the staff. Sadly the behavior of some of the guests was appalling (it was full of groups of blokes on golfing breaks) but the hotel handled the issues relating to them really well. Timely responses to the problems encountered and excellent replies.

A very clean and comfortable place to stay , the compliance with the special arrangements required due to the Covid situation were followed impeccable which was most reassuring , it is a number of years since my last of many visits which I’ve always enjoyed and I would say generally things have improved from an already pleasant place to stay , I congratulate the management and staff on there efforts !!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel apart from the speed of service in the bar. Not enough staff to cope with the amount of people, especially as they knew they were fully booked. Drinks were quite pricey but not excessively considering it's a respected golf club. The separate building which we stayed in looked a little tired from the outside but inside was very clean and had modern decor.

Since the refurbishment the bedroom - ensuite accommodation is very comfortable, if not a little small... and for ladies, somewhat grey! The restaurant is very light and the menu was excellent for the money. Our two complaints were the understaffing, particularly at dinner on Tues 3rd. There were over 50 men in the room and only 3 staff plus bar man so there was a lot of rushing around. Also the level of noise was very difficult. We would like to see these society venues considering this issue (The Vale was the same earlier in the summer) and offer a quieter area to eat. We are encouraged to see the building work in progress as the existing Clubhouse building is grim, with no atmosphere in the bar-eating area and a Pro-Shop that closes early in the afternoon. Overall we enjoyed the visit.

The hotel was amazing, the staff were really helpful and the rooms were fantastic. The only problem was that they still had the pool/snookers tables advertised when in fact they had been removed from the hotel. So just a pre-warning for anybody visiting that getting a taxi into Shrewsbury is probably the best option.

The rooms have been refurbished recently, though some of this appears cosmetic and may not last long. The room was tidy enough (though we did get a free upgrade to a suite), there was plenty of hot water, towel rail did'nt work. The resteraunt / bar area is airy and pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good, breakfast was basic, not a huge choice but what there was was hot and nice.Overall a good hotel for a golf course, though may not be your cup-of-tea if only visiting the area.

Hotel is in the countryside not near any other amenities. The rooms look as if they have been refurbished and are very clean and comfortable.Food was very good particularly the evening meal.staff very friendly. The one area of disappointment was that there was nothing to do in the evening. As a group we entertained ourselves but there was no communal tv / no sky sports and no sports fascilities i. e snooker table. The golf clubhouse which did have some fascilities closed at 530pm.We were told they were building a specific sports area and there is some construction work going on. Wether it was the time of year but the golf club house which is very nice seemed to be under used for some reason. The pro shop was well stocked and the reception we had very good.We changed our tee off times on the second day and this wasn’t a problem .Changing rooms were very clean in general we had a very good stay

We were a party of six staying for one night plus two rounds of golf. Hotel: Initially we were all put in the annex accommodation. Here the rooms were very small. You might say ‘how much room do you need for one night’? But the twin beds were very close together, and had the weather been wet, there would have been very little room for two people to dry their clothing. Because the toilet flush mechanism was broken, the reception staff moved two of us to a room in the main building, (why hadn’t the cleaner reported this fault?). This room was of a size I would have expected and quite comfortable. However the floorboards were very creeky and after ninety minutes in bed someone came into the room above and then spent over an hour walking about which kept me awake until 1:30am (Not Premier Inn standard). The tap for the hand basin was loose on its mount. Considering the whole hotel was fully refurbish not long ago, (and at first impressions looks very smart) I am surprised at how quickly it has deteriorated. Food: One of us had burger and chips from the Bar Menu, very nice. Another had steak from the À la carte Menu, very nice. The rest of us went for the fixed menu of £20 for two courses this was ok but the roast beef was tough, the roast pork was dried out and the potatoes tasteless. At breakfast, the staff were not very attentive, I had to ask for tea and coffee. The buffet selection was on the poor side, there were no boiled or scrambled eggs only fried, the tomatoes were shrivelled up and the fried bread looked like bread rolls from the night before which had been sliced and fried. Drinks: In the Golf Centre the drinks are VERY expensive. A pint of bitter £4.90 and non-alcoholic Beck Blue £7 for a pint (2 bottles). Extortionate! In the hotel bar the prices were still high but more what you would expect in a hotel. Golf: The Pro-shop was adequate and seamed to have everything that you may have forgotten and left at home. The staff were friendly. The courses were very good especially considering the hammering they must take from visitors. Quite a few of the fairways could have done with a mow as they were a bit slow. The greens were very good, the speed and angles made you think hard about every putt. Overall impression: We all said we would love to play there again. However most of us said the hotel side would put us off staying there.

Everything up to the day of travel was easy to organise
(group of 16 golfers). A couple of phone calls to YGT and enquiries were
quickly and efficiently dealt with.
The Hawkstone Park golf break consisted of 18 holes on the Hawstone Course,
which is a truly fabulous course. It’s a little undulating and set within
an entirely natural setting; challenging, yet a very playable course.
Check-in at the hotel was professional, the dinner menu had a good variety
of dishes to choose from and the food was of a high standard. The hotel rooms
were of a good standard too and comfortable.
Day two started with a buffet style breakfast and again the food was good.
Then it was off to play the Championship Course. This is another nice course
and challenging with tight fairways on the front nine and plenty of water on
the back.
Overall, both courses were great to play and the facilities at the clubhouse, hotel
and pro shop were all good too.
If I had a niggle then food at the clubhouse was very expensive but I would
prefer to end on the positive notes this break deserves. The facilities were
great, fun was had by all and it’s pretty good value too.
The guys want to have a similar outing next year so cannot wait to see what's
on offer.

Our trip to Hawkstone Park went really well as we were lucky with having good weather on both days and I would like to thank the your golf travel team for making it so easy - this at least the third time I have used you and I've been pleased every time.
All of my group were pleased with the overall cost of the golf break...most thought that the price was just for the golf and room only, not dinner, B&B!!
We were also lucky in that the hotel chose to give most of my group individual rooms rather than having to share - I guess they were not full on that Thursday.
I think everyone preferred the Hawkstone Course to the Championship Course although both were good and presented a reasonable challenge to all handicaps.
OK...we had one niggle and that was the price of a pint. Went to the bar in the clubhouse to order 4 pints, supplied a £20 note and got 80p change! Drinking anywhere else is pretty much out of the question unless you want a 10 mile round trip...and designated drivers. On the whole, it's a venue I would recommend at this price but would advise bookers to be aware of the price for drinks.

Hawkstone Park has two very nice golf courses, both of which were in superb condition, with undulating fairways and excellent greens, even though it was difficult to hold them.
All staff members were very friendly and the prices within the complex were just about the average for such a place. This venue is truly great value for money so thanks to YGT for all their input & organisation; so easy to deal with.
I would recommend this to everyone.

Thanks for a wonderful golf break at Hawkstone Park. It was hard to chose which course was the best as both courses were the best we’ve played so far. The greens and fairways were 9/10 with the rough on the Championship Course a little too long but that didn’t spoil the day as the rest of the course was so good.
Food in the hotel was very good, the rooms were basic but very clean and that’s all you need.
Price of a pint or 2 was a bit on the steep side but all in all would go again and would recommend a golf break at Hawkstone Park to all levels of golfers.

Due to the undulating nature of the course and the very dry weather of late, our tee shots ended up in some suprising locations. The marker posts in the fairways gave a false sense of security. Hitting a straight drive over them one might expect to be near the centre of the fairway, not on another fairway or off the course entirely!

Having played this after the Hawkstone course and on playing the first few holes, I thought it was going to be similar but once it opened out, it was a different challenge, reminding me of some of the Florida style courses I've played. The golf courses are incredible and the greens are the best I’ve played on in a very long time. Our group preferred the Hawkstone Course as it’s a little more forgiving and better for the amateur but both were top class.

1st round Hawkstone spot on nobody in front 3.5 hours couldn't fault it good course. Plenty of hazards, accuracy is key. The Championship, due to members in front extremely slow 🐌 4.5- 5 hour round. At our Club, we would expect complaints at that pace. But the course it self is very nice, and well looked after. Plenty of water on the back 9. And you may have plenty of time e to admire the seniary.
Chris
✓22 Jun 2025
The Course was immaculate, the greens were quick and very responsive. All Fairways and first cuts were looked after. My only complaint is ive seen Seniors go around quicker than some golfers I groups of 4 that think they are on the PGA, and let me tell you they are not. The Hawkstone was clear we went around in 3.5 hours. The Championship we were bouncing on 4.5~5 hour round, due to Members, marking balls, 5 practice swings then duffing it 10ft. We were booked on at 8am on the Championship, when we turned up at 7.30am the proshop told us we are now 8.30 due to members playing!

This is a lovely golf course. Condition overall really very good although some of the green surrounds a little bit bare. There were no wardens or marshals around the course nor at the starters hut. Pace a play was glacial at best. It would be far better if Marshalls a don’t just come at me when you have been broken Wright go to the toilet come onre on the course to push people along. Some of the groups clearly had no idea about place of play standing and chatting on T boxes when the course was clear in front. The green were excellent and running incredibly smoothly. The course is also spectacularly beautiful and I would very happily return to play again. I would note that I very much prefer preferred this course over the championship course.
Mike
✓15 Jun 2025
Overall, this is a nice golf course. I felt that the condition of the fairways were pretty average overall with a number of bare patches. Certainly different to the Hawkstone course. The greens are in an excellent condition and roll very true. Slightly slower greens than the Hawkstone and certainly not representative of the practice putting surface. As with the Hawkstone course the pace of play was horrendously slow. Round took over five hours to complete. Groups in front plainly paying no attention to pace of play or those in groups behind them. No marshalls, no halfway house and no starter. This says let the course down.

A bit more challenging and few longer holes, but still very scenic and a fair test for good golfers, a bit more tough for higher handicaps and shorter hitters.

Lovely geographical setting adjacent to the Hawkestone Follies with a variety of interesting holes. I played this course dozens of times previously over 25 years ago and was looking forward to returning. I wasn't disappointed.

Lovely course, sadly conditions weren’t to original standard but the weather played a big part. Well planned course with various hazards to overcome. Toilet facilities need to be addressed has doors were a problem, one wouldn’t close & kept blowing open & the other locked but then got stuck inside.

Lovely laid out course. Sadly the greens were bumpy & uneven due to heavy rain the previous day & amount of foot fall. Green staff were out cutting despite the bad weather, so 👏👏to them

This was more scenic than the championship course with a varied selection of holes. The greens are undulating an break in several directions depending on where you stand. Definitely a good test, if you can read the greens then you can have a good score. Generally we found across 25 golfers, 30 points was about average from the yellow tees.
John

There are a good selection of holes. The first few holes have quite an elevation change. It then flattens out as you play around a large lake.

Course was just right for us. Second round was very slow due to the four idiots in front of us who caused a log-jam. Both courses met with everybody's approval. No water in the ball washers and they definitely need more bins, particularly as a section of their clientele feel that they cannot play a round of golf without consuming a case of lager.

Love the setting of the Hawkstone Course, beneath the high red sandstone cliffs that house the Hawkstone Follies and echo with the shrill screams of Red Kites circling ominously overhead, waiting to pick the bones out of the remains of your round, should you slip or stumble into one of the many hidden perils that await.... The torrential cloudburst that heralded our arrival on the 1st tee, set the mood for the epic battle that was about to begin, as 6 mighty golfing warriors assembled to fight it out for the 2024 Sid Cup, in memory of Sid Mills, the football, cricket and golfing legend of Swindon. The course itself is a delight to play, and has more geography per square foot than a 1970's teacher with corduroy elbow patches. Hidden gullies and cliff edges, ravines and hollows are all skillfully and seamlessly used, to create the golf course that created Sandy Lyle. The greens were true, the fairways lush and the bunkers heavy (especially as wet), but eminently escapable as long as you 100% commit to the shot. In wet summers the course does suffer with water and I was concerned as the forecast was not good and annoyingly, turning out to be accurate. The 10th hole, playing down to the iconic Hawkstone red sandstone bluff had a small amount of casual water, but a drop 5 yards either way was sufficient to deal with that. The rest of the course was fine, despite the regular return of the predicted "heavy showers". The weather did treat us to a few episodes of glorious sunshine too, and during those all to brief episodes, the course was a picture. Like the Championship course, The Hawkstone is heavily tree lined, but not so much as to punish the careful golfer. Unfortunately for me, I rather like to go for it, a bit too much, but accept the risk/reward ratio of 1 success to 3 disasters with good grace. Sadly, although the 1st group finished all 18 wonderful holes, our 2nd group had to abandon their adventure half way down the 17th as a lightening flash, followed 1 second later by a roar from the mighty Thor, precipitated a mass evacuation from the course. So the 2024 Sid Cup was decided over 16 holes and for the 4th time in a row, we had a new winner - sekuru McCarthy (Big Al), transforming his tour from zero (Oswestry) to hero (Hawkstone) in 4 amazing days. We miss you Sid....
Chris
✓8 Jul 2024
Quite a tight "Championship" style course, made more challenging by narrow tree lined fairways. Stray balls from other holes were a frequent hazard, so keep your wits about you.

Played this course in appalling rain for the whole round and we were first out so had the place to ourselves! It was only when we got to the 15th hole that the fairways had standing water on but the greens stood up really well with barely none! Lots of water hazards on here but wide fairways so unless you’re really wayward a mid to high handicap golfer should enjoy this course!
Paul

Golf course in excellent condition, Greens were really good with some undulations but not too tricky. Lots of buggies on the course so pace of play good. Some tight fairways but an easy enough course for a high handicap golfer.

Stephen
✓22 Apr 2024
Currently in better condition that the championship course. In hindsight we would have played this course twice. A couple of the holes were still very wet (10th and 11th being the worst). Greens were very poor though. Some balls were completely plugging from short iron approach shots. Current softness of the greens meant that there were deep footprints all over the greens. Given it hadn't rained much for a week to 10 days maybe they need to look at investing in sorting the drainage for the greens. On the 18th hole around 75% of the green was roped off
Stephen
✓22 Apr 2024
Could be a good course but it is currently in shocking condition. Wettest course we have played. I appreciate there isn't anything they can do about the weather but cutting the fairways and then leaving the cut grass was pretty bad. I would argue that many holes were almost unplayable. We lost many balls from good shots down the fairway because they simply plugged and disappeared. Not a greeenkeeper to be seen. We spoke to some long term members and they say it is the worst they have ever seen it and put it down to a combination of weather and a reduced number of greenkeepers and course investment.
Stephen
✓28 Mar 2024
We only played 12 holes on this course as the weather on previous days had been so bad much of the course was just drying out from swamp conditons. We plan to visit in the summer when the course has dried out and buggy's are available, the second half of the course is very hilly and it is a long course to walk either carrying or with a trolley.
Stephen

The fairways here had been mown which meant it was a better experience, despite it being carry only again. After the experience on the Championship course the previous day it restored our love of the game. A challenging, but very interesting course to play.
Frank
✓21 Mar 2024
We have played the course on a previous visit so we know that it is a good, although demanding course. This time however the back 9 in particular was unplayable. We were told later by a member that the course had been closed from November until March, so the fairways had not been mown. Even using tee pegs on the fairways, we lost over 20 balls between us due to them being plugged! Also carry only in these conditions meant is took us over 6 hours to complete the round, despite us being the only ones on the course. It should not have been open.
Neil
✓26 Nov 2023
Obviously the closure of the 12th hole was disappointing and closure of the Championship course (we had booked to play both) another disappointment, but understandable due to the preceding weather, but we enjoyed the course, scenery and course layout and would like to play both courses in the summer
Martyn
✓25 Oct 2023

Garry
✓9 Oct 2023
We played this course on the 6th October 2023.Whilst we had a dry day the course had suffered from recent rainfall. Quite frankly the course should have been closed as it wasn't fit to play.In parts it was boggy and a quagmire and clearly does not drain well! Having played it before in the summer dry conditions and enjoyed the course - I was so disappointed. My advice is if it has rained recently, to check the condition of the course before you play. The other Hawkstone course drains much better than the championship course.
Christine

Rachel

Chris
✓11 Sep 2023
Although we followed 2 four balls they played at a good pace and did not hold us up. We hired a buggy for this round because of the heat (there were none available the previous day as all were booked). We had a very enjoyable round and we were round in 3 hours 57 minutes which the club pro said was excellent for people who had not played the course before.
Chris
✓11 Sep 2023
Initially slow for the front nine because we had to wait for three 4 balls who had played the back nine first and had preference on the first tee. After 9 holes the 4 balls left the course and the back 9 for us was considerably faster which resulted in us getting round in a fraction over 4 hours

✓5 Sep 2023
27 in the group with a range of handicap indexes from 6 to 28. Everyone enjoyed the course from the yellow tees. The 3 ladies in our party found that the course played very long from the reds. This is due to there being little run (lush fairways and recent rain) and the ladies yardage 250 yds more than our home club.

Anne
✓1 Sep 2023
It would be advantageous if they could either put individual hole maps on the tees or provide a larger printed map of each hole. The one's on the back of the score cards are too small to see and this course has a lot of holes where you have no idea of where you are going or what lies ahead. A few of the bunker rakes were broken, which often happens with wooden handles, which proved difficult to rake the bunkers. Again, not a great fan of a porta-loo.
Anne
✓1 Sep 2023
Well it actually poured with rain and we got soaked but truthfully the course was really good and in a great condition. Only reason I marked the facilities down is that a porta-loo isn't really great.

✓14 Aug 2023
Superb condition and very challenging. A lot of blind shots. Which leads onto poorly signed tee boxes - no advice to wait for bell before teeing off. Doesn’t flow from green to tee. The porta-loo on the 9th was reminiscent of a Glastonbury toilet after a long weekend.

✓9 Aug 2023
Aug 6th was LC Charity Invitation, playing a BB competition so the field moved slowly. The Par 4s and 5s are very long, especially as the fairways were very green. The course has a variety of testing holes, especially through the Follies area. Toilet facilities could be improved! We don’t know how the Greenstaff manage to keep the greens looking and playing so well with the volume of play… and all bunkers were raked with decent sand… well done!

Our groups preferred course and a perfect day out to enjoy a round of golf.

A chalenging but fair test of golf for all handicap levels. My only criticism, lack of sinage from green to next tee which was sometime caused confusion.
Linda
✓15 Jun 2023
A good ‘resort’ course with water and great wild life. Some tricky holes with water coming into play. Preferred the Hawkstone Course. Overall a really enjoyable 3 days golf organised by Sam Philpot who was extremely helpful and answered any questions promptly
Linda
✓15 Jun 2023
We were 2x4 balls (mixed). Played the course twice and we all really enjoyed it! Some tricky holes- handicaps ranged from 11 to 27 but was a fair test of golf. Beautiful views and amazing trees surrounding course.

Again 1st time of playing. A lot of blind holes where we were unsure of where we were going. A most enjoyable and testing course.
Alan
✓5 Jun 2023
1st time on course, so found some of the holes a bit tricky - but a great course to play to test your skills (or lack of them!)
Judith
✓5 Jun 2023
Didn't think the Champion course played as tough as we thought it would have. Greens not as tricky as the Hawkstone but a challenge never the less.
Judith
✓5 Jun 2023
Wow what a course, excellent condition a real credit to the green staff, lots of features and even thouugh there are lakes ect its not as daunting as we all thought it would be.

Superb golf course - very picturesque, in excellent condition too
Martin
✓25 May 2023
Our 4 ball all agreed that we preferred to play the original course. Not so much character on the championship course. A few long holes but with just water hazards to the right to catch that slice. Well maintained and excellent greens.
Martin
✓25 May 2023
What a beautiful course. The best I have played. Each hole had character and it's own difficulty. The greens are so well maintained and slicker than slick, which was a challenge!

Hawkstone course condition was superb and is always a pleasure to play for it's outstanding layout in a beautiful part of England. My group will always look forward to returning.

The greens and fairway conditions are probably a result of the inclement weather we have had this year like most courses have suffered.

Always a lovely course, with fantastic views and beautiful trees. I love those holes where you drive down great glacial valleys. A good challenge. Could do with a few more ball cleaners.
Ronnie
✓13 May 2023
This course suffers from not being as attractive as the Hawkstone. And we had had a huge deluge of rain which made for difficult conditions. But it has nice surroundings and beautiful trees, so a good experience.
Richard
✓13 May 2023
It didn't rain the sun shone the scenery was majestic,so what is not to enjoy.

✓12 May 2023
A lovely parkland course with some beautiful holes, tight in places and some tricky greens. Some beautiful views of the Welsh hills and local follies. Very enjoyable. Course condition overall was excellent. Definitely recommend.
Quentin

Nice course wide fairways but plenty of hazards, very wet but that was due to heavy rain before and during our visit
Ken
✓25 Apr 2023
I actually found this course harder than the championship course, but much more fun... Again, not being a long hitter, kit was a test, but a different kind of test. Not as flat as the PGA, so blind fairways etc etc... really enjoyed it, although I came last on points in our group, still great fun. Would play that course again first, if i had the choice...
Ken
✓25 Apr 2023
For a high handicapper I found the course quick hard. I am not a long hitter, so getting to some of the greens was a test... Although I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would certainly do it again...
David
✓23 Apr 2023
Better weather and quicker greens and more British style of course made this the better of the 2, but as a package the contrast makes the resort all the better
David
✓23 Apr 2023
Probably only scoring slightly lower than its sister course due to my personal preference and the fact we had a bit of rain on the day
Scott

Lovely golf course, some great holes, greens were good.

Lovely course, and stunning setting especially from 10 onwards, greens were a bit spongy but it was late spring, overall a great course and recommended.

Roger
✓29 Mar 2023
I insisted on a buggy which was begrudgingly granted and had a good round.
Roger
✓29 Mar 2023
The course was very wet and I was told by a very dour pro shop that I couldn't have a buggy as it would not get round so I walked.I have a medical exemption at my home course and havent walkesd a course for 3 years. I crippled myself and waqs angry to see other buggies on the course and it was perfectly possible to get round.
Daniel
✓28 Mar 2023
Now this course is a million times better than the so called championship one, very well maintained not boggy in the slightest fairways were great given the weather we’ve recently had, greens brilliant, course lay out and scenery was a joy to walk round and play some brilliant holes. I would advise anyone to leave the championship course out an play this one a few times instead
Daniel
✓28 Mar 2023
This course is appalling, the greens for a championship course are terrible Ive seen better parks football pitches, I know we haven’t had the best weather but you couldn’t even walk without fear of falling, the fairways were terrible as for the rough we’ll it was just a bog the course should never of been open, it’s as if they don’t really take much care of this course and is just there for the championship status not condition
Richard
✓2 Nov 2022
A fun course although we much preferred the back 9 which felt more varied and unique.

✓11 Oct 2022
See above review for overall thoughts on both courses. I scored better on the Championship but felt it was much more difficult (probably because it was longer). Would recommend doing the Championship on the 1st day and Hawkstone on the 2nd due to inevitable hangovers!
Sean
✓11 Oct 2022
Both golf courses were superb. There was a split in the group on which course was the best which I take as a good sign. We went in early October but the greens were still running very true. No winter tees or greens as well which was a benefit. As soon as we finished, a few of us said we’ll 100% be back to play again. I personally preferred the Hawkstone as it felt it had more interesting holes and a better backdrop (especially on hole 10)

Lovely course, beautiful countryside. Lots of variety, needs some thought. Greens were fabulous, smooth, but very receptive. Lots of blind tee shots, more than usual, quite tight and hilly, it’s a good walk. Altogether a cracking track, the better of two in my view
Dave
✓10 Oct 2022
Classic modern hotel course. Good use of water and some great risk and reward holes. Flatter of the two and an easier walk. Greens again we’re fantastic. Quite slow as some of the society players tackled the risk holes. Lacks facilities, at the half way point. Some green to tee walks were very muddy, but it did rain like hell the day before we played. Not a difficult track, but fun and rewarding

Fair course and testing. Only issue we had was group behind us hitting balls into us on 15th. Group in front of us were a 4 ball and had 2 buggies so was difficult to keep up especially having never played the course before.
David
✓26 Sep 2022
Difficult course but as expected. 31 points won which told story. Lads who played well on front or back 9 scored 16 or 17 points which showed course was fair. Faiway Bunkers in testing positions but thought pins were a bit unfair but this was most probably due to them being treated previous week and greenkeeper protecting them.

Different feel to the Hawkstone, the championship is more man made and is still establishing but good Challenge. They charge extra £20 to play Hawkestone over championship, both are equally good

Very relaxed, no starter, Hawkstone course off yellow tees was very enjoyable but becomes a proper challenge off the whites. NOTE small driving range but £4 for 30 balls is Excessive

Andy
✓28 Apr 2022
The course split opinion in the group, as we were told that the Hawkstone was the better course. This course is not as hilly, a number of holes over or around water, or worse. A very enjoyable course but in desperate need of some TLC as the teeing areas and bunkers need to be attention. The group all voted for a return to the venue after playing the Championship course. The girls in the pro shop could also benefit from a customer service course.
Andy
✓28 Apr 2022
A number of blind holes but the greens were very rapid and enjoyable. Some of the scenery is dramatic especially around the follies.
Glyn

Glyn

Martin
✓27 Apr 2022
Lots of water! The fairways I would have expected better condition for a championship course but it is only April. The first 9 are a completely different set up to the back 9 which keeps things interesting
Martin
✓27 Apr 2022
Great golf course. Would say the greens were too quick for our society; you should never putt in the green and end up off it! But the course itself was stunning and great scenery
Nick
✓26 Apr 2022
I had assumed that the Hawkstone course would be the lesser of the two courses, but our group actually preferred it. It must have had 10 holes that would qualify as signature holes on most courses - it was stunning and a delight to play.
Nick
✓26 Apr 2022
We played in strong winds and this made the course more challenging, but not impossible. There wasn't a great amount of heavy rough, which meant that balls could be found and the pace of play maintained. A great course with challenges for all levels of golfers.
Mark
✓24 Apr 2022
Much more open course with large bunkers which once again needed more sand or certainly better quality sand. Greens and fairways very good, less picturesque than hawkstone course but complemented it nicely giving a different challenge.

A totally different experience to the Hawkstone course - much more open in an American style course, wide fairways and open areas. Stunning water hazards interspersed amongst the back 9 definitely pose a challenge and force a risk/reward mentality.
Sebastian

Steve
✓1 Apr 2022

Christopher
✓13 Mar 2022

Gareth
✓2 Nov 2021
A very picturesque course in the shadow of The Follies with a few spectacular holes. Course was very wet when we played following heavy overnight rain and with lots of leaves blown onto fairways it was hard to spot the ball at times. This did not detract however from the enjoyment or challenge of negotiating a fairly short, but demanding layout with well positioned bunkers, blind tee shots and small targets.
Gareth
✓2 Nov 2021
First 9 holes are tree-lined, demaning accuracy off the tee. Back 9 you can open your shoulders and attack a little more but beware the numerous water hazards and well positioned bunkers. Greens ran true throughout with some subtle borrows making even short putts a challenge. Course held up well despite the heavy overnight downpours.

To explain above - if the Hawkstone Park course is Average - then this has to be hard - some wont agree. We were surprised by the amount of water on some greens. Pet hate - if you put a stream on a course KEEP IT CLEAR OF WEEDS especially in front of greens - nothing more frustrating on a course you dont know to hit a ball short and not find it in FRONT of the green because of all the growth and thick mud.
Robert
✓4 Oct 2021
I have played this course a few times before, it is always a joy - especially the views of the Follies.
Trevor
✓4 Oct 2021
Again considering the rain prior to arrival, course was in fantastic condition. Tougher layout than the Hawkstone, the front 9 through the trees, and the back 9 reminded me of the 2010 @Celtic Manor, and Formby Hall with all the water hazards, but still not too difficult for the average golfer. Amazingly fast greens again even in the wet conditions. Highly recommended.
Trevor
✓4 Oct 2021
Considering the rain that we had prior to arrival, the course was in amazing condition, greens were superb, and were very fast even in the wet conditions. Superb layout, not too difficult for the average golfer, with the 10th and 12th being the signature holes. Definitely recommended.

✓26 Sep 2021
First nine or so greens not as good as second 9. Rough and leaving the fairway very punishing, easy to lose balls. And some adjacent fairways can be dangerous with stray balls from other groups
Christopher
✓26 Sep 2021
Enjoyable, tricky undulating course. Balls easy to find in well trimmed rough. Watch out for balls from other groups
Graham

Found the course slightly easier than the championship Course

Once we navigated the trees and mastered the fast greens we got better.
Michael
✓23 Sep 2021
Well presented course as was the championship Again stuck behind the same 20 but playable Alliance this time There was a long hold up on the 3rd and then it came to a halt on the 9th where there 3 groups of on and waiting on a par 3 The ladies ststedyit was a mixed group of 3 ahead of their party that we’re holding everybody up Course marshalling is definitely required it really spoilt the round and we walked in after 16 although it was a long walk!
Michael
✓23 Sep 2021
Good test of golf, although some greens had been timed they were still well playable. We were stuck behind 5 groups of 4 ladies on the Sunday and they were playing Texas scramble We had to wait on every shot from the 3rd hole onwards ! Not happy

Kits on water on the championship course. Aldi the fairways ran towards the water. However played it well and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This course starts with trees and contours, before you play several holes around the large lake, that have lots of punishing bunkers. The greens were slower and not as pristine as the Hawkstone.

Loved this course too. Clubhouse provided adequate refreshments although we think there might have been a problem with the coffee machine , coffees bought were more like hot milk. We enjoyed our two rounds and one night at Hawkestone Park , would definitely return to the golf course not so sure about the hotel.

The course was good especially the greens and as it was windy certainly a challenge. The bunkers need overhauling with many of them without much sand and many with large stones. Overall good fun.
Steve
✓13 Aug 2021
Loved the course but slow (4 hours 45 mins for a two ball) as we were following two 4 balls who were very slow. Greens very slick and tricky so a real challenge. Would definitely come back and play this course which is prettier and probably in better condition.

✓10 Jul 2021
By far the most beautiful of the two courses. Playing towards the follies never gets old! Again the standard of the course was excellent, greens were in top shape. We found this course easier to score on. Fully recommend Hawkstone park for a short break. Just be prepared for the buggie prices hehe!
Andrew

So, me and my dads handicaps are 17 & 34 respectively, the course is difficult but more than makes up for with the standard it is kept at. We both agreed this was the real test out of the two courses.

We found this harder than the championship course - plenty of trees - very enjoyable though
Kelvin
✓24 Oct 2020
A beautiful course, great layout and setting. Again bunkers had been substantially abandoned- no reason for this. Tees a little scruffy, and greens had been slit, but fairways in good condition.
Kelvin
✓24 Oct 2020
this is a good course but it has been neglected over the last few months, scruffy tees and fairway's, average greens. The bunkers have been abandoned- this would not happen on a members course.
Allan
✓20 Oct 2020
Due to the recent weather conditions the ground was a little bit heavy under foot and the green were a little bobbly. But the course was very interesting beautiful scenery and a fair test for all handicaps
Allan

✓14 Oct 2020
This course has been around for over 100 years and is a very nice run. A little sedate until the 8th, at which point some of the holes come into their own, with long doglegs left and right, and with the rocky outcrops as backdrops to some very scenic holes. Recommended course, though also a little damp underfoot (played in early October), and by far the better of the 2 courses at the resort.
Stephen
✓14 Oct 2020
The layout is good, but due to heavy rain earlier in the week the course was very soggy, and in some areas should not have been played. Was very surprised to see the course allowed buggies as they were damaging the fairways. Of the two courses at Hawkstone Park it is definitely 2nd tier, but I'm sure would play well in dryer conditions.

Superb course. One of the best I’ve played. Lovely scenery, good diverse styles of holes. Would certainly rush back to have another go of this course, particularly in the summer.
Andrew
✓13 Oct 2020
The course was good. My only gripe would be the continued use of buggies despite the wet conditions. Certain fairways were really badly cut up which could have been avoided if the course withdrew the use of buggies. At £32 a go though, we wondered if they prioritised this over the condition of the course.
Geoff
✓12 Oct 2020
Despite the extreme rainfall the previous 2 days the course generally was in good condition The greens were not up to their normal high standard
Geoff
✓12 Oct 2020
The course had been subjected to torrential rain for a long period and as a result the fairways and other areas were saturated but the greens were excellent
Sean
✓11 Oct 2020
Absolutely superb! Was impressed by the championship course the day before but this was on another level. Some beautiful holes, a bit more to think about than the championship course. Well worth the money. Will be back.
Sean
✓11 Oct 2020
Course was great, really tough challenge off back tees. Shame it was so wet but not a lot they can do about that and would definitely come back and play again in the summer.
Ian
✓11 Oct 2020

Since my first visit some 45 years ago and all my visits since I’ve never failed to enjoy the views of and around the course , it brings back many happy memories of previous visits and I’m looking forward with anticipation for my next visit which I hope won’t be too far in the future , it was sad to see Pollard Oak has taken a battering since my last visit and is now just a ghost or the magnificent tree of previous years .

Stunning looking course winding around the cliff faces of Hawkstone park. Not long but tricky and fiddly requiring a lot of thought into shot making. Firm and fast greens.
Paul
✓28 Sep 2020
Really nice course, long and tight in places but opened out and the holes around the lake were spectacular. Despite recent treatment, the greens were fast and true. Little scruffy with no litter bins and rubbish left in piles, and the bunkers could have done with a rake.

George
✓20 Sep 2019
Not much longer on the card than the "Park" course, but played longer! Lot of water and wet in places. Greens faster than those on the Park course. LOT of uncollected grass cuttings on the fairways. Little or no sand in the fairway bunkers - apart from the stones, they played like bare ground. Ladies' tees felt like they were an afterthought - more often than not, tucked away to the side of the fairways. "Championship" course??? Perhaps in name....
George
✓20 Sep 2019
Probably one of the nicest settings for a golf course. Helps if you know your way around.... directions to next tee would be helpful in places. Bunkers - a lot of stones! We played ~1pm on Monday - had the course to ourselves!!

We found the blind holes testing!... but thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of a completely different type of course. A bit of wet around but nothing that got in our way. Signage still a problem in parts along with measure posts. Portaloo issue as above.
Sarah
✓6 Sep 2019
We very much enjoyed the wide fairways and the immaculate, if difficult, greens. The signage and distance markers were not always apparent. The portaloo needs shooting!.... it was disgusting. From a ladies' point of view we need separate facilities from the men. We do not understand why a venue which provides for loads of societies, playing in 3s or 4s use a scorecard which cannot accommodate clearly more than 2 scores. We suggest that this urgently needs amending.

David
✓22 Jul 2019
Shorter than the Championship but also challenging, with OOB or water threatening the wayward drive on several holes. Lots of blind drives - green not visible form the tee on about half the holes. Stunning scenery. Greens in great condition. (The course where Sandy Lyle learned his craft, his father being the club pro.
David
✓22 Jul 2019
Several greens had been hollow-tined which was a shame. Interesting challenge, with nice variety of holes - lots of water (Significantly in play on 8 holes, from memory) and sand, and a few steep hills to overcome, notably on the impossibly difficult 4th and closing hole, the latter being bit of a struggle at the end of a long round!
John
✓19 Jul 2019
We played as a two ball and Tee’d off at 08:50 with nobody in front of us and finished in 3 hours 15 minutes. Big society behind us but we never saw them again. The course was in excellent condition, same as the Hawkstone, and we definitely will visit again. Just hope we get lucky with the tee times. Good holiday golf course and worth a visit.
John
✓19 Jul 2019
Long round again due to many societies on the course. We were a two ball and would have appreciated benches on the tees for the many waits. Never offered a wave through and waited on every shot watching so-so golfers, some who are not really good enough to play these harder courses. We have come to expect this on now on these types of course.

✓3 Oct 2018
This was our 3rd visit to Hawkstone and it is a big favourite of ours. its plenty difficult enough for all grades of golfer without being severe on the ball supply which is why we love it.greens were a bit bumpy but overall good.we played preferred lies as there were some bare patches due to the very hot summer.
Dave
✓2 Oct 2018
A more difficult course than Hawkstone with several holes around the lake and some tight driving holes. Some great bunkering and greens quicker than Hawkstone. The two courses complimented each other well. Will be back next year for sure.

Front eight is good with some decent holes but the course come into its own on the back 9 around the follies and back to the clubhouse. Greens really pure and I never fail to be impressed. Good course on fantastic land.
