Heacham Manor Hotel is a cracking base for a Norfolk golf break, sitting around 10 minutes from the coast and the Norfolk Coast AONB, with King's Lynn only 20 minutes away by car. The main house has real character too, it started life as an Elizabethan manor before a full renovation in 2009 brought it up to modern hotel standards without losing that historic feel.

What you get today is a comfortable, well-finished Norfolk stay with plenty going on after the round, from the spa to a proper AA Rosette restaurant, plus extra leisure facilities close by at the sister resort. The golf course opened alongside the refurbishment in 2009 and quickly picked up a spot in Golf World's Top 100 stay-and-play resorts in the UK and Ireland, so you're getting a proper test without having to travel miles between hotel and first tee.

Who is this for?
Anyone after an easy, good-value Norfolk stay-and-play where you can play proper golf, eat well and still have something to do off the course. It suits mixed-ability groups, societies and couples who want a relaxed weekend without the stuffiness of some members' clubs.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-high handicappers and groups with a mix of abilities who'll appreciate the generous fairways off the tee and the variety between links-style front nine and parkland back nine. It's also ideal if you've got a few non-golfers in the party who'll make use of the spa and the nearby leisure resort while you're out playing.

Heacham Manor

The Heacham Manor Golf Course has two different characters – this is down to its stunning coastal location.

The 18-hole golf course is designed as an American-style links course and incorporates the natural features of the area of important landscape it lies within. It will certainly challenge all levels of golfer. It starts in a parkland style, heading up Redgate Hill through mature and newly planted trees. However this scenery soon changes to a links style with higher mounds, more shrubs and raised sloping greens which really add to the challenge and make for an enjoyable and contrasting round of golf.

At over 6,000 yards from the yellows and with some of the best greens in the area, the golf course provides not only an excellent test of your skill, but is also the perfect location for a round of golf surrounded by stunning scenery.

The course is perfect for all levels of golfer, as there are 5 different sets of tee positions. The back tees will stretch the course out to its championship length of over 7,000 yards, but the front tee boxes means that it can play to around 5,700 yards at its shortest.

A 9 hole course just a stone’s throw away at Searles Leisure Resort can also be used free of charge, as can all of the leisure facilities there.

Accommodation at Heacham Manor

The hotel has 52 guest rooms, with options ranging from family suites through to deluxe four-poster rooms, all en-suite and finished to a high standard. If you're coming as a society or mixed-ability group, it's the sort of set-up that works well, plenty of room types, good communal spaces and an easy post-round flow from locker room to bar to restaurant.

For downtime, The Mulberry Spa includes a Coyote Spa, steam room, monsoon shower and sauna. The thermal suite is available to residents and can be pre-booked from £10 per person per hour, and there's a solid menu of beauty treatments and alternative therapies if you want to turn your golf break into more of a golf-and-spa weekend. It's a nice option for couples or groups where not everyone wants 36 holes.

You also get access to the facilities at Searles Leisure Resort, about five minutes away by car, which is handy if not everyone in the group wants back-to-back rounds. Expect indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, gym, bars, restaurants and entertainment. It's particularly useful if you're bringing family or non-golfing partners who want their own itinerary.

Food is a real strength here. The Mulberry Restaurant holds an AA Rosette and regularly gets strong feedback from guests. Norfolk produce features heavily, with locally caught fish and seasonal veg, plus meat sourced from respected local estates including Royal Sandringham. Head Chef Dale Hurlimann keeps the menu fresh and the execution consistent, which matters when you're staying a few nights and eating in the same place. There's also a lounge bar and terrace overlooking the course and gardens, ideal for a relaxed drink after your round.

Finally, The Pavilion adds extra space and a more modern golf hub, with a function suite for up to 150, a private entrance and bar, plus a landscaped enclosed garden. It also houses seven suites, a golfer's bar facing a putting green, changing facilities and a pro shop. If you fancy a '19th hole' debrief, the first-floor bar and balcony give you great views back over the course, perfect for post-round analysis and a cold pint.

If you want to build this into a weekend package with guaranteed tee times, include Heacham Manor on your next Norfolk golf break.

Lovely spacious rooms with air-conditioning and had a great night's sleep. The bar had the football on and was a great night. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast the same. Couldn't recommend it enough. Absolute bargain for 2 rounds 2 course meal and breakfast. Would definitely book again with golf travel. Com.

We were treated extremely well by the staff, the course was in excellent condition and the food was the best I’ve experienced at any golf club restaurant. Thank you to everyone involved in making it a memorable experience.

Old manor style hotel, with rooms in the old manor and some newer rooms in the Pavilion. Our room was in the Pavilion, it was huge, with dressing gowns, tea coffee and biscuits, really nice. Good selection on the menu and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Brilliant, apart from our room, too small, no fridge or air con, but unfortunately this is not the room we asked for when we spoke with you, we asked for a cottage but got a cottage twin room

Our large garden room with patio and outside seating was very pleasant. Bathroom large and shower very good. Although we were allocated times for breakfast and dinner we had long waits in particular on the Sunday evening. Didn’t feel that it was appropriate to have breakfast in the drawing room on the Monday morning. The hotel was probably fully booked and the staff were apologetic for the long waits but it which wasn’t their fault. I do feel there was a shortage of staff as no obvious manager about to help or supervise in the dining room. We really enjoyed the quality food which is made to order. It was definitely value for money.

The accommodation and food was of a good standard. Service let them down, e.g. both nights one starter didn’t arrive until the others had finished theirs. We wouldn’t expect to pay a supplement for an item when it has been shared, i.e. 2 people only having one.Generally thought the staff needed better training.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating the room was okay but very hot the food was okay but not a la carte as the menu for a dinner bed and breakfast package never changed which was a little disappointing as lack of choice each evening but overall a nice place

Mulberry restaurant’s evening meal was by far the best 3 course meal I have ever had, 5 star.

A wonderful experience with a course that played extremely well considering the weather conditions prior to our arrival. The difficulty of coping with the wind was the main factor on the second day. However, it was a great experience. I would like to do it again next year.

Golf facilities are in the new pavilion, including small pro shop, stud bar with good dining facilities. Food and drink reasonably priced. Golf course is links styled and a fair test of golf, with well placed bunkers ditches and water hazards. Greens ran true despite having been recently dressed. We had a couple of nice days with light winds, this would be areaaly good test in a stronger wind. If I’m back in the area I would certainly play it again.
