Hellidon Lakes
The predominant feature is water, as the course's name suggests, with no fewer than 16 lakes placed strategically to attract wayward golf balls. The 220-acre landscape that is the backdrop to the golf course is in fact a nature reserve, and the wildlife and stunning panorama only serve to embellish the golfing experience. The course is fortunate to feature a cutting-edge irrigation system, designed to drain the greens effectively, ensuring that they roll true throughout the year.
At its longest, the golf course at Hellidon Lakes will measure over 6,100, and will challenge the better players, while the different combinations and tee markers ensure that the resort is perfect for golfers of every standard.

Room was really comfortable, staff were really friendly and helpful, there are good facilities - although you do have to pay extra for most things, and the food was fine. (Although there was a LOT of salt in the breakfast) it was just that the main bar and dining area was so beige! Just one big area with unpleasant yellow lighting and no character. With the dreary lift music on repeat, it definitely made the experience less enjoyable.
4 / 10
No sports bar open or spikes bar . Sports bar not manned or open on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Doesn’t feel like a golf resort at all , pro shop poor with hardly anything inside it .Hotel feels way too corporate, disappointing and would not return to stay at resort
8 / 10
Really disappointing that the sports bar does not have sky sports, especially when the Ryder cup was on.
8 / 10
Nice big hotel with plenty of space in the lounge/bar/restaurant area. Sports bar downstairs doesn't have a licence to show any sports so a bit disappointing. Bar is a bit pricey. Food at the restaurant for dinner was very good and breakfast was excellent.

But very quiet, but had a great time

The room i had was very quiet and easily accessible, bathroom was very clean, bed comfortable and furniture fit for purpose. Room would benefit from air conditioning, as it became increasingly warm during the night and perhaps a slightly larger TV would add to the experience. The breakfast and dinner were brilliant and the team workings these areas could not do enough for you, speaciol thanks to Vicky in the mornings with cutlery, informing when the refills were coming and advising what times were best to come down in the morning, great to see someone who really enjoys their role and take sand interest in the guests. Prebooking of dinner is a great idea, saves so much time for the hotel. Thought the shower supplies when a bit meagre as after a round as it would be good to wash without having to ration the soap etc

Incredibly friendly staff and a lovely quiet hotel. Rooms were clean and spacious with everything we needed and the meals were very good. Overall we were very pleased with our choice of getaway and will definitely return in the future. A beautiful area of the country.

Amazing value for money. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly. The 3 course meal was delicious.
4 / 10
The accommodation was alright, no fridge to put cooled drinks in or other items. The bath didn’t work, the shower didn’t have enough pressure in it. All the golfers said the same thing with the shower. The beds were standard. The food was a set menu which was to a good standard. On the Friday night , I think we were the only ones eating. The drinks were expensive and 20 % percent off make them normal price for hotel standards. One of the golfer had to leave on the Friday before playing golf, he received a phone call, family member had not been well. They got a taxi ( 2.5 hours) back home straight away, felt for him. Hellidon Lakes is not up to the standard it should be. Recommend Your golf travel agent should go and see for yourself !

I paid extra for single occupancy as normal, however my room was right next to the function room which had a loud disco, so didn’t get any sleep till midnight, room was nice tho.
8 / 10
Great golf course. Really friendly, helpful staff.
Bowling alley is superb
One thing we queried was the use of the swimming pool and spa facilities. We were quoted £20 for use of the pool??
Overall very enjoyable stay and would welcome the opportunity to play the course again anytime
6 / 10
Pls be warned no pool or spa is included. You pay extra.
Golf was OK. Lots of gur as greens not looked after well.
Food is good.
Rooms are small and the twin beds so small you can fall over.
8 / 10
Well organised - but rooms could do with upgrades of air conditioning and fridge in room. Ten pin bowling alley good fun

Poor rude staff, food quality very poor. Place was falling apart.

The hotel was lovely, staff really helpful but did have to go looking for them a couple of times at the bar and restaurant.Overal really good.
8 / 10
We had a lovely time and staff were very polite and friendly.
10 / 10
Whole trip worked well for a group of 32 golfers. Easy to check in , comfortable rooms, plentiful breakfast, good evening meal with a good choice range, Bars and seating areas very comfortable and welcoming. Staff all helpful, attentive and polite. Only gripe, as usual these days, no bitter in the bar - why are beer drinkers being penalised?
10 / 10
The staff were exceptional throughout our stay and in all areas. I can't speak highly enough of them.
8 / 10
The staff at the hotel were great, very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The evening meal was excellent and the buffet breakfast was one of the best I have had everything was fresh and hot.
6 / 10
The hotel was clean and well presented , the rooms were absolutely fine apart from I requested a double bed but only go 2 singles the rest of my group had no regrets
The restaurant was ok breakfast was ok but the evening set menu was very limited even more so when they ran out of beef having said that the quality was good
The bar was tiny and massively expensive £7.00 a pint also had to queue a lot as sharing it with a wedding party
Not the greatest of stays coupled with our other problems but I will say the staff especially the manageress went above and beyond to help us
10 / 10
We arrived on Sun 22nd Sept during a lull in the rain. We fully expected to be told the course was closed but quite the reverse. We were able to play the Hellidon course and had the option of the lakes or valley. We did not play on the Monday due to the continuing rain. However the whole experience was the best the hotel could do under the extreme weather conditions. Our evening meal and breakfast were excellent as was the bar by the restaurant. Would highly recommend this venue.
6 / 10
Hotel facilities were good golf course not so .front 9 was very difficult back nine better, the flag system we had no idea where the flags were on the greens ( no indication ) electric buggies were not kept clean left under trees not value for money £35 a round, we asked for a double bed and got two singles also a walk in shower got a bath, we also asked for the room to have A nice view and got one facing the bin collection area staff were very friendly,if I had been staying longer wound have asked to change the room. We asked for a rubber shower Matt and one was brought to the room also the shower was leaking badly and got repaired it.
But in saying all that we enjoyed our stay quality of food very good 😊
8 / 10
Great staff and a lovely location for two nights away from the hustle and bustle. The staff were fantastic (special thanks to Emma, Craig, Megan, Myia, Lucy and Vicky). Vicky deserves a special thanks for looking after 16 hungry golfer in search of a full English breakfast!!
8 / 10
The hotel was very good. Excellent food, nice rooms and very good leisure facility. Courteous staff made our trip enjoyable.
8 / 10
Great location great value for money. Only problem was a number of mix ups with golf buggies. For our group and others. Ours was resolved. Other than that great stay
8 / 10
Wonderful staff with special mention for Craig, duty manager who went out of his way to look after us and remedy a couple of issues we experienced.
Main issue was having to request for our party’s rooms to be made up rather than it being done automatically, not a good practice!
Secondly, being charged £20 per person to use the spa when several components of it were not working, which resulted in me complaining and guests receiving a 50% price reduction because of this.
10 / 10
Nice room everything you need, as only stayed one night didn't need a view.
8 / 10
Nice hotel, everything you would expect
8 / 10
The hotel is in a lovely setting and and easy to get to. The evening meal was lovely and the breakfast well stocked with something for everyone. The bedrooms were ok and air conditioned however a “superior twin” was a double pushed apart with 10cm between them so that could have been better. The beds could have been better as they were soft and didn’t feel hotel quality.
Now onto the staff. I have given a 3 star as an overall which is unfair to the restaurant staff, they were awesome, very attentive and seemed happy to be there. This is in stark contrast to the guy who was on reception when we checked in. If he was an example of the staff I would have scored it a 1. He was rude, condescending and spoke to us like dirt, every single member of the party commented on his bad attitude.
Overall the value for money was good and the experience after check in was fantastic

10 / 10
Great stay, food was good and the terrace bar is great. Bowling was a bonus and the spa is nice.
6 / 10
Welcome was not so good, guy on reception was almost rude.
Breakfast quality was average at best, example being Fried eggs were out far too long should be checked more frequently.
6 / 10
A great location and lovely staff but my trip was marred by being allocated a room above a wedding reception’s disco which meant that the excessively thudding bass noise of rave music on Saturday night until midnight impacted on a fully enjoyable stay. The hotel receptionist told me next morning to take up my issue with Your Golf Travel even the hotel allocated me this room. Beware of such shoddy room allocation when checking in.
8 / 10
The Hotel was very busy with 350 Tesco delegates on 16th. Impression was that there were not sufficient staff at times at the busy points.
There was a significant issue on 15th as the Golf Pro did not turn up for work so the Pro Shop was closed. This left the Reception to deal with angry golfers, some being abusive. The main problem was that booked or otherwise buggies were not available. As they did not stock electric trollies my husband was unable to play.
We had a sandwich lunch on 15th.. I had a cheese sandwich which consisted of 3 ‘Kraft’ cheese slices. I did show it to the chef who apologised. The evening meal was really good and because of all the fuss during the day the Receptionist Hayley - worth her weight in gold - gave us a complimentary bottle of Prosecco.
6 / 10
Minimal bar staff on swimming pool out of action staff that was on not very helpful at all.
8 / 10
with numerous golfing groups and a wedding, they need more bar staff to serve their customers, spent too long queuing. In addition with the football and rugby world cup showing downstairs in the sports bar, they didn't open/man the bar in here until gone 11pm when the upstairs bar closed. so if you anted a drink whilst watching the sport you had to go back upstairs. Apparently this is to keep the noise down for the rest of the hotel guests after 11pm, which is ironic give the noise of people up and down the corridors outside the bedrooms all night through to around 04:30!

Overall fairly poor. Golfers are down the pecking order compared to the weddings. Average food, the best food probably the small lunch menu. A lot of things are in need of maintenance/updateand the hotel looks tired. The bar is expensive. The bowling was a good addition but half tye lanes broken down. There's no spa facilities open and according to the hotel hasn't been for 2 years, which is very disappointing when it is advertised on the site. Staff try to help but management disinterested.
8 / 10
Great golf course very hilly slopping greens good challenge hotel huge was not busy rooms clean and good standard staff very polite
4 / 10
Unfortunately this wasn’t a pleasant experience for us, the hotel lacked attention and we were not informed that the spa facility was under renovation so no sauna or steam room and treatments required at least 48 hours notice. Our twin room turned out to be a double which meant we had to move and we were then placed in a smaller room with no air-conditioning and no telephone. We had air-conditioning units running outside the bedroom windows all night and had to sleep with a fan on. The evening meal was very sub standard and when I sent my fish back for being over cooked and dry was informed it would be 15 minutes to recoil something (leaving my partner eating alone) so I accepted the offer of keeping the same meal! Considering there was only 5 people in the restaurant at the time it was appalling service. Thankfully the breakfast made up for it and our waitress Vicky was wonderful and friendly. No wonder she’d been working there 15 years she clearly loved her job and was perfect for hospitality.
2 / 10
Under staffed
Never answer the phone
Pro shop never open
Course was very busy
Day 2 round took nearly 6 hours
10 / 10
Hotel was really great, no issues. There was a lot of noise at night from a wedding party, but We had no problem with sleepng. but I would probably advice, when such functions are on, let guests know during check in.
2nd thing is we happended to be staying on the hottest weekend of the year. Room had no air con? But an fan. which got us through the night. Could have been very uncomfortable for most.
10 / 10
We had a great stay at the hotel staff were fantastic rooms clean and comfortable. Our only issue was that at the bar no cash could be taken but I suppose that is a sign of the times
6 / 10
Overall we had a good weekend. But the sports bar, swimming pool and leisure facilities all closed. So we did feel that we didnt get value for money. Course very tough but interesting. Thanks. The hotel management did say we should ask for a voucher to make up for the facilities being closed. Food very good and service.
8 / 10
Hotel was pretty big. The bedrooms and en-suite was very spacious. The staff was very friendly especially Vicki. Only problem was there was no notification that the pool and sauna was under refurbishment. The food was ok and drinks average hotel prices.
10 / 10
Very good stay. Great rooms.
8 / 10
Rooms clean and spacious. Bars and restaurant very nice , food very good quality.
Tennis court and bowling alley on site which was great. Swimming pool and spa are was closed for refurbishment so that was unfortunate. Overall a good venue.
10 / 10
10 out of 10 superb from the minute we arrived to when we left
8 / 10
Hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are fine and shower pressure was great (not what other reviews had said). A view overlooking the course would have been nice as the hotel was virtually empty when we stayed. Dinner was very nice-food was delicious. Bar prices don't need to be so high. Buffet breakfast was good but the self-serve hot food was removed 30 minutes before breakfast ended so you couldn't go up for any seconds-not a big deal but don't advertise a buffet if it's not going to be. Overall a great stay
6 / 10
Rooms were good.
Only informed that the pool was closed when we checked in.
One of the reasons we booked this hotel was it had a pool.

Good venue and course condition. Food decent too - investment in pro shop would be worthwhile
10 / 10
We were disappointed about some of the facilities such as swimming pool etc not being available
10 / 10
All good
8 / 10
Hotel was very good, spa facility and bowling alley not open. Management require more bar staff. Could be waiting up to 20 minutes to order a drink.
Overall a good experience.
6 / 10
I booked the weekend for my sons 40th birthday as a present, to be shared with his best friend. Having paid a considerable cost for 2 nights stay including breakfast and 3 rounds of golf, I found the overall costs and promised facilities pricey and misleading.
This was booked over 3 months ago through an agency. It promised spa, swimming pool, gym, plenty of bars, even a bowling alley. But in reality without any word from the hotel or booking agency the spa and swimming pool area was closed for refurbishment!… The option of bars were minimal as the bar area in bowling alley was taken over by some high flyer on the Saturday evening, ensuring that it was as good as out of bounds to general public. After booking a bowling slot on the Saturday evening, this too was impossible, by the taking over of the alley area by afore mentioned high flying local celeb!..the only bar available was upstairs far from general area where we fancied sitting! Therefore zero facilities were sampled during our stay of 2 nights, 3 days… even the rounds of golf were slowed down and became frustrating after waiting on course for over 40 minutes on some holes due to in house competitions at times. The grounds promise good holes, but it looked tired and scruffy on some holes at times… some feedback would be good, especially after it was purchased as a surprise weekend present at a considerable cost ! Staff very friendly, food was just excellent, rooms good .just a bit disappointed that As I organised the break for four rooms,we We was the only ones that didn’t have a view of the golf course.

10 / 10
A beautiful location stunning views, excellent staff nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful well presented food.
8 / 10
Apart from the ever closed pool and spa, which when booking back in March we were pretty sure would open, cannot fault the place.
4 / 10
Really sad to say that my birthday gift to my partner at this hotel was not the pleasant stay we hoped. We were horrified to find our bathroom had not been cleaned with the bath covered in hairs where someone had obviously shaved. It was covered!
The food was good but limited.....but we were told afterwards that we could have upgraded for a better menu. Would have been great to know this before the meal.
We were then kept awake all night by rowdy guests outside our window.
After our round of golf on Sunday we returned to the hotel for a drink and lunch to find that all the doors were locked but no sign to explain why.
Its such a shame as the golf course was amazing.
8 / 10
Hotel was great , rooms superb.
The sports bar was shut on the Friday, even though hotel was busy, we had to ask for it to be opened.
The price of the soft drinks was shocking , £3.75 for a pint of pump cola is not good.
10 / 10
Hotel staff friendly, dinner and breakfast very good.
10 / 10
Apart from the bedroom being a bit tired , it was clean and well serviced. The view across the countryside from my room was a bonus. The restaurant was excellent - all in our party enjoyed their food and drink. The staff were lovely - helpful and jolly.
8 / 10
The hotel is very good. Iv'e marked it down for a few reasons, firstly we were given accommodation in the roof space, this presented twp issues, i kept banging my head on the valleys that form part of the roof as I had to duck down to get to me bed. The other issue this caused was the shower pressure was very poor, it just dribbled out, other than that, the room was alright. Iv'e just returned from Turkey were the overall facilities were excellent so I know a good hotel when I stay at one. The staff were excellent and special mention to the catering manager who went out of her way to help us. Breakfast was good as was were the evening meals. The SPA and pool was unavailable which was a disappointment to most of my guests. The golf was very picturesque and we all loved it, one criticism was that the greens were very spongy, they did cut them on Saturday morning which improved them. If we stay there again,. it won't be on the third floor.
8 / 10
The hotel was well suited for a golfing weekend. The food was of a high standard and the bar/restaurant staff were very attentive & helpful. The Sports Bar & Bowling Alley are a really good touch and not something I've seen at other hotels. The rooms were spacious & had everything you would need. The rooms were extremely warm however and air conditioning would have been very helpful.
8 / 10
We were in room 167, a twin which was a good size for the two of us. Clean & comfy with a decent shower in a good size bathroom. Crap view from the window but didn't really matter as we were out most of the time.
Food in the restaurant was excellent, good choice & good quality, served by friendly & polite staff. Only downside was the price of a pint at over £6 each, not justified.
8 / 10
Hotel is in a lovely setting. It’s clean and well staffed. We were on a midweek golf break so the hotel was very quiet. The breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious. The evening meal we had was also very enjoyable.
10 / 10
Great staff and food choice excellent
10 / 10
Very enjoyable weekend could not fault the hotel from the friendly staff and the excellent food a great weekend was had by my party of 16 would recommend
10 / 10
Very good accommodation staff were very polite and helpful
6 / 10
Our room was clean but quite old-fashioned and the bed was not very comfortable as two single beds had been put together to make a double, making an uncomfortable ridge down the middle. Whilst we found the food in the restaurant was good, the restaurant itself was almost completely empty and void of any atmosphere and it felt as though we were eating in an open plan office building! We thought that the staff were not particularly friendly or welcoming. Most disappointingly though, the pool and spa facilities were all closed - a fact that we were not made aware of until after we had booked the hotel and even after reading on the Golf travel website that the spa facilities was a ‘good reason to choose this hotel’.
8 / 10
Fantastic course and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The only negative was the food which was average.
8 / 10
Lacking staff and card only apart from that all good
8 / 10
Very nice and well tuned for golfers
8 / 10
Everything you need for a golf break, rooms were tidy & clean and food was good. Only negative was the bar was understaffed and when busy it took too long to get a drink. That's not a reflection on the staff as they were great and did their best but could of done with more help at peak times, especially the sports bar.
8 / 10
Food was great. Staff were friendly if a bit thin on the ground. Perhaps they are short staffed along with a lot of other hospitality venues. All the Spa facilities were shut for maintenance. Rooms were fine.
8 / 10
The rooms were clean and spacious although a little dated.

Rooms great, but because Covid sports bar open to watch football but no service (so unusable really!) Obviously short staffed and not the staff working fault but slow to get served for drinks and at table(s) for dinner.
4 / 10
We had a room that looked like it was decorated in the 80s, the bathroom had a really noisy extractor fan. The Laminated floor that was pulling away. We found not even order room service with out having to pay for it over the phone.
The staff were under trained they seemed to have no idea on how to work a restaurant and come across rude. Considering the restaurant was empty, the service was very slow. I was told off when I approached the buffet to pick up a banana. She had to pick it up place it on a plate then pass it to me.
The food was really good very well cooked and presented.
The spar was not open.
The pool was not open
The bowling alley was not open
If we knew this before booking I would of gone elsewhere. Very disappointed 😔

Group of 24 paying our second visit. Staff coped very well in spite of the covid restrictions.
Leisure facilities closed due to refurbishment.

Comfortable stay.
10 / 10
The rooms for my group were very nice. We did have 2 double rooms booked and 5 twin rooms, as we paid for 2 single supplements but we ended up with all twin rooms. Covid friendly hotel.
8 / 10
Very comfortable & pleasant
10 / 10
The hotel was well organised to deliver a good service in the bar and dining room. We did not have to wait long for our meals to be served and the quality of the food was excellent.
8 / 10
Staff well organised and friendly. Food OK. In the circumstances this was a very enjoyable stay
8 / 10
Staff did really well with all the restrictions - kept up pretty well with table service etc. Dinner was very nice. Overall really decent value for money.
8 / 10
Good weekend here and great value for money. Hotel and the golf courses were above what we expected to be honest, especially the golf courses which were challenging but good fun.
6 / 10
Covid restrictions seemed to place the bar serving staff under some pressure, we experienced a mix of service from poor to excellent. Food was variable eg beef extremely tasty, Eton Mess horrible.
8 / 10
Overall stay was very good, staff excellent, my only grumble was bar prices, 2 coffees 2 beers 1 medium wine, £23.95, which I thought was horrendous
10 / 10
Only marked the hotel down as the golf lounge and bar were both closed, undergoing redecoration at the time of our stay. The only moan is that we were not told about this when booking.
8 / 10

Being a main holiday time i.e Easter, we were surprised how quiet it was. Overall it was ok, however, dinner on our first night was a little frustrating as the service was a bit disjointed. For example we had to ask ref what our subsidised amount was and it was like an after thought, that should be an initial brief? Bread rolls had to be asked for and weren’t presented on initial sit down, that took over 20 mins to arrive and didn’t come with our starters when we really could have required them. Starter plates weren’t cleared prior to our mains arriving which is pretty sloppy in our opinion. At times we thought we were in Farley Towers!
Evening 2 was more cohesive and like to thank Oli our waiter for his service and courtesy throughout.

The hotel and course where good but there were a few things that could be improved upon.
The room was very hot on check-in and continued to be throughout the stay. The rooms weren’t as nice as the last time we stayed.

The hotel is around 20 mins away from the motorway. All of our rooms were clean and tidy. They were all very hot though, so we slept with the windows open. Lovely views over the local countryside and the golf course. All the food we had in the evening was delicious, the only exception being the cheesecake. Breakfast was super, lots of choice and all decent quality. Staff were friendly throughout our stay.

Hotel was comfortable with very good facilities, the rooms allocated to golfers are in the old section and are a bit dated. The bar prices are way to high. Breakfast and dinner was a very good quality but but dinner portion sizes were to small.
