Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club

At 6846 yards from the Championship tees this course is rated with a par of 72, and threads its way through some testing hazards and bunkers whilst also offering some gloriously undulating fairways.

Threatening woodland and intimidating water will pose a challenge, but good strategy and accurate hitting will definitely be rewarded. Those not scoring well need not despair, however, as the course's location affords spectacular views over the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland's stunning coastline.

The demanding 4th is the signature hole at Linden Hall, where brave golfers must carry the ball over water to a green that is tightly guarded by trees. With water in play on 9 of the 18 holes, you really do need to make sure your accuracy is at it’s best.

Lovely hotel, facilities are a bit old. Room heater was quite noisy and the drainage on the wash basin wasn’t too good either

The hotel did not have our party of 8 booked in when we arrived It was a stressful 10 minutes but eventually they prepared 4 x twin rooms (luckily they were avavailable!!). They did put right the error so all was well in the end but was the fault made by the hotel or Your Golf Travel?

The deal was all around the Ryder cup, there was 3 parties there, so about 50 golfers and the was only one tv in the corner of the bar to watch the golf, so more than half the people couldn’t see the golf

Hotel was probably a very grand house in its day but pretty tired now. Room was a bit shabby although beds comfortable enough. Arm chairs had seen better days and carpet was rather manky looking (I didn’t want to walk on it in bare feet). Bathroom clean but trying to cover up black grime with white silicone along bottom of where tiles meet the bath is not a good idea. Breakfast good, dinner mixed. Cold black pudding bon bons and the chicken seemed to be cooked in the same way no matter what dish we had (chicken tikka was a roasted chicken breast with a sauce over it so definitely not as described). Portions were too large for us & a bit off putting). Didn’t like that you had to leave the hotel building to go to The Linden Tree for dinner. Ok if weather is fair but not so much if it was raining. My husband struggles with mobility so this was just a hassle we could have done without. Probably won’t return.

The only real issue was the condition of the tee boxes

We had a great round, Jonathan who I had spoken to previously on the telephone was very friendly and helpful. He gave the ladies a lot of information about the choice of golf balls appropriate to their game and skills. A great course

Course is a beautiful setting but a real shame when you spend all that money and have to play off some winter tees. All par 3s were off mats that weren’t level too. The tee boxes were in terrible condition. The course was busy so it’s clear that they do not reinvest into it. The greens had weeds growing through them. Some bunkers were ground under repair too. Didn’t see one greenkeeper all weekend either. Much needed TLC! I would understand if this was after a winter but the fact it’s been summer and such minor details were wrong. It has the potential to be a brilliant course. I played here 15 years ago and was looking forward to coming back but I was left gutted.

Clearly a great golf course. Nice pro shop, facilities and challenging but rewarding course. However the tee boxes were appalling and many of the greens were very poor. Greenkeepers obviously doing there best but lacking resources to maintain key areas of course. Disappointed a lot of our better golfers and experience. Unfortunately it reflects on YGT at that price point if that is the quality of course condition on offer. However, probably overall, value for money experience was fair.

Nice welcome in the pro shop on 3 of our 4 rounds. On Saturday we were met with a very rude & unpleasant female member of staff who didn’t seem to care much about anything, if she could have thrown our buggy key at us I’m sure she would have but she had to go get the buggy and just drove it round & stomped off without as much as a ‘have a good round’. What can I say about the course, nice mix of holes, interesting par 3’s, though long distances between a few of the green to tees. Course dry but to be expected and fairways played more like a links course than parkland. Few of the greens were a bit diseased and they were a bit slow bumpy at times but nothing too bad, I’d rate the course as fair condition EXCEPT THE TEES which were in a SHOCKING CONDITION. I have never seen a course in this condition, it’s like the green staff have just given up on them and allowed them to die. One tee out of 18 had live grass, 2 mats & 15 bare ground covered in sand and grass seed - no sign of any watering though. Did spoil our enjoyment & likely we wouldn’t return. I would have attached some photos but there wasn’t an option to do so, so I’ve sent a summary to your customer services email address.

Some very interesting holes enjoyed the test. Course was in good condition considering water shortage due to weather we have had. All in all my wife and I had a great time will definitely visit again.
