Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club
At 6846 yards from the Championship tees this course is rated with a par of 72, and threads its way through some testing hazards and bunkers whilst also offering some gloriously undulating fairways.
Threatening woodland and intimidating water will pose a challenge, but good strategy and accurate hitting will definitely be rewarded. Those not scoring well need not despair, however, as the course's location affords spectacular views over the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland's stunning coastline.
The demanding 4th is the signature hole at Linden Hall, where brave golfers must carry the ball over water to a green that is tightly guarded by trees. With water in play on 9 of the 18 holes, you really do need to make sure your accuracy is at it’s best.

The deal was all around the Ryder cup, there was 3 parties there, so about 50 golfers and the was only one tv in the corner of the bar to watch the golf, so more than half the people couldn’t see the golf

Hotel was probably a very grand house in its day but pretty tired now.
Room was a bit shabby although beds comfortable enough. Arm chairs had seen better days and carpet was rather manky looking (I didn’t want to walk on it in bare feet).
Bathroom clean but trying to cover up black grime with white silicone along bottom of where tiles meet the bath is not a good idea.
Breakfast good, dinner mixed. Cold black pudding bon bons and the chicken seemed to be cooked in the same way no matter what dish we had (chicken tikka was a roasted chicken breast with a sauce over it so definitely not as described). Portions were too large for us & a bit off putting). Didn’t like that you had to leave the hotel building to go to The Linden Tree for dinner. Ok if weather is fair but not so much if it was raining. My husband struggles with mobility so this was just a hassle we could have done without.
Probably won’t return.

Nice hotel good facilities just not to our liking.Would have been nice to going we had been told it was card only payment in both hotel and golf and also the pub.

Great accommodation and food at hotel, staff were excellent in all areas. This was our third stay here. Really worth a visit, looked after very well.

We enjoyed our stay at Linden Hall. Staff were friendly, the Manor House interesting.
Good choice at breakfast, in the lovely Dobson room. Although did object to paying a heavy supplement on some cooked options, other than the full breakfast.
The room was clean, if a little small. Made use of the pool & sauna, especially after a round of golf.
Good choices at the Linden pub for dinner, food was enjoyable. Staff were approachable and attentive.

The hotel is in a beautiful location, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was very good. Will return in the summer

Having planned the trip well in advance, we did encounter a problem with rooms, having a number of the 23 strong group having to swap rooms for the second night. Again a pairing of father and daughter were given a double bed and had to wait 40+ mins in reception to sort the problem out. Some minor issues with frozen bread one evening with the soup, rectified quickly with no fuss by the staff. One bowl of soup was cold, and mushy peas were served a good 5-10 mins after the rest of the fish 'n' chips, but on the whole the food was pretty good and a decent choice of starters, mains and desserts for each day. Staff were friendly from reception, to bar and pub staff. The separate pub/building on the grounds was a nice edition next to the main hotel. We ate upstairs on our own as a group the first night which was good, but the following 2 x nights were in the main room on separate tables which was a bit disappointing. There were weddings on site who seemed to take priority over a golf group! The hotel is a little dated, but guess its part of the charm. No real complaints from 23 golfers.

We found that the bar wasn’t open in the evening and had to go to the pub. One member of staff there told us after we’d sat down, that we couldn’t sit in the raised area as the area was being cleaned. We therefore decamped to the lower floor only to be then told that we could sit in the raised area after all!

The British weather was forecast very wet but we escaped with a few showers and a cold wind at the end of August!!!!! However the venue was warm and welcoming. On arrival staff was great and check in easy. Rooms were very good, clean and had tea and coffee facilities. Use of the spa was a bonus. The Linden Tree pub, where our evening meal was served was excellent. Breakfast in the hotel was a little slow due to a large wedding group also staying. All 24 enjoyed their stay. We would recommend it.

We were forced out of our booking at Slaley Hall by YGT. Eventually Linden was chosen as a replacement. Fortunately we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Linden except, Leo Charlton assured me we would have our evening meals in the Dobson Restaurant, (I have his email claiming to have spoken to the hotel)we couldn’t . The manager informed me only corporate events have dinner in that restaurant - extremely disappointed.
What is YGT going to compensate ??
8 / 10
Good hotel, nice clean rooms with great beds/pillow, bathroom a little dated but still very clean.
Great on site pub to relax after golf and for the evening, food was all very tasty, the only downside for the golfers menu was the lack of choice, obviously down to budget. All the hotel and pro shop staff were very friendly and helpful.
6 / 10
The hotel is situated in lovely countryside and we were made very welcome on arrival. There are some very good facilities at the hotel however I would say that the bedrooms were looking a bit tired and the bathroom in our room needed some attention. The linden tree pub situated near the hotel was very good and the service was excellent. The breakfast in the morning was very good in a lovely dining room however the conservatory next to it was closed and again looked as if it needed some attention. The value of our package was great. The drink in the main hotel is expensive.

Twin room comfortable, clean and functional
10 / 10
Fantastic all round. Stayed and played golf so didn't use the spa, but I can only go off the rest of the hotel and assume it too would be nice
10 / 10
The room's were great, you can use the spa If you want. The Linden tree pub was great. The only complaint we had was the 3 course meal the portions were a little on the small size for hungry golfers in from the course. The food quality was fine.
4 / 10
Staff and food were excellent.
Hotel is a bit rundown.
10 / 10
Excellent, including the condition of the golf course and the Pro shop staff.
8 / 10
Probably the best part of the trip, reception staff welcoming and helpful, good rooms, food in Linden Tree Pub excellent, similarly breakfast in the hotel.
6 / 10
Rooms were neat, tidy and comfortable although they looked a bit dated. Staff were excellent and catered for all our group.
8 / 10
Clean room although dated, comfortable bed. Staff attentive and friendly. Disappointed restaurant not open for dinner. Had to use Linden tree pub for dinner Pub food which was adequate. Breakfast excellent.
6 / 10
Hotel was nice - staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms a bit dated. The prices for food and drink were extortionate though - nearly £25 for a bacon roll and coffee for 3. One of the staff told us that a lot of guests end up getting taxis to the pub a mile up the road because of the prices.

The hotel was amazing and the staff were top of their game. The food was excellent in the evening and the breakfast set us up for the following days golf. Thank you so much for making our break fun and fantastic value keep up the good work and yes I will book through you a again in a heartbeat have a great weekend Paul.🏌🏻♂️

8 / 10
Hotel was good as expected. Good facilities, only negative was the allowance for dinner £18 which didn’t really cover the prices.
8 / 10
Hotel was quiet, comfortable and clean despite the room being a little dated. Spa was excellent and a nice place to relax after a round of golf or country walk. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The only downside was the menu, which didn’t really cater for vegan or vegetarian dietary requirements.
8 / 10
Excellent value deal. Hotel etc. first class.just one slight concern, the word dinner in description of offer is,in fact, an £18 allowance which does not cover the price of a main course in the dining room.Perhaps this should be made clear in ad for golf trip as it could be construed as misinformation in advert. Please do not regard this as a complaint,as the golf break is excellent value.

Lovely location ...hotel looks a bit tired but we still enjoyed the trip
8 / 10
Nice room plenty of space. Restaurant a little limited in its menu choice but food good. Spa a bonus and took advantage of the spa whilst there
10 / 10
First time staying at Linden Hall was a great experience. All staff really friendly and very helpful. Will definitely be returning.
6 / 10
The accommodation was good but looking a bit tired. Golf course very long and greens need attention. We have played municipal courses with better greens
8 / 10
Great stay and the golf was good as well only thing was the pub was being refurbished that’s part of the hotel so that was just disappointing but overall staff really friendly and were very happy to help in any way I would go there again !!
8 / 10
Very comfortable and close to the golf course food excellent

8 / 10
A nice stay , room was nice, spa was fine, golf course was ok if a little slow, food was great in the restaurant as was breakfast ( if again a little slow), the only negative point really was the green light in our room which stayed in all night and spoiled our sleep and a disfunctional flow control on our shower which made things a little tricky, despite this I would recommend this place.
8 / 10
Very old hotel set in beautiful grounds. The rooms were needing a bit of TLC but were clean and presentable. Staff were excellent.
6 / 10
Evening meal was bland and staff in the pub unhelpful - one room did not have hot water in the shower this was reported but not rectified and the occupants were not offered alternative accomadation
8 / 10
Great staff food 2 lads in pro shop excellent

Good hotel, nice clean room. excellent friendly staff. Only downside we couldn't eat in the conservatory due to staff shortage. Apart from that overall very good.
10 / 10
We loved this weekend away at Linden Hall and shall definitely return. The staff were very helpful food of a good standard. Only criticism would be the cost of alcohol which was a little on the expensive side.
8 / 10
Room was compact, clean and had everything we needed. Exterior of hotel and signage needs some TLC.
Staff were very obliging and pleasant. Food in both the bar and the restaurant was very good.
8 / 10
Great place and excellent staff
Rooms need updating
8 / 10
Room bit basic and limited facilities.
Expensive food at additional cost as pub booked was not bring used. Limited expensive menu only option
10 / 10
Comfortable twin room with usual facilities. Staff exceptionally friendly despite masks having to be worn everywhere. Pub was good, although no food in there. A good overall experience.
10 / 10
The hotel was lovely staff very friendly the cocktail bar didn’t sell draft beer which was a downfall
6 / 10
Hotel is a little tired.
Wine is expensive
Could do more with the venue
6 / 10
Staff were very friendly food good and rooms comfortable.
6 / 10
This is the first time my son and I have stayed here, and staid is how I would describe the hotel. Room was of a reasonable size but furniture was old and worn. However, it was clean, but the shower would go scalding hot without warning. We were looking forward to a 3 course meal in the Linden tree pub but it does not serve food on a Wednesday when we stayed. We were 'upgraded' to the restaurant and given a £25 allowance each. This meant our 3 course went out of the window as starters and desserts were £8 each and the main courses just under £20. The food was very nice, though presented in a slightly pretentious way. Tasting the wine from a screw top bottle is unnecessary.
10 / 10
Charming hotel with lovely staff, rooms were comfortable and very clean, swimming pool, sauna and steam room very good.
6 / 10
Rooms were clean and fit for purpose. Not enough plug points to accommodate battery/phone chargers etc but otherwise fine. Food budget was low with very limited choice without paying extra and drinks in the cocktail bar were very pricey
8 / 10
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Linden. Everything is very convenient, the staff were very helpful and polite. Enjoyed the spa facilities and had a very good breakfast. The meal in the Linden Tree pub was ok and good value. The £10 voucher per person and the 20% off drinks was really appreciated and made the whole package excellent value.
8 / 10
Shower was a little hit and miss temperature wise , breakfast was very good but maybe a little more effort could be made for golfers starting early in the way of being able to order to take something out if you are struggling for a formal breakfast . Beer was a an issue in the linden pub as the lager was flat
10 / 10
Fantastic venue for a golf society trip. Staff on the course and in the hotel couldn’t be nicer, food very good, golf course in fabulous condition considering we went early October. We will definitely be back for more.
