At 6846 yards from the Championship tees this course is rated with a par of 72, and threads its way through some testing hazards and bunkers whilst also offering some gloriously undulating fairways.
Threatening woodland and intimidating water will pose a challenge, but good strategy and accurate hitting will definitely be rewarded. Those not scoring well need not despair, however, as the course's location affords spectacular views over the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland's stunning coastline.
The demanding 4th is the signature hole at Linden Hall, where brave golfers must carry the ball over water to a green that is tightly guarded by trees. With water in play on 9 of the 18 holes, you really do need to make sure your accuracy is at it’s best.

The Georgian construction may date back to 1812, but the interior of the hotel is equipped with all the modern amenities required to guarantee relaxing accommodation. The tranquil atmosphere allows guests to unwind, while the leisure facilities and dining options complete the full package, and emphasise Linden Hall's quality as a golf break destination.
The Vital Health and Wellbeing Club at Linden Hall has a range of health and beauty therapy on offer and specialises in tailoring treatment plans to the individual requirements of both men and women. The deal was all around the Ryder cup, there was 3 parties there, so about 50 golfers and the was only one tv in the corner of the bar to watch the golf, so more than half the people couldn’t see the golf

Hotel was probably a very grand house in its day but pretty tired now. Room was a bit shabby although beds comfortable enough. Arm chairs had seen better days and carpet was rather manky looking (I didn’t want to walk on it in bare feet). Bathroom clean but trying to cover up black grime with white silicone along bottom of where tiles meet the bath is not a good idea. Breakfast good, dinner mixed. Cold black pudding bon bons and the chicken seemed to be cooked in the same way no matter what dish we had (chicken tikka was a roasted chicken breast with a sauce over it so definitely not as described). Portions were too large for us & a bit off putting). Didn’t like that you had to leave the hotel building to go to The Linden Tree for dinner. Ok if weather is fair but not so much if it was raining. My husband struggles with mobility so this was just a hassle we could have done without. Probably won’t return.

We enjoyed our stay at Linden Hall. Staff were friendly, the Manor House interesting. Good choice at breakfast, in the lovely Dobson room. Although did object to paying a heavy supplement on some cooked options, other than the full breakfast. The room was clean, if a little small. Made use of the pool & sauna, especially after a round of golf. Good choices at the Linden pub for dinner, food was enjoyable. Staff were approachable and attentive.

Having planned the trip well in advance, we did encounter a problem with rooms, having a number of the 23 strong group having to swap rooms for the second night. Again a pairing of father and daughter were given a double bed and had to wait 40+ mins in reception to sort the problem out. Some minor issues with frozen bread one evening with the soup, rectified quickly with no fuss by the staff. One bowl of soup was cold, and mushy peas were served a good 5-10 mins after the rest of the fish 'n' chips, but on the whole the food was pretty good and a decent choice of starters, mains and desserts for each day. Staff were friendly from reception, to bar and pub staff. The separate pub/building on the grounds was a nice edition next to the main hotel. We ate upstairs on our own as a group the first night which was good, but the following 2 x nights were in the main room on separate tables which was a bit disappointing. There were weddings on site who seemed to take priority over a golf group! The hotel is a little dated, but guess its part of the charm. No real complaints from 23 golfers.

We found that the bar wasn’t open in the evening and had to go to the pub. One member of staff there told us after we’d sat down, that we couldn’t sit in the raised area as the area was being cleaned. We therefore decamped to the lower floor only to be then told that we could sit in the raised area after all!

The British weather was forecast very wet but we escaped with a few showers and a cold wind at the end of August!!!!! However the venue was warm and welcoming. On arrival staff was great and check in easy. Rooms were very good, clean and had tea and coffee facilities. Use of the spa was a bonus. The Linden Tree pub, where our evening meal was served was excellent. Breakfast in the hotel was a little slow due to a large wedding group also staying. All 24 enjoyed their stay. We would recommend it.

We were forced out of our booking at Slaley Hall by YGT. Eventually Linden was chosen as a replacement. Fortunately we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Linden except, Leo Charlton assured me we would have our evening meals in the Dobson Restaurant, (I have his email claiming to have spoken to the hotel)we couldn’t . The manager informed me only corporate events have dinner in that restaurant - extremely disappointed. What is YGT going to compensate ??

Good hotel, nice clean rooms with great beds/pillow, bathroom a little dated but still very clean. Great on site pub to relax after golf and for the evening, food was all very tasty, the only downside for the golfers menu was the lack of choice, obviously down to budget. All the hotel and pro shop staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is situated in lovely countryside and we were made very welcome on arrival. There are some very good facilities at the hotel however I would say that the bedrooms were looking a bit tired and the bathroom in our room needed some attention. The linden tree pub situated near the hotel was very good and the service was excellent. The breakfast in the morning was very good in a lovely dining room however the conservatory next to it was closed and again looked as if it needed some attention. The value of our package was great. The drink in the main hotel is expensive.

✓2 May 2022
Excellent value deal. Hotel etc. first class.just one slight concern, the word dinner in description of offer is,in fact, an £18 allowance which does not cover the price of a main course in the dining room.Perhaps this should be made clear in ad for golf trip as it could be construed as misinformation in advert. Please do not regard this as a complaint,as the golf break is excellent value.

A nice stay , room was nice, spa was fine, golf course was ok if a little slow, food was great in the restaurant as was breakfast ( if again a little slow), the only negative point really was the green light in our room which stayed in all night and spoiled our sleep and a disfunctional flow control on our shower which made things a little tricky, despite this I would recommend this place.

This is the first time my son and I have stayed here, and staid is how I would describe the hotel. Room was of a reasonable size but furniture was old and worn. However, it was clean, but the shower would go scalding hot without warning. We were looking forward to a 3 course meal in the Linden tree pub but it does not serve food on a Wednesday when we stayed. We were 'upgraded' to the restaurant and given a £25 allowance each. This meant our 3 course went out of the window as starters and desserts were £8 each and the main courses just under £20. The food was very nice, though presented in a slightly pretentious way. Tasting the wine from a screw top bottle is unnecessary.

Shower was a little hit and miss temperature wise , breakfast was very good but maybe a little more effort could be made for golfers starting early in the way of being able to order to take something out if you are struggling for a formal breakfast . ✓8 Sep 2025
Course is a beautiful setting but a real shame when you spend all that money and have to play off some winter tees. All par 3s were off mats that weren’t level too. The tee boxes were in terrible condition. The course was busy so it’s clear that they do not reinvest into it. The greens had weeds growing through them. Some bunkers were ground under repair too. Didn’t see one greenkeeper all weekend either. Much needed TLC! I would understand if this was after a winter but the fact it’s been summer and such minor details were wrong. It has the potential to be a brilliant course. I played here 15 years ago and was looking forward to coming back but I was left gutted.
Chris
✓8 Sep 2025
Clearly a great golf course. Nice pro shop, facilities and challenging but rewarding course. However the tee boxes were appalling and many of the greens were very poor. Greenkeepers obviously doing there best but lacking resources to maintain key areas of course. Disappointed a lot of our better golfers and experience. Unfortunately it reflects on YGT at that price point if that is the quality of course condition on offer. However, probably overall, value for money experience was fair.

✓30 Aug 2025
Nice welcome in the pro shop on 3 of our 4 rounds. On Saturday we were met with a very rude & unpleasant female member of staff who didn’t seem to care much about anything, if she could have thrown our buggy key at us I’m sure she would have but she had to go get the buggy and just drove it round & stomped off without as much as a ‘have a good round’. What can I say about the course, nice mix of holes, interesting par 3’s, though long distances between a few of the green to tees. Course dry but to be expected and fairways played more like a links course than parkland. Few of the greens were a bit diseased and they were a bit slow bumpy at times but nothing too bad, I’d rate the course as fair condition EXCEPT THE TEES which were in a SHOCKING CONDITION. I have never seen a course in this condition, it’s like the green staff have just given up on them and allowed them to die. One tee out of 18 had live grass, 2 mats & 15 bare ground covered in sand and grass seed - no sign of any watering though. Did spoil our enjoyment & likely we wouldn’t return. I would have attached some photos but there wasn’t an option to do so, so I’ve sent a summary to your customer services email address.

Layout of course is excellent, a nice challenge. However, course condition was poorest we have seen here and this was our third visit. Tees totally bare of grass(all sand), bunkers poor, fairways covered in old non repaired divots. Just felt there is very little course maintenance in evidence, greens very patchy and moss covered( large black patches. This was unfortunate as we travelled for the golf and very disappointed with condition. Hotel and staff were as already superb though.

We enjoyed our 2 rounds at Linden Hall. The first was very slow as we were behind a big party. The 2nd round the next day, was much quicker. We were allowed off earlier than our allotted time. We had no one in front of us the whole round! Some interesting holes, quite a few with water. Money is obviously being spent on the course, improving drainage issues. We enjoyed the halfway house and returned back to enjoy a drink at the end of our second round, in the sunshine.

The pro in the shop was helpful and friendly. Buggies were pre-ordered and available. (Book early to avoid disappointment). The course was pretty good, challenging, but not too difficult, some great Par 3's, the greens were in a good state. It was penalizing were it needed to be and forgiving in places. Keep it on the fairway and no problems. A couple of longer walks between holes but well sign posted. Overall enjoyable. As good as we have played in 13 years as a group.

Played off the yellow tees. The course, one of my favourites was in great condition. The 4 par threes are the finest I've played for a while. Our group played rake and place in all bunkers. Would recommend it to other golfers.

✓16 Jun 2024
Testing course for all golfers. Good layout with a lot of interesting and also great looking holes. It's obviously suffered a bit with the poor spring weather so greens were a bit ropey but probably would be a lot better when summer actually arrives. If you are off line the rough is very challenging to play from if and when you find your ball. But overall a good resort course.
Luis
✓19 Oct 2023
I would suggest that this is a Summer course as alot of areas were very heavy and infact a couple of holes should have been closed as there was significant damage in and around the greens. The greens had been aerated and there was alot of sand on the greens but it is to be expected at this time of year. The staff in the golf shop were very helpful and the green staff were busy .

On the Sunday we had really heavy rain, but the course stayed open for us and most of us finished the round. The greens were just about playable. ✓13 May 2023
Whilst appreciating the course has suffered from heavy rain, it was just about playable. Courses in my own area would have been shut in similar condition. It was boggy walking round the course, the fairways grass was longer than it should have been. It made reaching par 4's difficult in 2 shots. The quality of bunkers was disgraceful, majority were just hard clay with no sand. A number were GUR, and on the day we arrived we were advised not to play any as they had been sprayed with weed killer to get rid of all weeds in them. A significant number of balls were lost in first and second fairway cuts. The greens were in generally good condition but very slow. All in all not a great experience, can't help thinking that it was only kept open because a number of large parties were already booked in. I would like to comment on the shambles of our golf booking by Your Golf Travel. Had I not looked on the golf club website 2 days before the trip to check how busy it was we would not have played any golf at the times agreed. The club website showed both our allocated tee times on the 11th and one on the 12th still available to book. The other on the 12th had already been booked by a member. Your Golf Travel initially insisted they were in the right, which clearly, as numerous phone calls later proved was not the case. The booking error was at their end not the golf club, and I was appreciative of Peter in the course shop for his help.
Stewart
✓9 May 2023
The greens were very bumpy, you could not distinguish were the fairways and first cut where. 30% of the bunkers were GUR with the rest having no sand in them. It would not suprise me if the course closed due to lack of maintenance all over the course or you removed this venue from your listings.
Eian
✓5 May 2023
Very boggy in places, long distance between tees. Greens were very slow and bobbly due to grass height. Might be much more enjoyable in drier conditions.
Robin
✓2 May 2023
In poor condition - early season and very muddy due to recent weather. It is a nice track but is in need of some investment - fairways all covered in dandelions and daisies, bunkers all GUR, paths like a swamp. Only toilet facilities were back at hotel - a 5 min walk from 9th green. Play was ridiculously slow - we gave up after 13 on first day having taken nearly 4 hours to get to that stage.

✓27 Mar 2023
The course itself was very wet, as a result no buggies were allowed and in truth should not have been opened. Possibly because there were 70+ golfers booked in for the weekend. Our 1st round ended on the 13th after taking over 4 hours to get to that point. We abandoned any plans to play the 2nd day after further overnight rain. Course still open the next day.

✓27 Jan 2023
We arrived only to be told no trolleys allowed and carry bags only which we were unaware of, this was an issue as one in the party can not carry and three others had no carry bag or straps for our own bags, lots of huffing and puffing and phone calls to groundsman, golf director and eventually they lent us some carry bags from their hire range but none of us are used to carrying so it did spoil the golf somewhat and we’re very tired indeed after the two days. Grateful for the help but advanced notice would have helped as we would have delayed the bookings until trolleys allowed.

On the first day the course was totally waterlogged and should have been closed really but we had travelled so went ahead. Course was unforgiving with punishing long grass for anything not hitting fairways. Greens are in lots of cases surrounded by dense scrub with little or no room for error on approach. Made for less than enjoyable conditions as a mid handicapper. Course needs some maintenance really to see it at its best.

Enjoyed the course which is both challenging and long. Fairways, fringes and greens were in good condition but some bunkers needed better quality sand. Staff in the pro-shop were friendly and helpful so I’d recommend a visit.

Nice course and great weather helped. Bunkers could do with some decent sand. Greens good but some heavily sanded. Nice mix of holes with challenging par fives and tricky par threes. Overall very enjoyable as course was relatively quiet both days, so both nice relaxing rounds.

Enjoyed the course with some great par threes except the first par three on the back nine ....missed the green by a few feet on the right and never found the ball .( found 2 other balls well plugged ) it was very wet around the green . The fairways needed a cutting with not much run but the greens a bit slow but still quite good .

We missed being able to play on the first day due to heavy rainfall the night before and our reliance on use of a buggy as the course was closed to buggy use. however they refunded the cost and the manager gave us a free voucher with free buggy hire for a four ball betterball. Very impressed with the PR we were able to play the second day and had a nice sunny warm day and great golf greens in good state but fairway a little long. Enjoyable experience overall

Had 2 rounds of golf with my 11 year old son. Course was in good condition, bunkers could do with sorting as were very compact and some mainly filled with stones. Only negative was speed of first round took nearly 5 hours the main problem was caused by having a half way house after the 9th hole and people stopping then retiring to course causing major back logs.

Fairways and greens were good but bunkers were not they really need to be sorted out. The rough was really difficult to get out. Par 3s we’re really picturesque. Great staff and the half way house was a great addition.

Golf course was challenging and enjoyable to play - just a few issues on the greens but understandable given the time of the year

Excellent condition, well kept, only downside bunkers in poor condition and not much sand.

A fantastic course layout which we thoroughly enjoyed playing over the 2 days. Only criticism if any would be that many of the bunkers were without a fill of sand.

Played from the yellow tees the course was of average difficulty but a good layout. Notwithstanding lockdown I felt the course was not in the best of condition and needed more attention to detail such as better definition of fairways, and fringes around the green. Bunkers were very poor with very compacted "sand." All teeing areas were heavily divotted with no evidence of routine maintenance; we played at 10:20 on the Monday of our stay and saw no greenkeepers anywhere on the course. Rough was penal. In summary, I was very disappointed with the condition of the course which detracted from our time there. It would need to improve significantly before we returned.

Course is a decent enough layout but ground conditions were awful. Course was saturated bunkers unplayable many still underwater. Not a course you would want to play unless there’s been a real dry spell.

I have played here before and it is a bit of a bogey course for me. By the time I get round to the 14th hole I can usually be found sitting on the edge of the fairway, weeping. I did improve on my second round and can appreciate the various challenges you face. My son likes this course because of the variety of holes and reasonably wide fairways. We will definitely play here again.

Excellent welcome, staff member moved tee time without any problems. Greens were a bit ropey - but we are barely through winter.

Tee times for our group had not been registered with the Pro on our first day( but had on the second) so we were late teeing off due to a large group in front of us who had taken our tee times. Conditions were poor which probably accounted for pace of play

Really enjoyed the course, it was varied and interesting and challenging at times. It is a long course with some fair distances from green to tee. Didn't find it over busy, just nicely paced golf. Particular thanks to the staff in the pro shop who kindly lent one of our party a battery for her trolley after hers went on the blink. Very kind thanks so much. We all thoroughly enjoyed the golf and the hotel and will definitely come back. Would certainly recommend.

A nice compact course , some short par 4s made challenging by well placed bunkers . For the time of year in good condition
