- 1 Round at Castle Hume Course

Situated on a 600-acre peninsula on Lough Erne, this five-star resort is a brilliant shout for a UK & Ireland golf break where the non-golfers are genuinely looked after too. It picked up Hotel of the Year in 2017, and it's easy to see why once you're on-site. Everything feels properly "all under one roof", with golf, spa and dining all a short hop from your room.
The headline is the golf, especially the Nick Faldo-designed Faldo Course, which is also ranked inside Northern Ireland's top three. Expect plenty of water to catch your eye, smart bunkering and the sort of greens that make you focus up over every four-footer. It's a test, but not a brutal one, which is exactly what most groups want on a weekend away.
Away from the course, you've got an authentic Thai spa with a full treatment menu, plus multiple dining options ranging from a proper fine-dining night to relaxed post-round food and drinks. If you're travelling as a couple, you can easily split the day between 18 holes and the spa. If you're coming as a group, the lodges are ideal for a bit more space and a bit more banter.
Who is this for?
Golfers seeking a high-end resort experience in Northern Ireland, couples combining golf with spa and fine dining and groups who want two championship courses on-site with luxury accommodation and multiple dining venues.
Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who want to play one of Northern Ireland's top-ranked courses in a five-star setting, and anyone planning a golf break where non-golfers need world-class facilities to match the quality of the golf.

Opening on the 1st July 2009, the Faldo Championship course at Lough Erne is the latest European project to be unveiled by the six-time major winner and now pre-eminent player-architect of his generation. The modern championship layout is a genuine tournament layout that is set to be featured on the European Tour in the near future.
Carved through mature woodland and then expanding along the lake shores, Faldo's course is majestic sight and a daunting test. Distinctive par-3s and phenomenal long driving holes are among the highlights of Lough Erne, a new star on the European golf scene.
Lough Erne's inauguration was crowned by an amazing high stakes exhibition match between Ireland's two golfing stars - Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy.

Opened in 1992, Castle Hume was the first course to be opened at the stunning Lough Erne Resort and is a pristine parkland layout that skirts the shimmering Castle Hume Lough and Lower Lough Erne. With over 7,000 trees lining the perfectly manicured fairways, the course places an emphasis on accuracy off the tee with an iron quite often being the more sensible choice of club. The manor in which the course glides over the natural contours of the terrain adds a different dimension to the course and means all aspects of your game must be on point if you wish to score well round Castle Hume.
However, the course is not one of these modern day monsters that we have become accustomed to and as a result it is very much manageable for plays for all abilities. Perfect for golf societies and charity days, the course provides players with spectacular views of the natural surroundings as well as being the setting for an unforgettable round of golf.

Lough Erne offers two main options: a 120-bedroom hotel and 25 luxury lodges spread across the estate. The look is classic country-house style, and many rooms make the most of the setting with views across the lough or parkland.
Hotel rooms lean towards contemporary comfort rather than fussy luxury, with quality linen, well-finished bathrooms and plenty of space for a long-weekend golf bag explosion. If you're booking for a couple, the hotel keeps everything simple, especially if you want to be close to the spa and the main restaurants.
For groups and families, the lodges are the standout. They give you proper breathing room, multiple bedrooms and shared living space that works well for post-round drinks and a replay of the day's "interesting" shots. Many lodges also offer self-catering facilities, which is handy if your group prefers a quieter night in, though most people still end up sampling the on-site dining at least once.
The Thai spa is a short walk from the clubhouse and offers everything from traditional massages to ESPA and Elemis treatments. The infinity pool overlooks the lough, the Sabai Sabai relaxation room is stocked with herbal teas and there's a jacuzzi, light therapy sauna and tropical rain showers if you want to make a proper afternoon of it. It's the sort of place where non-golfers can happily spend a few hours while you're out playing 18.
On the dining front, Executive Chef Noel McMeel oversees five options. The Catalina Restaurant holds three AA Rosettes and serves modern Irish cuisine with European influences, built around seasonal ingredients and local suppliers. The Loughside Bar & Grill is the more casual option, perfect for steaks, burgers and post-round comfort food. The Blaney Bar sits between the two, offering craft cocktails, local whiskeys and a grazing menu that works well for groups.
On the practical side for golfers, the resort is set up for golf trips, with easy access between accommodation and the courses, plus the usual clubhouse essentials. If you're travelling with non-golfers, the spa and leisure facilities help balance the itinerary, so nobody feels like they've been dragged along for 72 holes.

Service in restaurant and food excellent. Service in bar very very poor- had to wait over 25 minutes-still no service/ on 2 occasions had to get drinks myself. Reception staff did not inform restaurant staff of our booking so great confusion there.Hotel bar really needs to get its act together- plenty of golf resorts in Ireland with much much better service -

Great course, well maintained and very challenging. The course is well mapped out around the loughs and really offers some stunning holes. Greens were pole forked but expected at this time of year

A good course with some nice holes. A bit of walking backwards to get to next tees which caused a bit of a wait to tee off at times but maybe the only downside. Lovely members made us very welcome.

Absolute confusion on arrival- locker rooms open- notice on pro shop door to telephone- this was hotel reception. Thankfully we were early so had lots of time to find score cards and work out where the 1st tee was. All very confusing and haphazard. The day was saved by Neill Graham (hotel concierge)- who gave us directions and saw us off the first tee. No map of the course available so played first 6 holes blindly until we caught up with players ahead. Totally confusing for first time visitors

Course was in really good condition considering the rainfall over past few weeks. It was only slow as I was a one ball behind a four ball, which was to be expected

A long slog, lots of walking between holes, would recommend a buggy. Some fantastic holes though. Would definitely play again.

A great layout, unfortunately the course needed maintenance though. The grass hadn't been cut on the fairways, Greens were OK, ball rolled well. Would play again though, I could see it's potential, just needed shorter grass all over it.
