Excellent facilities. Staff throughout the hotel from reception to bar and restaurant staff very friendly and only happy to help. Room very clean and comfortable.

My trip was good affer the hiccip of i had no room booked for the night,i would like to say without the help of Georgia and Alison sorting things out it would have been a disaster they were very professional and helpful

Hotel would benefit from a face-lift as its looking a little tired and dated.Spa needs ceiling redoing urgently. That said it was worth the money

Joe on reception was fantastic Welcoming on arrival and very professional. Chloe and Alex were excellent servers in the restaurant.

Accommodation was satisfactory but the evening meal on Sunday was poor. We ate at 8.00pm. Roast dinner buffet with overcooked vegetables with limited choice and poor quality meat.

Great place to stay for a quality golf experience

The hotel were fantastic couldn’t do more for us. Resolved issues re the menu that they offer does not match that sold by YGT and also the fact that we had not been booked on to play the Championship course on Monday. No doubt better comms needed between YGT and the hotel

Lovely hotel very friendly. Comfortable rooms, lounge areas very good . Premiere clubhouse disappointing, times for catering closed at 3 so nothing available to eat at the end of our games .The clubhouse itself was in all honesty very tired & dismal, facilities need improving.

Lovely room apart from the main light not working! Friendly efficient staff especially Nathan who works in the Pro Shop. Would definitely go there again.

The staff make this hotel! Over worked and (possibly) underpaid but nothing was too much trouble and they always had a smile on their faces.

The hotel was what we were expecting and the rooms excellent, we had a problem with booking in to a point we're one of the guests hoe used to be front of house manager had to sort the rooms out for the hotel

Very good stay fiendly and clean

Rooms are perfectly fine for what you pay. Prices at the bar seemed a little steep and did also seem to change depending on the day which seemed strange. But all in all, no issues.

Room was ok the spa was great. Food was ok but you cant get much for your £25 allowance we ended up going out for food instead some most days. Drinks are expensive.

Comfortable hotel, brother and I had two double beds. Set £25 included menue was very good.

Good Rooms. Dinner was good and breakfast very good. Staff were good.

Paid for a room upgrade and the room was excellent, comfortable and spacious. Food was nice at every meal and the leisure club was well organised and well equipped. The only negative was the captive audience beer prices, £7.90 for a pint is pretty steep by anyone's standards.

Hotel was fine - clean & tidy but I missed the notes on it being dog friendly -shouldn’t be in the dining room for my money and a couple of our party heard dogs barking during the night in the room next door. We found that the drinks are expensive but when in Rome ! The gym & pool was good to use..

Hotel was good but bar prices a bit on the high side

The hotel was good, staff were lovely had no issues at all. My only gripe is the meal was a buffet which was not of a similar quality to what we have had at other resorts. Normally it’s a set menu sort of thing but the buffet was poor to be quite frank

Great golf.. the two courses are hilly.but really good..suggest to get a buggy if your legs aren't what they use to be..but it will cost y ou £40...we done overnight stay with 2 games dinner/breakfast..all fine ..I book and payed for 2 rooms .payed single suppliments and on checking in they told me I only had one double for 2...but after checking and phoning around came back after golf and it was sorted..had a bad game cos I was thinking about room!!!pok 2nd game..that's my excuse!!! Enjoyed it ..joe on reception was great sorted us out . all staff were..thanks..rooms were good but no small fridge.. Chris f Go again ...yess

The staff, especially Alison on reception, were very helpful indeed. The room was excellent. A long time since I had last been, but perfect for a 2 day golf break.

Lovely hotel, we were given a junior suite, which was very nice.

Hotel was great but over £7 a pint was a bit steep.

We have been going to this place many times over the last 10 years. Our understanding of dinner is a three course dinner. But 25 GBP is not enough for a three course dinner. We do not need a three course dinner but it should not be presented as such. The cleanliness of the dining room was lacking.

£7.80 for a pint is simply scandalous, no wonder the place was empty on a Saturday afternoon. We had one quick pint and went into Chester. Hotel run down but did a job for us. Breakfast average.

We paid £75 each for 2 rounds, bed and breakfast. This was ridiculous value for money. Spa facilities were great, breakfast was good and the room was huge overlooking the course. Reception staff were very friendly too!

Booked this location for our annual golf/spa weekend. Three golf players and three wives. On arrival the covered walkway, gardens and general appearance was good, walking into e hotel we were greeted by friendly staff. Booked in and walked down to our hotel room, which was surprisingly large. Bathroom pleasant ( some dotting of mildew on the ceiling ) the bed despite being very comfy was two singles ( dipping in the middle ) whilst the pillows were outstanding and incredibly comfy. View was pleasant and the addition of a bottle of bubbly waiting for us was a nice touch. No mini fridge, just a void where one used to be with the usual tea and coffee making facilities available. Decor was clean and no faults or damage to anything in the room. The only issue was lack of plug sockets near the bed side of the room. Mobile phones were charged on the other side of the room which wasn’t conducive for alarm clocks and a snooze. The bar had a temporary issue with payment options, but the was easily resolved. Mind bogglingly expensive drinks Dinner and breakfast were included and on arrival in the evening we were shown to our tables and a waiter was attentive, however after 25mins we still hadn’t been seen to order our food. It was very obvious that the restaurant runs with young staff, who are obviously not inducted into the ways of service and for one member is was very apparent that he had been thrown into the deep end, after some reassuring words from us - deep breath you’ve got this - he seems to find his mojo. This needs addressing as the is unfair on the staff that have not been show/ supported and mentored by senior leaders/ managers. Breakfast in the morning at 8.15 was undercooked and Luke warm at best. The cold breakfast of fruit and yogurt however was plentiful and varied. The hot breakfast was poor and the tea /coffee was shamefully weak. The spa itself is not a spa but a leisure centre. The actual spa treatments are on par with a spa hotel but the pool, and other areas like steam room/sauna etc need radically improving / redecorating before being classed as a spa. The hotel is 10mins from a local village of Eaton where a G&T isn’t going to cost you £18 and a bottle of wine £30+, Uber is about £7 The grounds were very lovely and well tended, no litter or signs of misuse.

Fabulous warm spacious deluxe rooms. Lovely friendly staff, delicious food and great service in the restaurant and at breakfast. Gorgeous grounds. Two down sides, no 0% spirits (gin) and cigarette stubs on the walkway out of the main doors (within throwing distance of the cigarette bin amazingly);

Room size was good but old fashioned, EV chargers were working which was a big bonus. Hotel staff were not that friendly apart from Joe on reception he was really helpful. Hotel main meal was very good, young staff tried hard to serve well. We had diner, bed and breakfast, on paper is good value until you realise there is an additional supplement for pretty much anything on the menus ie sides so you get £25 for food which is very limited. We paid a service charge and when we checked out was asked again to pay a service charge which I politely declined. Breakfast is shocking we couldn’t eat it and we all had something different, tea and coffee was disgusting and cutlery seriously needs a good clean which we all spotted. Pool and gym facilities were good for a hotel.

Very disappointed with the standard of food and service in the hotel. We started our break in the 19th at the Premier Course. It was way past its sell by date and not somewhere I would go again. Unfortunately the course was flooded but they did give us a voucher for a round within the next month which was unexpected. Unfortunately it’s too far to go but we appreciated the offer. At the hotel food orders were forgotten about on two occasions. An hour to wait for a sandwich in the bar, order misplaced even though I had chased it up at least three times. Poached eggs at breakfast had to be chased up. Technical problem was the excuse. Breakfast food tepid on both occasions and very poor service even though restaurant was quiet. Evening meal was very disappointing. Starter very small for price charged, meat for main was poor quality, apology was given. Atmosphere in restaurant wasn’t good. We were initially seated in the narrow part of the restaurant near a large group of men, we couldn’t hear ourselves speak for the shouting and singing. They were having a good time but it wasn’t good for us. We didn’t complain but the restaurant manager apologised for the noise and asked us if we would like to move to another table. We have been to this hotel before but definitely won’t be going again.

The stay was mostly good. But in the morning I had no hot water in the bathroom. Bathroom its self is very dated. The was cold ham out for breakfast but in the afternoon I couldn't get a ham sandwich??? I had to have a BLT and the bacon was very fatty that I had to cut off before I eat it. I have no idea why you can't have a ham sandwich? Golf was.great staff great. Thanks Tony

One bar was closed for refurbishment so service was a bit slow in the hotel bar but didn’t spoil the trip the only thing we didn’t like was charging you extra to go for a swim in the morning food was very good ,rooms clean and comfortable

The rooms were a little dated and the hotel and clubhouse were similar. Staff cant be faulted, although the service was slow both in the restaurant and in the bars. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the golf.

Overall a good experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was nice but disappointed with the lack of usb port options. Biggest disappointment was the quality of food; for such a nice hotel I was expecting something a bit more than your standard pub grub.

Staff could not be more helpful. The standard of food in the restaurant isn’t good enough, in particular breakfast. The quality of products and the availability of anything fresh is poor. The rooms and general hotel areas are fine.

Enjoyed the stay. People who used the pool, said it was excellent. Nice bar and lounge. Breakfast had ran out of plates and glasses, and didn’t look overly clean. Food was good.

Hotel was comfortable and a pleasant place to stay.. However the bar service was very slow, both in the main bar and when ordering drinks during dinner.

It certainly didn't help your golf travel in an way. Loads of things wrong. Would not recommend that hotel. Hope it doesn't tarnish your reputation?

Hotel rooms were very comfortable, clean and well maintained but staff were in short supply.

Alcohol was far far too expensive. Staff were very friendly and helpful but they were overworked as not enough staff Food was very good and hotel and spa was very nice

Start with the good, the staff were good and quick to try and solve problems but... Issue 1, no warm water in our room, went to reception and told that because the hotel is full it warm water could take about 4 minutes to come through, siad they went to check but we tried all our taps for a lot longer than 4 minutes and did not manage a drop of warm water. Issue 2 - evening meal was poor, ordered a thai green curry, what was delivered was a thick red sort of paste with not a lot of taste. Kitchen's responce was it is a 'thai style sauce', waiters even laughed at the sitaution. Literally like a chef sending lamb when beef is ordered. Staff tried to recify this of course but had already had to wait a good 40-45 mins for the food in the first place. We shold have learnt our lesson but after the round decided to order a few portions of 'chunky chips' for the tables. Kitchen sent out little metal containers of fries (as they aparently run out of chips and bowles by the look of it) and without exagerating each had probably about 20 fires in, a steal at £5. Again the poor waiter could only laugh and apologise for the kithen. Hotel felt a bit tired, pool and spa area needs a good paint, other little things like one of our rooms having no tea and coffee and the other having a tea bag but not a kettle in the room were just a bit annoying.

Excellent value for money !

Great location for the hotel and also rooms were fine but the service for both evening meal and breakfast was very poor Evening meal was fine but they do need to explain with regards to what you get included in the deal we have to other guests as you can pay extra for your food like we did when they brought the drinks bill over But breakfast was bang average and if we didn’t have the dinner bed and breakfast deal if you stay on a room only basis the full English breakfast is a whopping £24 which is madness But just could do with a bit of TLC and some more staff

We stayed here like we do 3 times a year however on this occasion the visit was very disappointing indeed . The food was extremely disappointing and service also .We only received a 2 course instead of a 3 course and the main meal was shocking as they even told us them selves that all the chicken had been complained and returned !! Yet nothing was done. Food went cold while waiting for cutlery and we were told to eat in the bar not the restaurant and only 2 young staff were waiting on . Service was awful . I think we were in and out with 20 minutes ! Rooms on the bright side were clean and beds comfortable . Golf course not in bad condition given the weather

Hotel was in a lovely location and the staff were exceptional. Really friendly. Meal included was nice and the restaurant was clean. However the bar was very expensive and the course was destroyed but remained open.

Hotel is great but service is a bit slow especially in the morning can be a bit confusing with some breakfasts being being buffet style but sometimes you have to order off a menu, bar prices are very expensive with a small glass of wine costing £14.00 food good but portion size quite small. Both golf courses are amazing well maintained will go back as golf is main reason for my visit

Had a great time golfing but room keys wouldn’t work and the evening meal was poor both in quality and quantity for hungry golfers , booze well overpriced and takes ages to get a drink whilst waiting for your meal

Staff un helpful worst stay ever

Beautiful hotel, good rooms with comfy beds. Tasty food and mostly friendly staff but not all of them are suited to working in the service industry. I would definitely visit again.

Staff great and rooms good, but food not good, you were lucky to get your first choice - lots of items they didn’t have and it felt like reheated food when you got it. We were first in restaurant and it took over 90 minutes to have 5 of us served

We wouldn’t return to Portal and were very disappointed , we felt it was understaffed , particularly on the Sunday evening where everything appeared rushed and staff were clearly under pressure to serve the meal. Not the lovely few days were were expecting !

Everything regarding the hotel was fine. Very hard working and polite staff. The hotel on the night we stayed was fully booked, but we had no issues in the restaurant and bar regarding service and quality of food.

The twin room was roomy... with a nice bathroom and kettle/tea coffee making facility. The beds were comfy... no problems whatsoever.

This was not up to the usual standard. The young man on Reception was very pleasant and said they had put us in Luxury room, with two double beds. When we came to placing our clothes in the wardrobe the door almost fell off. The staff came twice to fix it. The safe didn't work once again came to fix it twice and it still didn't work. The fridge didn't work either. We found the food poor. The first night we had ants on our dining table. We went of the main menu and of course had to pay £21.50 extra. My steak was overcooked. I asked for some vinegar and a muddy looked bottle came, so I asked the waitress for a new bottle,it arrived looking much the same and poured out of bottle instead of sprinkler.It was tasteless. In the bathroom the shower drain didn't work very well and filled up as showering. We wouldn't like to stay at this Hotel again.

All the staff were extremely accommodating and polite, the rooms were large and comfortable. Food was excellent but the menu was limited on the half board menu and breakfast was excellent. Only major down side was that the bar prices were more akin to the capital and the range of drinks especially on draught ws very limited.

A general feeling of upgrading of the facility being required. Appeared to be under staffed and majority of staff needed training to improve their customer service

Accommodation,housekeeping and food quality, very good. Drinks,food and buggies very expensive and made the stay well over budget. Breskfast was varied, good choice but limited amounts. Nothing replenished unless asked, satfc were doing their very best, and we felt really sorry for how they were overworked!!

Hotel rooms ok but evening meal for 12 was bad. The starters (soup was freezing) and waited over an hr for main course. Breakfast was ok tho

Checking was straight forward, although the first room we were given turned out to be a twin rather than a double even though it was on the double list at reception. Changing to a double was quick and easy. Room was large and very comfortable. Did take advantage of the Spa and that was fine. Only short coming was when it came to the bar. They had run out of several drinks we original requested, and even the wine we wanted for dinner. Food was cooked well but could not be classed as fabulous.

Party of 36 stayed a few said the rooms were looking a little tired but overall the hotel was very good staff were friendly and the meal in the evening was excellent.drinks were £7a pint so glad we got 20% off.

Enjoyed our stay at Macdonald Portal. The double beds in the twin rooms was a pleasant suprise. The food in the restaurant was really nice with great choice on the evening meal menu. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Rooms were good, clean, spacious with comfortable beds. Bathrooms had showers & baths. Golf was more difficult on the second day but overall was a very enjoyable stay.

Not the best unfortunately, No bar Snacks in the bar, no Port, Very expensive Drinks, Long waits for food from bar or food that didn't arrive. Room as basic but comfortable. Short staffed generally. Restaurant food was good but menu was limited

It was a very relaxing stay all staff and facilities were great. Golf courses were well kept and challenging. Would go back again.

The Hotel was very good, my only negative comment was there was not enough staff either at the bars or in the restaurant in the morning, it was a little bit of a free for all but the food was good.

The hotel was fine!! The staff were well below of what I expected! The standard of food was poor. The time we waited to be served got worse as the week progressed. So the experience is one to be forgotten .

The only small thing was the evening meal menu where for what sounded like the same item as off the main menu was much smaller, especially was only a burger, just make it the same one so you don’t compare to other tables.

I'm not one for moaning but the bunkers were like concrete on both the Premier and championship course. The staff levels inside the clubhouse was shocking, one person on the bar accommodating approx 100 people. We went through to the resteraunt we waited 45 mins for the start which was cold, then another hour for mains, we waited another 20 mins for desert but the majority of us got up and walked out. Breakfast was a shambles it was suppose to be ready for 7 but it was 35 mins late and when I went back into the resteraunt at 09:15 my plate was still in the same place and every single table was full of used plates etc. Guests were clearing the tables themselves. We will not be returning to any McDonald golf club. The attitude on the staff was also out of order. They should ban mobile phones when working, especially the managers who were constantly on social media. Worst trip for since we started 13 years ago 😪

Great Sunday driver would revisit in the future

Not enough staff for the amount of custom. Thursday night one staff . One bar open Friday afternoon packed with day golfers and residents and only a couple behind the bar. Evening meal was just as bad . Waiting ages for the average food . Breakfast good Felt sorry for the staff that are there . Moral must be at rock bottom . It would pay to have more staff at busy times on better than minimum wages for the lost custom as prices for drinks are really expensive £18.40 for a large gin & tonic

Disappointing to be honest, ruined our stay. No hot water, dusty and cobwebs in room. Noisy residents, shouting and screaming at 2 am Complained to reception after calling them 6 times, seemed un interested, I had to sort issue with overly drunk guests

The Hotel looks excellent, it is clean, light, airy, the rooms are dated but ok, the 2 courses were excellent, the only overwhelming problem, which in talking to the other groups at the hotel, is the shockingly undertrained staff, each night there was a fella interviewing people, who then started that night, on both nights, and were left to work behind the bar without a clue, we felt so sorry for them, both on each nights, young girls left on their own behind a bar they did not know what to do, surrounded by increasingly angry male golfers, but this was throughout to whole hotel, no maid to change the beds, dreadful, it was as though all the experienced staff had left and just left it to young very inexperienced people, I wont even begin to talk about the food and the nightly 1hr 45 min wait to get half portions of food because they had run out, If the hotel bosses had our experience they would be totally ashamed, things really need changing at this hotel, very poor, it is such a shame, it has everything else going for it, for goodness sake send in a good manager too get a grip

Accommodation was spot on and the courses were superb would highly recommend.

Very disappointing this visit. Many items of food and drink unavailable, even though on the menu. Ran out of basic items, such as, orange juice for breakfast and no savignon although two choices on the wine list. No scrambled egg and no beans, so basic for children. Very, very poor.

There were just not enough staff on duty so in particular breakfast was, although a buffet, poorly stocked and disrupted whilst waiting for many basic items to be replenished. Dinner was fine but there was no need rush us into the restaurant at 7.30 on the first night, so soon after coming off the golf course, as we were not served for at least half an hour. All enjoyed the food and the staff were always pleasant if rushed off their feet.

On arrival at hotel we where greeted by a nice receptionist who quickly checked all 21 off us in rooms spacious and exactly what you need. The food was ok nothing to shout about but the bar very very poor slow and at times clueless all in all I would stay again and hopefully the bar better maintained 🙏👍

Really enjoyable stay at the hotel. Staff were really friendly and there if you needed anything. The food was delicious at the restaurant in the evening and again for breakfast. Bar area was comfortable and no problem getting a drink (although drinks were very expensive!). Rooms were clean and tidy but a little dated. For an overnight stay where you really only use the room to sleep in, they were perfectly fine. Would happily use the hotel again for future stays.

The hotel was great - the staff we excellent and very helpful. I used the pool which was v clean and big enough to have a decent swim. good towels etc provided. The room was large and spacious and warm.

The Hotel is on 3 levels. All areas are accessible by ramps and lifts. The Hotel Staff are very friendly. The Hotel itself is very inviting and relaxed. We enjoyed our stay! Pillows could be softer, that’s all.

My room was ok, clean and I slept ok in the bed. Room at a decent temperature in the night. Our 12 ladies arrived well before our intended tee time and ordered tea/coffee, bacon buns etc before. Some were still waiting for the drink and bun as we left to play. The couple of buns that did arrive were without a knife and serviette!!!! We did have a word with reception about this a were given some of the money back for paying for the buns. The Breakfast was a very packed affair. We had to ask for cutlery for the table and waited a good time for a drink to be served. The waitresses were trying their best but it appeared better training and more staff are needed at this hotel. We were offered a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine between the 12 of us at dinner by the hotel staff.

Great stay - food and bedrooms very good all resulting in a high value for money. Will definitely return!

Despite the staff’s best efforts this isn’t a great hotel. The food was poor, spa wasn’t very good and respite being advised it would be simple to book in on the day, only one of our party could get a treatment booked in. This is clearly a place geared towards golfers and not the 4 stars it’s advertised at.

Good accomodation, spacious room, good shower/bathroom.The restaurant provided a good range of evening meals which were tasty and well presented although the service was slow on one evening.The only bar open was in the main area and a further bar area would have been ideal had it been open.Overall an enjoyable couple of days.

Classic double room had an enormous bed and the room itself was so large we had a two seater sofa as well as an easy chair and table. Bathroom was very clean and well appointed. Room was superbly comfortable. Food on the inclusive menu was tasty if just a little limited in choice. Of the 6 choices on the mains menu 5 were meat based and 1 was pasta. No fish .

Very comfortable rooms and restaurant, staff and food very good.

The hotel rooms were very comfortable with a large superking bed. Well appointed too. The bathroom was clean, fresh with a lovely shower. The three course inclusive evening meal was very nice and tasty as was breakfast the next morning.

The hotel room was spacious and well appointed, however there were a lack of electrical sockets. Around the hotel there was a lack of quality staff. Just one person on reception, so the phone remained unanswered. The young waiter didn’t get the drinks order correct ( there were only 4 to remember). Other waiters didn’t know what food they were serving or to who. The golf courses were in reasonable condition, however there were plenty of grass cutters seemingly hindering our progress on many holes.

Breakfast service was very poor had to Q for 15 minutes because they had 1 member of staff serving breakfast.

In a post COVID world , it was all a little chaotic , new untrained staff trying their very best . Also limited menu (and 50% of only 4 main course choices unavailable ) Room was set up wrong - but reception staff went the extra mile and reconfigured whilst we were at dinner. swimming pool closed for the whole time we were present .

Food was attrocious, service was slow. Prices in the bar were ridiculous. The rooms were far too warm, could not open windows fully and the rooms need air conditioning fitting.

Disappointed that they kept asking how we were paying for the buggies despite showing them on the first day that they were paid for,and also when we needed another buggy for 2 rounds on the Monday and one on the Tuesday I was given a price of £35 on the Monday and £20 only to be told on the Monday pm round that we had only paid for 2 rounds although I was given the impression that the £35 was for a day.Also the fact that you have to drive between the two courses and change buggies.

The accommodation was OK, but a little tired. The Spa was very limited with just a small basic pool and 1 sauna available - everything else was closed. Many young disinterested apathetic untrained staff who clearly didnt want to be there and didn't know what to do. Didn't want to fetch wine from the cellar, refused to fry an egg with the gammon at dinner instead of the pineapple salsa. Poor choice at the bar. Food delivered to the bar to go cold without informing us it was ready. Overcharged at the bar. Bedroom door keys repeatedly needed resetting. No TV remote for over 24h. Room not cleaned. Just a catalogue of little issues which left a poor overall impression.

Where do I start. 1 room was single occupancy so 2 guys had to share a double bed, they split for 2nd night. The bar service was appalling, younger staff had no idea. There was a few words said and another guest stuck his nose in so a altercation accursed. (Only verbal). We spent over a £1000 the first night but went into the village the 2nd as service that bad. At breakfast we were told you could only have 2 rashers of bacon. ( one guest does do full English and wanted a bacon sandwich). On the last day I approached the manager to state my concerns and she said she had concerns of her own. 1) being the altercation the the bar staff over service and the other guy. (Which I took on board. We are not a rowdy group by far with guys up to 72 yr old. 2). The manger then said cocaine had been found in one of our rooms. I insisted on knowing which room it was as I was shocked, only to find out it wasn’t one of our rooms but another room. I got a half hearted apology.

The room was very clean and had everything that we needed. Could have done with air conditioning as the room was very hot 🥵 but obviously not usually this warm in the uk.

Golf courses they are very good ..small portions for the evening meal an waiting between each course ..but breakfast was very good so all in all I give 9 out of 10

Rooms are good, but the hotel appears to be staffed by young, inexperienced and untrained personnel. Our experience in the restaurant was truly awful. We felt sorry for the staff who were clearly out of their depth with no supervision. Overall it goes down as our worst golf trip , which is a shame as the potential is there given proper management. Would certainly not recommend this venue.

After driving for 3.5hrs arriving late morning we tried to get something to eat and drink in the main bar prior to our round in the afternoon. Although the bar was staffed they were not able to serve due to age restrictions and didn't offer any food and the only person available to do so was covering the main restaurant, bar and room service. We know this as this person on duty made a open statement to 30+ 'not happy' people in the bar they they were the only one on duty and was doing thier best. We then left the resort for a local pub to get something to eat & drink. The evening meal was OK however the choice of wine extremely limited. The rooms were spacious clean and comfortable. Overall the hotel seem to struggle with lockdown and the stock response blamed Covid. We been to couple of hotels where this hasn't been an issue during this period so think this is more a management issue. As a small society we agreed we would play here again but not stay.

Lovely room but apart from that it was not the best experience. It is obviously for societies etc. Staff were not really interested apart from the barman in the main bar. Terrible choice of food in main restaurant and ended up eating in the bar. Would not rush back.

Covid restrictions mes ant a limited food experience but ok

Stayed as couples for a golf, stay and dine evening. Hotels rooms are nice in size just looking a little dated. Staff at the hotel and spa could not be more friendly and helpful. Spa area is lovely however the pool area, including changing rooms and Saunas could all do with a good clean they looked very dirty. Not really what we expected for a top hotel? The main disappointment was the food. Evening meal choice for a Saturday evening was like a choice of 3 types of Sunday lunch?? Starters of leek and potato soup tasted like fish. The whole group didn’t enjoy any of the meal. The following breakfast was worse! A doggy bag delivered to your room with watery yogurts, a stale pastry cold burnt and very dry meat on a breakfast sandwich. I wouldn’t give it to my dog! I understand Covid makes things more difficult and new measures are in place but I expected more from a top Hotel chain!

Hotel was clean and well maintained with good facilities. If I had to be picky all I would say was breakfast took a long time to come compared to dinner however it was busier and due to covid there was no breakfast buffet, when it came it was delicious though!

Staff were very attentive given the Covid circumstances. Great service. Always very polite and helpful. The only blemish on our stay was the breakfast. The cooked breakfast was very poor quality. Disgusting sausage (a good thing you only got 1!) and the bacon was also poor. There was a cereal option. But no other breakfast option. No continental etc. Evening meals were nice.

Our 2 day play and stay golf trip to Macdonald Portal was a pleasant trip. The courses both played well, even though it had rained heavily for 3 days on the run up to the trip. The staff around the hotel were somewhat absent, and often forgot about us, which when it was table service only and not actually that busy was quite frustrating. This was especially annoying at breakfast when they served every table that came in after us, but left our table waiting for 30 minutes before acknowledging our existence. We'd been there almost an hour by the time we actually received our breakfast. The value for money for the trip on a whole was good, however we decided to hire a golf buggy to use on the Championship course and were left shocked when we were charged £35 for 1 buggy, especially when it was an old buggy that didn't run too smoothly, and not one of their all singing and dancing versions that they shouted about not so long ago. That seems a really steep price. In the hotel, the rooms were spacious and nicely presented, the public areas were in good order and the covid measures were all in place to keep people socially distanced. The food was OK, but certainly no better than OK, we expected more from a hotel of this level.

Ten pm closing bar would have been fine if we had been informed that last drinks were to be ordered by 9.30! Food was not of a very high standard. Disappointing.

Given the current situation, the hotel could not have been more welcoming. Very comfortable and relaxed stay, all staff members fully up to speed with rules, and exceedingly friendly and helpful.

Our room was a twin room. It was clean and tidy. Plenty of room for us and comfortable.

Disappointing slow service in restaurant Saturday night, meals that came out were not as per menu, carrot and ginger soup was actually carrot and coriander and when enquired waitress said would get bank to us and never did Also dessert said with custard and cane with ice cream, again didn’t come back to us after enquiry

All staff were exceedingly friendly andaccommodating during our stay.

The rooms were very comfortable with 2 king size beds and room to move around. The bathroom had a bath and shower cubicle. The food over the three day was without fault with three choices for each course, the breakfast was one of the best I’ve had with mushrooms that tasted like they had been picked in the field not soggy and tasteless, sausages that had flavour and eggs fried with firm white and soft yolk. The bar was buzzing with a wedding party and unfortunately there were not enough staff but those that were there worked well under pressure. Prices were reasonable and with the help of 20% off and a £10 drinks voucher we survived !! Would recommend and return.

Room was a bit stale need a good airing and no free water surprising for a Macdonald. Overall site was well kept. Service was prompt and smiling. Excellent breakfast choices

The hotel was the best this group had stayed in during our last seven years. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was to much. The rooms were outstanding Not one adverse comment was made of my party of 96. Very happy to return again.

It’s a basic hotel. Rooms we were allocated were ground floor and smelt of damp.they were adequate for the purpose of one nights accommodation. Food was very disappointing. Our evening meal was booked by ourselves as YGT forgot to book our meal time. Dinner was poor. A choice of 3 starters,3 mains of gammon, salmon or vegetarian pasta. All plated before hand and served canteen style. Not enough food. We asked for extra veg. But this was not forthcoming. Breakfast was buffet style. Overall pretty poor would not go again. We walked into the village in the evening and had a pleaser evening in the local pubs. A couple of pubs served food. Which helped a number of hungry golfers.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar staff are fantastic adverts for this hotel,great fun and very helpful. the restaurant staff are very nice and again very helpful. Its a real shame that a complex with such beautiful golf courses dont seem to know anything about golf as the Tee times are crammed in and the pace of play is appalling.

Hotel and the facilities provided were excellent. Spacious room. Breakfast was a good standard. Evening meal meant 3 courses from a set menu or £25 off the a la carte. We had the second option which gave you 2 courses and the food was top notch. Bar prices were expensive so we took a 5 minute taxi ride into Tarporley on our two nights and found the pubs warm and welcoming. The only down side was despite being given our 4 tee times by YGT, when we arrived at the course, none of these times were reserved, nor were any other times. This is the 5th time I’ve booked with YGT and never had this problem before so I put it down to a hiccup rather than an on going problem. The pro was very good however, and sorted us out so we didn’t miss any golf

A first class hotel, I cannot fault a single member of staff, everyone was friendly, charming and helpful.

We had one problem, on the first night the dining room was terribly understaffed and they had split us into 2 separate tables. I told the overworked and very stressed manageress that I had agreed with the hotel manager, during my visit in March, that we should have 1 table each night. She sorted it out entirely to our satisfaction.

General experience very good, staff were very friendly and helpful. Only issues were .. the Bar ran out of Beer (Bitter) each night (3) we were there. (Wasn't us Gov' we were only 4) Plus each evening there was 1 or 2 items on the Menu unvailable. However, Good Food.

the hotel ruined the break by over booking the meal booked for 6.30 a year ago they changed it 2days before our trip to 9.15 not good aparty of 24 only 16 dined as it was to late for some hotel not intrested over 100 diners in the room and 1 bar staff same in the lobby bar no good enough for a 4 star the staff were great though not go thier again and not recomend it ruined my trip for me as i had organised it

Lovely large bedrooms with 2 comfy armchairs. Elemis toiletries a very nice treat too. Breakfast and dinner both excellent with hot plates and v nice presentation. Spa area and swimming pool fabulous

The hotel is very well appointed and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Very good beds and showers. It is let down badly by the standard of catering. We had a party of 16 booked in the restaurant and we were then told it was a buffet. On arriving in the dining area our table was taken by a number of other people watching the Masters. The buffet had obviously been laid on to cope with the Masters event however the quality of the food was appalling. Many other groups were also complaining. Breakfast was only slightly better although this was in the proper restaurant.

Our trip was a bit of a nightmare from start to finish. The place was completely overbooked, overpriced, they kept trying to charge us for stuff when we had already paid for everything, had to argue to get into the restaurant which we were told we had and then spent 2 hours in there for a 2 course meal, then they tried to charge us for someone else table, had to come off the golf course because it took 2 of us 3 hours to do 9 holes because it was so busy and slow. I could go on all day about how poor the experience was.

This was a lovely hotel with lovely staff food and rooms. Golf course on site was lovely and the site up the road was also very good but sadly very inclement weather on day 1 meant we only really got one full round of golf so missed out on the first day due to heavy storms and bitingly cold winds. Hope to return for the full experience sometime. Can recommend.

We were disappointed with the condition of the Hotel. Thread bare carpets in the Bar area etc. This Hotel was advertised as having a Multi Million pound refurbishment but there was no evidence of this. The temperature in the Hotel was always very cold. The reception staff were quite rude when I asked to take a swipe of my debit card instead of a credit card, they did not allow this, which I found peculiar. The food in the Restaurant was very poor, both for dinner and breakfast. We even had to serve our own Tea and Coffee from thermos flasks, these drinks were luke warm as was the buffet breakfast, the foreign staff were unhelpful and unpleasant. This Hotel was nowhere near its 4 Star Accreditation in my opinion. We will not be returning.

Lovely hotel, but the sign on the main road was covered by a hedge where the arrow shows left, but because we couldn't see this we went right for 4 mins then decided to turn round, we were also asked if we had booked our time slot for eating, we didn't know about that either before the trip

I only managed to play a couple of holes due to myself feeling unwell however the course felt in great condition considering the recent rainfall.

Played as a solo player so I was let through by numerous groups as I caught them so my round was relatively quick compared. Winter tees were in use however even with the recent rainfall, the course was still in relatively good condition with only a few boggy areas. I found the greens though were littered with unrepaired pitch marks which made putting a bit of luck. The speeds though although were a little on the slow side due to the rainfall, were consistent. Overall a really enjoyable round.

Super course which had some stunning views across Cheshire, we managed to get on a little earlier than planned thanks to the pro .which helped as the weather again impacted the round. Again we were grateful of the buggy .

Weather was pretty bad , so glad we booked a buggy , bit awkward getting to the pro shop with my hip problem. Round was slow due to a 4 ball that didn't abide to golf etiquette causing a bit of a back up, we had to skip a hole. Course was in good nick considering weather well maintained and enjoyable to play.

Never would I go back. We were following a club stableford. Just glad it wasn’t a medal. As for a five hour round following three balls in front. Joke. Signs everywhere about slow play. People must be able to read. What a waste of money. Pro shop looked run down and he was no help.

Again weather impacted the golf and 7 holes completed by the group We did mention that holes 8/9 were flooded to the pro shop on return and asked if there was any golf compensation ? No the course was playable was the response from the pro team. Otherwise all good

We chose to repeat the course to see if we improved. The holes are long but enjoyable. We got stuck behind some slow groups in a competition which was frustrating. But as the weather was ok and we weren’t in a rush it was ok.

Championship course was in reasonable condition. Tees were well worn and the greens were slow but better than the Premier course.

Quality of the course was very poor. Greens were very slow and in poor condition. Tees were well worn and fairways were mixed. The course has been over used in the season and it shows.

The better of the 2 courses, found everything is overall better condition

Some decent holes, some fairways a bit ropey, hired buggies and found some areas unnecessarily roped off

The Championship course was a joy too play however it taken us 5½ hours to play our game, no it was not down to us being bad at golf, we play of 0 and 8, it was the group infront not allowing us too play through eventhough we met them at every tee and green

The course was a very nice to play my personal opinion you will defo need a buggy for the full 18 holes

Not the fault of the facility itself but following 3 x 4 ball as a two was slow going. Course itself allows for decent scoring and was in better condition than its sister course - premier. Water hazards clever and made for enjoyable golf.

The terrain is challenging and the greens were "pitted" Probably a little weather related

Some of us had played the course many times before in our Cheshire matches however the greens were disappointing having been treated & holitined, several large bare patches to cope with.

An interesting course with lots of challenges generally in good condition. The clubhouse was very dated and run down could do with a bit of tlc. No internet first day so cash only which proved problematic. Once again staff friendly enough.

Again, only issue was the tees, they really do need looking after a bit more. But the course is fun, open and challenging. Good halfway hut as well, all in all, great for the price when packaged with another round and over night stay.

Course is fun and interesting with lots of different tests. Only issue was the condition of the tees, they are rarely flat, uncut and lacking care. Greens were fine, patchy in parts, but as you would expect at this type of course.

Same with this course i wish we had been told the state before we got there. Some really nice holes on this course let down by the state of the tee boxes, greens and some fairways. For the price we paid we expected these courses to be in mint condition especially a championship course.

I wish we hand been told before hand the state of the course as we would of changed our booking to else where. The tee boxes where terrible as where the greens looks like the greens may of had a disease some of them we couldn’t even putt on

As per my comment re the Premier course….lots of 4 balls which are on the slow side …but not unduly so. Setting as amazing …great views and some strutting views. Greens look like they need a good bit of attention…and not as nice as the Premier course.

Busy with fourballs and societies…but this is to be expected..hence play was slow. This did not spoil our experience as a 2 ball. Tees were a little scruffy…but this was not a problem as such.

Generous fairways and large greens with trees stratigally positioned off the tee boxes to catch out the stray drive. Greens were very slow but given the heavy amount of play on the course it's understandable.

Much tighter fairways, needed to be straight. Harder than the Championship course. Tee boxes need some attention, reseeded.

Played this course twice, yellow then white Tees. Over 7000 yards off the whites. Wide fairways comfortable to score.

Same as Premier course. Greens very slow. Way too much grass on them. Many bald burnt off areas on greens. Fairways poor. No grass growth so very poor lies. Sand in bunkers generally good but different sand in some bunkers.

Pretty poor condition. Fairways are poor. Greens have way too much grass on them and like putting on velcro. Bunker sand was good but some have different types of sand. Many bald areas on greens through sun damage. Sprinklers?

Nice little short course, great final round of the trip.

Enjoyable round overall and some nice holes on the course but the overall condition of the course was poor - both the greens and the tees were almost as much sand than grass and the bunkers were solid making it extremely hard to play out of them.

Played Sunday teeing off at 13:24, the course was too busy, in a queue of 2, sometimes 3 groups waiting to tee off at every tee, 5 hours and 20 minutes for the round for a 2 ball was painful. We did enjoy the round overall and the course is decent but the waiting was a real source of frustration.

The course was very tricky after the recent dry summer especially with the wind so strong. A good layout and again we’d come back.

The greens in our opinion were poor/slow on the first day but slightly better the second day.. Tee boxes were very worn and bunkers were not well kept.. The fourth hole was a bit quirky and caused flow play with its layout.. The dry long spell of weather hasn’t helped and we’d go again.

Lovely course and far superior condition to the premier one. Can’t fault it in the slightest except some bunkers were quite stoned so had to do some rake and place. There was also a shortage of rakes which was odd but not too much of an issue

The greens were quite poor, dead patches and lots of holes on almost every green. I can live with crow damage but the amount of rough bobbly dead (large) patches of grass is not what I’d expect from a course of this price. The green were in worse conditions than most local courses for say £20 a round. It was really poor

Greens weren’t very good at all one of our four commented they were worse than a municipal course. Great course with some lovely challenging holes. Felt sorry for the greenkeepers as the night before horses had been on the course and caused damage to the greens. They did a great job in repairing the damage. Much better course than the championship one. Book 2x rounds on this course if you can and miss the other one.

Greens appalling. Look like they hadn't been cut in weeks. Played on better £15 municipal courses. Some bunkers great, others unplayable.. The 'championship course' title for this course is embarrassing.

Well maintained for early March

Play better in height of summer, was a bit boggy in areas greens to long, not many picturesque holes, for time of year acceptable

Positives- immaculate condition considering it’s February and has rained ridiculously. Condition similar to our home course in may/june. Nice putting green. Negatives- course is very long and there doesn’t seem to be much difference between some of the holes. I would suggest playing at the premier course too, which is more complex but shorter. We played this course twice, once in Storm Ashley and in the sun the following day it was great fun on both days.

We had a fabulous time playing the course, however the toilets weren't open and someone had used them abd left them in an horrible state!

The pro shop needs improving and looks like a hut and scruffy Golf buggies were £40 which is bonkers

Because it was wet it was made more difficult. A very long and tiring course.

No toilet or changing facility. We expected the course to be more varied with a range of holes which seemed the same. A lot of long holes and boring towards the end.

It was wet however we were pleased to play. Over all an enjoyable course.

The holes on the greens some were damaged. A lot of dead grass on the greens but most of the courses were great

We played the Championship course. The other course might be better. A lot of holes aren’t particularly interesting.

Cabin at the 10th tee opened for 10mins, so missed being able to buy a drink etc. Bit of a same.

Lovely course, condition was overall fantastic compaired with the next doors Premier course. Overall greens were far better amnd although it seemed the tee boxes had have to be moved around a little it did not take away from the day at all. Would defo reccomend and come back just to play this course, but would not stay at the hotel.

Feels like a slightly harsh review as the weatehr has made it hard to maintain anything very well. But an honest reveiw of our round... Fairways were good, but as soon as you roll into the 'first cut' on most of the holes you are in some pretty thinck grass, far thicker than it should be. Greens were very patchy and ball wound just bobble along. They need a good roll and treatment which im sure will come in the next few months. Clubhouse very tired inside.

Played golf for over 50 years and never played one hole as wet as the 18 here, course should not be open. No changing room so when we finished nowhere to change and shower. Told we can use the Spa! Couldn’t walk through hotel with mud up to your knees and as the showers not working No Point.

The course was destroyed from the rain but remained open. We didn’t finish the round and came back in early. Obviously the rain hasn’t helped but the overall condition was awful.

Poor weather led to it being very wet in spots but the many of the greens very covered in unrepaired marks.

We found this course harder and longer than the Premier, as our scores were well down on the previous day. Very boggy in places but again, after all the rain we have had recently it wasn’t a surprise. A lot of time spent looking for balls. Even so, we all enjoyed the trip.

Overall it was a pleasure to play the course. After all the rain we have had recently it played quite well.

Similar, with previous weather causing problems and grass too long on edge of narrow fairways, particularly back 9. However good course with some excellent holes.

Rough on side of fairways very wet and long with a lot of time spent by all looking for balls; however on second round mowers were out and grass improved considerably. Caused by prolonged wet weather.

A stunning golf course with incredible views. Bunker rakes had there own stands so they were out of the way. Club shop staff didn't have the flexibility to find a solution to sell a drink of water on a really hot day was the only disappointment. Would definitely play here again.

Beautiful golf course in excellent condition, with a variety of challenges and friendly staff, would definitely play here again. Nice touch with free cold water on the bar as it was a scorching hot day.

Difficult course - lots of challenges - but first cut rough was too big, we lost balls here due to heigh of grass and grass cutting still being on

I joined up with Pat and Lorraine from Derby, who were a pleasure to partner. Again the course would benefit from good signage. But fantastic course which was thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely return

As solo player, 2 groups of players let me through, got lost after 3rd, but regained position. Better signage to next tee would be more helpful. Greens were patchy but perfectly readable and putted true. Overall, brilliant day at fantastic course.

Similar to the championship course. Ponds and lakes need sorting out.

Course and greens in very good condition, pace of play was very slow, 4 hours to play 15 holes. We walked in after 15 holes as it was very frustrating to watch a senior 4 ball take an age to play every shot and who refused to let us through.

The bar area and locker rooms are in need of decorating, although the food was tasty and good value. The course was in good condition considering the amount of rain, the greens were very good. Pace of play was quite slow, took 4 hours 20 mins

I think we must have been the first on the course as we never saw any golfers in front of us and we were always a complete hole in front of the following group. I pleasure after the previous day.

Unfortunately we were following a group who I can only describe as novices. The round took over 6 hours!!!

Absolutely brilliant course, again in great condition. Greens were super fast on the day we got around. Really well maintained.

Thought course than the championship. One spectacular par three. Greens quite poor. Could have done with an in between cut from fairway to thick grass.

The course has the feel of a members course that the Championship course potentially lacked. It was in excellent condition with some challenging holes. The layout of the course isn't ideal with some pretty long treks between green and tee bed and would definitely recommend a buggy. A half way house would be a welcome addition as well. All in all a good course though.

The course was in excellent condition especially considering recent weather, the greens were challenging without being impossible. It felt like the course could use a little more variation with only 3 PAR 3s and very similar 400 yard Par 4s it felt like another couple of par 3s were needed to make the round a little more interesting. That said there are some stunning holes matched by the views out over Cheshire and beyond.

Very disappointed at the restriction of buggies on the course. We had 4 buggies booked for 6 ladies out of a party of 12. One lady couldn't play, 2 ladies played and had to give up after 5 holes, two ladies played 9 holes and had to come in. We paid the full amount for trolleys of £14 pp, but none of us completed the course we should have been emailed, postponed and a return visit for all 12 offered!!

Of the two courses this one was by far in better condition. The fairways, Greens and first cut of rough were maintained and well groomed even though it had the same weather as the premier course. Therefore it was a lot less wet and muddy than the first one. Definitely designed for the bigger hitters with is very forgiving fairways and length of the holes generally.

Club house was basically just a bar. The main golf shop was back at the hotel. The course itself had obviously had lots of rain recently as the ground was still very wet and muddy. Course was challenging as the fairways were tree lined and it was designed to best use the contours of the land.

Championship course was better than the Premier, greens and tees were in better condition greens especially, course was a better test of golf we all agreed in our party, but slow play once again spoiled what is a good course, again could do with a marshal talking to groups for slow play.

Tees were very poor condition in need of some TLC, course in general was ok greens were slow and patchy with what looked like some disease starting in a few greens. Very slow round 5 hours, waiting on every tee from the 3rd hole, on the par 3 15th there was 3 groups (12 golfers) waiting on the tee not acceptable really, could do with a marshal, chasing people up for slow play

The greens were not the best and very slow compared to what I am used to. The course itself given the weather was in good condition, other than the tee areas which were poor. The biggest complaint was the lack of facilities at the halfway house on one of the hottest days of the year, we could not get a drink??

Nice afternoon with no rush at all, clubhouse and pro shop limited with few facilities and looked a bit tired but little need for them given the facilities at the hotel.

It was the Friday so going to be busy . Front 9 was average in pace of play . The back 9 tediously slow 1 hour per 3 holes Just over 3 hours for the back 9 Again the course and surroundings look old and it needs some care and attention

Long course from back tees. Nice wide fairways on many holes and rough not too bad. On both courses ball doesn’t really sit up on fairways, so no problem for better players but not easy for the high handicapper (me) to get clean strike with woods.

Rough not too punishing. Main drawback is quite a walk between greens and a number of tees.

We had a very good front nine only for a four ball who must have started on the tenth ? and then we waited on every hole after that but luckily it was a lovely day and the course was in much better condition than the premiership course

When we arrived there was not a sole or sign to tell us if it was open every door was locked it was like a ghost town we went back to the hotel to told that it was open and that we should walk down to the front of the building ? Where were the signs ? Very annoying if one has not been before

Good but did not get our original tee time wrre 45 min later.

Everyone enjoyed this course and the greens but the first cut needs to be shorter as any indiscretion meant time was wasted looking for balls even though you could be within a few feet them. Interesting holes, good greens and in good condition. A general comment: signage was limited and most of the players were strangers to the course!

First cut grass was too long and too much time spent looking for balls on a new course to all the group. Many of the holes had the potential to be interesting and challenging but the general condition and layout left a lot to be desired. Greens were very poor. none of the group would have liked to play on it again!

Lovely the course and thought the greens were good. We were a two ball so the round was very slow as there were four balls in front who kept loosing balls and not calling us through. Had to push through at one stage as some don’t seem to know the etiquette .

It was a great course - interesting and varied with some challenging holes. The fairways were muddy but I guess it is that time of year - greens were excellent. good facilities at the clubhouse.

This is a very straightforward, mainly flat course but long.. We used our own trolleys and it would have been longer if we had used a buggy as the buggies have to stay on the paths. The fairways were pretty muddy and grass quite long so very wet and muddy feet by the end. The greens were in excellent condition. Disappoint4d that they did not have a proper air blow shoe/trolley cleaner we had so much mud on our trolleys and had to store them in the car overnight.

We had a buggy, which are £35, expensive. Our course is £18 only. The Staff were friendly. Course is good, but wet. We lost several balls due to leaves and struggled with placing ball on suitable grass to play our ball. For this time of year,condition to be expected I guess.

For the time of year greens were good, the course could of done with a cut but with recent rain I understand why this wasn't done.

Luckily the ladies could have the buggies on this course so that was good as all could play. Again, this course does not cater for the female golfer on the tees with the information needed. I have never seen such a lack of information for female golfers as on these courses. Unfortunately, the weather was really bad so didn't really get to appreciate the course the same. We decided to finish the competition on the 9th hole as it was taking so long to play, over two and a half hours front 9 to play.

Arrived on time for first tee at the pro shop to be told that the 2 buggies ladies had booked were not available as the course was closed to buggies because of rain. I asked how my 4 ladies were to play as they medically needed a buggy. The reply was a shrug. I was informed that this gentleman had tried to ring YGT that morning to tell them the buggies were off but there was no reply for him so he left a message and that it was up to YGT to let us know as our booking was with them not the hotel and he did not have my number to ring me. He informed me he had rung YGT at 0745hrs and they should have notified me. I did not, and still have not had any info from YGT as to this message being left. Unfortunately, my party had all left to travel by this time anyway so could not have packed their electric trollies before. It had been raining for some days so surely the golf team must have known the night before that buggies were to be off! I did not know that we would have to drive to the Premier course to tee off. That again posed a problem as we had to factor this into the timing whilst waiting for the coffee and buns. Eventually, at the Pro shop on the Premier course we were told there was only 1 electric trolley left. 1 lady took that and 2 others tried the pull trolleys. 1 lady stayed in the hotel as she could not manage any trolley.The 2 ladies only did 9 holes as could not manage to pull 18. The gentleman in the Pro shop informed me that we were late for our tee time too!!! He said we were down to play just after 11oclock but we had 11.40hrs on the info for our tee times from YGT. The course itself is difficult to follow if you play off the red tees, as ladies do. The ladies tees have only 2 red markers on them. They do not have any identification of the hole number or of the stroke index. The men's tees however, have all the information on the yellow and white tees with hole numbers and stroke index. In fact there were a number of lovely benches for the men to sit, not such seating on any ladies tees. Very sexist.The course itself is pleasant to play, wide forgiving fairways. On a sunny day with a little bit run I think it would be a very enjoyable course to play

This is a great course in picturesque settings, its quite long, however quite open so not overly difficult for higher handicappers. Again a 5 hour round, but on the Premier course the pro advised that they are moving to 10 in tee slots next year which will help. The greens were OK.

Satisfaction was affected by a delayed start to a 5 hour round meaning we played the last hole in darkness and got back to the 19th and it was closed at 1815! The course itself was good, although the greens were OK, but not great.

A good course with a couple of signature holes.We found the course in good condition for late Sept. As this course is adjacent to the hotel it very handy without the need for the short drive to the Premier course.

There was a charity golf day when we played. It was very slow because they would not let anyone through. At one point there were 8 groups on 3 holes all standing and waiting.
