The course measures just over 7,200 yards from the championship markers and with a dramatic finishing hole in the 550 yard par-5 18th there is sure to be some excitement when Monte Rei hosts a professional tournament in future years.
Although the course can satisfy the longest hitters it is around the greens where shots will be dropped, the subtle undulations on the putting surfaces as well as numerous runoff areas ensure that only the best struck shot will find the right part of the putting surface.
With this breathtaking golf course complimented perfectly by stunning views Monte Rei is a golf course that is etched on your golfing soul. Monte Rei Golf Resort is one of the finest holiday destinations to emerge in recent years, regularly rated the number one course in Portugal. With an emphasis on service and five-star luxury, those fortunate to visit this luxury resort will have an experience that they won’t forget.
Make sure you pack a camera with you for numerous great golfing pictures, most notably on the 226 yard 11th hole and the 18th where a large lake runs all the way up to the front of the green.
Signature Hole: Hole 18, Par 5, 548 yards, SI 15
The 18th is an outstanding finishing hole. A long, downhill par 5, with a tempting play to go for the green in two, for those not feeling the weariness of the round’s golf. However, this option should be considered by the long hitters only and golfers should take caution of the lake before the green, ready to catch any mis hit approach shots.

Lovely and well equipped apartment easy walk to clubhouse. As it’s remote we wanted to eat most meals on site but the clubhouse bar was not that appealing for Breakfast, lunch and dinner so we went to the supermarket and ate in, not what we were expecting. To be fair it is the quiet season but we wouldn’t have stayed 4 nights if we’d known about the other restaurant being closed.

The villas at Monte Rei are amazing and by far the best accommodation I've stayed in on a golf course from a size and also quality point of view. We visited the Grill and the Veranda restaurant and the staff were super friendly, accommodating and the service was quick.

We stayed in a three bed Villa for our trip and it was incredible. The facilities within the complex are all first class and the staff cannot do enough to ensure you have an amazing trip. A must stay venue if you golf in the Algarve.

Taking a side the fact it took 5 hours and we waited on everyone hole, the course it self was not what was expected. From all the stories we have been told this should be the right up there with one of the best golf courses in the world but unfortunately when we played it the course conditions were not that great. It was tired, greens weren’t exactly mint and we were later informed they have a planned closure coming up which is probably the reason for the course condition.

The course lived up to expectations and we will definitely go again. Rather put off by being told we could only practice an hour before playing even though it was very quiet, understandable in the busier months, however the staff were lovely and after telling us the hour rule let us go and practice a bit earlier. The clubhouse bar needs a refurbishment if guests are expected to eat most meals there.
