Great value course was in great shape for the time of year. Greens ran true will be back next year

Everything was fantastic, only complaint is there’s a supplement for steaks at dinner and it doesn’t tell you how much so when we all ordered steak we had to pay £10-£18 extra

Hotel and facilities were fantastic for our group. Driving range, bars, restaurant, pool etc was all great. The bedrooms were fine on the face of it. However we had a broken shower in one of the rooms, broken shower holder in my room and one of the baths didn’t drain in another of our rooms which meant they couldn’t use the shower or bath. The rooms and hotel all looked great but there were certainly a lot of problems was you look a little further.

Lovely hotel and I have stayed before so familiar territory- however the stand out for me was the staff. So helpful, courteous and very polite. This was very impressive and noticeable. Thank you

Been several times but sadly seeing a decline in standards on and off the course. Still incredible value for money. Rooms have no air con and I’d say the biggest disappointment is that the bar no longer sells Guinness. May seem like a small detail but incredible own goal

Really comfortable room and Breakfast was excellent. No Guinness at the bar which was unfortunate for my group and the "coffee shop" seems a bit out of place with its American Diner style.

Hotel and facilities very good room clean and comfortable. Bar prices a little on the high side but overall the trip was reasonable value for money.

The room(s) was very well presented.All the staff were very helpful. The evening meal and breakfast was well received by my party of 16. All other facilities offered very clean and tidy.

Rooms comfortable but as an older group we missed grab rails to help access to over bath shower.

We had the 2 room apartments facing the ninth green, very nice and spacious with every thing you could need. The hotel facilities are the same, everything you could need ! Evening meal and breakfast was very good and the staff throughout are very attentive and friendly. Everyone in the group at some stage said the same thing "we should make this place an annual event" says it all really.

Rooms were lovely food was poor no water with the meal no vegetables or salad with the mains and food was late and only just warm with no actual taste

There was some confusion when I paid the final bar bill for all of my group. There was a separate restaurant bill as well as our drinks bill. The receipts weren't available so I'm waiting to hear back from their accounts dept.

Great place to stay, great room and very good facilities. Disappointed with our dinner as the quality had dropped since our stay in May. Breakfast however was great.

Really enjoyable stay at a fantastic resort. Great facilities, amazing value for money and something to please everyone at the resort. A special shout out to Amy in the cocktail bar who was absolutely brilliant!

A great hotel for a golf break. Nice size rooms, a choice of restaurants for meals. We particularly liked being able to arrive and park and forget about the cars for a few days. It meant we could enjoy a few beers straight after our rounds without having to drive to a nearby hotel.

Beautiful hotel set in spectacular countryside. Our room was spacious, very clean and appeared to be recently redecorated. The bathroom was perfect, the shower really powerful and the water hot.

Great stay, just disappointing food. With the Dinner B&B offer, we got the choice of a starter and main. Anything else was extra. For example, if you chose the chicken schnitzel, you got a chicken schnitzel with a fried egg on it, nothing else. The consensus was that the fried eggs were left over from breakfast. If we go back we have decided not to take the meal offer, and instead book dinner at the pub a short walk down the drive.

This was a return visit as our group of 8 thoroughly enjoyed our stay last year. This year was less good. Although the staff were very nice and helpful, the catering side let us down. The food was fairly poor on the whole and we missed the carvery which had been so good. Wine and bar drinks have become extortionate

Hotel met expectations, staff and facilities were great.

Hotel was very clean and tidy. Great sports bar with loads of tv’s. Bar staff also changed tv channel for us to be able to watch a sport that currently wasn’t showing when we walked in.

Very good hotel look forward to going back there

Lots to do. Spacious rooms. Sports bar is an attractive option. Excellent coffee/ice cream shop. Beers and wine are expensive.

Old Thorns is a serious golf resort. It was larger and grander than I expected. Everything worked properly to a high standard. I can't think of anything to criticise.

Food could have been better in the restaurant.

Didn't use the room much but very comfortable and clean, staff were very good and the evening meal and breakfast had good choices.

Seemed like many of the F&B staff were either very new or inexperienced with little knowledge of what they were doing or what they were selling - nice enough in manner though. Hotel reception excellent and knowledgeable. Champagne bar good overall with one of experienced guys very good in quality of service, knowledge and manner - again other pretty inexperienced. Sports Bar just too bright I suggest - when not busy (as Saturday night) makes for an odd atmosphere/vibe. Room really nice fit and facilities wise, but with no A/C just too hot, even in mid-April! Couldn’t open window on Ground floor to cool room of someone could reach in to open the door - major security design fail I’m afraid. Great facility overall that could be just as good as The Belfry if staffing issues/training improved….

The Hotel is very clean and well maintained, the Hotel staff are friendly and welcoming and informative, A lovely three day stay lovely surroundings.

Beautiful 2 bed apartment with everything you needed. Nicely appointed and with a great view across the golf course. Food was excellent too. Very relaxing couple of days.

Excellent value and facilities.

A brilliant one stop shop for couples, groups, golfers or spa weekenders. The facilities are very good all round, the breakfast, dinner and hotel rooms are all excellent. The golf course is nicely designed and interesting a very good challenge . It’s a busy course but play flows smoothly, the conditions are not the best but great when everything is considered. I would say a buggy is a must, there are some long uphill walks from green to tee. Old Thorns is definitely worth a visit.

Great place with excellent helpful staff .. our only disappointment was the dinner quality. It was bland and barely warm. I have been to Old Thornes in the past and the food was very good so I am hoping this was just an off night

Quite an expensive surcharge for a steak at dinner. But beautifully cooked none the less.

Great Time, staff really friendly

The bedroom and twin beds were a good size, fresh and clean. The allocated time for dinner was 8.30 .. a bit late for my choice. It certainly is a very busy hotel.

Really well set up for a great golf weekend, the bars and restaurants cater for all and are sensibly priced. Staff all very nice and accommodating.

The room was very nice clean and comfortable,The Golfer’s menu was very limited,the food in the restaurant was very poor . meat was nice and fresh the rest of it was poor . The table was sticky and the cutlery stuck to it . The following night we dined in the bar, food was a marked improvement everything clean and staff were nice and friendly.

The evening meal was great. Breakfast was carnage. No Coffee!! Breakfast wasn’t great. Too many people

Had an unexpected upgrade to a penthouse which was great. Food was decent. Bar service a bit slow due to number of staff vs number of golfers and event. Happy experience overall.

Hotel was fabulous, although very busy. The room was perfectly adequate and clean and comfortable. The food was good at dinner although being a Sunday the main course was a carvery which you can get at the Toby. Would have preferred it not be have been a carvery. Sports bar was very good.

The hotel is very good complaint bar prices and food manager took me out of dinner to say we had only paid for 18 meals which was rather embarrassing

From the time we arrived at the venue we knew we were going to enjoy our stay. Everything "Your Golf Travel" said it would be. Lots of parking, great signage and the staff that were very friendly and professional. The accommodation was large and very clean, with a full range of sundries provided. Overall it was just what we needed after the excellent round of golf we played. Food in the restaurant was excellent, as were the different bars to relax in. We will definitely visit again.

First time visiting as a group of 18. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff and the atmosphere were spot on. Course is a good challenge although a little slow to get round. Greens were fast and in great condition. Only criticism is it lacks a proper range otherwise it's well worth a visit

Room not bad for English standards. The food was awful. Dinner was poor. Breakfast was woeful.

Hotel & restaurant was very good. The golf wasn't good 5 hours & 40 minutes very slow after the first 4 holes we were held up on every shot

Easy check in and out. Friendly helpful staff. Room was a good size.but too hot. Lacked a fridge. Golf package offered a limited menu for dinner as just a carvery. Vegetables were undercooked. Breakfast choice was good. Dinner staff were very good and friendly. Drinks prices were very high. Good sports bar but no quieter bar as others were not in use.

We had a good stay but the drinks were very expensive without the 10% discount that we usually get. Also the hotel had only booked us in for one night which was very stressful to start the trip with. Also the food was very samey and not that great.

My wife booked this for a christmas present however when we went for food after golf we were told we missed our reservation which we were never told we had one

Good apart from the last evening when we were told that the main restaraunt was closed due to a "problem in the kitchen". We were redirected to the sports bar which was not set out for meals at all let alone a party of nine seated together.

The hotel seems to have expanded since our last visit. It still has all our needs catered for. The only complaint from my group was the cost of drinks, which were very expensive.

The accommodation was first class

The staff on reception were brilliant. We had a single and double room and they were in different blocks which was ok but a shame. The man on reception checked if any family rooms were available and moved us which really did make our stay special.

Our 4th visit and once again our group of 8 were well looked after by your excellent staff. Our only concern would be the condition of the golf course which was starting to look very used.

Staff at reception were delightful. Room very comfortable though room 202 had constant noise from something (boiler?). Only the sports bar was open so there was nowhere to gather except in a room full of hard surfaces where you had to shout to make yourself heard. Drinks overpriced. Carvery provided a very male meal! Pies and meat. Could have been more imaginative.

Our Jersey contingency had a brilliant weekend organised by Barry Ross. For what we paid, hotel was excellent and the course was fabulous, we couldn’t fault anything. Rooms, food, spa facilities, staff, and the golf, all excellent for a group of ladies.

The whole weekend was really good. Exceptional value for money. Looks like were going again next year!!

Restaurant staff, particularly the Manager requires some training on customer care. A reasonable dispute over wine alternative/cost resulted in an unreasonable threat of golf cancellation on the following day. Very unprofessional.

Great facilities and excellent staff!

3rd time for me and it never disappoints. I took two friends for a one night Golf trip who had not been there before and both were mightily impressed and will return with their partners soon.

It was a shame that one restaurant was shut. so all we had to choose from was the sports bar menu. Which was good for one day, but two days of fried food without vegetables was a little do much.

The actual hotel and resort is lovely. Really enjoyed the break. A couple of areas to improve: - Sports bar service is slow as they were shortstaffed. - Quality of the food in the Sports Bar could be improved - it was all a bit beige chips/scampi/breadcrumbed chicken etc. - It is always a shame when you stay at a hotel for two nights and the Spa is virtually fully booked. As a hotel resident it is a shame that you are so compromised in this way. Having said that, I would definitely come here for a golf break again.

Staff were very helpful at all points.room was clean and aired and comfortable.food options were excellent. The carvery was a clear winner with the golf group I was heading.the bars are expensive and can take time to be served.only minus for us.

Absolutely brilliant time. The rounds of golf were slow but the course was in lovely condition. Even the fact that my car wouldn't start when we left and the maintenance man started the car with a battery charger was fantastic. The course was

We have visited Old Thorns over 10 times and the facilities and staff were excellent as always. However, the evening meal was disappointing. The quality was v good but portions were too small. Bar prices were also much higher.

Overall stay was fine, just badly let down by the restaurant. 2.5 Hours for a 2 course dinner which had to be pre ordered at check in. No reason for the delays. The reception agreed to remove some drinks from the bill but it was dreadful.

Unfortunately the only place to have dinner was the sports bar The food was ok but definitely not great and pretty noisy

Excellent facilities, lovely apartment for four, Great gym and pool included in package. Food now carvery which was OK but not great. Value attracts a few rowdies in the bar but overall no complaints.

Bar prices for food and drink a little on high side. Rooms very comfortable.Wi Fi good coverage throughout and no charge.Shower was excellent.

Only downside is the lack of choice of only carvery on the golf package deals, although cost is the same those on the golf breaks cannot chose al a carte menu choices.

The only thing is they need more staff in the Bar's when busy.

We had a great stay. 27 people on a golf break. Golf was on time and pace of play was good, the starter Steve was amazing and so helpful, he couldn’t do enough for us. The only downside was the evening meal, we were told a 2 course carvery. When we have been there in the past it was a choice of starter/main course or main course/dessert. Sadly this time the only choice was main course carvery (which was good) and dessert. Only one choice of dessert available a chocolate cake, no ice cream nothing. So for the people who didn’t like chocolate they only had one course, when we have paid for two. Also for the dietetic people in the group they would have obviously preferred a starter. So the evening meal was very disappointing .

A few of the party were very unimpressed with the quality of the carvery food. We also pre booked buggies and it seems a miscommunication between the hotel and the pro shop resulted in a few groups not having enough. The pro shop staff were very accommodating with the offer of free trolleys, but the situation still shouldn't have occurred. It does seem like every year we have a similar issue. However, having said all this, the overall stay was great and if they could keep an eye on the food quality then it would be back to it's best.

The hotel was comfortable, but very busy. The room was quite basic, but well-equipped and clean. The breakfasts were good, and the carvery dinners were fine, but two consecutively were enough. Had we stayed longer, three or four would be too repetitive. The hotel facilities were fine, but busy.

Very good. Staff all extremely friendly. Room clean and tidy and very close to restaurants and bars. Restaurant was OK. On a golf deal and food choice was only a Carvery and Chocolate Brownie. Would have liked more choice and to have the option of a wider menu.

Slow check in. Difficult yo find room at first. If anyone has walking difficulties ask for room closer to reception. Room fine. No separate shower. Dinner - you have one option only for starter & sweet. Main meal has to be carvery or pay extra. Not made clear on booking.

Needed to have more rooms with balcony, no air con made hard to sleep in heat and beds were pretty small.

Disappointed in the dinner - Cauliflower Soup/Carvery/Profiterolls Carvery aimed for quantity not quality - parsnips were solid! roast potatoes were soft and the whole meal was luke warm. The restaurant was incredibly noisy. I will not be booking for my Captains Away Break because of this

Comfortable rooms. Good location and value for money. Nice food.

Our room was not serviced until we reminded them at 6.00 pm despite the sign left in the door all day. We rely on internet connection 24/7 but it failed to reach our room - despite a complaint to Reception.

Hotel facilities were good, staff done their best but were struggling to keep people happy because they were under staffed for the number of guests. Dinner was a disappointment, we were not offered a menu but told the only option was a carvery followed bye profiteroles, kept waiting for a long time for drinks and water. over all disappointing.

Lovely hotel with great facilities, there was a wedding on at the same time but you wouldn't have noticed. Plenty of staff around who were kind and courteous. The only down side was the temperature in the room, which could only have been set to 'Hell', they did provide a fan which just blew hot around the room.

The place is stunning. It is very picturesque and laid out well. The interior design etc is so beautifully done. The people are so polite and accommodating. We went for golf but that aside, i would definitely go for the facilities, spa, weddings etc. Beautiful.

The room was clean it had everything you. The room is on ground floor so we couldn't open the window at night it made sleeping very uncomfortable with no air conditioning.

Good hotel we enjoyed our stay the main concern was that on the first night we had a choice of starter, carvery or dessert, the next evening we were offered no starter carvery again and only one desert . We complained and they let us have a choice from the sports bar menu on our last evening . They told us that they were experimenting with their menus and the staff was agreed with us that no one wants a carvery every evening . The hotel dealt with our complaint very well and we were more than satisfied

Everything was exactly as expected. Good clean rooms, food in restaurant for Dinner (carvery) and breakfast was very good. Only downside was cost of drinks at the bar. £6.50 a pint is a little excessive.Staff friendly and helpful

Very clean room, everything you needed, the WiFi was very good as well, which you cannot say about all resorts.

If there is a better Golf resort in the South of England please show it to me !

Lovely hotel. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Quite hard to find your way around but got used to it. Room very nice although too warm, could only open the window by a cm! Generous dinner and breakfast. Great swimming pool. Would definitely recommend.

The complex as a whole is really nice the surroundings and lovely but there are a few things that they need to improve. A few of the staff need to improve their customer service skills and smile a little. The food was ok but it would be nice to have a choice and not "you get what we have or what the chef makes". The rooms need to have air conditioning as they were very warm. You need 2 sets of towells and not just 1 for a 2 night stay. They need to supply a coffee machine that gives you a choice of coffee and not just what is in the urn i.e. coffee. They are only little things but would make that difference.

Got fantastic potential. Unfortunately the sauna and steam room were not available on our stay. The sports bar only opens at 12 and the driving range ran out of balls. So from checking out at 11 and teeing off at 12:30, there was t a lot to do. Food was good and staff were very friendly.

On the whole we enjoyed our break however there are a few things I will feedback. On arrival there was no room list available for us so I needed to go through the entire party to sort this which really should have been ready beforehand. Room: toilet bowl was cracked, toilet door latch was broken, shower control was broken (lever missing) the room keys needed to be reprogrammed 3 times as they just stopped working, tea and coffee was not replenished during our stay. Evening food: the food was a disgrace, worse than a tiny carvery, cheapest of the cheap, carvery was appalling and seemed there were no other choices, only turkey and a carrot wellington (whatever the hell that is?) on the first night, second night gammon and a chicken quarter with the worst cottage pie I’ve ever seen potato on top was like pastry and the filling was mostly lentils with one “lump” of mince! Desert was a joke, clearly been sitting in the fridge for days and we were only offered what they needed to get rid of, other options were available as we saw other guests with different deserts. Breakfast: a reasonable choice but no care was taken to cook the eggs nicely, either snotty or well and truly over cooked. The staff on the whole were ok but some seemed disinterested. The drinks are extortionate £6.80 for a pint of beer £10 for a glass of wine. I’ve read similar experiences to mine but I hoped they weren’t true. We are a group of 16 and growing each year, I would not return because of the food alone!! What’s wrong with menu choices (chosen each morning for the evening) as has been the case at every other golf venue I’ve been to previously (and we’ve been to a few)

Awful food. Awful service. Brilliant golf course - wouldn’t stay at the hotel again food/health offering was atrocious.

Great stay one of the best so far

We had booked a golf package, which included breakfast and an evening meal. Breakfast was very good but the evening meal was poor. There was no was choice of starter or dessert and the only alternative of main course was a vegetarian option. The soup on the first might was very gloopy and the main course needed potatoes or something to accompany the belly pork and few carrots and single slice if celeriac.

Lovely hotel. Food was very nice and rooms perfect for what we needed. Pleasant staff and good atmosphere in the sports to watch Liverpool beat Man U 7-0.......

The stay was very good. Unfortunately the dinner including was extremely small and not filling at all. The 'golf special' was only 2 courses and the choice was very limited. When the food came the portion was tiny and this did frustrate use as we then had to buy more food.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. Facilities were amazing and live the sports bar. Drinks are very expensive and this was my only negative.

My five friends and I had a great stay at Old Thorns. The rooms were comfortable and the facilities in the hotel were fantastic. The only thing that lets it down is the quality of the food in the Kings Restaurant. You are better off eating in the sports bar where the standard of the food is much higher.

Accommodation was clean & comfortable, the bathroom was in good order & a great shower. The room was very hot though, but that is being very picky. Would thoroughly recommend.

Really good weekend away. Everything was arranged v well by John from yourgolftravel. The courses were both In good Nick consider the recent weather. The room and food at the hotel was excellent especially considering what a good deal we had. Would thoroughly recommend Old thorns for an overnight break

My wife and I had a very enjoyable two night golf break in a large recently updated bedroom and there was also a new carpet in the corridor.All the staff were pleasant and helpful. The golf course was in good condition especially the greens considering the recent hot weather.

Had a lovely time BUT there is no air conditioning so don’t recommend it for the summer. The rooms were sweltering. There was an electric fan but it was barely useful. Apart from that it was excellent.

Have stayed at the Old Thorns a few times now and always good.

Great stay!

A good trip but with some negatives. The hotel food was poor quality. Only a carvery every night in the main restaurant. Becomes boring and repetitive by the second evening. The Sports Bar only served processed and fried food. No air-con in the bedrooms. Finally a hotel rammed full of hen and stag parties and a wedding every day. Not really what we were after b

Hotel room was nice and clean. Beds comfortable. Facilities were great only thing wrong was having a carvery every night. Friday night one was ok but the one I had Sunday was superb. Would be nice if they did a different sort of buffet like a curry night etc. other than that might group were happy with everything else.

Very nice place in a very convenient location just off the motorway. Leisure facilities were excellent and a very tasty carvery in the evening.

The rooms were adequate but in need of refurbishment. It was an extremely hot day and it would have been appreciated if they had provided a fan as there was no Aircon. The staff were all great very friendly and helpful.

Good room, service and facilities. Could do with some variation on the restaurant menu; enjoyed the carvery but became samey after three days. Despite complaining, had no wifi in the room for the whole stay. This was also the same on the bar terrace. This was a real issue, and we would need confirmation of improvement in this aspect before returning.

Comfortable and clean room. Adequate for a golf trip for 2 nights but would upgrade for a longer stay.Would be nice to have an a la carte eating option rather than just a carvery although that was of a good standard.

I have been to Old Thorns many times and always enjoy the experience that they offer. I would just say that some small changes have been made which stop me marking this down for 5 stars The starters on the evening meal is now a choice from 3 options rather than the buffet that used to be offered The menu in the sports bar was I felt limited and expensive And the pool area and changing rooms looks tired with lots of lockers broken and the area small and cramped

Accommodation was absolutely perfect and a short walk to the main building.Loved it I would highly recommend it.

Very nice hotel in lovely countryside but not enough staff meant the evening meal had to be a carvery and only the sports bar could be opened and not the more comfortable Atrium bar.

I can only say we were not impressed. Upon arriving we thought we'd have lunch before playing and were not at all enamoured with the price of the food and then the shock of over £6 and pennies for a pint of lager. We then went to get the buggies and thought that £40 for the hire of a buggy for 18 holes more than exorbitant. Golf played and it's back to the bar for another posh lager or two, and so to the restaurant where we were presented with the smallest menu in the western world...'twas a carvery. All very nice but the beef was as tough as old boots and the parsnips like leather, the turkey was fine though. Sadly the second night was the same as the first and when I asked the young waiter if he could supply a roll to go with the soup he replied he'd have to ask the chef. He was quickly back with the answer, and I quote "Chef says no" (shades of Little Britain). At that point the lady manager came by and said she would sort it but asked if bread and butter would suffice to which I replied that that would be fine, and she duly brought some back. It now turns farcical in that we ordered two red wines and two lagers to go with the meal and were, upon leaving presented with a bill for £3.20 as a service charge...wine was over £9 and pence a glass. As an aside there wasn't even biscuits in the rooms, a small thing I know but we've never come across that before as a way of saving money. All in all we were sorely disappointed, so much so we came home after breakfast on the Wednesday missing out on the golf for 2 days, an evening meal and a breakfast. Obviously we would never go back to that venue again. There were others in the hotel who also were not best pleased with the food as there was words being spoken with staff whilst waving the permanent 'Carvery' menu. I have to say that my group and I have regularly been to 3 star golfing venues which are far superior to that which we have just had to put up with.

The accommodation and general facilities at Old Thorns are very good. The staff were friendly and welcoming. If you have an electric car they’re plenty of chargers. The buggies are expensive at £40.00 and so is the beer at £6.00 a pint…

We were a group of 6 male golfers on a one night DBB deal with 2 rounds of golf, all at great value. Our visit was very enjoyable with staff very friendly and accommodating, rooms were comfortable. Food both from the Carvery and breakfast was varied, tasty and plentiful. The golf course was in good condition for March although a tricky test. Unfortunately our second round which was scheduled for 8am was delayed due to thick fog (2hours+) and with some of our group having commitments later in the day I approached the Pro Shop with a request for a credit note to play our round at a later date. This was confirmed without hesitation which demonstrates overall the professionalism and aim to please of this venue. Would highly recommend.

We stayed as part of one night golf deal. Good facilities and great room but there were some fairly minor issues which overall we found quite annoying. On arrival we had to use one of the franchised coffee/snack bars as the restaurant didn’t open until midday - so for example we couldn’t but a full English breakfast, just a prepacked roll or sandwich. The dinner was included in our package but virtually everything on the menu had an additional cost (eg £4.00 additional for cheese and biscuits). Breakfast was excellent.

High standard accommodation with very good restaurant and bar

Our second visit and it didn’t disappoint. Hotel is wonderful, staff are lovely. Restaurants and bars are super, gym and health club are fantastic, highly recommended.

Staff were excellent on reception and rooms were spotlessly clean. Power shower superb but rooms here are always too warm even with no heating on. Buggies are too expensive at £40 each and drinks are a rip off at £5 for a bottle of Speckled Hen. About £5.50 for a pint. Food was OK but not nearly as good as before as they have dropped the carvery mid week. Course is great and whilst wet when we were there it is a course worth playing. Overall value for money very good.

Overall a very good stay but beware of food supplements in restaurant ( not hidden but rather concealed with small type etc.) The Carvery on Sunday was excellent as was all the food.

Decent hotel but very empty in February- didn’t see or try the spa which I think is included. 10 Tesla recharge points but no other electric recharge in the huge car park. Very nice pub in the same road to the hotel. - 1/2mile away. The deer house does good food.

Fantastic venue. Would highly recommend for groups of all sizes. Food was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were modern and spacious. Sports bar was great for an evening pint and also provides a good food menu. Already planning a return visit.

Golf was great, sports bar and room were very good - but for me and the majority of the group the evening meal and restaurant was area was not to my liking, that said I know at least one guy who thought the meal was spot on so... Also all the bars closed before we would have liked. Kind regards

Fantastic stay!!!! the staff from reception desk to bar lounge, pro shop and the coffee house were excellent professional attentive and very accommodating. Golf course was challenging and very enjoyable and the room comfortable and clean all in all a great and memorable stay we will be back. My only negative was paying £12:80 for half a glass of house white in the restaurant which is probably the going rate but I found a bit over priced. room was nice but no tea bags for day two ? evening meal was fine and good quality but when we asked to order deserts we were told they were extra and not included in out package .I couldn't find any note of this on our booking . bar facilities are great but prices are extremely high . All staff were most courteous .

Staff were really friendly and welcoming, rooms clean and spacious. Main restaurant food was good and a good atmosphere. The quality of the cooked breakfast was a let down as was mentioned from a number of our group, maybe an off day, it happens.

Room was nice and spacious with very comfy beds! Food was really nice but if you don't enjoy a carvery there was no other main option and book your table before you arrive! Spa/pool area was lovely but our advice is to book your slot for that in advance too! The hotel is very well maintained with lots of space for all the numerous guests who are all visiting for various reasons - golf, weddings, spa breaks...!

Hotel, food and staff all great. Room far too hot though, not temperature control, but mobile aircon unit to plug in!! Stuffy so had to have window open overnight, which was bang opposite buggies so they woke us up first thing in morning so overall not a pleasant or good nights rest. Bed far to hard causing back problem. Great spa and team working there were good also

Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Staff very helpful. Food choice very restricted, but of good quality and well cooked and presented.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Old Thorns and would definitely go again. On the down side, the evening meal was average at best but the breakfast was below average. The service in the bar, which was table service only, was incredibly slow. Again the food in the Sports Bar wasn’t great. Champagne bar wasn’t open for service but you could take your drinks in from the Sports Bar. Time limit for Spa and swimming pool which was really disappointing. Even after all that we had a great time.

Good golf course and hotel. Food average. Booking arrangements NOT perfect. The Pro-shop denied out reservation of buggies and said YGT cannot make reservations for them. Eventually we did get buggies. In addition our reserved tee time was in fact incorrect (according to Pro-shop) - on the third day and we teed off 30 minutes late.

On arrival they didn’t have us on their system so had to squeeze us in so obviously an error either with them or your golf travel, however they handled it brilliantly and everything was fine after that.

This trip we cancelled several times due to covid. However, in the end we had a fabulous time. The golf course was excellent. Every member of staff we encountered was professional, really friendly and as helpful as they possibly could be. Exceptional value for money. Plus yourGolftravel staff were very responsive and helpful.

Hotel rooms were very pleasant, we asked for new towels every day, but they didnt turn up!, and the reception Manager was very rude when asked about the meal allowance for dinner included guests, the buggies are very expensive, but essential!, overall the venue is very nice, but at £6 per pint its quite expensive, and service in the bar is quite slow, but the waiters are very pleasant and try their best, suggest reception manager goes on a customer relations course, on how you should speak to people!

In view of the Covid restrictions Old Thorns felt a very safe environment to be in with masks being worn in all areas of the hotel bars and restaurants until you were seated and again if you needed to use toilets. The condition of the course left a bit to be desired as the fairways were in very poor condition. all in all an enjoyable stay.

Covid 19 rulings although needed meant you had to have a mobile phone with you at all times. Carvery now only on Sundays. Although masks were meant to be worn in the hotel many guests and staff did not. Standards not as good as our previous visits.

Had everything needed for a great weekend- football/ rugby on TVs in Spirts Bar with a good food choice

Enjoyed our stay but some of the restaurant staff need further training! We were taken to our table on both days but then nothing! There seemed to be no supervision. All youngsters.

Overall the rooms and service were very good however the dining experience just was not up to expectations. The Chinese option was not available at all due to Wedding bookings, they offered dining in the sports bar but it was very noisy. On Sunday we could not have fine dining due to a chef injury therefore had to use the carvery for the 3rd night running. Not what we expected and below par due to lack of choice!!!

The apartment we stayed in was excellent and the facilities were good. The food was ok but limited in choice given it was a cavery.

Our party of 14 were very happy with their stay at Old Thorns. The carvery was slightly under pressure running out of desserts day one and curry day two , so a staff of one in the kitchen and carvery was too low and needed an extra member of staff. The quality was fine though and staff attentive. I did however complain about the quality of the coffee in the carvery as it was truly awful and as they have a Starbucks I suggested that they started to but their coffee instead.

This is our third consecutive year at Old Thorns and we enjoy our visit each year! Would recommend alternative choices on the dinner menu rather than carvery though the carvery is very good. Also cost of wine in the bar needs looking at! Otherwise very enjoyable.

Good value hotel with helpful staff, interesting course.

Really nice place, rooms are clean & tidy. The facilities are excellent, pool, spa, gym. Sports bar was good but a little pricey but nothing more than you would expect, pleantyof TV's & pool tables. Champagne bar gets top marks as guest only after 12 and stayed open late. Dining area is very pleasent and the food was plentyfull & hot with breakafst being the same. If you choose to stay on a party theme night it's a win/win the place was full & buszzing. Staff work hard & are extremely pleasent

I found the service was great and the staff were very attentive to everyone's requirements.

The room was excellent and the facilities were very good. The restaurant was limited in its offerings and staff were lacking in knowledge about wine. That said the food was wholesome and plentiful.

The hotel was a lot different to the last time we stayed here years ago, much bigger. Overall we had a great stay, rooms comfortable, food at the carvery was good value. The Champagne bar was freezing with no atmosphere we went to the spike bar instead, much more enjoyable. Overall, an excellent venue.

The accommodation was everything you needed in a hotel. The rooms where very comfortable and clean. The restaurant was great and the staff friendly. The bar was not so good as they ran out of the 2 types of bitter that where on tap.

Lovely location. Excellent service in the restaurant. We were in a family suite which is outside of main hotel & it was very noisy in the early hours due to people ( conference delegates I think) drinking & smoking. I would recommend a room in the hotel next time.

I took 12 golfers to this wonderful hotel, food was out of this’s world. Rooms were spotless and staff were extremely friendly. The only down side was that the golf course looked a bit tattered. Although the greens were excellent tees and fairways were in poor condition. Saying that we all agreed we would defiantly come back again....

The accommodation is good but their drinks prices are very expensive. The Champagne Bar can get very busy in the evenings. Bills need to be closely checked as there were two errors on mine. They were corrected straightaway but were both in the hotel's favour so watch out.

Standard of hotel & facilities are good but as a golfing venue it falls short of providing a bar/lounge and outside area for drinks etc. This has now been developed into a sporting village type complex and concentrates on weddings and Corporate events. I will not be returning for future golf breaks to Old Thorns which is a pity as in the past I would always have recommended this to others for a golfing break.

My party of 9 were all well impressed with Old Thorns.

The golf course is a magnificent layout, with every hole very different and with manicured fairways and well kept bunkers. The greens were not good on the first day but were much better on the second/third days due to a light sanding.

Take lots of balls as there are water hazards everywhere!

The accommodation was first class and the food and wine were really good. The beer wasn’t too expensive either.

Although the greens were under repair when we played, the course at Old Thorns Manor was one of the best I've played and certainly felt like a Championship course. As a high handicapper I found it very difficult but with each hole presenting a new challenge and wonderful vista I didn't mind. My playing companion and I were therefore praising and cursing designer Peter Allis in equal measure!

The hotel itself boasted great facilities. The informal Sports Bar was perfect for an afternoon pint while the Champagne Bar was ideal for the evening. The leisure facilities were superb too and make this a good destination for a mixed party of golfers and non-golfers.

The staff were friendly but not as organised or attentive as you might expect from a 4-star hotel.

I booked last minute through Your Golf Travel who managed to find a place which ticked all the boxes in no time at all. Great work.

We’ve just returned from our golf trip to Old Thorns on which we played the Downs Course at Goodwood too. What a fantastic two days we had!

The courses were in first class condition from tee to green and to top it off, the bar was awaiting us to watch Rory secure his first Open victory on home soil.

The organisation from beginning to end was first class and we would have absolutely no hesitation in calling you again to book next year’s trip.

We were a group of 6 lady golfers, most of whom were playing Old Thorns for the first time. The golf course was beautiful, with wonderful mature trees, lakes of various sizes and some truly stunning views. It was in excellent condition too and we found the course to be challenging both technically and physically as it is quite spread out and both days we played the weather was quite sultry. 

Some of our group used a buggy and found this to be a useful asset between holes (especially when negotiating the locally known ‘cardiac hill’ between the 2nd and 3rd).

The Pro shop had a good selection of equipment on offer. We were rather surprised to find that our tee time on the second day had been put back half an hour without any notification but in the end it didn’t matter as the starter was able to get us off pretty close to our original time.

The hotel was great; very quirky as if a magpie had been busy collecting all sorts of interesting furnishings! It was spacious and modern with a champagne bar, sports bar and numerous function rooms. It is a busy wedding venue but is large enough for golfers and wedding guests to co-exist without any problems.

The reception staff and restaurant staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had the carvery for dinner which was extensive and tasty and the kitchen was really helpful in providing vegetarian flans and gluten free rolls to go with the soup.

The rooms were clean, spacious and well-appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Our three rooms were all located together which was very nice. Breakfast was delicious too, with a large selection.

We didn’t all have enough time to use the swimming pool but the facilities looked wonderful and a couple of ladies from our group enjoyed spa treatments which were also very good.

We had a brilliant stay and plan to return for 2 nights the next time. We would definitely recommend Old Thorns to others.

My weekend away at Old Thorns with my son (I am a new golfer) could not have been any better. It’s a very impressive golf complex and golf course and I would  not hesitate to go there again.

Food and hotel accommodation were also first class. When the time is convenient I will be booking up through yourgolftravel again.

Our gang of 12 from Barton on Sea GC booked our spring break for 2013 at Old Thorns again this year. We arrived on Monday 13th late morning and were greeted by Gemma and her team in the Sports Bar where we had tasty bar snacks to set us up for the afternoon round.

We registered at the Pro Shop and everything was already arranged by YGT regarding tee times, bag tags, cards etc and we set off in 3 x four ball groups. They seem to have let the fairways grow quite lush which is quite a change from our tight fairways by the coast. However the biggest disappointment was the fact that they had just dressed the greens. Most of us had difficulty getting the ball anywhere near the hole as there was such a lot of impedimenta. However the scenery was great as usual and there are some very beautiful and challenging holes on the course.

The hotel facilities were excellent, as was the evening carvery meal, as well as the buffet breakfast the next morning.

Due to the threat of rain we agreed to just play 9 holes on the Tuesday morning and then review our options. As it was the predicted band of rain swept in just as we were on or approaching the 9th hole so we called it a day, to save getting soaked and having a damp 75 minute drive home.

We retired to the Sports Bar again where Gemma organised our snacks and had the prize giving for the two days competitions.  

Our golf break was good value even though most paid for the single supplement but we were disappointed that the certain parts of the course i.e. the greens were not great. I hope that the right mix of rain and sunshine will help the course get back to its best in the next few weeks.

The golf course at Old Thorns is excellent with lots of challenging holes. It’s extremely well kept and laid out but I would say higher handicapped golfers may find it tough.

The clubhouse and resort are excellent with a separate sports bar and a posh bar although the entire place is very friendly. There is an excellent gym, pool and spa and the accommodation was comfortable. Beer was expensive at £5.20 a pint though!

The hotel is excellent value for money and the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Out of 10 I would give the overall experience 9.

As for YGT, I couldn't recommend you more highly. This was an easy booking, you’ve got polite staff and a late change was handled very well indeed.

This was our third stay at Old Thorns and as usual we had a really enjoyable time. It’s in a convenient location just off the A3 which makes it easy to get to.

The golf course is well maintained with many great views, interesting features and presented a stiff challenge to everyone in our mixed group of 2 men and 2 women (handicaps ranging from 17 to 36). We used our own trollies and felt we had had a good workout by the end of the day. Perhaps a buggy would be advisable for those who might struggle with the walk?

The hotel accommodation is superb. Clean, spacious rooms with tea and coffee making facilities, immaculate bathrooms, room safe, and although the hotel is a popular venue for weddings and parties, we did not experience any noise or disruption. We didn’t use the pool and saunas on this visit but have done so in the past and found them to be excellent.

There is a Starbucks on site which is great for coffees and snacks and the Sports Bar serves a range of sandwiches and bar meals. The buffet breakfast is extensive and very tasty. However the one weak spot is the evening meal which consists mainly of a carvery. This might suit groups of male golfers who come in ravenous after a day on the course but the choice for those who don’t eat meat is extremely limited – either a sad looking red onion and goats cheese filo tart or the tuna hot rock both at a £10 additional charge.

It ought to be possible to offer something like a piece of salmon instead of the meat at no additional cost.

That said we all thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay and two rounds of golf and would recommend it to others. YGT as usual provided excellent service and value for money – many thanks.

I would like to express my appreciation to the YGT team for once again providing a first class service to me and my colleagues having just returned from Old Thorns Manor.

Old Thorns easily lived up to our high expectations, providing us with a golf course that we found quite a challenge, with some of the holes literally taking your breath away. The view from the 5th tee was worth the trip alone and we found the greens true but very fast despite having a hailstorm on the first day.

The location of the venue is very easy to find being within a mile of the main A3 near Liphook, and the Hotel is all you would expect of such a high class establishment, with the rooms and food being of a high standard.

I would definitely recommend Old Thorns to anybody that was looking for a true test of golf along with top class accommodation.

We will definitely be contacting you again in the future to book our next golf adventure.

Was very wet the first day so lots of surface water but the 2nd day was fantastic! Will look at playing it in the summer months

Whilst the course setting was beautiful and looked fantastic in the autumnal sunshine. The overall condition of the greens and tee boxes left a lot to be desired. The course was so slow on both the days we played that we never actually finished a round before the sun went down. I think this was mostly down to the tee times we were given by your golf travel, which were late in the day for the time of year. It was a real shame that we couldn’t actually finish an entire round over the two days. I will definitely be looking for another provider when it comes to booking our golf trip for next year.

Starters were good and the Marshalls kept the pace going. Played 2 rounds and thoroughly enjoyed both - thanks

The walk between Green and tee is quite long so expect a 4 and a half hour round when it is running smoothly - which was us on Monday morning. A busy Sunday afternoon was over 5 hours. Course is in good condition considering the dry summer but not sure how it might fare in the winter.

Overall the course is great and very picturesque with elevation changes, water and interesting holes. Tees were a little beaten up but bearable. Second day tee time of 14:40 was too late in October as we finished in the dark. YGT shouldn’t really be offering tee times this late on this type of busy slow corporate course.

6 x four balls average 4.5 hrs Challenging course with no one under par. Enjoyable experience.

My party (16) throughly enjoyed the 36 holes we played. The course has something for all handicap players. Well worth playing and will definitely be going again in future.

Good condition greens hard but fair Weather obviously played a great part being sunny for this time of year overall great 2 days

Course was muddy and fairways and tees were in very poor condition. We had at least 4 of the group slip over due to the conditions underfoot. After a very dry summer it appeared there was lots of maintenance, grass cutting etc that had churned up the fairways.

Course was in very good condition but the greens will test your putting skills.you can't honestly your driving in on the range (too short) and we had an issue with the scoring app, (warning for those using it in future, write your scores down aswell) overall very enjoyable and well worth a visit.

Too many societies on the course who couldn't play golf very well so we had to wait .no marshals on the course which would have helped

It was difficult to play and appreciate the course because the playing conditions were so dry; ground like rock, and no grass on the fairways but this is no different from other courses at the moment. I was impressed to be given a gift from the pro shop, and water for those having a buggy, as well as a complimentary drink at the half way point on the first day.

Hot weather certainly doesn't help the condition so that is acceptable but not the pace. Maybe too many people on the course at the same time??????

Our round was slow but that was down to us being a two ball and expected it to be that way.

Really well designed course which is a true challenge for golfers of all abilities. Disappointed that the tee and pin positions weren’t changed at all over the 3 days that we were there.

Booked and was ensured there was no green maintenance during our trip or the 3 week build up so greens should be in good condition. Unfortunately turned up and greens had been scarified. Greens were poor and affected our trip due to the greens conditions. Shame as was looking forward to the trip. Hotel, faculties and staff were amazing. Really good venue but was let down with the booking.

Some of the flag positions were questionable.

The course is well maintained and in good condition taking into account the really hot weather we have had over the past few months. Every hole is different which makes the round interesting and fun. The greens were good , not too fast. The half way hut is well stocked

We love the Old Thorns course. Its a shame the 9th has been shortened, but otherwise a great course.

On our third day, our tee time had been brought forward from 10am to 9.45am without us being informed. I had to fight our corner to ensure we were not put to the back of the queue at the pro-shop, even although we had tee times confirmed in writing. I do not know where the error was made but it was unacceptable management and caused bad feeling. The starter was a lot more helpful than the pro shop in trying to sort things out, but we were horribly rushed over the opening holes.

Absolutely loved the course, very well constructed and challenging.

The course had some lovely holes. Very picturesque. Also didn’t have to hit driver off every tee. Plenty of different ways to the course. Condition of tee boxes and fairways I didn’t think was great. Probably because it’s well trodden. Greens were fast and tricky but in condition.

Like most courses it became easier as you understood it. Course needs more signage. Long walks between holes. A course map on the card would help

We played a dry course with fast greens. Too many 3 putts, but no fault of the course. It's not long, but long enough, with some tight drives requiring steely nerves. Three thoroughly enjoyable rounds. Will definitely return in the future.

Very challenging greens

The course is set up for competent golfers. There are several risk and reward holes which make it an interesting test. The condition was top class. Again, one minor point, I don't think the greens need to be any faster than they are. The stimp rating was 10.5 and some greens were borderline unplayable. Great course, really good fun

Golf course is a great layout. No two holes the same. Greens were in great condition, along with fairways. The bunkers were a bit scruffy around the edges and a few of the tee bats could do with flattening out as you end up stood on a mound. Shame the driving range is short and iron-only. New pro shop I’ve good, along with the accommodating staff, markers put out each day.

Only reason I gave a hard rating was that the greens were very quick due to recent maintenance however it was the same for all. Overall condition was fair to good in places but it is spring golf definitely would rebook again. Overall a great venue with value for money.

Over officious ‘course marshal’. Series of society 4 balls in front of us made play very slow - didn’t let us play through and were also just generally slow. I’m not sure the layout/design of the back 9 helps in this context - some great/cool challenges but certainly slows play with higher handicaps. I know weather hasn’t been very kind - too dry - but course around greens variable where it had been watered and not giving inconsistent ball bounce/roll. Generally yellow tees in poor condition. Overall enjoyed our round of golf though as part of our stay and meal.

The Golf Course is an excellent test of golfing skills according to your personal ability, it’s early in the season the greens had been worked on extensively and need time to develop, they were very fast but overall we had a great time.

Greens were in recovery from having been holed and tined and then sanded, which is normal as lots of courses this time of year in preparation for the summer. Although they were a tad bumpy in places they were in relatively good nick. Very slippery when putting down and with some very punitive contours. We were fortunate that it wasn’t too busy and managed to get round as a 3 ball in about 3:30!! I’ve put that the course difficulty was hard but this is more down to me not being very good!! 😁

Held up a bit by a 4B however not a big problem. Greens had recent maintenance and were a bit sandy however most courses have the same this time of year so acceptable. Some great holes

Some buggy tracks in need of repair. I would have preferred to be able to use buggy on the course as I had to do a lot of walking with currently a bad knee.

Nearly recovered from spring maintenance

It’s a nicely designed course, it’s definitely above average but very enjoyable for older players off the front tees and a decent challenge to better golfers off the back tees. Lovely undulating tree lined course for all to enjoy with a great 19th hole and a very good pro shop with many offers and helpful staff.

This is a lovely course with a good deal of very interesting holes, quite hilly in places but we throughly enjoyed playing the course.

No doubt in the summer it will be a beautiful course. It’s certainly very picturesque. However for our stay, the tee’s were in very poor condition and the greens were pretty slow. Decent half way house. All the staff were very welcoming and happy to help.

Lovely course, greens were perfect

The tee time 15.50 given on the first day meant it would have been dark for 18 holes. We played 9 holes in 2 hours 15 minutes behind 3 ladies who had no idea about pace of play/ etiquette. The second day tee time 12.50 was to be 40 minutes delayed because of the rain which meant a late finish, a considerable time after vacating our room so we didn't play . Came home.

Great layout and challenged all level of golfers

We’d had a lot of rain so were told by the starter all bunkers were out of play but the majority looked perfect just one or two were waterlogged. The starter whilst we appreciate he has a job to do spoilt the atmosphere and didn’t represent the rest of the friendly staff. The course is tricky with a couple of holes which are fitted in and we felt ‘tricked up’ in saying that it’s a decent course that’s not long but even with varying abilities and handicaps we felt it would have played better off the white tees. The slope rating just isn’t accurate we all lost shots yet it’s tougher than our home course. Play off your home playing handicap!

Lovely course,1st day was slow 5 +hours Tuesday and Wednesday took 4.30 hours, fairways good,greens all good,quick and I found them a real test. Tough course but very enjoyable Would definitely play there again.

Nice course, tough greens. Shame it was such a slow round. Too many people on the course. On average we had to wait a minimum of 5 mins on each T. On the Saturday it was a 6 and a half hour round!!

A very nice and interesting golf course. Some very challenging short holes, as well as some great long holes. Greens were a lovely pace, fast and true.

Greens looked great and ran true. Tee boxes need a bit of love. Shame the range is a bit limited for longer clubs. Found it a lovely looking course and enjoyed both my rounds there.

Great course but hard, with the back 9 the harder of the two 9’s. Some beautiful looking holes (5th). Bunkers could do with a litttle more sand in them. Quite a hilly course with a few long walks to the next tee. Would recommend a buggy which might explain the ridiculous price of £40 a round !!! The biggest disappointment was the condition of the tee boxes. Hardly a level one in the 18 holes and most were difficult to find some grass on them as well, and clearly suffering from a lot of use. Greens were VERY quick and like the tee boxes not a single flat one out there.

The course was in superb condition All 11 of us found it a hard course as we all play off of high handicaps ( 28 and above) We were very disappointed with the fact that we had supposedly reserved buggies for each day only to find that none were allocated to us Bearing in mind 3 of us are over 65 we were completely exhausted after one round Fortunately we reserved buggies for the next two days Wewere told on day one by the starter that we would be lucky to get round in 5 hours We got round in four hours 40 minutes On the second day we were accused of slow play which was very upsetting On the second day we went round in four hours twenty On the Sunday we were accused of slow play again which got us all very pissed off (sorry) The starter informed us that we should take no more than 15 minutes a hole which works out at four and a half hours Again on the Sunday as we were playing the Course Marshall came round and again accused us of slow play and yet again we got round in four hours twenty Each day we were accused of slow play yet we went round in under their allotted time We were constantly waiting for the people in front to play every shot and yet we were the ones accused of slow play I can honestly that we will NOT be going to this venue for golf ever again They need to sort this out At no point on all three days did we have space in front of us to play into so how were we slow

Too busy ……booked to many T Times we had 12 golfers queuing behind us waiting and golfers in front We had to play with other golfers not in our group spoils the game Never had that experience would not return

An excellent 2 rounds of golf. The course is designed to provide a balance of difficulty for a wide range of handicaps. Great views from the Tees on every hole. The whole course is well maintained, with good fairways and greens. The greens run fast and some of the pin positions were challenging, just what you need. Would recommend the course for all abilities and will look forward to playing again soon.

Good course with a mixture of holes to challenge everyone. Tee blocks were a little beaten up but the fairways and greens were good

Loved the course. Some serious ups and downs. Had buggies both days so not to taxing. Happy to lay here, just don't say. The hotel and food is very poor.

Tees especially the par threes’ were very poor over use

5 hours & 40 minutes terribly slow no Marshalls telling groups to get a move on the group in front of the group in front of us looking for balls all the time

It was nice to play a course where the driver stays in the bag more, as it was positional play mostly. It would have been nice to have panels/boards on each tee showing the hole layout as there were quite a few doglegs. greens very fast! but all in all very good.

The weather was great and the course set up well with fast greens. Glad I used a buggy as it was otherwise a very long walk between greens an the next tee.

Tough course. Not enough buggies for our party and the golf etiquette was too full on for our group. Also the stewards were rip off merchants.

Again we weren't told we had to pre book buggies in advance which would of been handy as none available

I had booked three buggies for both days and confirmed it about a month before we went, when we arrived NO BUGGIES! for either day. Some of our elderly party cannot play without buggies. Judy in the Pro shop was brilliant and with a lot of effort managed to get us two buggies which we made do with

They changed our tee time at Petersfield on tuesday from 12 noon to 1 pm without telling us so we were an hour early

Very slow round , had to come off course after 15 holes to be able to make evening meal.Pace of play ruined the golf , long waits on every hole. Didn’t bother playing second round as we didn’t want such another slow round

The golf course was in great condition. All the group enjoyed it immensely. The one gripe was that we had only 5 tee times booked in, when there should have been 6, both days. I complained in the pro- shop ( they blamed the office staff!!!) Luckily we were on the the tee early both days and they had to fit us in.

We were 20+ Handicapers, and found the course very challenging specially the greens

Greens are super fast but whole course do well looked after. Green staff also so friendly- thank you for making our stay really nice.

The greens were very hard no give whatsoever also quite a few divots on the fairways

Some very interesting holes but the course was very wet on the low lying holes. Lots of ponds and streams made it challenging so you had to be accurate. Two stiff climbs, one between holes and another playing. Starters were very friendly and helpful. Toilet access dreadful, required a ten minute journey - walk to halfway hut, buggy to and from loo.

What can we say, it was a stunning course, and we thoroughly enjoyed the challenging holes. Each hole was different, interesting and we loved it.

Nice course. Something for everyone. Cart paths obligatory and need some attention.

Very wet underfoot and in fact the course was closed on the second day (heavy rain over several hours). But the course is interesting and a good challenge, with some excellent views and interesting holes

I love this course. It was a bit rainy but still ok to play. It is an interesting course with the right level of challenge for mid and low handicappers. It had to close on Monday (our second day) due to the relentless winter rain in early December but we will receive a voucher to come and play again within the next year.

First day the greens were frozen amazed it wasn’t shut. The second day we had fog which made it interesting seeing you had no idea where the fairway or green were. But also dangerous as you were never really sure if the group in from were clear

I loved playing this course. It was a good challenge. As soon as I finished playing a round, I wanted to go out and play it all over again! The course was in great condition, especially given the very wet recent weather. ProShop staff were really helpful and flexibility in tee off times was appreciated. I will definitely be back to have another go at the course!

The course was very wet but open.the greens have just been done about a week ago or so and on our weekend they were awful. Not the greenkeepers fault t hough,there are machines now that do the same job but nowhere near as evasive to the greens.give these guys a better budget next year pls.

Course was beautiful. Lovely to play and hear the birds chirping. Really lovely.

The course was nowhere near the v high standard of our previous visits. Tee boxes and greens were disappointing both visually and in play. Seemed they had reduced their maintenance levels.

Greens were dreadful, apparently Your Golf Travel should have advised us that coring and sand lining had been done....but they didn't. Some of the hole had chucks of turf missing and had been filled with sand. Fairways not the best and bunkers have been left to become overgrown. Loads had grass in them.

An interesting course which plays tight with plenty of water and ditches to avoid. Very pretty and lovely views. Tee boxes need work, greens well maintained. Stiff walking the back nine in particular.

Round took 4 hours 45mins waited on most tees. Course was busy. Course quite hilly and long walks from greens to tees.

Nice Course, a bit quirky, lots of dog legs but interesting. Greens were good but if above the pin on a lot of them make sure you get it in the hole coming back or you will be 10-15 feet away.

The course is well kept, and much more undulating than the flyover video suggests. There are few pinch-points, and generally play proceeds at an acceptable pace. The halfway cabin is sparsely stocked, but you can order from the course itself using the app. The greens were excellent and there were very few areas of GUR. The course might benefit from a bench on some of the tees, and a toilet facility at on or two locations. There is a lot of water on the course, some of which is a bit stagnant and overgrown. Overall though the condition and presentation is excellent.

Course in good condition. Pace of play good. We walked but most use buggies as quite hilly in places. Pro Shop a bit disorganised. Had large society in on the Saturday. No range usage before our 2nd round (09.50 tee time) as ran out of balls! Hadn't picked them up earlier or night before.. Biggest annoyance was being paired with another 2 ball. I had booked for myself and my son to spend a couple of days together as our holiday was cancelled this week because of Air Traffic Control issues..very much a Father and Son trip. I dont live with my son,(he is 16) so our time is precious. We were told just before teeing off that we had two others joining us. Noone had asked if we were OK with that. I wouldn't have booked the trip if I had known before hand...very nice couple, so no problem with them, but I had booked a two ball for a specific reason. Was told it was what it was..with no prior warning. Just annoyed me at the time and slightly ruined the experience for me. Shan't be going back as result.

Pro shop had different tee time from our booking. Managed to het us out. Definitely dome people would need a buggy. Probably needs marshall when busy. 2 & 4 balls mixed. A 3 ball let a 2ball through then the 2 joined ip with another 2 in front so we all ended up behind a fourball. 2guys behind us hit their ball up behind us? Despite us pointing it out the first time. Nearly took a guy out on 17 when we and the 3ball were waiting to tee off!

To much volume of traffic, causing delays and serious damage to the cause and people not repairing potch marks our average round were 5.5hrs not what u want when u have others things planned within your schedule.

The course was in top condition, greens, bunkers and fairways. The pros were very helpful and the 19th hole (Sports Bar) a great place to chill!

Fairways need some TLC and T boxes. With the course letting anybody play especially people who haven’t played golf before causing slow play.

A superb course with several ‘interesting’ holes. Some of the tees were in poor condition but this is probably due to the constant flow of players.

Tee's and fairways were in very bad condition hardly any grass on them, greens were ok, paths were bordering dangerous pot holes every where, buggies over priced at £40 each and you were expected to stay on the paths and not venture on to the fairways.

A lovely, well laid out course. Some tricky holes which will test nearly all golfers. The greens are in good condition but the tee boxes are awful. Vast majority of holes it was impossible to get a flat lie and most of them look like they've been cultivated by farmers.

Clearly there has been no investment in the course. Bone dry everywhere with no grass in several areas. Too many bookings accepted. I do not expect a round to take 5 hours 15 mins with a buggy during the week. Great hotel, poor course.

The course was stunning, some parts look like Augusta. BUT, the greens are not forgiving. There wasnt enough pin positions that were achievable, the greens are so sloped that it isnt easy to play them. The ground was so hard that it wasnt easy to play off.

The course is not in a good condition it needs T L C . WE couldn't play the second day because it was well over booked.

We enjoyed the course although if you are elderly I suggest you have a buggy as it is very hilly in places . All the staff in the pro shop were very kind and helpful . The weather was great and we really enjoyed the golf .

Lovely course, challenging in that not every Par 4 is a driver, but takes some thought on the Tee about what club and positioning for 2nd shot. The course is not as tight as the promotional video would suggest, we had a mix of 10 players for the 2 days with handicaps from 8 to 28, and everyone enjoyed the round with no one complaining about difficulty. Starter was very friendly and put everyone at ease on the first tee with guidance tips and certainly no judgement. We will be back.

The course is excellent and feels like you’re playing at a professional standard, well kept greens and fantastic fairways and challenges! A small bit of slow play but that’s to be expected at a very popular course

Some of the tee boxes were stodgy in places but with all the rain we’ve had it was to be expected and the fairway bunkers were very hard and compacted.

Old Thorns is a very nice golf course. Well maintained and very quick greens. As it’s a popular golf destination, there’s a lot of players each day, a buggy will get you round a bit quicker but only if the players in front are decent. Average round 3 1/2 to 4 hours, mainly 4 balls. I’d come back as the facilities are good and the course is in excellent condition.

Our society have been coming to OT a few years and it never fails.. only negative this year were the Tee-boxes - They were poor, from over usage. Other than that it was excellent

If u walk the courses there should be no trouble with time if u buggy round u could be waiting But we was a four ball and if was great greens are super fast

Really enjoyed our two rounds. Very picturesque setting. Not too difficult apart from the very murky ponds. A few rabbit holes but I enjoyed seeing the rabbits!

The whole of the golfing side of our trip was excellent. It was quite a difficult course and some really great holes. The course, fairways, greens etc were in great condition, the tee boxes could do with improving as some of them were not flat which made it difficult to get a good stance. A minor point is that it could do with a course map on the score card or a plaque on each hole with the hole layout just to give you an idea of where you should be aiming. Overall we had a great 3 rounds.

Driving range is very limited and ran out of balls. 5 hour round. Course was in really good condition.

The course was in good order considering the amount of rain we’ve had this year, although the greens had been too dressed and were not running true because of this, also we found the ball didn’t stop so well but on the whole the course was very nice, the paths between the holes are lethal when they are wet. Our last round was stopped by the marshal due to puddling on the greens, then we weren’t informed that the course had reopened (as we were told we would be) but the first we knew was when people started heading back out to the first tee!! Almost as if they didn’t want us to resume our round as they had a larger group booking for the afternoon, no buggy or trolley refunds were allowed much to the disgust of some of our group!

Brilliant golf course fantastic greens incredible layout and overall 10/10 experience.

The course is a great challenge and well laid out with some great holes the 15 is a bit of a joke hole but fun We all enjoyed our time at Old Thorns as we did last year we will be back soon

Spectacular course loved it

We had an exceptional amount of rain the 3 days we played, but in spite if this the greens were still pretty quick. We were impressed with the course and enjoyed the variety of different holes. I enjoyed the course and would play it again, but I would not be keen to stay at the resort hotel again.

Course was in good condition for time of year. Clearly heavily used as some of Tees were very beaten up. Greens rolling well considering maintenance had been done in previous couple weeks by looks of recovery. Lots of animal damage on some Fairways which is a shame but can't be helped. One complaint would be some of the Mats where nearly impossible to get a Tee into and when on a par 5 (2nd hole) I would imagine every player would want to tee it up. Overall, lovely couple of days spent with the family and will definitely return again.

the weather was awful which lowered the condition of the course and the greens. But in better weather i could see the course being very nice to play.

A BEAUTIFUL COURSE. FANTASTIC VIEWS FROM NEARLY EVERY TEE, ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE FROM BEGINNING TO END. WILL DEFINATELY RECOMMEND.

5th visit and the course is great fun. Obviously it's a busy one so expect a longer round but the starter and staff are great. Friendly and informative. The course is a real challenge with some excellent holes. Favourites being 3rd, 5th and 17th. Areas to improve are pace of play and conditions of the tee boxes. To be fair the greens were great and very quick.

Brilliant course. Every hole was interesting and quite a challenging course if you are a high handicapper. Ground conditions were great.

Challenging and enjoyable.

The course at Old Thorns was in great condition and we had three very enjoyable rounds. I’d like to say that I had got to grips with it by day three, but that certainly wasn’t the case. The only criticisms are that the 15th is a very strange hole and £40 for a buggy, especially one without GPS, is excessive.

Very good course. Carried the first day and this was a challenge! Better with a buggy. A couple of cardiac hills. Despite the dry conditions the course held up well. Excellent greens.

A hard course and unfortunately very dry.. will be back later in the in the year after we have some rain… All very good though.

Great course. Only comment would be the lack of options at the halfway house (relative to the amount of food / drink available across the whole resort)

Beyond the management’s control, the golf course was burnt dry and in many areas totally unplayable due to the current heatwave.

Loved playing the course, not for big hitters though had to think your way round the course. Fairways were very dry because of the weather. Greens were superb and you could hit a full shot and would stop on the green quite quickly they rolled really well and are very testing with all the undulation. Would love to come back and see how the course plays when the fairways have grown back. Can be quite a slow round at times.

A really interesting course with lots of different holes and lots to think about it. We played it in the hottest and driest conditions which didn't do it justice. Will definitely be going back for another go.

It was unfortunate that we chose probably the hottest day of the year. We were behind a group of men, 2 in buggies and 2 walking. Judging by the speed and the amount of shots it took them to get from tee to Green I would say they were not regular golfers, this is often the case with golf breaks. They were unaware that we were waiting behind them and waiting on every hole.The round took over Five and a half hours. !! It would have been a good idea to have had a course Marshall out.

To score well needs some good tee shots, but the reward is an interesting course with variety on every hole. Despite baked and brown fairways because of a heatwave, the greens were very good indeed. Buggy paths were narrow and pot-holed, and need some repair. Played this course six times now and have enjoyed every round.

Pretty course with tricky greens. also some quite small. We had a problem with lack of buggies on first day and had to wait an hour after our tee time but they did not charge us in view of the delay. No problem on 2nd or 3rd days. would definitely go back. lovely setting.

The golf course was in very good condition, the fairways were starting to brown off a bit but we were experiencing a heatwave so understandable With only 80 members so the, starter mentioned, this is a resort aimed directly at golf breaks and they do what it says on the tin very well

Very busy and slow. Most 2 balls had to play as a 4 and rounds were over 5 hours each day.

Would of been nice different coloured flags to let you know front, middle or back on the greens. The greens were fast and made putting down the slopes tricky.

This a very interesting course that provides a very good challenge for mid handicap golfers. The greens were particularly tough but very good. We had one round that was played at a very good pace and one very slow round. We enjoyed the golf and will definitely be back to play again

One of the most attractive courses I've played with amazing views from the elevated tees. Quite tricky in places, not helped by the lack of any maps showing the layout of the holes. Would definitely return to play this course again.

Suffered on the greens/

Course needs a lot of rain to revitalise it! It's very scenic but hilly so a power trolley or buggy strongly recommended. Quite a few long walks between holes.

The course is good with some interesting holes in terms of layout and challenge. The greens were quick with subtle slopes and run offs. The course is quite hilly so a buggy may be required, (£40.00) ! If playing there for the first time there is no course plan on the score card or plans on each tee, on some holes this meant teeing off hopefully in the right direction. There are no toilets on the course or half-way house.

The course is an excellent layout. The views are amazing in places. The greens were very quick during our visit in late April 2022, I would say slightly too quick for some handicap golfers. The pace of play on our second day was appalling! The starter let people off the 1st tee as soon as the previous group were out of sight, this caused congestion after 5 holes which continued throughout the rest of the round. It took us 5 1/2 hours to complete. Apparently some beginners were playing the course too. This course is definitely not for beginners. Old Thorns needs to state that and limit players to those with handicaps less than 20.

This is a good resort for a golf break. The course is well presented, in great condition and a good test of golf

The course was in good condition considering the weather, but the greens had been spiked and sanded so were not putting as well as I would have hoped(very fast indeed).Also when booking the break we agreed four tee times, but when we got there we were only down for two, the staff in the golf shop managed to fit us in fortunately.

Difficult course in good condition for time of year. Beautiful views and scenery throughout. Speed of play was adequate although it was noticeable that a number of groups on the course were beginners who were not well versed in course etiquette. Overall though very enjoyable.

Unfortunately the greens had just been hollow tined so were very bumpy, and there was work going on to remove a tree on the first hole so we were unable to play it on the second day and had to use a temporary green on the first day. But the course is beautifully laid out, a fair challenge and we would return again.

Golf course is amazing, hilly in places, you will need strong legs unless you hire a buggy but get your camera ready the views on some holes are amazing. Hole 6 is our favourite, elevated tee. Whenever we finish a round we always want to go straight back out and do it again. We will definitely be back.

Slow at times with groups in front no awareness of etiquette. Generally OK. Greens had just been hollow tyned so we’re unplayable.

Course was very wet after all the rain but was ok, Sunday pm was a 5 hour round but the 2 am starts were very good.

In winter conditions its hard to find any faults. Our group of six all loved the course. The course itself is maintained to a very high standard. The fairways and greens were excellent and the pace of play was good. the practice facilities are good and very well maintained. Probably one of the best overall venues me and my friends have visited over the past 25 years. Up there with the Belfry although no where near as busy. Would highly recommend. For high handicap players would be a test. I would also state that there are some steep hills. We all carried and were blowing several times around. Fantastic stay and cant wait to go again.

Some of the views were as spectacular as the constant gun fire on Saturday- that said it didn’t bother me. Lovely variety of holes. Like most courses this time of yr it was heavy going but playable. Will try and play it in the summer when, I imagine, it will look stunning!

Course was challenging and enjoyable overall very good condition taking into account the heavy rain we suffered over the few days, I gave the greens 3 out of 5 due to being top dressed which I appreciate is a necessity but pre knowledge would have been nice. Many Thanks

Be nice to know the greens had been hollow tined. Heavy dressing of sand and tine holes making putting a lottery at best! Fairways and tees generally in good condition most bunkers were sodden with compacted sand.

This is not an easy course if you are wayward with your drives. There are a lot of trees so staying on the fairway makes the course a lot easier (doesn't it always!). We had a lot of rain overnight and the course held up well in most places so couldn't complain. Greens were quick and good. The only downside is that the course was fully booked and we had a 2:30 tee time which in Oct meant a 4hr round we finished 18 holes literally just in time, the group behind wasn't so lucky!

Probably the most difficult greens I've played. many holes on the green in regulation to 3 putt and sometimes 4. Always felt when I got a par or a rare birdie I was lucky.

Hard for beginners could of done with a map

Great golf at Old Thorns, the greens were true and quick. A few of the tee boxes were uneven and pretty damaged, but fairways and greens were good. Played two rounds and both were over 4.5 hours, but wasn't painful.

Played this course half a dozen times and always throws up a challenge for all.most of course fairly flat but beware some holes are very steep.beautiful condition.my only complaint was in my opinion they have made a mess of 9 th hole probably to protect the new appartments

The course was in good condition, and is carefully maintained. It was fairly busy but play was not too slow. The pro shop staff were friendly and helpful.

A very good course. Challenging, with lots of water and trees. Some spectacular views from elevated tees. Greens were immaculate. Our round on day 1 was incredibly slow. It took 4.5 hours to play 16 holes (we didn't finish). Buggies widely in use, but limited to paths so lost of (slow) walking from buggy to ball and back again. Day 2 was better and there was a course Marshall on duty, unlike day 1).

It is a great course with some really interesting and challenging holes - pack some extra balls though as there is water and lots of shrubs! It was very well maintained and it appears we were lucky as both our rounds were quite quick (11.30 Sunday & 08.00 Monday) which was great. Staff in the shop and on course were really helpful and friendly. We will definitely be going back!

Greens are fast but very true...fairways cross mowed pleasing on the eye..5th tee shot extremely difficult for higher handicap.....can't wait to get back for move

Bunkers are punishing but the course and greens fabulous

Condition of course very good apart from 1st bunker on 1st hole which should have bee GUR. Super views and good variety of holes.

Very good condition except for tees

Lovely course, greens and fairways in fantastic condition! First day good pace, second day very slow. Considering this is a reciprocal course of ours, (didn't know at time of booking) no concession given in pro shop by management despite our pleas as booking made via YGT. Not even given a discount on buggy, which we were charged an extortionate £40 for!!!!! (Ellie and young lad on course who plays at Waterlooville GC were great though)

Great course and a good test but very busy and overbooked, lots of groups had the same tee times, nearly 3 hours for 8 holes on our last day which isn’t much fun

The course was very well presented, despite difficult weather conditions. Enjoyed the variety of holes, and views over surrounding countryside. Unfortunately the weather was horrendous so from 3 rounds booked, we were only able to play 26 holes in total.

Loved the Golf Course, challenging. Absolutely beautiful scenery.

A great (tough) course with many picturesque holes. The only downside is the chronic slow play. Took 5.5hrs on the Sunday afternoon and others were taking over 6hrs. Just too many social players on a course that is too difficult for most maybe? Something needs to be done.

Great two days golfing. The course was a little hard for some of our golfers. Long walk if you walked. Suggest a buggy. Overall great!

Beautiful course! One of my favourite courses in the country! Very challenging but that’s what makes it such a great course! Every hole is interesting and unique. Love it, can’t wait to play it again.

Was told greens where ironed twice, pins in very positions, even members where 3 or 4 putting, due to pro am week before

Not enough buggies to go around, the greens were superb with the exception of one or two that were being repaired. The rough was manageable for those unfortunate to find it and the fairways cut well.

Fantastic course which is in great condition

On arrival at the pro shop Jason and his team welcomed us with a cheerful good morning and was very help over our stay with our requests. Although it was a damp weekend the course was in excellent condition and play kept moving.

Challenging but beautiful as ever

It’s very hard to gauge due to a horrendous week of rain before and during our rounds.

Really enjoyed the course. It was quite challenging and have to hit straight! I think the condition of the course was good, considering the recent bad weather. Pedantic people might moan that it was too muddy, but what can you do when the weather is bad. All round, we all really loved the course with some great signature holes.

Very disappointed to find the course was closed when we arrived Our tee time was in the afternoon so someone could have let us know before we drove 2 hours to the venue We played the following day and we were given a 4 ball voucher Not sure if we will drive 2 hours again to play a single round

The course is nowhere near as good condition as it used to be. The fairways have been churned up . The greens are still fantastic but too many people playing the course is ruining it. The buggy’s were over priced at £40 per round and at our age you could not walk the course without taking a defibrillator.£99.00 for golf dinner bed and breakfast good then ruined by £40 buggy.

Fairways were shocking and in some cases you were playing off just mud. Admittedly the weather was wet the week before we played but never seem fairways so bare and poor. We adopted our own pick and place but in some cases struggles to find any grass to play off! For the price charged and the reputation that Old Thorns has I was looking forward to playing it but left very disappointed. Definitely won’t go back in the winter but can imagine it can be lovely in the summer.

A great layout with some wonderful elevated tees, greens were excellent but some of the fairways were patchy Overall we had 2 very enjoyable rounds of golf during our stay and would recommend the course to anyone wanting to play in this part of the country

Tough conditions as it rained heavily the first day and blew a gale on the second. Some long holes and lots of trees ditches and water. a tough test.

Condition of the course was not that good many bare areas on the fairways and around the greens.Preferred lies were in place but didn't help at times. Our group found the greens to be very difficult.

The course was quite mucky which is to be expected this time of the year, there was no proper cleaning equipment working for shoes and trolleys, but the staff in pro shop and around the course were excellent very friendly and helpful

Great views and considering the rain we had previously Course was in good Nick. We all enjoyed the 2 rounds we played with no hold ups.

Ridiculously slow due to the management money grabbing policy. Waited every single tee and approach shot. Numerous times on pars 3s there were 3 groups waiting. Halfway hut was a joke we had a kettle boiled for us and had to make our own tea two chocolate bar to choose from and no hot food. Complex is set in hundreds of acres but the range is so short you can only hit short irons. There was a net but impossible to put s tee peg in. Couldn’t face another four and a half hour round so we left early. Never again

The course was extremely wet on Friday but remarkably improved by Saturday. The game on Saturday was very slow taking over 5 hours which is unacceptable. Although course rangers were around they were not very effective at speeding up the pace of play!!

The fairways were burnt and we were not told on the first day that winter rules applied due to the condition of the fairways. There was no Marshall on the 2nd day, which meant that play was so slow we ended up walking off after 9 holes!

The greens had just been hollow tuned when we played on Sunday, so were very bumpy, when we played again on Tuesday they were Verti Cutting and seeding them, so were again bumpy I don’t think places should be taking bookings when they are working on the greens

Unfortunately, the weather was wet for both rounds but l was very disappointed in the condition of some fairways, which were poor

We had bad weather which slowed the round. Some areas were in need of improved green keeping in my view. Bare patches on fairways and greens all could have been attended to under GUR

A lot more work is required on the greens and fairways in the front 9 holes. Played a month ago and huge improvement on the back 9 holes. Really important that the course is in good shape for May as this is a popular month for short term breaks.

Enjoyable round on middle class course. Greens struggling.

Buggies on path only which slowed things down considerabley, if you can walk. Course appears overplayed and lacking in a little TLC. Played in late march so green were tined & bumpy. Gets slow between 9 & 10 due to 2 par 3's as the 9th (should be a par 5) is under construction. There are some fantastic holes and the course makes you think. We will return

The course was well managed and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. It was just a shame a few of the holes were on winter greens but we were advised this before we went and appreciated the offers we had from hotel. It was still a really nice course and very picturesque.

Course overplayed and in very poor condition, 4 temporary greens
