The Pearl Valley Golf Club was opened in 2003 by two of the biggest names in golf, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. The golf course is one of very few signature golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and in 2005, it was named the best golf course of the year by worldwide magazine Golf Digest.

The course is no stranger to the big stage, having previously played host to the South African Open on three consecutive years from 2007 - 2009. If you fancy playing a previous European Tour host course, then Pearl Valley should definitely be on the list on your South Africa golf holiday.

Pearl Valley Golf Club

Every hole around Pearl Valley is set against the backdrop of the mountains of the Western Cape, and Nicklaus’ trademark of great, shallow expanses of sand is evident throughout the design. The Golden Bear opened the course with an inaugural match with Gary Player in 2003, and since then, Pearl Valley has garnered many international awards.

Huge water hazards, scrubland and tall wild grass are among the dangers that lurk at the fringes of the fairways, and with the trademark of Jack Nicklaus stamped all over the course, Pearl Valley is a truly spectacular part of any golf holiday in South Africa.

What YGT staff say about the Pearl Valley Golf Club

"It really is a fantastic course with stunning views and many memorable holes. The stand out holes for me were the 4th, a par 5 that has a creek twisting and turning throughout. You have to place your drive up the right hand side, a second across to the lay up area on the left with water in play again and then a third shot over a green protected by the creek at the front and bunkers behind. A fantastic looking hole that's equally challenging."
