Golf Courses at Sandford Springs Golf Club
Sandford Springs Golf Club
Sandford Springs Golf Club makes great use of its enviable location to offer a trio of superb 9-hole courses – The Park, The Wood and The Lakes – all are distinctly different and provide great enjoyment.
Located between Basingstoke and Newbury, the course was laid out by Hawtree & Son (founder members of the British Institute of Golf Course Architects). The original 18-hole were officially opened by Sir Nick Faldo and Bernard Gallagher OBE in 1989, the final 9-holes were finished in the summer of 1991.
The signature hole is the 9th hole on The Park Course – a short downhill par-4 which requires an accurate long iron from the tee followed by a good approach to a putting surface which is guarded by two lakes. However it is possible for the long hitters to carry the 270 yards over water!
The Woods Course
With its mature trees creating a naturally scuplted challenge, accuracy is required to negotiate the avenues of The Woods, arguably the most difficult of Sandford Springs' three nines.
The Park Course
Strategy, placement and ball-striking are all examined fully on the Park, which, upon climbing to its highest levels, is commonly buffeted by strong prevailing winds that help make it more of a links test.
The Lakes Course
The water is everywhere at The Lakes! The opening four holes provide a tough start to any round - be it your initial induction or when commencing the back nine.
Accommodation at Sandford Springs Golf Club

Rooms are separate from the bar and restaurant. It’s a very dark walk across the car park to get there. There is a restaurant in the hotel but any golfers have to eat in the large function room off the bar which totally lacks atmosphere. We were a group of 4 and put on a table too big so we couldn’t talk easily across the table. If we’d known we weren’t eating in a proper restaurant we would have stayed. We had to pick food on arrival (ridiculous when we were only 2 couples). Choice limited.
8 / 10
The bedroom are spacious and clean. Bed comfortable. Bathroom shower a little tired. Easy to check in and out. Breakfast room was full so we had to wait to be seated as hotel was full. Food choice ample and tasty.
8 / 10
It was fine
10 / 10

10 / 10
I was impressed by the size and comfort of our accommodation. Every member of our group (31) felt the same, and would consider returning in the future
8 / 10
Hotel was super but evening meal was disappointing. Limited menu and Mir geared towards men!!
10 / 10
We were extremely well looked after by the staff at the resort. Rooms were a good size and nicely decorated. main meal in the evening was amazing, with beautifully presented food and a good choice of staters, mains and deserts. Breakfast was a little lacking in choice, most of the party would have liked to see more prepared fresh fruit options .. may be not so much of an issue for a party of men. breakfast room was busy at certain times, but staff were helpful in reserving a table for us when we had an early tee time.
10 / 10
The rooms were very comfortable and clean
Had tea and coffee making facilities and also had shampoo and body wash in the shower

The twin rooms were excellent. Everything was what you needed All the toiletries you needed were supplied. The shower was very good The towels were of the best quality. The bed was very comfortable and there was a great supply of pillows. Tea
And Coffee was plenty and you are even supplied with slippers
8 / 10
Hotel was very comfortable but had No bar. Breakfast very good.
Bar Staff in golf club very helpful and made the weekend perfect for us. Meal was in the Golf Club restaurant not the hotel, was very good food with selection on limited menu, and the supplement of only £35 per person for the meal was in the small print and the agent at Your Golf Travel did not make this clear before booking.

We travelled as a group of 16 ladies, most of the ladies had not been to Sandford Springs before. The rooms were large and comfortable and staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The food was very good too.
10 / 10
We had a amazing time the location the hotel. The food was amazing on all 3days from start to finish.we have been doing this now for 20 years and all our guests have said this is the best stay we have ever been.Credit to all staff members they made us feel very welcome.

Fantastic rooms, good food, nothing was a problem

Pleasant stay
10 / 10
Spacious room, comfortable bed, excellent ensuite and spotlessly clean + fresh. Excellent service, good food and well run by a dedicated team.
To be honest - Faultless
8 / 10
Great venue representing good value for money. Excellent dinner. Breakfast was disappointing and not well cooked/presented. breakfast service slow and haphazard - wondered if they were short of staff! No handsoap in room

Very enjoyable with friendly and accommodating staff.
Will return when we can.

Couldn’t have been a better two day trip.
8 / 10
The accommodation was great. We had standard rooms which were a good size, clean and had a very comfy bed.
10 / 10
The room was very spacious and clean. Huge bed, with a great mattress. TV had lots of channel choice.
8 / 10
Wonderful hotel with great staff, very clean and catered for our needs as a society. Food was great drinks priced correctly
The only negative i would say is that the bar could of stayed open a bit longer
8 / 10
Accommodation is clean and modern with reasonably comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and food was excellent. Prices are a little in the high side but not surprising as a captive audience.
10 / 10
Very well presented and clean room that was spacious enough for our needs. Restaurant(s) are laid out well with very good selection both in the evening and mornings. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
8 / 10
While we were there the hotel breakfast room was closed for some sort of refurbishment/works. Breakfast was therefore in the golf clubhouse. Whilst this in itself was no problem it was just a bit of a pain returning to the hotel to get your golf stuff before the round. Comfortable large rooms though and would say that the rooms are up amongst the best of the golf ‘resort’ hotels we’ve stayed in.
10 / 10
An excellent location with stunning scenery the 3 9 hole courses certainly present a challenge, even for the lower handicappers. All of the courses have an element of water an ditches with some quirky par 3's. The hotel is very comfortable & clean, the restaurant, bar & clubhouse are also very good. Food superb. Only one minor criticism is that the menu was the same for both days, however there was plenty of choice.
8 / 10
Great welcoming hotel, visitor friendly. Would have been better with a few facilities like - gym. Otherwise great value for money!
8 / 10
Hotel clean food great
8 / 10
Very pleasant stay. Quiet at night. Breakfast was good.
10 / 10
All the staff were lovely and friendly. The room was big and comfortable and the food in the restaurant was great.
10 / 10
Thank you your golf travel.
Everything went smoothly
10 / 10
A good hotel. Adam from the pro shop welcomed us well and explained our package. He also checked in on us day two. Jane in the bar and restaurant was an absolute superstar. Please would you pass this on to the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she is a credit to the organisation. I own a customer experience business and she would have scored top marks, and more. Really enjoyed the stay.
8 / 10
Very much enjoyed our stay. Very clean , lovely room and friendly staff. Our only criticism is the limited choice of food on the evening meal package. I struggled with the choice on offer first night.

10 / 10
The room was clean, tidy and comfortable with tea, coffee and water provided. The staff were professional and pro active. Breakfast was amazing everything you need to start your day.

Excellent rooms, staff very friendly, food very good, bar prices a bit high
8 / 10
Nice Hotel - comfortable and a good breakfast.
10 / 10
My first ever experience of a golf trip and was very happy with the results. Staff are friendly. Food was lovely views are amazing could quite happily go back again
8 / 10
Rooms excellent , having evening meal in Golf Club not so good. Food selection not good and not enough Staff to cater for 3 societies at the same time being served by one staff at some times and that person was also running the Bar
8 / 10
Pleasant hotel, nice clean comfortable rooms.
10 / 10
Rooms were comfortable and food was brilliant
6 / 10
The rooms are spacious and modern.
The staff are uninterested and everything felt like a challenge.
Breakfast was really nice, dinner was poor in comparison.
10 / 10
modern clean comfortable breakfast and service excellent. would highly recommend
10 / 10
Third trip to Sandford Springs and each time the venue and staff have been excellent.
6 / 10
Rooms were comfortable. Rather soulless decor. Seemed slightly odd not to be eating dinner in a dedicated dining room as you are in the same room as the bar. Tv on and a bit pub ish ! Why not be able to eat where you had breakfast ? Nicer room with a kitchen ….?
8 / 10
We had a very good stay at the hotel, the food was good and staff very helpful.
10 / 10
Very welcoming staff and food and service was excellent. We will be back if only to try and find our lost golf balls
6 / 10
Generally Good but air conditioning failed on both nights I stayed there including the day the uk recorded the highest temperature ever! I spent a miserable sleepless night and there wasn’t even a fan in my room on the first night. I was particularly disappointed that the hotel did not offer any compensation for my very bad experience - such as a discount off my next stay.
8 / 10
We have been to Sandford Springs on several occasions and find it to be a very well run venue.
A fridge in the rooms would be useful.
10 / 10
We stayed at Sandford Springs in 2019 and knew how good it is but this time the food in particular was even better. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed although a few of our party had a room with broken Air Con which considering we stayed during the two hottest days of the year was disappointing.
8 / 10
The hotel accommodation was clean & comfortable although the air conditioning one of the rooms our party occupied was not working. Unfortunate on the hottest days ever. Staff friendly and helpful. Whilst breakfasts were good the evening meal was the biggest disappointment- choices were not very inspiring or tasty. Overall we enjoyed our visit but the evening meal menu needs reviewing.
8 / 10
Overall the location of the Hotel and the golf facilities are excellent. The rooms are of a good standard. Nothing bad to report.
We ate in the clubhouse. We understand the catering staff were limited and although the food was acceptable it was not as good as in previous years.
For those that had the beef-burger we all felt it was a big chunk of meat with very little flavour. It was not good. This is our only complaint however and not bad enough to make a fuss.
6 / 10
The rooms were very spacious and clean. Only breakfast was available in the hotel, lunch and evening meals were served in the golf club bar which was away from the hotel. Menu choices were limited (with the same menu on alternate days), food was overall quite disappointing.
10 / 10
Second stay here and it was as good as the first. Staff amazing and buffet breakfast excellent.
8 / 10
We enjoyed our short stay at Sandford springs. The course was in excellent condition and played well. The staff were efficient and polite. We did think the facilities were a little basic.
Having asked for and supposedly being given an upgraded room, we were surprised that the "superior room" was one specifically designed for disabled people.
6 / 10
Rooms ok however bar was very expensive and food was poor
10 / 10
Well thought out venue ideal for a society or group break
8 / 10
Generally well received.Courses and Accomodation good Only disappointing issue was with the Food Choice for dinner . Same menu for both Nights. There was not either a chicken, Pork or Fish choice.
10 / 10
good trip , good company ,good hotel, weather could have been better
8 / 10
We had a very pleasant stay at the hotel, the bedroom and bathroom were both large and the breakfast was substantial. The staff were friendly although I would say the younger girls in the bar area should smile more..
10 / 10
Everything was high quality. Rooms spacious clean and great bathroom. Bars and Restaurants new clean and well managed staffed.
For the price we paid i dont think you can beat the setup.
10 / 10
Great stay.
Everyone was polite and very helpful.
Rooms were a1.
8 / 10
Comfortable and well appointed rooms
8 / 10
Standard rooms are a very high standard. Food is good golfers fare. The carpet in the upstairs restaurant is a disgrace and needs replacing. Proshop staff are very welcoming and knowledgable.
10 / 10
Very comfortable, well equipped room. Excellent dinner & breakfast. Friendly & helpful staff
10 / 10
10 / 10
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, very easy low-hassle experience.
8 / 10
Comfortable rooms well equiped.Rooms not serviced on a daily basis. The restaurant food was pub standard and nothing more. However they were clearly struggling with a lack of staff resulting in delays with service particularly on day 2 when there was also a wedding party. This is not a reflection on the staff who were very friendly and did all they could.
8 / 10
Very nice rooms and a good breakfast. Comfortable bar and nice clubhouse with views of the course. Staff were brilliant.
Evening meals from the set menus was ok.
8 / 10
good quality hotel , Reception staff very helpful and the breakfast was very good

An excellent weekend with first class service
8 / 10
We had a great stay.very well organised. The Woods course was very hilly so would recommend a buggy it cost us £35. Dinner was very good but breakfast was less organised, slow at replenishing the food & drinks.
8 / 10
Well appointed hotel. Rooms were spotless and very comfortable. Staff were friendly helpful and efficient. The only downside being that meals including breakfast were taken in the golf clubhouse about two hundred yards away. Courtesy umbrellas were provided for inclement weather.
8 / 10
10 / 10
Very clean and spacious serviced daily
10 / 10
Everything was perfect The hotel and catering were outstanding, if I had one critisism it was that staying in a golf resort I was unable to watch the first day of the Tour final, football was on in the bar and there was no Sky in the bedroom.
8 / 10
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, largely because of the staff who were professional, efficient and very friendly. The accommodation was exceptional.
10 / 10
Nice cosy small hotel, clean. That’s all I need
6 / 10
Nice rooms though beds were too small. Clean and comfy room though. Simple bar and restaurant areas but could be more comfortable seating. Nice views over the course. For the money no complaints.
8 / 10
Accommodation was excellent.
The food was acceptable but not great.
8 / 10
The hotel is only 400metres from the club house Our room was modern, comfortable and clean. Our meals/bar were at the club house so we only used our room and none of the other hotel facilities.

Lovely hotel but very limited facilities. very comfortable and clean at a great price.

Fantastic break in these difficult times, could not fault any part of a stay.
10 / 10
A very nice easy venue with 27 holes. great value for money

8 / 10
Great location, comfortable and stylish room, helpful staff. The restaurant was a little austere and we only had the breakfast which was good.
10 / 10
Great venue, well looked after, the long wet season meant the courses were a bit boggy in places but playable, greens had not suffered.
Overall not a bad weekend at all.
8 / 10
Three excellent 9 holes courses. Hotel comfortable and food a good standard.
Another great trip arranged by YGT
8 / 10
Excellent service, superb staff and very good rooms, the only negative point being the width of the single beds (narrow for most reasonably built men). The breakfast was very good and the evening meals, whilst very well presented, were very limited in choice but overall, my group was very impressed.
10 / 10
Top quality hotel with large and quiet rooms. The food was also to a high standard.
8 / 10
Clean large comfortable rooms. Hotel would have scored five stars if after golf facilities were more available. Only one small snooker/pool table to entertain our group throughout the evenings.
Swimming pool would be a great investment for this venue.
10 / 10
Spacious room with a large bath/shower room.
Dinner at the clubhouse was excellent and the prices of drinks were reasonable
10 / 10
Rooms excellent. Clean and spacious. Staff friendly. Food good. No complaints.
10 / 10
The hotel upgraded me and my room mate to a suite - always the best way to treat the organiser! This was luxurious, and feedback from others in our group was also very good. Very pleasant bar area with good value food.
10 / 10
We had a very enjoyable stay. the staff and facilities were 1st rate. Drink and snack prices were slightly punchy but considering the area acceptable.
10 / 10
Everything was perfect. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food great.
8 / 10
Rooms, service and quality of food excellent. However I didn't pick up in the small print only a 2 course meal. Had to have starter & main and pay extra £5 for a dessert. Also the restaurant was at the clubhouse. Fine if a dry evening, not so good if cold and raining.
10 / 10
The hotel is ideal for a short golf break. The rooms were large, well appointed and very smart - no bath but the shower was excellent. There is a small gym but no other facilities. The evening meal was super and extremely well organised with no one having to wait very long for their meal and the quality of the food and snacks was excellent.
10 / 10
Hotel, bedrooms, ensuite, staff dinner, breakfast all great. This was out second visit would go again.
4 / 10
the Bar was pretty poor and the food was pretty terrible, but the staff were nice and the hotel was clean and pleasant. the breakfast was good.
8 / 10
Hotel and staff were very pleasant food good ,
10 / 10
This was an absolute pleasure, beautifully appointed rooms, clean& tidy with a fantastic bed and shower room. We all slept very well here.
The food was great, service good and value for money.
Drinks were reasonably priced too.
The sympathetic new architecture perfectly compliments the existing old clock house building creating a great vista. The overall feeling was very relaxing.
10 / 10
This was my fourth visit to Sandford Springs, this time with a party of forty. I was very nervous of keeping that many happy. Not a problem. No one could fine ant faults to speak of. Food, rooms, staff were all rated very highly. The courses,3x9holes, were also highly recommended by both low and high handicappers.
One gentlemen said he go as far as to say it was his most enjoyable holiday ever!
8 / 10
Apart from the weather on the final day,
which is obviously out of everyone's control, our trip to Sanford
Springs was a great success.
Our group consists of a wide range of
handicaps, from single figures to mid twenties, but all were catered for with
three 9 hole loops, each with different characteristics. The condition of all
three courses was excellent, with undulating fairways and greens to test any
level of golfer.
The staff throughout the complex were very welcoming and helpful, providing
polite and quality service during our stay.
The only thing lacking was thelack of additional leisure facilities, such
as swimming pool, sauna and in the bar area, pool/snooker table etc...
The hotel was exceptionally clean and the rooms were very well equipped. The
food was excellent too, with a varied choice for both the evening meal and the
breakfast.
Overall the consensus of the whole group was that this is a great venue and one
we would all happily return to at some point in the future.
Finally, I would like to thank you and YGT for the professional approach to
helping people like myself in organising golf trips for groups of varying
abilities and making the experience as easy as possible.
