Tidewater Golf Club

With 80-plus courses dotted along the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach can feel like a golfer's pick 'n' mix. Still, Tidewater keeps popping up in the same conversation as the very best. Plenty of players rank it as Myrtle Beach's number one, while Golf Digest has previously tipped it among South Carolina's finest too. Not bad, right.

The big draw is the setting. Tidewater sits on a peninsula between the Intracoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove Inlet, so water and marsh views feature throughout the round. Ken Tomlinson's routing makes the most of it, threading holes through live oaks and Spanish moss, with the wind often having its say on the back nine.

From the back tees it stretches to over 7,000 yards, but it's more about position and nerve than raw power. Expect a few carries you'll need to commit to, plus slick, tiered greens where leaving yourself the wrong level can quickly turn a par chance into a three-putt. The wind can easily have you second-guessing club choice, especially when you're exposed along the marsh.

If you're building a Myrtle Beach itinerary and want one course that feels a bit more Lowcountry than resort, Tidewater deserves a slot. Include Tidewater on your next golf holiday and we'll help you match it with the right stay and tee times.

Who is this for?
Golfers planning a Myrtle Beach trip who want one 'must-play' round with proper scenery and a bit of bite.

Who is it best for?

Tidewater Golf Club

Since its inauguration in 1990, Tidewater has grown in stature, and is now so well bedded in that it is always in immaculate condition. While the layout and its surroundings are truly beautiful, the key to Tidewater's success is that it offers a stern test whilst always remaining fair; there are certainly hazards out there, not least the expanses of water and sand, but good ball striking will always be rewarded.

Set alongside the Intracoastal Waterway, Tidewater has been dubbed ‘the Pebble Beach of the east coast', and is an outstanding golfing option for your next pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach.

Did not get to play as there was a competition on there that day despite us having a 10am tee time confirmed by your golf travel. Thankfully we did get to play the course on a different day as the management were very helpful in rearranging that for us. We had our Saturday ruined though as there was no golf for us.

A great course and a great location, beautiful scenery and a challenging test. Well looked after here.

Absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. It’s the second time here and it is the number 1 course for me in Myrtle beach. Can’t wait to go back.
