Golf in the Netherlands owes much to the genius of Harry S. Colt, whose creations in the north and along the coast remain firmly among the elite of Dutch golf.

Although it was established in 1894 and is the second oldest in the country, Utrecht Golf Club's reputation is as formidable as ever, largely due to the persisting quality of Colt's design.

Utrecht Golf Club

The golf course at Utrecht is a classic heathland layout, stylistically similar to those in England's south, and has played host to the Dutch Open on numerous occasions. There is no water to negotiate around Utrecht, but there is certainly no lack of difficulty; changes in elevation and outstanding bunkering are among the obstacles as the course winds through the groves of birch and pine.

The traditional layout at Utrecht stands the test of time thanks to the brilliance of Colt; any fans of heathland golf should elevate the course near the top of their European wish list.
