If you have a private function, the Open Championship Suite, based in the clubhouse, can seat up to 120 guests.
The 78 en-suite bedrooms are superbly finished, and are sympathetically decorated and furnished to reflect the traditional style of the hotel itself; some rooms feature original antique pieces, while the suites are perfect for a special occasion, designed around the incredible four-poster beds. The public areas are ideal for a relaxing moment, especially on the luscious sofas that are placed next to the open fires in the lounge.
There are also 7 bright, modern apartments at The Welcombe which are perfect for golfing groups or couples looking for that bit of extra space. The apartments consist of an open-plan living space, fully functional kitchen with an oven, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine and kettle. Lots of storage and wardrobe space is available plus most offer a spacious shower and separate bath.
The a la carte restaurant serves a mouth-watering menu of English and European cuisine, overlooking the stunning Italian gardens. After golf why not sit back with a drink in the golf bar and what the days sporting action unfold on Sky Sports.
The Welcombe Spa is the perfect place to relax, refresh and reinvigorate. The complex includes a level deck swimming pool with an external vitality pool, heated loungers and foot spas, while the health and beauty treatment rooms are endorsed by the Cabor brand. For the more active visitor, there is a gym with cutting edge technology and an aerobics studio.
On a summer's day, the manicured Italian gardens are a beautiful spot for a stroll, and represent just part of the package that confirms how luxurious a golf and leisure break at the Welcombe can be.

Having stayed here on a few golf breaks over the years we were very disappointed at the state of our bathroom where the enamel have peeled off half the bath and the whole room generally in need of refurbishment. The rest of our group (despite me being the organiser) had perfectly good rooms. Additionally we expected on a cold November night for the fire to be lit - this hotel has been famous for it lovely log fire. There was apparently a 20% discount off bar bills for hotel guests but this was not made obvious - no-one asked us when we paid £175 bar bill nor in the bar in the golf club.

We were given a room upgrade which put us into an absolutely stunning suite, with fabulous views over the course and ornamental gardens. We were treated to a nostalgic experience walking in the footsteps of the poet William Shakespeare. The grade II listed building - a Gothic Manor- adds a sense of grandeur to your stay. The course is equally charming and well prepared with some tough holes to test all levels. The one downside was the slow pace of play with no Marshalls controlling it. Everything about this venue screams "revisit" which we certainly will do.

System down check in difficult. staff numbers very limited. restaurant did not have our booking, we could only get a table later on, service very slow. I did give the hotel feed back. The room. bathroom had a strong sewage smell, the toilet flush handle was coming off the wall, one light over the sink not working the TV picture just juddered and rolled unable to watch.

Perfect for our golf society of 12 people. The location is ideal as only a mile from Stratford upon Avon. The hotel itself caters well, good breakfast and evening meal and bar. The only thing if I was being picky would be the bathrooms are a bit dated, but it’s a lovely old building. The staff were excellent, so would highly recommend it.

Unfortunately didn’t meet our expectations. From the get go the hotel looked tired and we were allocated a room which felt like one of the cheap rooms. On inspection our bath mat was mouldy and our bedroom door didn’t shut / lock properly. The staff weren’t unfriendly but they weren’t pro active either. The restaurant food was nice ce but unforgivable they’d run out of their main item - steak.

Food was excellent. Limited choice for the half board meal, but it was bistro quality. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and hot. Room was as expected, nothing to say. Beautiful terrace overlooking the 16th green. Service excellent throughout. Couple of niggles, the only decent beer was off in both locations, and I don't agree with 'cashless' venues - easier for the staff, not the customers.

It’s very rare that something is perfect. The Welcombe Hotel is just that. A truly beautiful building in a fantastic setting with wonderful staff. And I mean everyone of them! They want you to have the best time and we did, all 44 of us. The spa is lovely aswell, I used it twice and was very impressed. I would recommend this hotel to everybody. The golf review is just as good!!

The hotel itself is a unique building with many period features sat in beautiful countryside alongside tge golf course. The rooms themselves are many and varied, some work with the features with large windows and high ceilings whilst others are a little more modern, all were comfortable and of an acceptable standard. We found staff to be friendly, helpful and efficient. Generally our stay was all that was expected with the added bonus of a period property.

Hotel was fine but is actually separate from the clubhouse. We checked into the hotel after our round but were told that only the clubhouse has Sky sports. After the football we had then to walk along a pitch black lane with numerous potholes to get to the hotel. Not good! We went to dinner on Sunday but our rooms were not on the list. The restaurant manager was very helpful and asked our rooms to his list. However on check out they said we owed them for the 3 dinners. Explained we were on a package so meals were included. Receptionist said he would take it up with his manager and we left. Spoiled the stay.

The hotel is a beautiful building. Rooms were comfortable - exactly what you'd expect. The spa facility was a good start to the Monday morning prior to our 2nd round of golf. Evening meal was tasty, but a touch on the small side. The buffet breakfast was excellent. Drink were pricey, almost £7 for a pint of San Miguel. Staff were helpful.

Summary: Excellent Value! One night stay with golfing partner in a ‘twin’ room. Ok if the two of you are fairly friendly! Beds right together. However they were comfortable …and the bath was good! Trouble with Sunday night deals with golf is there always seem to be staff shortages or meal restrictions. However staff v friendly and food was fine. Also, huge old buildings like this take a bit of running and they pull it off thanks to conferences and weddings I guess. Bit of a trek to get to the golf club, but worth it.

Overall this was a good experience. The hotel has a great history. Many of our oldest hotels can appear a bit ‘tired’. This is no exception but don’t be put off by that. It is a splendid building in an outstanding location. The Spa is excellent. Congratulations to Best Western in recognising the value of investing in this wonderful monument. I have given 5 stars across the range. By modern standards it is not a 5 star hotel. There were minor issues, a bedside light bulb, TV reception one of the rooms but the reception staff were helpful. I would return.

✓30 Jul 2024
Lovely hotel, but the evening meal was extremely disappointing. We were restricted to £24 on a la carte menu or a 2 course table d'hote menu with 3 basic choices for each course. We choose from the table d'hote but the portion sizes were very small. We are 4 slim ladies but left the meal hungry as the portions were so small. This restriction was not mentioned when we booked and I would welcome your response to this.

The hotel is a lovely old building and we visited 11 years before. It looks like no money has been spent since then. The spa looks dated and was previously best in class and the hotel looks like it needs new carpets, paint and TLC. The staff however were excellent. Special mention to Tristan on reception who was amazing. Sadly there was one other major inconvenience for golfers. The hotel and golf course are not connected by road which meant a half mile walk OR a 25 minute, 10 mile drive due to roadworks on the road outside. Not the fault of the hotel but also not ideal for golfers.

✓15 Jul 2024
Big swings in terms of positives and negatives for this hotel. Staff - no where near enough staff and sadly the vast majority of them were simply incredibly rude and inefficient. The reception staff especially were incredibly unhelpful about anything. Location - in terms of proximity to the lovely town of Stratford Upon Avon then absolutely perfect as only a mile away. But we booked this hotel as a 'golf hotel', which unfortunately, it is not. It is golf adjacent at best. You have to walk for 15 mins from the hotel to the golf course. The walk is down a single carriage private road, so when a car approaches, you have to basically get in the hedge with your golf clubs to let them pass. Room comfort - the rooms were perfectly nice. Only problem was that they weren't that big and there was nowhere to store your golf clubs in the room so they ended up taking a lot of space. Again, not something you would usually experience in a golf hotel. Quality of bars and restaurants - this fluctuated. The restaurant food was very nice but the portion sizes were tiny so you left hungry. You could add on a dessert but that would set you back £9 for a frozen piece of lemon meringue pie. The bar (there is only one) was very poor. Seating area was comfortable and there was a good selection of drinks. The problems were: 1 - only one maximum (as often there were none) staff member was serving at a time so when the bar got busy it took ages to get a drink 2 - after 10pm you were not allowed to pay for drinks at the bar, you had to order your drinks and then go and pay at reception by putting the bill on your room. This meant queuing twice and often the bar staff member was the one who then had to go to reception meaning that everyone was waiting longer. 3 - the bar closed at 11pm and they were incredibly aggressive about that. You will receive a reminder from roughly 10:15pm onwards from the staff member who's job it was to collect the glasses. Value for money - judge for yourselves - £6 for a bottle of corona, £4 for a diet coke, and so on....

Bedroom good - great view over the garden. Bathroom a bit tired - sealant around bath etc needs replacing. Good toiletries and tea/coffee options good. Also quiet and windows opened to get fresh air. Spa was excellent - shame we didn't have more time to use it longer/more often. The Victorian public areas - dining room/bar quite impressive. Dinner was average - beef slightly dry and portion size small but staff very attentive. Breakfast buffet very good - lots of choice and frequent replenishment.

It’s a grand building and leaves a lasting first impression. The pool/ spa area was good. The rooms were very warm and no air conditioning means you only get use of a fan. The hotel is beautiful and was an absolute joy to be there, unfortunately there were a few occasions of disappointment, with 16 of us there, most choosing soup for starter, there were no bread rolls on the table, instead the staff brought them out after serving everyone which had taken some time, by which people had given up waiting and eaten their soup or those who waited had tepid soup by the time they got the roll, one player asked about it and was told by the young waiter “I’ve only got one pair of hands “, a more seasoned waiter would probably have apologised and said he would rectify as soon as he could. On the other side of the coin the braised beef was absolutely stunning and the accompanying vegetables and potato made it a very enjoyable meal. As for the bar staff, one player went to get himself a pint and the barman ( there was only one there) told he “you’ll have to come back later, I’ve got 7 coffees to make”!! Which vexed the player somewhat, not because he wasn’t served straight away, it was the attitude of the staff. I spoke to the restaurant manager and he was in agreement and went and spoke to the barman. Post meal was great, we had a bunch who wanted to play a game of poker ( fun chips ), and the staff were great even reorganising some furniture to accommodate them. The buffet breakfast, having been to other places, quite good with a good selection. Some of our players used the swimming pool etc in spa and reported back that it was very good. Would we stay again? Probably not, purely because there was only the one golf course ( it’s nice to have 2 to play ). Would I recommend the hotel? Yes I would, it’s a stunning old mansion.

The hotel was just a pleasant place to stay full of history if you are interested. The one thing to note that the entrance to the actual hotel is not the entrance to the golf course even though it does say golf on its sign. The golf course was challenging but enjoyable. We arrived at the golf club ready for a good cooked breakfast but were informed they could only offer a bacon roll, we had a bacon roll. On finishing our round on the Monday & returning to the club house very wet & hungry, we were informed that there was no food even though we had asked before we played if there would be food available. We were told that they could make a sandwich but on return we were told that the kitchen was being cleaned. We have not visited a golf club before with no choice of food pre round & no food at all post round. Definitely worth a visit but check availability of food at the club house first if you know you are going to need some. We maybe could have gone back to the hotel but we had checked out & were very wet & cold.

The hotel has a stunning entrance, reception, lounge, staircase and dining room. The rooms that YGT booked for us were all excellent and in the main manor house. It would have been nice to have been provided with some bottled water as the cold tap in the bathroom ran warm all the time and perhaps a fridge/mini bar for a hotel of this standard would have been welcome. Otherwise very good, very comfortable bed. The dinner was perfectly acceptable, a choice of three starters, mains and sweets. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, we sat down to eat at 8.15, so not late, and various things had run out or were not available. The cooked buffet was OK but rather undercooked and only luke warm. But, as value for money overall with the golf break it was very well received. The staff were all very efficient and friendly.

The venue is great and the hotel is very atmospheric. However, the standard of the room in which we stayed left much to be desired and the overall service levels were OK but sloppy and lacking attention to detail. For example, a room booked as a twin was set up as a double, the TV remote control was intermittent, the shower screen did not sit properly on the bath and had to be wedged shut. The sink in our companions room was cracked and the final accounts presented to us were inaccurate and only corrected when challenged. These are all things that can be addressed and would have chaged a satisfactory stay into a rewarding one.

We had a great weekend thanks - one of my playing buddies even got a hole in
one on the 2nd! I’ve never seen one before, so that was a thrill.
The tee times were actually a little bit off those that you had emailed but it wasn’t a problem as we still had plenty of time/light to finish all 3 rounds.
The golf course was enjoyable and good fun for all abilities. It wasn’t too long but you definitely have to think about your tee shots. It was certainly easier when playing rounds 2&3 as quite a lot of the tee shots are blind and the golfer benefits from having played once before.
The course condition was pretty good considering all the rain in the preceding week and the greens in particular were especially good for this time of year.
We didn't stay for too long in the clubhouse after each round but it seemed nice. It’s worth noting that the golf course is a little way away from the hotel, so you have to drive to and from. The pros were very good, courteous and managed to be flexible with our tee times.
Hotel rooms were decent. A nice touch was having Apple Macs in the room to watch TV or browse the internet at no extra charge. Free WiFi throughout the Hotel was also a bonus.
Facilities were excellent, especially in the spa so we spent a good few hours in the various treatment areas and in the gym.
While the food on offers was tasty, it seemed like they were trying a bit too hard, and the extra charges for some dishes were a bit on the steep side. Having said that, the setting and the hotel itself was very grand, with lots of huge reception rooms and plenty of olde-world charm. Drinks were obviously quite expensive in the bar, but that is always to be expected in a hotel.
My overall verdict would be a very good 8/10. I don't think we've stayed in a better equipped hotel (this is our 5th annual golf trip) and although I've played more challenging courses, I think it probably suited our handicaps (8 to 28) well.
Your Golf Travel’s service was excellent. There was no
need to re-check with bookings (as I am known to do sometimes) as I felt
confident all was taken care of. I would recommend you guys to friends for
sure.

Nice course, bit tired in places but that’s probably due to playing at the end of a very dry summer. Some lovely holes and the view in places was stunning, especially the 17th leading up to the old Manor House.

Very enjoyable, but required a buggy on the second day. Their tired buggies are offered at £38 and are well used, I would say they are in need of an upgrade as they didn't provide the canopy that protects clubs in the rain.

The course was interesting, although not long, was tight in places and a good test for all handicaps. Although the course had been affected by the hot Summer, the greens and bunkers were in good condition.

The clubhouse was an odd atmosphere - the small bar area (given size of building) was again tired and staff weren’t unfriendly but again appeared disinterested. Food options were limited and they reluctantly served us at 12:30 for food as they said they were closing the kitchen. Pro shop was nice and friendly. The buggy we hired was in need of some love and considering the cost of £38 - was a little insulting. They had grouped us with another 2 ball but didn’t tell us at check in. Unfortunately like many experiences on day one as a female 2 ball the group ahead didn’t let us through despite a gap throughout the round.

Superb condition despite the dry spell we've had. If you're on your game (GIR) there's a great score to be had, but if you miss the (large) greens, there's always something to fret about unless you can flick and check the ball like a pro. Your sand game will likely get plenty of practice either way. Not too long, you could probably keep your driver in the bag if you hit your 3 wood 220+. Buggies are super-speedy, but at £38 a pop, I'm glad there was something special about them.

What a lovely course. The starter gave us the chat before the off and let us know some of the dangers here and there. Very fair course, hit a good shot , it stayed good, hit a poor shot, could find trouble. Some very picturesque holes, my favourite was the 17th tee shot, hotel and gardens behind you, elevated tee, beautiful lake to clear. Stunning hole. I will be back

We had three rounds, day one was good with reasonably quick play and the course presented in a decent condition, the pro shop were accommodating allowing our 2 tees to get off a few minutes early. Day 2 again was a quick round taking under 4 hours. Then day 3, our tee was 10.36, we arrived over an hour early for coffee and a practice, I asked the pro shop if we could get out a few mins early but was informed that a club league team game was out before us, ah, okay I thought. As we practiced I noticed that from around 09.45 nobody was going to the tee but many team players were gathering around the range and putting green. Eventually just after 10.00 team players started to dribble down to the first tee. We eventually got off 20 mins late and proceeded to wait at every shot for the next 5 or more hours I've never encountered such slow play. Rather annoying as we had booked the tees many months in advance and I believe that the team game was shoe horned in front of us. As any golfer will know the repeated waiting at each shot did not help our game or our enjoyment.

Nice course with couple of signature holes. Clubhouse very modern and all the staff were very helpful. Had an issue on the Sunday with a slow group which meant we were approx. 30 minutes late teeing off and led to queues on each tee. It was so bad we played 1-3 and then 12-18 as it would have been dark before we finished.

Played 2 rounds, Sunday afternoon which was extremely busy and took bang on 5 hours. Monday morning was much quieter. Given we'd had quite a bit if rain the course was overall in good condition, fairways were a little scruffy in places, but greens were very good. They held well struck shots, even with long irons and rolled smoothly and consistently when putting. Unfortunately, due to the rain, all bunkers were GUR. A really good mix of holes on this course, plenty of holes you can pull driver, even if you're a long hitter, but several other holes where you need to play tactically.

We took a buggy on Day 2 - thank God! Day 1 stupidly busy so we didn’t complete our round. Day 2 being a Monday, much better. Long! We joked that Warwickshire yards must be longer, as we drew our drivers on nearly every hole except Par 3’s of course. Beautifully sculpted course. Good facilities.

We played on consecutive days. Day 1 was slow, backed up due to morning rain. Day 2 was much quicker. It is a difficult course. Quite long distances between some tees. We walked both days but would probably have rented carts on Day 2. Some hotel courses can be a bit patchy but this is very well maintained. It is hilly with some great views of the countryside and the splendid hotel. The greens were excellent.

Course was in great condition and despite being a hotel golf complex, this is a proper test and was surprisingly good for golfers of all ability in our group. The Pro in the golf shop was extremely friendly and helpful and there were plenty of buggies and the practice facilities were good. We played 11 years ago and it has improved dramatically. Would recommend for big groups

✓15 Jul 2024
I nearly gave the course 4 stars overall because of the location to the hotel, but clearly that isn't the course's fault. A simple shuttle service from the hotel to the golf course would completely transform that part of the experience. Condition of the course was excellent but we were there the weekend of their club championship, so you would expect it to be in great shape. The toughness of the course was obviously related to the above as well as the pin positions were very tough. Value for money for the actual playing of the golf was 5 stars but marked down because of how insanely expensive the club house is. £6 for a can of carlsberg, £7.50 for practice balls.

Lovely setting and a good test of golf. Greens were very difficult to hold the ball on. Friday round was over 5 hours which was frustrating but it was very busy, Saturday a lot quicker and more like 4 hours. Clubhouse was very accommodating with sorting out group coffee and bacon rolls on arrival. Halfway house shut on Friday which was disappointing, but open on Saturday. Range facilities ok but could do with a refresh of range balls as they were all pretty tatty and worn out.
Steve
✓25 Jun 2024
Course is very good, only downside was the green side bunkers had little sand and were hard pan underneath, making it impossible to get the club underneath the ball. Fairway bunkers were ok, so got the set up the wrong way round in my opinion. Apart from that lovely course, lots of great looking holes just a shame about the bunkers. Even my mate off scratch couldn’t get out of them. Sort the bunkers out and you’ve got yourself a little gem!

✓16 Jun 2024
Given improved maintenance and TLC this could be a spectacular course. Each hole had its challenges and was memorable. Pace of play was fine - 4 ball getting round in @4 hours. Very hilly so would recommend a buggy for those struggling to complete a round under "normal" conditions. You need to play this a few times to better understand where to put the ball. Unfortunately we played when the greens had just been hollowed tined and sanded so were not great to putt on. Also the bunkers needed some serious attention - very hard packed and most had weeds growing in them/badly raked. The tees were generally long and skinny but had a "road camber" making it difficult to find a flat stance. Finally the pro shop did not have any record of our second day tee booking despite this being confirmed by YourGolfTravel! Apparently members had grabbed the slots some three weeks before. Fortunately there were some earlier slots so we were able to get out but at some inconvenience in having to get up earlier than desired given it was meant to be a relaxing break! Having said all that, the two rounds were enjoyable enough - but as said it could be a wonderful venue with improved green keeping.

✓30 May 2024
Challenging & picturesque course, some good driving holes & some tricky holes where placement is key, really enjoyed the course but not the 5 hour plus rounds. Limited course Marshalls who were aware of the pace of play but did little to nothing to sped it up, then for the clubhouse team to roll their eyes and smirk when you raise the issue in the bar. This would stop me going back.

✓23 May 2024
This was a fantastic course to play, however, the greens were very firm making if almost impossible to land a ball on the green without it bouncing and rolling off, the first day we didn’t see or repair a single pitch mark!!! The greens, once you got the ball on them were great to putt on, very fast. The 2nd round we played the following day was a stark contrast, with heavy rain overnight and rain forecast all day, 8 of our group decided to give it a miss and return home early, those of us who stayed battled through the rain but at least we could land the ball on the green and it stayed there. The staff were brilliant leading us round the course and rolling any gatherings of water off the greens for us to putt. The club house was great, staff were very helpful and made us all feel welcome. Fantastic course (on a dry day) definitely recommend it.

Course was difficult on Sunday as there was a number of blind shots. The round took 5.5 hours. On Tuesday it was better as we knew the course and the course was quiet. The buggies were expensive at £37 and there was no flexibility on price even when some were single occupancy. Overall we paid £370 over the 2 days. On Tuesday we were the only users. There was a difficulty with tee time on Tuesday. We asked for 10am but told there was a big society so had 11am. The times were changed back to 10 thanks to the help of Sam? We wanted a good lunch to finish our break but was told that there were not enough playing that day to justify a chef so we ended up with sandwiches from the hotel.

Very pretty course. Some crazy holes..greens perched on hills for example and 3 (?) holes where you can’t see where you are driving and sun at a marker stick.. which is always tricky because you don’t know what’s over the ridge..worth investing in a course guide first time round here. Greens in very good condition; and be sure to get a buggy.. it’s very undulating!

✓28 Jun 2023
The course is in great condition. However, it has severe gradient changes throughout so I recommend hiring a buggy if you have the opportunity or you will be exhausted. For high handicappers the course is very punishing on any stray shots as the deep rough is always lurking not too far from the edge and you don't have any chance of ever finding your ball (so either hit it perfect every time or pack lots of balls). It was a great time away and I would return but it's not at the top of my list.
Richard
✓6 Jun 2023
A challenging undulating course with natural obstacles that come into play. Beautiful setting with immaculate greens. Costly if you stray off the fairway with grass cutting in the light rough. Nicely paced round that did not feel rushed.
Cheryl
✓6 Jun 2023
The rough was penal. No first cut off the fairways so you were straight into knee high grass. So many blind holes so lots of lost balls which became extremely frustrating. The two holes you show on the website certainly isnt reflective of the whole course. Very close cut fairways which led to some ‘strange’ bounces and lost balls

It's a decent course that requires most of the clubs in your bag and you will burn calories as it's hilly. Unfortunately the round on Saturday afternoon took just under 5 hours, so we played the last 3 holes in the dark which sucked. The Sunday round was better at just over 4 hours.

We played between Christmas and New Year and the course was in good condition given all the rain we have had. Good variety of holes, 4,5,8,15 stood out but we all thought 16 was fabulous. It has a stream running down and across the fairway, similar to the 18th on the Earth course in Dubai. Your third shot is to an elevated two tier green next to the hotel gardens. Definite photo. 17 a lovely short par 4. Our main criticisms were that we played off a lot of temporary winter tee mats but there were no yardages shown which is poor for a hotel course that gets a lot of visitors. Added to this there were no yardage posts anywhere. There were 200, 150 and 100 yard discs in the fairway but they were all covered in mud,no effort had been made to make them visible. I know we live in a scope and gps world but we were a group of 8 golfers and only one of us had any kind of distance device. Call us purists but we had no idea most of the time how far we were from the green. Very poor. The whole car park barrier code and registering your car so as to avoid a fine seemed completely over the top and quite stressful as with the hotel, absolutely nowhere else to go so you couldn’t be a sneaky free parker. On the whole, nice course, worth playing.

A challenging course with a lot of hills and interesting green positions. The greens were an average speed, which was good, and in a good condition. The 2nd day was easier, knowing the course a little better. We weren't held up at all. The half was hut was open Sunday with a small selection of refreshments but was closed Monday, which wasn't a problem, as it was a quiet day on the course. The clubhouse staff were really good, very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast menu on arrival was ideal and the bar snack on the 2nd day were very good indeed. The Pro and his assistant couldn't have been more helpful. A very enjoyable couple of days bless with good weather!

Big problem on second day of our Sunday Driver. Greens were being hollow tined and our groups missed out on 3 or 4 holes. These happened to also be our selected longest drive and nearest pin. Missing the holes ruined our competition which we have run as group of geographically dispersed friends for over 20 years. No prior warning and no apology or even acknowledgement from staff doing the work. Half way house also shut on the Monday. Huge shame as Sunday the course was in fantastic condition.
