Whitley Bay Golf Club is situated at the North East corner of the ever popular seaside resort and town of Whitley Bay. The course is surrounded by views out over the east coast, Whitley Bay Lighthouse and Whitley Bay visitor centre. This is one golf course that certainly has the views to accompany your round of golf.

The course itself was founded in 1890 on the sea front links however in 1906 the course moved to its current location which is within half a mile of the coast. Since then the course itself has gone through a number of changes to create what you see today. Now we have a fantastic 18 hole golf course that is well known with the area it sits.

Whitley Bay Golf Course

The course is widely regarded as one of the finest and often challenging courses of North East England due to its undulating fairways and tricky greens. Whitley Bay measures 6579 yards from the white tees but plays longer due to the winds that come in from the North Sea.

The views from the golf course are littered with a variety of wildlife, large trees, gorse and rough that borders generous fairways. A key feature to this particular golf course is the Briardene which runs through the course and you must carry this on the 5th,15th and 16th tees and also it comes in to play on the 12th.

The course over the years has hosted it’s fair share of National and County events and even hosted a European Tour event in 1977, The Callers.

We arrived just before a huge downpour which temporary closed the course but we were able to play our round on time with just the bunkers unplayable, the course with the exception of a couple of dullish holes is a cracker, definitely a course would play again which we are going too as they have given us a midweek free fourball for the inconvenience of bunkers not in play, that's what I call service

Lovely golf course that most of our group would happily play every day . Easy to walk but far from boring , it’s got everything just about right . Go play it

This was enjoyable on our final day only getting rained on part way around. Slightly disappoint as was expecting a links type course which it isn’t but that did not detract from a great round with a good mix of difficult and good par holes.
