De Vere Wokefield Estate

Food and drinks were way too expensive- £20 for a Lasagne that was small and microwaved. £6 for a can - a can - of Guinness - hotel was great and food quality was great - just way over priced and so we went out of hotel on last day for food.

Pleasant hotel, modern interior, bar typically a bit Overpriced but nice clean and airy. Food was once again superb.

20 of us stayed for a golf get together which was made all the better by the hotel . We had a very easy check in process , the rooms weee smallish but in good condition very clean. We had dinner and breakfast and both were excellent.

Thank you … we were a bit underwhelmed uo on arrival as you visit the website you see county house and cozy … coming in after a nice day at the golf but wet we thought we were at the wrong place

The hotel was set in wonderful grounds which really make you forget how close to major roads you are. The grounds are vast and for anyone with mobility problems, be wary of the distances needed to walk from accommodation and breakfast and dinner which are eaten at different places. The room was OK, nothing out of the ordinary. The food again was just OK; breakfast was nice but dinner was a buffet with little choice. As a chain hotel, the prices for food and beverages was slightly expensive. Staff were helpful. Overall, considering the price paid, the quality of the room, food and golf was not up to what we expected and I would not recommend to others.

Hotel as a whole very good experience. Buffet menu was really good. Staff were excellent.

Fantastic hotel and staff. Breakfast is a real scrum even at 10.00. Could do with an extra coffee/ tea machine. Staff though were absolutely top notch and so friendly.

The hotel is really well run and has pretty much all you need on-site. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff are very friendly and always ready to help. The food was good and there was more than enough of it as well. The bar area is comfortable and more than big enough to accomodate a large number of patrons. TV's on most of the walls also ensure there is sport on at all times.

Very well appointed hotel. Clean room, air cooling but no air con. All provided services were high quality. Good food but, due to the number of other guests booked on the Friday night, all the golfers were not allowed in the dining room and were provided a self service buffet in a separate area, which was disappointing, although the food was still good.

Well kept hotel and facilities. The receptionist, Drew, was extremely helpful is resolving any issues.

Stayed at De Vere Wokefield Estate for 2 nights and played 3 rounds of golf. Hotel was more than we expected. The staff at this hotel were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. We also enjoyed a really good buffet breakfast each morning with plenty of variety. Evening buffet meal wasn’t a large selection but was very good with nothing to complain about.

It's a clean and comfortable hotel, rooms are nice and the bar and restaurant offer good food and drinks, the staff in the pro shop were friendly and very helpful. Only small grumble is the halfway house wasn't open on day one and when it was open, didn't have simply things like sausage rolls or bottles of water, we are already looking to book for next year and hope they can get the small issues sorted.

Hotel and staff were amazing, absolutely great stay.

The hotel is really nice. The food was very good and the staff were really friendly. The breakfast was also excellent. The rooms were really comfortable. Be careful though, the shower floor is very slippy - make sure you use the non slip mat provided!! My only negative is that they do not sell any proper ale in the bar.

Every one of the staff we encountered, without exception, could not have been more pleasant or willing to help if it was required in a crisis. The problem is that there should not have been any crisis to start with. The estate is enormous, and we, as golfers—10 of us and married couples of an age—slept on one edge of the estate, ate on the other side of the estate for dinner, and had breakfast in the middle. Thank goodness it wasn't raining! One of our rooms was not serviced, loo rolls were at a premium, we had to knock on doors for a spare roll, one of the showers was blocked and had sewage smells.The venue was immensely busy with thousands of cars and nowhere to park. Frankly, we felt we were in the way plus there was a male group of golfers we befriended who had the same experience as ourselves. Complaints were listened too and we were compensated in different ways such as a reduction on golf buggies charge etc. Extremely high bar prices! Shaun in the pro shop returned from leave to help us out but he should not have been put in that position. From looking at the venue online and booking with high expectations the reality upon arrival was quite different. Disappointing overall.

It was with some trepidation that we booked Wokefield Park, last year they bounced us a week before we visited and we transferred to Old Thorns. It seems they had had a better offer! This year again we came second fiddle to the almighty BMW who were holding a massive conference there. It came to a head when we went to the restaurant on the first night. It took us 1/2 hour to get an order placed another half an hour to get a drink and a further 30 mins before food arrived around 9 o'clock. Not even an offer of a bread roll to keep us going! We complained bitterly around 3 times, finally an assistant duty manager came and offered an apology and under pressure offered to give us compensation of a couple of bottles of wine and free liquers! The food when it came was good, but they never really gave us fuoll explanation of the delay, we just realized that we were second to BMW. Would we go back? Maybe if we could be sure that we were not going to be 2nd class citizens

Absolutely superb hotel with staff that couldn’t do enough for you.

Beautiful setting. Staff extremely helpful especially ‘Emelie’, on Reception who was fantastic! Breakfast was slightly chaotic as a large wedding group staying also and queue for Tea/Coffee was so long, some gave up. Otherwise excellent stay and will return.

The food was excellent. The rooms were of a high quality and the staff were extremely helpful.

The hotel & facilities were overall good. It felt very clean and welcoming. The staff were either very helpful or didn't want to help at all. Some members came across rude. It seemed like they were more eager to help them guests in suits rather than the ones in golf tops. The meal in the evening was extremely limited both nights. Those guests who ate meat were disappointed with the dryness and tasteless options, then the ones who have a plant based diet... well they only had a poor option of potatoes and peas for dinner on 1 night. No option of a plant based desert either. Even for the buffet breakfast the only hot plant based options were beans and hash browns. We have left a complaint and alternatives to the hotel about this and hope that they change it for future vegan guests.

Well it was advertised as de veer Hotel,with nice twin rooms,but ended up next door,on entry only a double bed,had to get it changed for a twin,eat in restaurant first night, then told to eat in a room with a buffet dinner second night,no choice,very upset with the false or no information, to be honest I think you should be ashamed of yourself for advertising this,and at that price was a total rip off for what we got,not what I booked for my 56th birthday,very upset,and will not book another trip with you.

Good , clean and well staffed hotel. Wedding on Saturday in central area made bar access difficult for a while. Do t understand why every plug in the room is unplugged - had to crawl under desk to plug in tablelamp, otherwise room was comfortable.

The hotel internally has had a lot of work done on it but the exterior seems to not have been given the same attention. The area around the Manor House is good but the hotel element is as nice. The staff in the bar are very slow and there was only one member of staff serving on a Saturday night. It took us 20 minutes to get a drink, there was only one table of 5 and a group of lads but this meant that ordering drinks took far longer than it should.

The whole place was amazing lovely rooms overlooking the golf course food was great I can recommend the buffalo wings and the huge burger and large choice of dessert crème brûlée was lovely the golf course was challenging but in good condition would revisit

Lovely location. Rooms comfortable. Fantastic breakfast. We had dinner in the Mansion House which was nice and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. As a resort hotel, the bar prices were on the high side, but that was to be expected.

Have stayed a few times as like the course. Only downside is that the breakfast is never very warm

I have issued a formal complaint to your golf travel regarding the whole of the 2 day and 1 night stay. Mix up with rooms caused a significant embarrassment check in staff extremely slow and incompetent example telling us we didn’t book enough rooms when we did. Example giving 2 different couples the same keys to one room

Very efficient and enjoyable stay. Good sized rooms with comfortable beds and a surprisingly good 'Golf Menu' for dinner for our group of 10. Service was a little patchy but 'keen' but the food served was excellent. Well presented and delicious.

Very polite and helpful staff. Restaurant and bar excellent but a little slow service at the bar but the outside area on a sunny evening made up for it

Modern, comfortable and spotlessly clean hotel with good sized rooms and comfortable beds. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and breakfast was great. There were 24 of us and not one complaint.

Decent rooms, bar and breakfast. Not a fan of the self service evening meal with just pork chop or chicken thigh as meat, but there we are....Did have to remind staff to add the YGT group discount at virtually every trip to bar - but worth checking!!

Very nice accommodation with great spaces to relax either for a coffee or a beer. The spa also looked very good but didn’t get time to use it. Rooms were a decent size, modern and comfortable.

The rooms were brilliant! Only thing is they don’t have much options apart from a small fan when it’s 32 degrees! none of the party slept well as too hot but otherwise rooms were clean beds comfortable

Fantastic hotel, beautifully decorated. Sports bar was well located by the 18th green and far enough away from the restaurant. Friendly staff.

Together with 35 of our party of golfers we had an overnight stay at the De Vere on the Sunday/ Monday 13/14/ August and I know the vast majority enjoyed our stay at the hotel. A little hiccup was on Sundays there is only a help yourself buffet and it was fine overall. The accommodation was very good and the price we paid for the accommodation and 2 games of golf was exceptionally competitive. The staff and organisation and professionalism was first class Our bacon butties on our arrival came bang on time which was pretty good as there were 36 of us. Booking on was easy. The location was great and took about 2hrs to get there from Cardiff/Penarth.

We found the hotel to be more than required for a golf break. The rooms are clean with a good shower. The restaurant food was very good, even though the bar menu was on the pricey side. It's biggest plus was the staff, form the bars to the restaurant the staff are young well trained, polite and very attentive. Special mentions go to Mainak Das in the restaurant and Phoebe and Olivia in the bar.

The hotel has a major problem with communication between departments. Very little agreed with the 'golf reservations' folk was actually in place in the hotel. From the set up of the tables for dinner to the provision of the preordered wine at almost every step I had to micro manage the situation. We will not be returning.

Very nice accommodation, food also very nice!

Food and Beverage department were excellent, no one really knew what the YGT dinner meant (it doesn't it means an allowance, and that's where its fun! - reception said £26, restaurant said £27 and the bill said £25 - with mains at £19+ average it means a main and ice cream)

Excellent hotel and facilities, staff very attentive and helpful. Buffet service was very good. Outside areas were excellent especially the patio area outside the golf shop. Only downside was the rooms were very warm but considering the weather unless there was air conditioning this could not be helped.

Bedrooms fine. Swimming pool excellent. Staff helpful. Breakfast would have been very good but the food was not got, shame. evening dinner was generally considered by all to be poor.

The hotel is OK, no better and no worse than you would expect for the money, but the food for dinner was the worst we have had on any golf trip. We would not come back.

Pleasant stay one night is enough

We expected to stay in the Manor House as all of the photos imply. This wasn't the case. We were in a completely different building. We didn't get to dine in the restaurant as we were put in "the pantry" which is a self service buffet. There was only 1 bar open which meant very long queues. All pleasant enough if a bit disappointing

Really interesting course, shame it was so wet, would like to go back oil summer. Dinner was good, given £26.00 allowance, but it cost a lot more than that to eat, would have been better as like most trips that meal is fully inclusive with package. Breakfast was buffet and a best, Warm, which was a bit disappointing. The staff though were more than helpful. The bar run out of certain draught beers and cider, which then limited choices

Staff were excellent, especially as my wife is handicapped. Family enjoyed all the facilities available. Bar staff did not always take off the 20% as we were on a golf package.

Our room could have been cleaner and it was generally a bit tired. Bed comfortable though.

Nothing to criticise, everything you need from the staff and hotel. Plus a discount at the bar for golfers, £5 a pint very good near London and good selection of drinks.

The staff is friendly. Two guys in our group had to pull out last minute, the hotel said they would give us vouchers so we don’t loose the money on the rooms. However the booking was through a third party, so I had to ask Yourgolftravel to contact the hotel to make arrangements. Yourgolftravel was not interested helping, so although the break was good I would not use this agency again.

Looked quite tired and ridiculous that breakfast finished at 9.30 and the bar closed at 10.30 considering the hundreds of men there waiting to spend money , also mad you could not buy a single bar snack or the half way house was closed

When we booked in they could not find our booking . Took 15 minutes . Not under Andrew Brunswick was under something like Andrew 1. We were not booked in for dinner . They got us a bar table and we had to sit in the corridor outside the entrance to the restaurant. Restaurant fully booked . Took them ages to find us again on the computer. Food was poor 4/10 I would give it . We asked for salt and pepper it never came . We eventually got our wine while we were eating our pudding . Had to chase it up before the wine arrived .

Bar had no draft beer on because apparently the manager had not ordered enough. To top it off the my ran out of bottled beers and ciders that our group was drinking too! We were basically left with whatever bottles they had in the cellar. Poor poor bar management. Front of house staff were so embarrassed. 7 twin rooms we booked and out of that one was set up as a double, one shower didn’t work at all and was never fixed through out the 3 night stay and 2 rooms toilets didn’t flush!! One room was swapped on the last night and the other was never fixed and no communication from hotel about after complaint raised on the first evening of the stay! Shocking bar management, shocking admin staff for the hotel. Restaurant supervisor Jamie was an absolute star all weekend and Sam behind the bar was a legend too as we’re most front of house staff. Management need to be taken to one side and given a good talking to!

Everything was OK except only 2 beers on tap as ,changing suppliers!!!!!, not good for the middle of August with weddings and conferences going on Food was good except the steak ,dry and chewy

Great place, great value, really enjoyed our stay.

The accommodation was clean and well appointed. There were several places on site to eat. The best being the View Restaurant. As part of the package it would have been good to have the option to choose which to eat in. The pool, gym and sauna was of a high standard, but requires lockers to make it easy to store items. The outdoor areas were nice places to relax and were spaced around the hotel. It would benefit the customer if wrist bands were supplied to identify that you were a golf package guest and subject to 20% off drinks. This would mean that we wouldn't have to explain this to the staff each time a drink was purchased.

Nice hotel but rooms very hot & food terrible

On a two night stay for most of us, especially given the single supplement most of us paid, we expected that our rooms would be serviced after the first night, but no. We returned to our rooms with unmade beds, wet towels, no replenishment of coffee, tea, etc., It was well into the evening of day two that anything was done, and that after numerous complaints. Breakfast was, for the early bird, excellent BUT after some two plus hours under a hot lamp those down later for breakfast were rewarded with cremated bacon, hard baked fried eggs, etc.etc., The main lobby had water filling stations BUT again these seem to be refilled once a day, but when? The evening meal was a buffet delight, NOT. If you arrive late, we had no option due to tee off times, you might be lucky and get some food selection was either sea bass or beef brisket, but no beef! If you don’t like mashed potato then hard luck! Then there was the 20% discount on any purchases. Why was this not advised to us before arriving or signing in? Why did we have to keep repeating the fact we were there as a society playing golf? This was our 16th weekend away and having really looked forward to this event we were all bitterly disappointed; never had to complain before. Finally, £4 for chunky chips? In my tiny basket there were 16 chips! That’s 30p a chip, or six bob in real money, REALLY? I suggest the hotel owners make a visit, unannounced, go to breakfast say at 9:30 and experience it. The in the evening experience the ‘buffet’ meal.

Everything clean, staff attentive and food / drinks were brilliant . While group was treated amazingly.

Great venue for a golf weekend, well looked after by all the staff.

Hotel was great but there were long queues for food and didn't seem to be enough staff as every table had plates and glasses gathering on it.

We had some issues with rooms not being serviced pre our second night. No changing facilities by the swimming pool

Expensive drinks and then informed on the Sunday just before we left we qualified for a group discount of 20% on all food and drink !!!

We had great rooms but one had a broken light switch which took them 2 days to fix, and one of our vehicles was broken into on the first night and all there golf gear was stolen

Hotel really good and great value for money

While we enjoyed our stay, the room was not serviced we had to ask for dry towels which took a trip to the reception to finally get, a broken toilet seat was never fixed after complaining many times and flying across the bathroom if not careful, the Irish guy at reception is condescending and unhelpful and really doesn’t care, except if your a stunning blonde female as we watched him go to pieces and upgrade her to the best rooms in the hotel.

Facilities, food and room were all good. However, check-in took about 45 mins and restaurant was short staffed at dinner and breakfast time resulting in poor experience.

A group of 14 golfers, arrived early, pre check in sorted, played golf then checked into our rooms, no problems, rooms were fine no issues for a two night break, buffet breakfast plenty of choice, and evening meals there were enough to choose from although limited to £25 pp, considering there was a huge Indian wedding function taking place during our stay, the staff were extremely busy but we got our meals without to much delay. You can always find faults, but nothing that would stop me from returning again.

This venue has real issues. The staff are overworked and there is no management to be found. There seems to be no coordination at all and confusion about our booking. We stayed in the Manor House and the rooms are lovely so no issue there but no one knew what our arrangements were …time consuming. The staff really worked to make up for it and they deserve a medal for their good spirit.

Stayed in Wellington Lodge, a separate building a few mins walk from the main hotel and golf course. Rooms were spotlessly clean, well stocked with tea and coffee and comfortable beds. Hotel looked to have been recently refurbished and looked modern, clean and spacious. Restaurant had a good selection of tasty food and drinks, fairly reasonably priced.

Unfortunately we were staying in Wokefield Place, the 'conference centre' and golf society accommodation rather than the Mansion House. WP was suffering from a severe shortage of staff due to a lot of them contracting Covid at Reading festival. This meant we had long queues at the bar, had to get out own drinks from the bar when in the restaurant and they struggled to open both restaurant areas for breakfast even though there were too many people for the View restaurant upstairs. The staff who were there did their best, especially Chloe the waitress in the Pantry restaurant on Saturday evening. The rooms were clean and the housekeeping staff were helpful. Bathrooms were a bit small. If you are looking for something cosy, WP is not the place to go. It has plenty of 'breakout areas' and it's very light and airy with a vaulted 'Avenue' down the middle but I thought it was reminiscent of an airport lounge.

Very enjoyable & relaxing. Only complaint was the room was cold at night & could not work out how to turn heater on.

This was our second golf break and stay at the De Vere. As before, the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was clean and comfortable.

We complained about the extreme prices of drinks, £15 for a glass of wine is extreme. We were also not made aware of how to claim our discount on drinks. We sorted it out in the end. We also complained about no hot water in the afternoons, after golf. The quality of the food was also not very good at all with limited choice.

The hotel rooms were adequate, however the rooms were not serviced during our 2 night stay. When I asked why I was told this was due to COVID. This wasn’t explained when we checked in and a number of our party had to go to reception to request clean towels and additional tea and coffee making items.

Food service was slow and bar staff not very helpful. Also took last orders early. Didn’t tell us we had to book restaurant although package said buffet restaurant it wasn’t and we had a credit which meant a booking was required

Spacious rooms very clean. Not cleaned while we were there but did not bother us at all. Felt safer. Reception replenished anything we needed on asking. Food in restraunt very good but would have liked more choice as quite a few items not on menu. No chicken 2 nights running. Then ran out of orange juice. Waiting staff were great working really hard. They were pushed at the weekend as had 3 weddings. But coped best they could.

Everything from the bar staff to breakfast service was 110% I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Very welcoming staff and in bars/restaurants - Excellent Sports Bar! Food was good and enough variety for a short stay. Very clean and Covid safe in all areas & prompt response regarding any housekeeping matters. We would not have found it though if it wasn't for our reliable satnav. Overall excellent value for money and would definitely recommend.

Accommodation OK, although room not large and storage space limited and minimal. Double bed is also not as large as used to. Comfortable and well positioned. Staff very friendly and helpful in restaurant, reception and golf shop. Value for money in restaurant excellent during the pandemic because dinner could not be buffet (on dinner B&B golf break). Allowed 3 course dinner from a la carte menu, which was very good.

Good food nice rooms and good value for money Would recommend

Absolutely faultless! Rooms were modern, well equipped and comfortable. The staff were attentive and friendly, there was a gym and very nice pool and the restaurant was absolutely fine. Very impressed.

Great hotel, very clean. Covid stopped us using the full hotel facilities. Other than this we had a very pleasurable stay.

Always a great venue and a challenging golf course

I had a good welcoming on my arrival that set a good start to the day we all in joyed the course, and would recommend it the meals where fine and enjoyably the bar was a bit of a let down as on the Sunday as they run out of some of the drinks there was a bit of a set back on the first day on arriving i parked my Van in the car park in front of reception about 50 yards away we had our round of Golf and when i got back someone had broken in to my van, Damaging the drivers handle and lock, opened the back of the van looking for any tools they could find , but they only managed to take a few items, i tell the staff at reception they took a few note but the feeling was they could not care less i thought they would offer to pay for the damage if nothing else but No nothing So don`t take a Van What a shame

Excellent value for money. Staff were very helpful and food was good. Rooms at the BMW academy were basic but more than adequate for a golf weekend.

Twin rooms were a tsmall for two grown men, but neat and tidy and well looked after. The food was exceptional value unless you wanted bar snacks and these were very expensive, which took the gloss off our experience. There was a big Sales Convention on at the same time as our visit and apart from a crowded breakfast and lunch, they didn't impinge on our enjoyment to any great extent

The stay at the hotel was fine however the experience in the restaurant spoiled an otherwise enjoyable weekend. Both evenings the restaurant ran out of food by 9pm, in particular the main choices in the buffet. When the hotel is aware of groups of people booked in for a certain time it should be able to provide food for them. In addition, breakfast was a similar experience. again food had ran out by 9.30am, no bread for toast, tables not cleared or set. Pretty much a complete shambles! The staff however were very accommodating and where asked for assistance provided a high level of service.

Nice rooms nd facilities. Good evening meal. Some of our party thought the cooked breakfast items were not hot.

Hotel rooms clean and good amenities. Staff at restaurant were not great and quality of food was very poor. Waiting all the time at they buffett for servers to be refilled. Bar ran out of whisky and gin. Also understaffed. Golf Apparell went missing from one of the rooms.

Very good design, some very good holes, whole course a good test and very enjoyable for all handicaps. Greens were Rolling at a good pace, just a shame some areas are showing wear and the need for attention but this by no means spoiled our 3 days of golf. Bunker inconsistency a bit of a shame some firm not much sand mainly due to rain water pooling but others way too much sand often not compacted or raked, mostly not the course fault just lazy players. overall though the course is in good shape especially after another very dry summer.

Whilst it has undoubtedly been a very tough year for courses due to the very dry summer there were numerous tee boxes which were shabby as were a couple of greens . However it was good for mid to high handicappers . The range was good easily accessible and in good condition . All the golf Staff were very helpful and all made us feel welcome.

This was by far the worst course we have played. It is clear the course is not a primary concern for the owners of the estate and this shows from the very first tee box. Appreciating the very hot weather the UK has experienced this summer, we didn’t expect top notch conditions. However, it was apparent the course condition is more than just weather worn, it has been neglected. A number of holes had more bare patches than grass and another had a large mound of mud just beyond the tee box which impaired the view and for those who aren’t big hitters, would be a massive obstacle. The greens were exceptionally slow, not true and covered in bare patches and ridges. Such was our utter disappointment that we paid out of pocket to play at another course on the day we should have played our included second round. It is a shame as the holes are interesting but the course needs serious investment to justify the course fee, let alone be included in a not inexpensive golf break.

Layout was more difficult than slope rating with many bunkers and water hazards. Fairways suffered from dry summer. Green aprons also poor in many places. Six greens approximately diseased . Disappointed as course would have played a lot better without these issues.

So, so slow. Six and a half hours on Saturday and then six on Sunday. The slowest rounds we’ve ever played. Pro shop staff on Saturday were brilliant. Sunday morning was a different matter. Someone should be a traffic warden instead of a pro shop cashier. Sorry, but true. Is this a £60 per round championship course. Well that’s what they charge and it is. But not in our book. It felt like conveyor belt golf whilst your pocket was being dipped. £40 for a buggy. Come on. The most we’d payed is £30 before this weekend, oh, and according to mr Sunday cashier, you can’t have your buggy until 40 minutes before your round. Try lugging your cart bag up to the range and back. Apart from Captain Sunday, the shop and bar staff were brilliant.

The course offers some great challenges and the bunkers are well placed to require a bit of thought on each shot. Not just a course to step up and smash a long drive, although there are enough holes where you can indeed do that. The greens are true and play quite fast as well, with some very challenging pin placements. We had two rounds and day 1 moved along relatively well. Unfortunately we had to pull out after 9 holes on day 2 as there was a group of 6 guys who were playing together and ended up holding up the entire field. It took us nearly 3 hours to play just 9 holes with sometimes three groups waiting at each tee-box.

Greens losing them in places . Putting was true. Bunkers terrible , deep and ball ran up to the overhanging making it virtually impossible to get out, need attention to allow ball to run back to a position to give a chance to get out. Fairways quite bare and hard , but lack of rain may be the cause of that.

Greens needed watering, burnt and nearly lost them. But main issue was slow play on Sunday. 2 groups on the tee by the 3 rd hole. 2 hours 45 mins for nine holes. We walked in as did 3 groups ahead of us.

The course was very dry due to the recent hot weather. The fairways were running and each hole had several well placed bunkers and water hazards and as such, just about every good shot was punished. Even the higher handicapped golfers in our group suffered. The greens were fast but true. We played the day before Club Championship so not surprisingly they were challenging. The halfway house was amazing and a definite stopping point. If played again, we all agreed that the forward Black tees, would have probably made all our rounds more enjoyable, but as a venue for our group of 8, it was excellent.

Given the hot weather, the course was very dry and running. The set up is well designed but all the run off areas are covered by either sand or water so, even good shots were punished, which did become very annoying. It's a great test but if i played it again, i would favour the forward Black tees. The greens were true and slick. This may have been because we played the day before Club Championship but although tough, they were consistent. As a venue for our group of 8, it was perfect and we would definitely go again.

The course itself was ok, but the sprinkler system for the greens was not working properly. The greens had large burnt brown areas that were impossible to land the ball on, or putt on. It didn't help that the flags were sited in those areas. The green keepers should have moved the to any green patch available. While we expected the fairways to be brown after a long period of heat we didn't expect the greens to be. No recompense was offered by the manager. Very disappointing for our group to have to play in these conditions, after looking forward to the trip for several months. It was like playing on a sadistic crazy golf park. After taking pictures and complaining to several "managers " the golf durector did offer us vouchers to return at a later date for golf only.

Very nice challenging golf course, but unfortunately greens were very bare due to lack of watering. But that cant be helped with the recent dry and hot weather. Fairways brown but course was very playable, just avoid the many deep bunkers.

We played 3 rounds Friday to Sunday. We really enjoyed the course and its challenges. Some really tricky large bunkers positions off the tee on many holes. Greens were in really good condition and hard to read. Overall we were very happy and will return again.

This was the 3rd year we have done this trip and it's a great course, lots of hazards and a real test, but with the dry weather earlier in the year, the course greens and fairways are hard and these are quite a few patches on the greens.

Course in excellent condition.

The course was very dry, this could not be helped as we are in a drought situation. However, this course relies on target type golf with greens that are meant to be receptive. Our group consisted of the full h’cap range. The marshall told us that we had to play off the forward tees - way in front of the yellows - near the red tees. This cost at least 2 h’cap shots for the better players, then combine this with pins that were impossible to get close to with very firm greens, this meant the better players had no chance of competing. This was a shame and means we would not return in a hurry.

It was unfortunate that it was so dry rain was desperately needed but the condition of the course was pretty rough despite the lack of rain. The estate is a beautiful Manor House of stature with a golf course as an extra which is quite different to a golf course with a hotel and it showed. Again disappointing.

All 6 golfers suffered a spate of lost balls. unfortunately the lack of rain meant some of the fairways were had little grass. The bunkers were evil, due to the raking machines they all seemed to be flat which meant that you were often stuck under the lip of a bunker. Normally a ball will roll down the slope away from a lip. The greens looked dry but were actually in good nick, trye and fast!

Very enjoyable, and the ducks and geese were nice to see but I think they may be the reason the greens were bumpy 🤣

Nice course, let down with poor bunkers, full of water, no water in any ball cleaners, tatty around the edges.

Superb course in great condition, even though there had been a bit of rain it didn’t spoil your enjoyment.

Our group of 16 loved the course. It was challenging and beautiful. Sadly, due to its society overuse and poor drainage the fairways were not in great condition as we are used to. The greens were fast and generally true though the damage to lack of pitch mark repairs and overall upkeep could be addressed. However, for the excellent deal, we all said we would come back again in the summer months as our stay was most enjoyable overall. Thank You

The tees were scruffy. The greens were in poor condition because golfers don't repair their pitch marks. The course is long and plenty of long grass. It's not an easy course.

My overall experience was ok. The course itself was in a great condition. The amount of golfers they allowed on the course was too much in my opinion. It felt very over crowded at times, which then meant there was a lot of waiting between shots. unfortunately we were held up with a lot of drunk players taking their time between shots. This angered our group and put a downer on our whole experience.

Lovely course, some greens hadn’t fully recovered from maintenance but not big problem. Some good challenging holes and good variety around course. Pro shop staff very helpful and good driving range area and plenty of buggies!!

On both days we were behind a woman society meaning both rounds of golf took at between 5.5 and 6 hours to complete! On the first day, we were immediately behind them, playing as a two ball. We were not offered to play though, to help speed up the play, when they came up to us they were surprised we were put behind them. On the second day, the same group of ladies went out an hour before us but yet again pace of play was awful. By the 6th hole, the pace of play had come to a halt again, meaning we were waiting on the tee boxes for 15/20 minutes a time to start the hole. Despite the pace of play, the fairways were completely scorched, the greens on numerous holes had been aerated and not been cut since. The tee boxes looked like a mess, the divots weren’t filled in and the were no tee bins, meaning the boxes were littered with tees. Overall, not an enjoyable golf weekend

Summer maintenance work on the greens was being carried out, which has to be done... This did not detract from the golf experience. The course is tough and challenging... as golf should be. Golf shop staff were very helpful and I would definitely recommend it a visit.

Challenging course, lots of large bunkers and some water to contend with. For the amount of footfall it must get it was in a decent condition. We had three ladies in our group who played together in the first group and unfortunately were behind a four ball in two buggies who had no idea about any golf etiquette. Driving backwards and forwards, shouting and drinking large quantities of alcohol. At one point in the round they became quite abusive to our ladies three ball. We informed the pro shop by phone and someone did come out to talk to them and move them on. My sense is when you have a value for money setup like Wokefield it has the potential to attract people who prefer a more social / party round of golf.

Course was a good layout. Suited all handicaps. Good all round good condition and some interesting long and short holes. Quite a few bunkers and water hazards. Long grass in various rough areas. All players enjoyed and liked the course. Would return for another visit.

First day very slow. Five and a half hours. Stuck behind older couples in buggies who used them to move about 3 yards and wasted lots of time. Not the clubs fault but a Marshall would have helped.

Issues with our 7 tee times being moved from 10.36 to 11.40 with severe blaming YGT and YGT blaming devere. Some of our golfers went home the rest were very unhappy formal complaint issued to YGT

Unfortunately we were behind a group of four in buggies who must have set off half an hour before us. We caught up (on foot!) and they wouldn't let us through until about the 14th hole when a Marshall finally appeared. That round took well over 5.5 hours which disrupted our flow and we then didn't have time to enjoy the Spa/Pool. Our second 18 holes the next day was perfect.

The course was no crowded so felt like we could relax during our round . Bunkers were extremely compacted

The course was lovely greens and fairways were in great condition, Bunkers were a let down alot of them needed attention as they was in bad way the rough was fair and definitely playable but punishing if you did go in it. Unfortunately for us tho we found ourselves behind a group of total idiots that just wore sliders as golf shoes and a pair of shorts with no shirt on at all, they slowed the entire course down and when we complained nothing was done, Unfortunately resulted in 5½ hour rounds of golf each day.

Extremely slow on the Sunday (5 hours)The course layout is very good and a challenge for all handicaps. More care and attention to the tee box’s, shorter grass on the fairway and tidy up the bunkers and this would be a stunner. Our round on the Monday was much quicker (3.5 hours) would I return? Yes.

Five hour rounds Course layout was good but condition of the course was average at best. Greens were not consistent some fast some slow Would we return to Wokefield Park….probably not

Very challenging most enjoyable

The course is kept in good condition and I found it a tough test( handicap 18. The downside of the course was the length of the round- 5 hours or so for a 2 ball when we normally go round in 3 hours or so. The pro in the shop said that you need to allow 5 - 6 hours due to the mixed ability of the golfers on the course and players taking too long to look for balls. A lot of society players.

Good course, varied holes, decent condition but for the bunkers. Attractive course, interesting but long and not easy! Rounds both took 4h 45min (on Sunday and Monday) which was too slow for us. We asked and were told this was standard. Halfway hut (which we really needed) remained closed so drinks were only obtained by going into the hotel. Pro-shop had bottled water and lucozade only. A drinks machine would be a suggestion for near 5hr rounds and hot days.

Considering the recent weather it was in very good condition.. fairways and greens good…possibly 2 or 3 bunkers neglected a little… needed tidying..

Course was in very wet condition due to heavy rains, but nothing you can do about it. Timing could have been better with our visit considering the heavy rains over the past couple of weeks. But that's life so I can't really say course was in bad condition, it was just super wet everywhere.

Everything great but it was really slow

Our trip was originally postponed in December due to course closure and we rescheduled for mid March, the course was open but still extremely wet underfoot with no buggies allowed. Unfortunately, due to the wet weather, the machinery couldn’t access the course to cut the fairways or rake the bunkers, hence the overall lower ratings. The course could be fantastic, it has some excellent holes with plenty of water and hazards and we are looking forward to returning in the summer when the weather improves and I’m sure the course will be in good condition.

Course overall in good condition greens fine but as usual some golfers just will not repair their pitch marks well designed with bunkers placed in all the right places or wrong depending if your in loads 😁

A decent enough course - greens a little patchy. Very busy on the Sunday (what golf hotel isn't!) but golf shop staff helpful, buggys decent price and good for 2 x rounds.

Slowest rounds we've ever played, both Friday and Saturday were in excess of 5 hours. Fairways were hard and quite patchy with balls taking all sorts of bounces.Not enough buggies available. Won't be back to play again.

Decent warm up facilities(chipping & bunker plus a separate putting green along with a range) The course played very well, tees were mixed in terms of condition but all acceptable. Plenty of traps to make you think about your club choice and the greens were excellent. Overall a very good challenge and a great day of golf.

First day was brilliant even though the weather was too hot! 2nd round only managed 9 holes as the group before were mucking about and we took 3 hours to reach the 9th hole! Going to book again but hopefully get earlier tee times as it would have gotten to dark to finished

The weather was wonderful, the fairways rather long and some bunker maniac has been let loose when designing the course. The semi rough was a bit too long, as we had difficulties in finding our balls otherwise the course was a fun to play and challenging.

Tough course for a high handicap golfer, for the group I was with it was a perfect mixture of challenging holes and a few short ones. Fairways very generous but a lot of trouble if you wasn’t in the right spot. I thought the rough was thick and you was punished for not being on the fairway. Green were very quick and in great condition. A massive thanks goes to Chas for finding a perfect course for the information/requirements I provided and asked for. Will happily book through your golf travel again.

We were a party of 36 and the vast majority of us thoroughly enjoyed the course which was quite challenging. If you get 36 pts playing stableford you’ll be in the mix for prizes. Every hole was different and the 14th stroke index 1 is a proper stroke index 1 and not many of us parred that on the first day. The course is reasonably flat and not too hilly. The greens were very quick and great fun trying to work out a line. The only criticism is it took between 4.5 to 5 hrs to complete. If you’re a big party make sure the low handicappers go first a lesson we learned too late! The half way house is brilliant but not exactly cheap but hey ho you’re away enjoy yourself.

First look at the course you would think pretty easy but what a shock at how difficult it was, course was superb and challenged all 20 of us with a good range of handicaps, would definitely recommend and also return myself

First round was slow due to slow players 5 hrs is too long. Second round with a cart was only 3 hrs ,my golf wasn't good 😊

We played the course in 35mph winds on day one. torrential rain on day 2, and perfect golfing weather for the rest of our stay. despite the elements the course withstood all nature could through at it and still came up trumps. A big thank you to the greenstaff for all thier hard work.

The course plays long as there are a lot of dogleg holes and lots of bunkers. That said its a very fair course and scores were generally much improved on our second round.

Enjoyable course, needed a bit of water on fairways and greens. Was a very slow round this particular day. But still enjoyable!

First day (Sunday very slow over 5 hours), weekdays max 4 hours greens were tough to read but reasonable, rough was horrendous I have never lost as many balls (but thats my fault!!)

Because of the weather the greens were firm. Never seen so many bunker in my life and they were placed in just the right place to get your ball. If your game is on you’ll love the course, if it’s not you’ll find it very difficult. All in all a very testing course that was enjoyed by everyone on the trip.

Well laid out with a lot of water hazards and bunkers. Condition of bunkers and tees very poor. Greens and fairways were fair.a goot test of golf tho.

The course is nice with some very interesting holes which make you think about the shot, but the rough was really thick and long. Keep it straight and in play or you are in big trouble.

The course is a bit like a ploughed field but if you keep on the fairway it’s ok

We had 3 rounds booked. 1st round took us 3 1/2 hours to ply 9 holes so we gave up. 2nd round took 5 1/2 hrs for 18 holes. A lot of lying water and muddy stretches. Would be a lovely course given a few weeks of dry weather. Tee boxes were quite uneven and worn. 3rd round we didn't bother.

Can't say to much about course as it was very wet, they can't help the weather, but would like to back and try it again in the dry. Had some real interesting holes

Not sure the golf course should have open. Very wet everywhere, probably could have claimed casual water on every hole because it was so wet. I think there needs to be a lot of land drains installed to try and clear the surface water off the fairways. Not sure if spring program has been carried out, but the greens need treatment to clear the moss. Would like to play again when dry.

My rating is very low because the course was very very wet with all the rain we have had. I’ve never played on a such a muddy course ever. I went in to pro shop after nine holes covered in mud up to my knees & explained to the pro we were killing the course & made him come out & take a look. The course was unplayable & should of been cancelled. A lot of the boys were very disappointed. Some didn’t play second round on the Monday went straight home.

Unfortunately the course was so wet and muddy. The bunkers were in such poor condition and why they have so many and so big must cost a fortune to upkeep.

A lot of people playing, 5hr round, however, the weather was nice on the Saturday so all ok. The course was a little muddy, but we'd had plenty of rain during the week before.Some greens had a little bit of disease but still ran ok, and they had been hollow and tined so were a little bumpy, but a positive putt was rewarded. All in all, good enough for the average golfer.

Nice course overall. Some of the greens were perfect, but others were pitted that made puts bouncy. The water made it interesting and sometimes had us guessing what clubs to use.

Took 5 hours to get round . Waiting at tees on most holes . Second day we played behind a 5 ball. Actually had 5 sets of clubs . Obviously slow again . Course very hard but interesting holes glad I have played it . Greens good .

Brilliant course. Challenging where it needs to be. Good condition throughout and all credit to the greens staff considering how hot and dry it’s been this summer. Really enjoy the course and will visit again just to play but not to stay in the hotel.

The course had fared well even during this extremely hot period. The greens were very quick, but ran true. You will need your putting A game. It is not a course to get the driver out on every hole. Strategic hazards leave narrow landing areas. Would definitely play it again.

Lovely course in great condition

It was three rounds of high temperatures. Tees were as expected as were greens. The course is well sign posted and flows well, however, the penalty area, between the fourth and fifth fairways, could be better ‘signposted’; a white line and some white posts would help. The fairways were brown and on the whole very hard on the feet. First time I’ve experienced blisters playing golf. They certainly need watering. There is a half way house but on days one and two it was closed as we passed it! Water replenishment on day three was unavailable. The only alternative is then go into the bar

Tee boxes like playing off a beach. No grass at all, fairways and greens in good condition. If you are a golfer who has over 5.5 hours to kill on 18 holes this is speed we had on both days . Very very slow. Course needs staff pushing 10 minute ball searchers and general slow players on a bit.

Most of the tees were a bit chatty, need to enrich the soil and water more often. Facilities good with excellent halfway house.

Nice coarse, long and quite open, greens were poor Pre booked golf buggies some weeks before on arrival we’re told we hadn’t and there were none available Half way house not open on the Friday, open Saturday and Sunday but poorly staffed by youngsters who had no idea what they were doing ( couldn’t make a cup off tea !!!! ) Lastly the hotel and golf on took card payments no cash which we were not for warned about

T time was 2.20pm… took four hours to play 15 holes then it was too dark to finish , painfully slow . No Starter or course Marshall , just overloaded. Day 2 , T time was 2.40 …. We didn’t bother. Love the layout of course but it looked tired and over played . Greens were rough again can’t see how the green keepers can get on there to do anything ….

A very busy course , between 5-6 hrs to go round , great course for club golfers with reachable par 4s and some great par 3s , greens and tees were very tired but this time of year with the traffic only to be expected, but would definitely come again

The tee boxes were in a very poor condition, the greens had a lot of sand applied to them,the course had quite a few interesting holes that maid you think about your game

Think it's taken a lot of traffic.. Greens awful.. But we had fun

On Sunday we had a late tee time of 3.16 so we thought we might get most of the 18 holes in but we only manage 9 holes as it was busy as it took over 3 hours. We felt they try to get to many golfers on the course as they only allow 8 minutes between each tee off time especially as it’s mainly 4 balls. On Monday we had a early tee off and found it a lot better and really enjoyed are round of golf.

Way too many people booked on the course on Sunday and very very slow. There were times when 3 groups were waiting to tee off mid-way round. Greens were ok, but some were poorly kept and the fairways were not great. I won't be going back.

The pin positions were never moved or the tee positions for the three rounds we played. Never saw anyone working on the coarse and it’s over used, some greens are good and some full of moss, needs some tlc.

The course is a reasonable test of golf design-wise but it was in very poor condition. The fairways were brown and very dry; clearly not watered because the second day, after a heavy rain at night it was much greener. The greens were really quite poor. Lots of old pitch marks and bird scratching….not well tended at all. We were there for a birthday party so the golf was okay but if we’d gone there primarily for the golf we would have been very disappointed

The golf course has a nice variety of holes, but plays very hard for the most part. Quite punishing off the tee, fairway bunkers and other hazards in tricky spots to catch tee shots that are not perfect. The fairways and rough were quite decent condition, although a bit dry. The tee boxes for the most part were ok, besides the first which had a lot of weeds mixed in with the grass. Bunkers were not great, mostly filled with some kind of builder's sand, and lots of stones. Be careful when playing out of them, check for any big hidden stones under the sand. The greens sadly were very, very bad. Not watered enough, they were very dry and difficult to get the ball to stop on. Nearly every green covered in unrepaired pitchmarks which made putting very unpredictable, balls were bouncing all over. If you managed to avoid them, they did run quite smoothly however, so potential is there for them to be very nice. The golf was sadly the most disappointing part of the trip

The course is billed as being a championship one. I can imagine that it might have been designed as a championship course but it certainly isn't maintained as one. Some of the greens were in terrible condition and it was impossible to tell where the fairway ended and first cut of rough started. It is a long course and because it is played by a lot of societies at the weekend it was a 5hr + round. It's also quite a long course, on the second day we all had buggies. However, it was an interesting course to play despite the greens. In addition the bunkers were well filled with sand making them a delight to get out of. Would I bother to play it again? Perhaps, if accommodation was in the Mansion.

Great layout, but greens diseased, and badly maintained, bunkers a disgrace with weeds and footmarks everywhere. Clear signs of penny pinching.

Tee times in the morning are busier and slower. The course layout is good although some of the greens were patchy and the teeing areas were showing signs of wear & tear. I’m not sure the maintenance of the course is keeping up with the amount of use ?

Knowledge of the course key, lots of lay-up shots. Enjoyed the challenge, the ground condition in some parts of the course very testing.

This is a hard track, but enjoyable.

The greens held - but they were full of pitch marks - no one bothered to repair them. Fairways were decent and course layout lovely - a good challenge but not too difficult.

The course maintenance wasn’t great, some greens were diseased, the bunkers were in a terrible state and the tee positions appeared not to have changed for weeks meaning they were very scabby. The layout was good with some challenging holes.

So slow on the course was a negative but a nice course for all abilities. Will definitely play again and put it down to a bad day on the timings

Lots of bunkers!! Some interesting holes some greens bit scabby but hey ho just glad to get away. Party of 8.. We would all go again.

The greens need some love but the course was fantastic! it only took us 4 1/2hrs to get round on both days (Sun/Mon) and no waiting on the tee's. great course with more sand than Blackpool beach!!!

Lovey challenging course. Plenty hazards. Greens are lovely and sloping all the way around - about 6/10 condition but it’s been very dry and very busy no doubt. Nice finish at the outdoor bar area in the sunshine! Would definitely stay and play here again.

Green and bankers not ok quality for the money we payed

Nice variety of bunkers and water! Fairways and tees very good but downside was condition of greens which appear to be suffering from some sort of disease but were nevertheless 'fast'. Etiquette was very good apart from one lone player who clearly ignored rules. Lovely sense of fun around the whole place.

A relatively long course particularly off the blue tees. We had millionaires golf most of the time apart from when we caught up with slow 3 balls by 15th. Very testing course, fairways excellent despite the extensive rain for the few nights before we stayed. Greens very true.

Once again, as with the rest of the hotel complex, I was really impressed by the staff - friendly and professional. The course had a great variety of holes so was an interesting challenge. It was also in pretty good condition. All in all we were all very happy with both the hotel and golf course.

Course was very long to walk round. Too many very long par 5s. Not one we would play agIn

Needs some TLC on and around the greens. Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 rounds.

Golf is always good here pro shop always obliging and make your group feel their honoured guests 10 out of 10 for all staff here

The Course was nice but the 7 mins in between tee off times clogged the course up, 5 hours 10 mins for 18 holes and 2 hours 40 mins for 9 holes on Saturday so we gave up and went home I rated the course overall as 2 because of slow play.

Ok for a hotel course but the tees were very bad with hardly any grass on them

For high handicappers, this is a tough course in good weather conditions with plenty of strategically placed water and bunkers (and one inconvenient tree) while the heavy rough is a lot tougher than it looks. Course condition was good.

Our first encounter with the course left us exhausted and intimidated, but after tackling the bunkers, the water and the sloping greens, we all enjoyed the challenge and I think would return if it were closer to home. I would pick out Jay in the pro-shop, who was charming, helpful and always willing to help. The course on the back nine could do with some TLC, but I'm sure it is work in progress.

Perfect for a society that has various levels of ability. course forgiving where needed and challenging in areas. Would recommend the course for societies of 'average' ability.

The greens had been tined with not enough sand so were hard to putt, the tees were very beaten up and no differentiation between fairway and 1 st cut. In fairness since the wierd weather this year it was not too bad.

Fairways were tired and needed restoration. Greens were slick and challenging.
