The Algarve has earned its reputation as one of Europe's finest golf destinations, and Amendoeira Golf Resort shows you exactly why. This is a proper resort setup, built around two championship courses, Nick Faldo's award-winning layout and Christy O'Connor Jr.'s strategic test, plus the region's only floodlit par-3 course for those who fancy a few extra holes under lights.

Location matters here. You're 15 minutes from the southern Portuguese beaches, with views stretching to the Monchique Mountains, roughly 35 to 40 minutes from Faro airport depending on traffic and just over two hours from Lisbon. That makes Amendoeira an ideal base whether you're planning a dedicated golf trip or bringing the family along for a week in the sun.

What you get here, that many Algarve hotel bases can't match, is true on-site variety: two contrasting 18-hole tests, a floodlit par-3 and a sports club you'll actually use. The attention to detail, from course conditioning to the range of sporting facilities, makes this a resort that works for groups of varying abilities and families who want quality accommodation, proper facilities and the flexibility of self-catering or clubhouse dining.

Who is this for?
Golfers seeking a dedicated resort base in the Algarve with two contrasting championship courses, self-catering flexibility and a full range of sporting facilities beyond golf.

Who is it best for?
Groups and families who want the convenience of on-site accommodation, multiple course options and the freedom to structure their own trip, plus serious golfers targeting one of Portugal's top-rated layouts.

Golf Courses at Amendoeira Golf Resort

Oceanico Faldo Course

The best British player of the modern era has a distinct design philosophy, as he seeks to present a challenge to every player; however, he achieves this not simply through extreme length, but by demanding that the golfer exercises some strategy and thought.

The Faldo Course at the Amendoeria Resort is a pristine championship layout that deservedly won the “Best Course in Portugal” award. This is an incredible accolade considering how many top courses there are nearby.

Waste bunkers, large fairway/greenside bunkers and water hazards all play a role in protecting this course. You will find some soft terrain changes and luscious vegetation adding interesting visual aspects to the course too. The Faldo is as much fun to behold as it is to play, it is a very visually pleasing golf course.

The 12th hole is one of the most enjoyable holes on the course. It starts strong with a raised tee-shot down over woodland toward exposed boulders in the terraced land. The short par-4 then requires a tee-shot to a raised green perched on the horizon inviting approach shots. The hole is decorated with white sand bunkers and the green is protected by a beautiful cork oak tree.

Oceanico O'Connor

The undisputed highlight of the O’Connor Course is the designer’s take on Augusta National’s ‘Amen Corner’ – holes 7, 8 and 9 are skirted at various points by a great lake which snakes its way dangerously through three splendid holes.

The O'Connor course is the perfect companion to the Faldo course and sits in a wonderful fertile valley. This course is the same length as The Faldo and provides a slightly different golfing experience. The main features of the course are the various water hazards and the mature palm trees dotted around. You will have to contend with both rivers and large ponds so accuracy is key.

One of the highlights of the course are the large contoured greens, these will test you. The course starts with a nice-length par-5, always a good chance to get your round off to a good start and there is plenty of room from the tee to let you settle into your round.

The final hole on the front-9 is a cracker. A right to left dogleg awaits with water on the left giving you something to avoid from the tee. If this scares you and you bail-out to the right then three small fairway bunkers may gather-up your ball and give you trouble for your second. This is a fairly long par-4 which requires solid golf from start to finish. The water hazard on the left extends the length of the hole and another one awaits approach shots that are over-hit. A testing hole where par is a good score.

Academy Course

Have you ever played golf under floodlights? If not, now is your chance and it is an opportunity not to miss. This par-3 course is the perfect place to sharpen your scoring skills or to play with beginners in your group. Like the other courses at the Amendoeria Resort, you will walk off this course smiling.

The 7th hole features a tee shot over a water hazard. Two teeing options on this hole let you take on the pond or avoid it depending on your skill level. If you don’t have time for a full round or just fancy a bit of practice, this course comes highly recommended. When the dust has settled and you’ve counted up your strokes, the terraces at The Clubhouse give you a great setting to wind down and sip on something refreshing. The lower terrace overlooks the final green so it’s perfect for watching other members of your group finishing their round and putting some pressure on them as they finish.

Facilities & Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is one of the main features of the resort and is a great place to grab some food. With huge windows, the bar/restaurant area is bright and airy making it a great place to sit and eat with friends/family.

The restaurant opens at 7am and serves all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner. Golfers can purchase drinks and snacks from the golf buggy bar which goes around the golf courses regularly and post-golf drinks can be enjoyed on the spacious terrace which has stunning views over the golf courses or at the greenside spike bar.

Inside, you can have all-day breakfast as well as a la carte lunch and dinner options to fuel your relaxation. The Clubhouse is adjacent to the golf facilities and designed so that both courses start and finish at the building.

The spacious changing room facilities in The Clubhouse have everything you need before and after your round. Once you’re all set to play, go and visit the pro shop to stock up on anything you require for a round. Buggies are available and a free driving range gives you the space to warm-up before you head out.

Be sure to make full use of the putting green too as the greens can get pretty quick out there and you don’t want to be taken by surprise. The staff in the shop are on hand to help make sure you have everything you need before you tee it up.

Accommodation at Amendoeira Golf Resort

Amendoeira's accommodation reflects the Moorish influences that define this corner of Portugal. Think graceful archways, cool tiled courtyards and generous terraces, all designed to make the most of the hillside setting and those views across both courses and the surrounding countryside.

You've got a choice between two-bedroom apartments and four-bedroom villas. The apartments work well for couples or smaller groups and share access to communal pools. The villas suit larger parties or anyone who values privacy, each one comes with its own pool, ideal for a post-round dip without the walk to a shared facility.

Inside, the standard is consistently high. Modern kitchens, comfortable living spaces and well-appointed bedrooms, all styled to balance traditional Portuguese character with the kind of amenities you expect from a quality resort. Air conditioning throughout, Wi-Fi and satellite TV, plus proper storage for golf kit and luggage.

The hillside location means every property, whether apartment or villa, delivers proper views. You're looking out over fairways, greens and the wider Algarve landscape, not a car park or another block of rooms. That elevated position also helps with the breeze, keeping things comfortable even in the height of summer.

For golfers, the layout works. You're close to both courses, the practice facilities and the clubhouse. The self-catering setup gives you control over meal times and budgets, particularly useful for groups who want to eat early before a morning tee time or grab a late dinner after an evening round on the par-3. Many units are set back from the main resort traffic, so you get that peaceful feel without being isolated from the action.

Dining centres on the Clubhouse, positioned between the two courses. The restaurant and bar serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with terrace seating that overlooks both layouts. It's the natural spot for a pre-round coffee or a post-golf beer, and the menu covers everything from light snacks to full meals.

If you're staying in one of the villas, you can arrange a welcome food pack on arrival, stocking the basics so you're set up from day one. That flexibility, being able to self-cater when it suits and eat at the Clubhouse when you fancy a night off cooking, is one of the reasons Amendoeira works so well for longer stays and larger groups. The bar stays open late enough for a nightcap, and the terrace is a great spot to sit and replay the round while watching the sun go down over the courses.

The Sports Club adds genuine value. Five-a-side football pitches, tennis courts, two floodlit padel courts, a 1km jogging track and a fully equipped gym, all included for resort guests. Changing facilities and showers are on-site, so you can fit in a workout or a game of padel without heading back to your villa first.

For groups with non-golfers or families where not everyone wants to play 18 holes every day, the Sports Club gives people options. The padel courts in particular have become a popular addition, and they're floodlit so you can book an evening session after golf. The gym is well equipped rather than just a token facility, and the jogging track loops through pleasant surroundings if you want to stretch your legs on a rest day.

Amendoeira sits approximately 35 to 40 minutes from Faro Airport depending on traffic and your exact route. Flight time from most UK airports runs between two and a half to three hours, putting you on Portuguese fairways the same day you leave home.

The accommodation was brilliant, the facilities were clean, well maintained. The location was fantastic. The internal shuttle service for around the resort was spot on. The only small bug was we arrived circa 1pm and our room was not ready for a further 3hrs. We made the most of the time on the driving range and getting lunch so wasn't too bad. The restaurant quality on site was great.

The resort has the foundations of a great golf destination, but too many aspects of the experience fell short of what you’d expect from a premium golf resort. The golf facilities are generally very good and the courses are enjoyable. However, charging extra buggy fees for additional rounds despite advertising unlimited golf feels unreasonable. Likewise, having to pay for range balls at an all-inclusive golf resort seems unnecessarily restrictive. Our first impression was poor. We were offered early access to our rooms for €20 per hour before the 4pm check-in time. When we declined, the price immediately dropped to €10 per hour. This felt less like a policy and more like an attempt to extract additional money from guests. The restaurant service was consistently disappointing throughout our five-night stay. Every meal seemed to involve missing items, incorrect orders, or a lack of attention from staff. Food was often placed on the table without explanation, leaving us to work out who had ordered what. While some staff were clearly trying their best, the overall service lacked care and organisation. The outdoor pool looks attractive at first glance, but there are numerous missing tiles and, more concerningly, I cut my foot on glass at the bottom of the pool. This is a serious safety issue that should never occur. The sports facility is currently under construction, which is understandable, but the customer service was not. When checking in for the Academy (Par 3) course, I was met by a member of staff who was unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. Finally, there is nowhere on-site to buy basic groceries for the apartments. Without a hire car, guests must rely on a taxi costing around €20 each way to the nearest supermarket. Overall, the resort has excellent golfing potential, but poor service, questionable extra charges, maintenance concerns and a lack of attention to guest experience significantly detract from what could otherwise be a very enjoyable stay.

Hotel was great. 20 mins to the strip which was decent. Prices within the resort could be quite expensive though.

Had a great time away with the boys for a week to play golf. The three bedroom villa’s are lovely. Everything you need in the property, with full kitchen, fridge freezer etc - all bedrooms with en-suite + a separate toilet and laundry area with washing machine. Own private pool, private garden and private driveway with secure gates. Really impressed. Main resort area had 1 restaurant and bar - and sports centre also has a bar and other services (bar under renovation when we went). shuttle service around the resort is quick and easy to use. Maximum we ever waited was 5-10 minutes. Golf courses VERY well kept AND GREAT FUN.

Great accommodation and facilities. Only improvement woukd be spa facilities. Unfortunate that not advised of gym refurbishment and that equipment was in a temporary marquee - didn't use as a result

Amazing resort with 2 incredible courses. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were better than expected. Only criticism is that there is only one shuttle to take you to the main reception for golf check in and breakfast. This has to be booked well in advance and if there were more shuttles then would be 5 stars
