Amendoeira O’Connor Jnr Course

Once more no issues with the check-in, buggy or practice facilities. The speed of play was fine and the round was much more enjoyable. The course is challenging in parts but the bunkers are a complete mess due to the heavy rain and should be GUR. The greens were again true but pitted with pitch marks. Signage on some parts of the course could be better. I didn't manage to play with the same ball all the way round this time but that was just due to club selection on a couple of holes, where my ball went to a watery grave. I enjoyed the round.

Nice sister course to Faldo -more forgiving even with the plentiful water hazards - they can be avoided with decent course management

Playing conditions were pretty much the same for both the Faldo and O'Connor courses. Lack of concern by players for repairing greens and the same poor bunker conditions as the Faldo course.

All good. While we waited at most tees for the chaps in front of us to move on, this was reasonable. We still finished within 4 hours. If every tee time is a four ball, I can see delays becoming significant.

Course was in good nick overall.. green were as class as Faldo course. But fairways were slightly barer. Tee beds are slightly smaller as well but overall a very good track

The O'Connor Jnr course was well laid out and challenging for all. It was important to keep tee shots on line as there were a lot of hazards for wayward drives. Again there were a lot of unrepaired pitch marks on the greens, but the overall condition of the course was very good.

Quite challenging course but enjoyable

Easier to navigate and generally easier to play tha. Faldo but still a good challenge and great fun.

Quite challenging and we lost a good few balls on the first day as plenty of water hazards to avoid. On the last day tried to play only 9 holes which was a problem as there was no getting off point.

This course is more challenging than the Faldo one in that it has a lot of water obstacles and it’s much easier to lose balls here but encourages you to think about your game more. Bags of balls sold on course for €5-6 which are very handy to have . We were a group of ladies so were a little outnumbered by many groups of men playing, but very much enjoyed the challenge of the course . Buggies are very good and are very much needed to cover the area.

Ya played it on a windy day which bought the many water traps into play not the longest of courses but the group really enjoyed there which didn't reflect in our courses would diffently recommend this course the staff and facilities were excellent

Was easier than the Faldu, but still a difficult challenge.

Great conditions especially after a busy summer season. Both courses very different and great fun. Greens were fast and receptive and very consistent. Higher handicapers (12+) should play scramble/ better ball to enjoy the experience and keep up pace of play, as playing own ball will be too tough for most golfers.

We have played this course many time over the last ten years, I’ve said it’s hard , but it’s it bit harder than average, but not hard hard

Much easier to see where you are hitting vs The Faldo course as the course is much flatter. Greens in lovely condition. Just too many holes where you had to clear water/greenery from the tee or to access the green - felt a bit contrived.

We keep returning here as a group of 8 with handicaps 5-20. Facilities excellent, course in good condition and greens true. A fair test of golf, this is usually our final day playing in our view best course in Western Algarve

Kept getting held up on the course. On the first tee there was a 6-ball in front of us who fortunately waved us through. We soon caught up with the next 4-ball though and it ended up a 5 hour round. The course was in excellent condition though and the weather glorious. Definitely my preferred course.

Did not appreciate the course turning on the sprinklers while we were still playing. We were not advised that we'd only have four hours to complete the round on our final day. That sucked. It was an ok pace...though we're always waiting to tee off and hit second shots. But not as long as earlier rounds.

Good condition and good timing

Water water everywhere! Multiple lakes, streams and marshes on every hole make this a challenge for your ball count. However the landing areas were generous enough if you hit the ball somewhere near straight. As with Faldo, we found it in excellent condition.

The O'connor course was a challenging course with plenty of water to avoid leading to needing to play so exciting shots. The fairways and greens were in great condition. The only negative we experienced due to the time of year was the half way house was shut. There was a food/ drinks cart but you'd only see that once a round.

Very busy course and one round took 5hours with very slow players who seemed to ignore the marshal. The quickest round was 41/2 hours

The course was great. Not in the best condition and was a bit dry in some areas, but the greens were in very good condition. The round took us just under 6 hours - longest round of golf I’ve ever had!

We all really enjoyed this course good value for money, particularly with buggies included. Some bunkers were not in great condition but didn’t spoil the experience.

Two really good courses can’t complain about anything. Greens true a fast. We had handicaps from 2-24 so we just picked the correct tees and everyone enjoyed there rounds. Fairways a wee bit rough in some areas but that’s just down to the amount of traffic on them. Would definitely recommend to anyone

This is the slightly easier course and situated in the lower area of the facility.. greens are similar to Faldo the only thing is check your driving distance.. easy to run out of fairways on certain holes... again throughly recommend 👌

Golf was great , only downside was lots off guys got robbed, money taken out off their golf bags , so keep all your valuables in your pocket

great course and we all said that this was the more playable course of the two for all handicaps/abilities.The high handicapper in our group said it was one of the most enjoyable days of golf he had ever had. Some really interesting holes and some tricky greens. we all looked forward to the second round of the week on this course

Easier than the Faldo but still a hard test Nevertheless enjoyable

Course in very poor condition and don’t expect to have bunkers in that state. Fringe of greens were that bumpy putting wasn’t an option. Bare patches on fairways aren’t acceptable and frankly I have seen municipal courses in the uk in better condition than this

We all enjoyed the course and will be back to play again in the future

Faster pace than the Faldo, seemed a little easier to play, maybe because we weren’t waiting around on every shot.

Quicker than the Faldo to get around but still slow. Expected on a resort course that is booked from dawn till dusk. Easier than the Faldo, more parkland style and with some easier approaches and certainly more favourable off the tee for all abilities.

As with the Faldo the O'Connor course looks tired and needs some care, with the tee boxes in terrible condition, sand everywhere.

Undoubtedly the best of the 3 courses we played. Tees, Fairways and Greens in excellent condition, facilities such as the bar / restaurant also excellent. The only downside was the length of time it took to play 18 holes, nearly 5 hours!

Played it twice, very enjoyable rounds. Not as long or hilly than the Faldo, but just as rewarding !

The O’Conner course was in decent condition and play was at a better pace. The package says unlimited golf but it’s almost impossible to play more than 18 holes per day as you can only book one tee time in advance and all the tee times are booked when you arrive at the resort. Also the buggies are at additional cost after the 1st round each day which wasn’t expected.

Nice course with some interesting holes. Challenging without being too hard. Perfect for our mid handicapped group. Tees and greens looked a little tired but I assume they get a lot of traffic. Although the greens looked damaged they played great. Pace of play was perfect and the buggies kept things moving.

Super nice course, some tee boxes were a little bit on the wet side though. Other than that fantastic

The O’Connor was a nice course to play with great fairways and good greens running at 10.5 consistently. Buggies were slow due to being restricted but wasn’t too much off an issue

The O'Connor course is mostly flat, but far from easy. The carries from the tees often go over lakes and bullrushes, so be sure to take more balls than normal. The greens are very slick and the bunkers are well raked. The fairway grass is like a carpet.

Our preferred option of the two. Course condition much better than some of the on line reviews. A good but fair test, enjoyed by all the party.

An easier play than the Faldo course, but still challenging. Lots of water that needs a good strategic approach.

Severely underrated and the superior of the two. The faldo seems like a showcase course where as the o conner is just a quality round of golf. Good mixture of holes, and better than the faldo. We wished we had played this course all week. Also less busy.

Top course and great clubhouse

Great golf course but too difficult for my and me. It was recommended by YGT and knowing our age and handicap I am very disappointed. I am of the opinion that the sale of the golf package was the most important issue rather than a golf package that suited my wife and me.

I’d recommend this course over Faldo because your average golfer will find this a much better experience. Greens rolled well and true. Greens needed to be softer if shots are being played over bunkers. Golfers didn’t appear to repair pitch marks. Judging by the characters there, I’d imagine many weren’t members of a club.

Great chilled out round

Course in great condition and played around 4 and a half hours for a four ball. Limited food and drink service and in addition half way house closed

Nice wee course. More tricky than the Faldo as you need to hit more irons and think about your approach shots, with water hazards and well placed bunkers. Definitely my favoured out the two and wound say it's a great wee course. Probably in better condition than the Faldo in my opinion.

Loved this course as it was very suitable for the varying abilities in our group. Whilst there was plenty of trouble around to challenge everyone, there were nice, wide fairways in very good condition and the greens were very good. Definitely more forgiving than the Faldo!

Lovely course and very playable for all handicaps, great greens but very poor bunker. Index 1&2 holes are a great pair of holes that definitely test your standard of play.

The golf buggies were poor. The golf sat nav on the buggies had no yardages making them pretty useless. No divot sand or ball cleaners. Also some buggies were electric and some petrol.

Course is good the only issue is most the holes look the same and because you are on flat ground you can’t see all the hazards. Same great holes some average.

Competition time of year for the resort where corporate take over and they book far to many people on the course thinking everyone is decent and gets a move on, far to slow on some days this time around

length of round varies greatly depending on the usual factors of numbers and course occupancy. from less than 3 hours for two os of an empty course to 5 hours for four with lots of fours in front. Course is challenging but not intimidating and perfectly doable for the average player.

Only complaint would be few bunkers not great but rest of course was immaculate

My favourite course I have ever played.

Course was in good condition. Greens were good and fast but only issue was that it seems people don't repair their pitch marks which is not the resorts fault. Some bunkers could do with more sand in and some needed more rakes as they can be very large and should have at least 1 rake on each side to encourage people to use them.

Great course, great clubhouse loved it. Lots of water and hard to think about every shot. The negative is the tees we’re very poor, grass too long and divert filled with sand everywhere

See the above comments. On one occasion, the shuttle bus from the apartment was 30 minutes late. We were therefore not on time for our tee time. The caddie master refused to let us play and stated it was not his concern that the shuttle bus was late. Disgraceful.

It's clear all the attention gets placed on the Faldo course. The condition certainly isn't as good. The tee boxes are really scruffy with weeds everywhere and some of the greens need attention. It was a fun course to play though. The other immediate action the resort needs to take on both courses is the bunkers. There's no sand in any of them. We started using them as GUR, as they were like a hazard and impossible to play out.

Needed a half way house

While easier then the Faldo, it’s very much a proper course and still tricky. Lots of water, some great holes and a much more natural routing (which we preferred actually). Like the Faldo, there are a few too many holes where missing the fairway at all leads to a lost ball, but as it’s more of a tactical course it doesn’t affect things as much. All in all a good experience.

We played this course twice and it was certainly the easier of the two, albeit with more water hazards to be wary of. Greens were in decent condition but there were some sandy patches. We enjoyed the course and the fact that the 18th comes up to and is in view from the clubhouse is a nice touch.

Played both the rounds fairly early in day so no real traffic, fairways and greens of generous size but lots of bunkers and water to catch you out should you miss them. Excellent driving drive with free balls, and great par 3 floodlit course which unfortunately ran out of time to squeeze in this time around.

The fairways and greens are in superb condition. The undulating fairways are like a thick quality carpet and the greens and very fast with some tricky borrows. The bunkers are very difficult and below what looks like a beautifully raked surface, the sand is solid, making a proper bunker shot almost impossible. There is very little rough as the course is lined by a number of large lakes and edged by tall reed beds and bullrushes. We lost countless balls that in the UK would have been found. The carries can also be a bit daunting for high handicappers! Altogether though, the course is in superb condition and a joy to play, We palyed two rounds every day we were there.

The course proved difficult for some of our party who are not long off the tee. There are various holes with a considerable carry over water or impenetrable rough and this spoilt the game for them. We will not return to this course

Probably a more typical Portuguese/Spanish course. Glad it had no villas running close down the fairways. Long carries and if played sensibly, it's a great course.

This is one of the most aesthetically pleasing courses I have played. We tee’d off very early in the morning with a little mist hanging which just added to the vista. The T beds were not as well manicured as the Faldo but the fairways and greens were perfect. Give yourself time to take in the views of the orange groves and water features as nature chips-in and adds to the experience- there is also wildlife in abundance to spot and admire. Fair test of golf and for me at least 6 strokes easier than the Faldo due to more accessible greens - although the potential to hide pins is definitely there.

Pushing far too many players on to the course. Had to wait for buggies both afternoons. Tee boxes and fairways are scruffy. Greens are best feature

Great course. Super quick greens and a good but fair challenge for the average golfer. We all play off mid teen handicaps and all scored fairly well.

A beautiful course with lakes and palm trees (some great photo opportunities) It is a course that rewards good shots. This is the flatter of the two courses but there are more water hazards and bunkers - you really have to the think your way round to get a good score and unlike the Faldo course off the tee the driver can stay in the bag on a lot of holes. Amazing greens, quick but receptive and if you get out of position on them walk off with a 3 putt or worse. It is a pretty golfer friendly course with avg round times 4 to 4.5 hours Be sure to get a photo with Christy as you drive back to the clubhouse

This was our fourth time going over and we had never found greens so fast. Outstanding

Again greens very good. Some tees were long grass and could of been presented better. Bunkers again were very poor with no sand in. Playable course as very wide fairways.

No water stations or half way house - so take all you need out with you - fairways bit sparse but greens good and receptive

Enjoyable. More routine and more compact than the Faldo, but still a long course even from the yellow tees. Again a very wide choice of tee positions helps less competent and less lengthy players enjoy the course. More opportunities to lose balls in the many water hazards. Some holes very pretty and interesting.

water is the biggest issue here as makes you re think your game but a very nice course prefer the Faldo better

Reasonable resort course, nothing memorable but it's enjoyable. Generous fairways, shallow bunkers, some water but a very fair course. Course is good condition, albeit the linings of the bunkers are coming through. Although buggies are provided, you could walk this course.

Tee’s were in poor condition but it is the end of the season but even so it should be better, just applying sand is not up keep, groups of english players do not repair divots, appealing way to treat a course

This course seemed busier than Faldo course as we were held up for most of the second round we played. With balls being played close behind us. Very different challenge to the Faldo course which is why we like to come here.

Course was great, issue was Buggies, the site ran out of them each day at around midday, so if you had an afternoon tee time you were delayed by around 45 minutes until buggies came back.

Same as the Faldo, disappointing to be honest, I took 20 lads to Amendoeira because I new it was a go to place with great golf and facilities but the standard is way down on previous year’s

We arrived on the Thursday and enjoyed an afternoon round with the course to ourselves. When we played it again in the morning on Saturday. It was noticeably busier, but we were not held up.

Stunning course though quite challenging for our group which was mainly high handicappers. Would have liked a halfway house or more drinks carts but other than that, amazing

was delayed by an hour from our tee time because they did not have enough buggies. This meant we had to rush some of the holes to finish before it was too dark to continue. Apart from the buggies this is another great course and very well kept.

The greens on this course were in awful condition, lots of pitch marks where too many people using it, scored greens, sand sall over the greens. The ball bobbled all the way to the hole when putting and often went off line because of it1

Course was generally in good condition but the greens were poor and had a lot of sand spread all over them as well as lots of unrepaired pitch marks.

Buggies were a must but in short supply for later tee-off times meaning our tee-off was delayed for 45 minutes and we were unable to complete more than 14 holes before the light went. Our second round was a mid-morning tee-off so no buggy issues but 5 hours is given as the standard time for a round

the course is a good standard for a mid handicap, make it harder and play off the whites for low handicaps. Standard 5hr round abroad which is fine unless you tee off after 1.30. WARNING: If you tee off after 1.30/2 you wont finish your round this time of year. You will be told its down to slow play, its not, its down to not enough buggies being available. We didn't finish our round on the final day and neither did a lot of other groups we spoke to, the resort know this will happen but wont tell you until half way around. Basically ruining our final competition day. 13 holes played!!!!

Greens had been worked on so not at there best,but a stunning course And would definitely go again.

Played 3 rounds on the course, the greens weren't in good condition- a bit slow and bumpy. Sand inconsistent in bunkers. Overall a good course, difficult if you aren't playing well. Buggies hard to get in afternoon, 1 hr wait typical. Rounds generally slow but enjoyable.

Having played here 3 times before the greens were very poor. Bobbly, loads of pitch marks and generally poor. Tee time was 30 mins late and round took 6 hours which is unacceptable. We won’t be back.

The O'Conner course is the easier of the two on the resort, mainly because it is relitively flat and their are no blind tee shots. Their are quite a few challenging second shots which are over large water hazards. Overall I would say this is a good society course for all handicaps

The course was in great condition and playable for all standards of golfers off the tee with wide fairways. The difficulty was it’s length and the greens were well protected by water and bunkers. Most of the approaches were narrow as well. The back nine was generally into a wind which increased the difficulty up another notch. Probably not a course to play if you are a complete beginner. The marshals were friendly but would ask you to pick your ball up and catch up the group in front if you were slow. It didn’t happen to us but some other groups were grumbling about it in the club house. Our four ball rounds took us 4 hours 20mins with waiting on a few holes and the marshals thought we were fast so that gives a guide to the pace of play. The drinks trolley came round twice in the round so we were kept refreshed. A great course and we loved it.

The course is great overall but I was disappointed with the speed of the greens, my course back home in Scotland's greens are much faster and we don't have close to near the weather Portugal has the luxury of. Besides that we had a great time playing this course

Loved this course. Not as challenging or hilly as Faldo. All round better experience with loads of toilet buildings throughout. A few more lakes and water hazards which are visually stunning. Great for every ability.

Excellent golf course one of my favourites in Portugal

Great for big hitters but some of our party struggled over the carries. I loved it but found the course not as scenic as Faldo.

Again just too many people on the course at times... there was one occasion where we sat behind 2 four balls on a tee waiting to play as people in front were playing ridiculously slow

We played the O'Connor for the first time as we had played the Faldo course previously on 2 occasions, this course did not fail with some spectacular holes, it is a bit easier than the Faldo as its flat and you don't have the massive hills to climb, if you have not played this course then give it a go and if you don't want the buggy which is in with the price then its easy walking.

really enjoyed this track , suited to your average golfer , however still a challenge to low handicappers, once again greens slow , appeared the grass was going to seed a bit. overall very good though.

Again a challenging course with lots of hazards to test you. Another interesting but slightly different to Faldo. I couldn't way which I preferred as both were great to play.

Tough course with lots of water. Weather conditions weren’t great which made it a tough day to score. One for the low handicappers!

Good course pace of play was better than the Faldo but may have been due to less players on the course. Start delayed due to no buggies due to first out taking 5 hours plus to get round.

Not played the course for several years and the level of service and course condition has gone down. Very slow pace of play and no starter on 1st. Condition of the course was fairly scruffy compared to previous although the greens were still very good. Would give this a miss in future.

Good fairways good greens reasonably forgiving.Complimentary buggies. Enjoyable to play.

Our second round on Thursday 11th Oct was painfully slow. The course was crammed, far too many players on the course which spoiled it for everyone. 6hrs 10 minutes is beyond ridiculous However this is a course which is enjoyable for golfers of all levels

Nice course, no hold ups apart from 1 hole.

We all really enjoyed the course which we were told was the easier of the two. Greens very receptive.

Many of my group actually preferred this course to the Faldo - still has some daunting tee shots & many tough approach shots over or round water, but fairways are a little more generous & were in excellent condition, as were the greens.

Nice course for golfers of any standard.Condition was ok can tell it is played a lot.But myself playing off 5 really enjoyed it.

Course was in outstanding condition difficult but fair and fun

The round on day 1 was great as it was a Wednesday, the Friday round took nearly 6 hours due to sheer number of people on the course

The O'Connor course was fantastic, in great condition and a great test. Greens were excellent and it was well maintained

Great course. Great staff . Buggy's were a cock up didn't get last buggy until tee time and therefor no practice .

As above the courses were brilliant. We were probably fortunate that there not many golfers at the time so my wife and I played as a two ball on all three rounds with very little waiting.
