Brora is a traditional seaside links course, established in 1891. The course as it is now owes much to a visit by five-time Open Champion James Braid, whose golfing fingerprints are all over the Highlands and East Coast, in 1923, when he began his redesign work.
Brora Golf Course has some rather famous fans with the likes of Tom Watson saying "it was a wonderful links course...I'd like to challenge it again" and five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson adding "one of my favourite links is Brora on the Mory Firth...I pray it will continue and last as long as the world."
Testimonials like this make it easy to see why golfers have held Brora, for centuries, amongst one of the finest links courses in the Scottish Highlands and maybe even the world.

Brora now reflects the classic tenets of Highland links golf design, with a gentle opening and its short holes facing different directions. As such, the golfer must negotiate the prevailing wind in all directions, and considering the course's exposed position, it is often more than a gentle breeze.
Most notable at Brora are the 13th green, one of the jewels in Braid's considerable crown, and the elevated 17th tee, where the golfer must drive toward Tarbatness, the lighthouse after which the hole is named.
Ronan Rafferty is a known fan, and has said that, "For the connoisseur, Brora is well worth the journey."
As the serving headquarters of The James Braid Golfing Society, Braid's design qualities are showcased perfectly at Brora. Measuring just over 6,200 yards against a par of 70, the course runs along the Moray Firth before for the front 9 before turning back to run back for the closing 9 holes.
On a warm-light-breezy day, there are far better places to be in the world to play golf than Brora. Whilst it's length might not be considered long by modern standards, the challenge is found in undulating greens and small pot bunkers which are on hand to funnel the ball away from the fast-running greens.
Taking a trip to The Highlands for a golf tour is something that every golfer should do. With a range of golf courses that have a history amongst the very pioneers of the game as well as a warm-welcome golfers heading here are assured a very memorable golfing trip.

A lovely little picturesque setting with cows roaming around the course. Electric fencing surrounds all greens to protect them. Everybody from the pro to the bar staff could not have been friendlier. Lots of undulations that should you take a buggy need to be respected, however only a few blind shots are exist.

Very friendly staff in the pro shop. We had a great day. The winds were more manageable that the previous day at Castle Stuart, the pace of play was excellent and we enjoyed the more playable nature of the course. Would recommend.

Brilliant experience, very different course. Looked and played like a Welsh mountain course by the sea. Not a tree or bush in sight. Course was very quiet the day we played. Welcoming Pro and members. Clubhouse had a lovely vibe. Will definitely play this one again! One word of warning, even on a still day there will be a sea breeze. Protects the course magnificently.
