Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel sits in the green folds of the Sirhowy Valley and makes a cracking base for a South Wales golf break, especially if you want proper on-site facilities rather than just a bed for the night. The hotel is around 30 minutes from Cardiff and roughly 45 minutes from the Severn Bridge, so it works well for quick weekends, society trips and longer tours where you want to mix a couple of local rounds with a day out in the city.

On site you've got an 18-hole parkland course, a four-star Visit Wales-rated boutique hotel and a spa setup that's genuinely geared towards switching off after golf. It's privately owned too, which usually shows in the small things: service that feels personal, a relaxed atmosphere in the bar and restaurant, and staff who know the place inside out.

If you're travelling with a mixed group, this is one of those venues that keeps everyone happy. Golfers get a course that rewards sensible play and decent ball-striking, while non-golfers can make a day of the pool, thermal facilities and treatments. Add in Blas restaurant overlooking the course, and you've got everything you need for a one-site break, with plenty of top South Wales golf within reach if you fancy building a multi-course itinerary.

Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a well-rounded Welsh golf break that combines a solid parkland course with four-star spa hotel facilities, easy access to South Wales' top courses, and the option to add spa treatments or leisure time for non-golfers in the group.

Who is it best for?
Mid-handicappers who value accuracy and course management over raw distance, groups wanting a central base for a multi-course South Wales trip, and anyone planning a golf and spa break where the hotel facilities matter as much as the golf itself.

Bryn Meadows Golf Club

Byrn Meadows Golf Course is not one to overpower, but is more of a thinking golfers's challenge, with a strategy the key to overcoming the considerable obstacles. Bryn Meadows was established in 1973, and has since come to the fore as one of the best golf courses in Southern Wales.

The signature hole is the 213-yard 12th, where players must fly their tee shots over a menacing lake, and is a proposition that will challenge even the low handicappers. Also of note is the monstrous 2nd, which at 561 yards from the tips, is a hole that only the very longest will be able to reach on two blows.

Bryn Meadows is a most enjoyable layout that boasts one of the most picturesque backdrops anyone could hope for.

Muscle up at the monster 561-yard second hole, and have a crack at the green in two.

Accommodation at Bryn Meadows Golf & Country Hotel

Bryn Meadows is a four-star boutique hotel (Visit Wales rated) with a smart, modern feel and a noticeably personal approach to service. Because it's privately owned, it doesn't feel like a conveyor-belt chain property, staff tend to be more hands-on and the overall atmosphere is relaxed, which is exactly what you want on a golf break.

Rooms are finished to a high standard with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs and contemporary furniture. The hotel also offers in-room films, handy if your group has drifted into "one more drink" territory and you fancy calling it a night. Selected rooms feature additional screens in the bathroom, though it's worth checking what's included in your specific room category when you book.

Where Bryn Meadows really earns its keep is the leisure side. The Fusion Spa is a proper facility rather than a token treatment room, with an 18-metre indoor pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub and relaxation areas. There's also a well-equipped gym (30 stations) if you like to keep the wheels turning between rounds. The aromatherapy suite and hydrospa add another layer for anyone serious about recovery or simply looking to unwind properly.

If you're travelling with non-golfers, or you're building in a recovery day, the spa offering makes the trip feel like more than "golf, sleep, repeat". The hotel is used to golf groups too, so it's worth asking what's available in terms of spa-inclusive offers for mixed parties. Bryn Meadows specialises in spa breaks and spa day packages, which means they're set up to handle groups where some want to play 36 holes and others would rather spend the day in the thermal suite.

Food-wise, Blas restaurant looks out over the course and serves modern Welsh cooking using local suppliers. The menu leans into regional produce without being overly formal, so you're getting quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation in a relaxed setting after your round. It's not stuffy, but it's a step up from standard hotel dining, and the emphasis on Welsh suppliers gives the menu a clear sense of place.

The hotel's location, 30 minutes from Cardiff and roughly 45 minutes from the Severn Bridge, makes it a practical base for exploring South Wales golf. You're within reasonable reach of courses like Celtic Manor and The Vale Resort, so Bryn Meadows works well as a central hub for a longer golf tour or as a standalone break where the spa facilities and on-site course give you everything you need in one place. Overall, it's a strong all-in-one option if you want golf, comfort and downtime without having to move around, with the flexibility to add other South Wales favourites if you're building a multi-day itinerary.

comfortable accommodation in a twin room. En suite Shower/bath room had a couple of issues. Sink would not drain, bath difficult to enter for shower and shower pressure far too high for comfort. Safe at the bottom of the wardrobe difficult to read the instructions lying flat on the floor with a torch. Even doing that could not use the safe. Room location very good with patio doors on to terrace, would be helpful to have a patio table to go with the two chairs. Food was excellent although a lot of the meals were well in excess of the maximum £25 spend/person for dinner. Almost impossible to have 2 courses within the spend limit. One of us was gluten intolerant and the menu catered for this excellently. Swimming pool and jacuzzi excellent for relaxing after playing golf.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, whether it was in the hotel, the bar or golf shop. The food (breakfast and dinner) was of good quality and range.

Accommodation was great and very friendly staff. En-Suite in room was a bit poor though. Very slippery floor with dry and wet feet. Shower in bath was too powerful and spread water everywhere. Limited menu in restaurant but food was good. Location is amazing. Golf course is challenging. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. Would go back again.

Course was shut due to excess rain but simulator was made available and free spa experiences. Couldn't ask for more. They did offer vouchers to return as an option but we choose the first as we were there.

The staff are friendly and helpful. Although small, the rooms are comfortable and had everything I required for my stay. There is a lack of plug sockets in the room for the charging of electric trolleys.

Reception staff very welcoming and helpful. Lovely reception area. Bedroom looking a little tired but very comfortable. Rooms with balconies overlooking the course are great. Bar and restaurant overlook 9th and 18th green. Menu choice was very good.

The staff at the hotel were warm and welcoming and nothing was too much bother. The food and drink was reasonably priced and of good quality, the breakfast in the morning was cooked to order and the continental breakfast had plenty of choice. The beds were comfortable and I was fortunate to have a balcony overlooking the golf course. The bathroom was of a decent size and the over bath shower was good, although the shower curtain got in the way a bit. This is somewhere I would visit again in the future.

played 2 rounds on 2 days, day 1 with a member, very helpful to be aware of course management. Course and greens in excellent condition although tees were dry and well worn, to be expected given the weather for the past 2 months.

Overall a well-maintained course. It was a challenge for us as we are not seasoned golfers but we enjoyed the 2 rounds that we played. We preferred this course to the Rolls of Monmouth. I would recommend this course.

Course was amazing. Pretty views and challenging. Played one round in the end as the course was shut on one day due to torrential rain. Staff put us on the golf simulator which was a bit rubbish but enjoyable. Spa was lovely

Course in excellent condition. Views around the course are great. Difficult to particularly rate and degree of difficulty of the course but for our visit it was tricky more than hard as we played on the weekend of the very hot weather and this played a part in play and made for lightening’ greens, with many a 3-putt!! Loved the course.

Bryn Meadows was a hilly parkland course with for the most part wide open fairways, that said there were trees that you needed to be wary of. The greens were in superb condition, fast with lots of slopes and undulations. A few of the tee boxes were a bit uneven, but for the main they were mostly flat and even. The staff in the Golf Shop and clubhouse were warm and welcoming, especially Katie who managed to bring our tee-time on Sunday forward so that we got out prior to a society of 24 golfers. The golf shop was reasonably stocked and priced fairly, a golf simulator was available to book at £15 for an hour. The food an drink was of good quality and reasonably priced. The club members were also warm and welcoming to visitors, which is not often the case as it impacts on their tee-times.
