Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa is a 5-star base in the smart Meloneras area of Gran Canaria, right by the lighthouse and a short stroll from the Maspalomas Dunes and the Atlantic promenade. It's the sort of place that works for proper golf trips but still keeps non-golfers happy, thanks to the huge pool scene, beach access and the headline spa.

For golf, you're in a handy spot. Meloneras Golf is the closest and it's one of the most popular resort courses on the island, with coastal stretches and plenty of holiday-friendly tee options. If you want to mix it up across a week, Maspalomas golf course offers a classic, flatter resort round while Anfi Tauro offers theatre on every hole alongside stunning views.

Back at the hotel, you've got loads of choice for food and drink, plus a spa set up for recovery after 18 holes. The Gran Spa Corallium is the standout facility here, a volcanic-inspired wellness centre built around a hydrothermal circuit that's aimed at easing muscle soreness and helping you recover for the next round. Hydro and chromo therapy treatments are available alongside a full menu of specialist health and beauty options, making it an ideal spot to work out any stiffness from walking the coastal holes at Meloneras or tackling the elevation changes at Real de Las Palmas. The outdoor pool offers a more straightforward way to relax, with plenty of sun loungers and year-round sunshine.

In short, it's a polished, reliable Gran Canaria favourite that suits couples, groups and societies who want sunshine golf with plenty going on off the course.

Who is this for?
Couples, groups and golf societies who want a 5-star resort feel in Meloneras with a proper spa, loads of dining choice and easy access to multiple courses.

Who is it best for?
Golfers who prioritise convenience, winter sun and off-course comfort, especially if you want to walk to Meloneras Golf and still have plenty to do after the round.

Accommodation at Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa

With 1,136 rooms spread across sympathetically designed low-rise buildings, Lopesan Costa Meloneras manages to feel spacious despite its size. The resort sits right on the edge of Meloneras beach, with the famous lighthouse anchoring the skyline and the Atlantic stretching out beyond.

Every room is finished with marble bathrooms, air conditioning, satellite TV and either a balcony or terrace, giving you somewhere to sit with a coffee before heading out to the course or to dry off your gear after a round. The standard rooms cover the basics you want on a golf break, with enough space to store clubs without tripping over them and a layout that works well for couples or friends sharing.

For golfers travelling in groups or couples marking a milestone trip, the junior suites and full suites step things up with more space, upgraded furnishings and that VIP treatment you'd expect from a 5-star property. The extra room makes a difference on longer stays, particularly if you're the type who likes to spread out or if you've brought along non-golfing partners who want a bit more comfort while you're out playing.

The dining setup covers serious ground. Multiple restaurants and themed buffet stations mean you can mix things up across your stay, from local Canarian specialities to international dishes that cater to every taste. The buffet is particularly handy for golfers, especially if you've got early tee times and need a proper breakfast before heading out. Most dining areas look out over the resort's lush gardens or towards the ocean, so the setting matches the quality of the food.

For those with later starts or anyone who wants to make an evening of it, the à la carte options are there when you want to slow things down and enjoy a longer meal. The food is well executed, portions are generous, and there's enough variety to keep everyone happy across a week-long stay, even if you've got fussy eaters or specific dietary needs in the group.

When it comes to drinks, you've got two main bars, four pool bars and a dedicated beer bar to choose from, so you're never far from a cold one after 18 holes. The pool bars are dotted around the resort, which means you can grab a drink without trekking back to your room or the main lobby, and the beer bar is a relaxed spot to debrief the round with your group.

The resort's size means there's always something happening, whether that's live entertainment in the evenings or simply finding a quiet corner by the pool. It's a well-run, comfortable base that handles groups and couples equally well, with enough variety in dining and facilities to keep everyone happy. The walk to Meloneras Golf is genuinely short, so you can be on the first tee within minutes of leaving your room, and return transfers to Gran Canaria Airport (approximately 35km away) can be arranged as part of many packages.

The room was fine, the location of it was not good. Ground floor, no view, dark. Since I had requested a nice room it was disappointing.

OK so whilst the hotel is nice there are a few very major gripes. 1. No complimentary water (except two small bottles on arrival day) even though the water from the tap is not potable. I've never stayed in a 5 star hotel where they don't at least top up the water in the room daily. Charges for a small bottle of water in the hotel 2.80 euros. Scandalous! 2. Half board consisted of a buffet every evening with no allowance given if you wanted to dine in one of the other restaurants. The hotel has 1,236 bedrooms so if you reckon high season about 80% occupancy with 2 people per room that's nearly 2,000 people to feed. The buffet area consisted of a narrow corridor where they had market stalls all in a line. So if you wanted some food from one stall and something else from another you had to queue twice. Plates were stone cold, the overhead heater lamps and hotplates were not on and consequently by the time you got back to your table the food was inedible. And bizarrely here you go... this is a typical example of the nonsense, there were 3 toasters available to use for the morning breakfast. These were positioned in the middle of the corridor, but the butter was at each opposite end of the corridor. It was chaos. 3. Beach towels: Two towels were provided in the room for your stay. If you wanted them changing you had to attend a shed on the complex between 10 and 12 in the morning where they would happily swap them over. Then that evening you took your wet / dirty towels home and had to wait till 10 the next morning to change them (and yet another queue!) But we are golfers... so that meant we were out playing golf between 10 and 12 so after golf when we came back and wanted a relax by the pool and a nice swim it meant having to use yesterday's used towels. 4. The pools were lovely. However the beds were literally side by side with no space between them. No space to turn them round to follow the sun, no personal space or room for anything. And the sad part of it all was the majority (I'd say a good 50%) of the beds were totally unused! They could have removed a great number of them, easing the congested feel around the pools easily improving the experience and ambience. Overall opinion is that the hotel is just too big.

Lovely course, in great condition. However beware... they don't provide complimentary water here as they do on the Maspalomas golf course, so you have to either buy bottled water at a premium price or an empty bottle and fill it yourself at the filling station.

Course of 2 halves. Front nine very congested with holes on top of each other. Back 9 spread out a lot more with more features to holes.
